Hella

I just wanted to survive the coronation without drama, so it’s no surprise the Stars deliver me chaos in the mountains. An ambush, a runaway carriage, and then I’m catching the Lord of Myreborne’s ward moments before she plummets off a cliff to her death.

Of course, she has to be the most beautiful and stubborn fae I’ve ever met. Might as well take an arrow meant for her heart.

Now I’m stuck babysitting a female with more secrets than I own weapons. She’s a contradiction with everything she does, and it only makes me crave her more.

But someone attacked her carriage, and the arrow I yanked from my shoulder has all the clues. Nyx is hiding something, and I’m desperate to prove to her that she can trust me as more than a guard.

If I’m to protect her and our new rulers, I need answers. So why can’t I force myself to get them from her?

Nyx

I wonder if every battle I’ve fought since washing ashore was all for her.

But the arms that rescued me from that cliff might be more than I bargained for. Hella is a beautiful force to be reckoned with. She’s stubborn and harsh, clever and alluring, and I know she sees through the lies I weave about who I am.

Lies that have kept me safe since I fled the island of witches nineteen years ago.

Death has chased me from the moment I was born, but I’ve always fought back. And with someone from my past come to haunt me, I might forced to give up the woman I love.

Hell & High is book 3 in the Faeted Hearts series. While each book will be following new main characters, it continues with the plot and events from Storm & Sacrifice and Guard & Guise, including character crossover, and is suggested to read them in series order.

I’ve been low-key obsessed with Hella since Storm & Sacrifice. She was a brusque-voiced enigma wrapped in a solid wall of muscle, and I wanted moooore. We got a better look into her life in Guard & Guise, but I still wanted MORE. Finally, my patience has paid off!

I loved delving into Hella’s history and her mind in this spring-themed romance. She’s basically everything you could want in a stoic, standoffish, beefy bodyguard, plus she’s hot as hell! She’s got a distinct voice and point of view that never really wavers even when she’s falling in love—she only becomes *more* Hella.

Nyx’s introduction is heartbreaking and beautiful, and it’s easy to be drawn into the mysteries surrounding her and understand why Hella becomes obsessed. I’m a sucker for a love interest getting rescued, and we get plenty of that here, but Nyx plays an active role in her life and in this story. The pair complete each other in all the right ways and draw out the best that each has to offer.

Oh, and did I mention it’s sapphic? And the spice is top-notch??? And there’s a trellis?????

Oops, might have read this in two sittings! I've been so excited to get back into this world and experience all the feels with the characters. The callbacks to previous funny elements of the last books always crack me up. I loved our two main characters in this book. Hella and Nyx are adorable. We've seen glimpses of Hella several times throughout the previous two books, but it was nice to get to know her better. The romance was perfect and of course had me kicking my feet, squealing, the whole bit. I have struggled so bad to focus on reading recently, but these books always snap me out of that. I'm sad there is only one book left. I swear these are such hidden gems! If you love romantic fantasy and are in the mood for a fast-paced novella, please pick these up!!

Guys, I've been waiting for Hella's story! We see her as a fun side character in both Storm & Sacrifice and Guard & Guise, but we didn't know much about her at all. I just KNEW it was going to be a banger backstory, and I was not let down one bit. This will be a sapphic romantasy, and if you love fast paced romantasy books, this is yet another bingeable one in this series.

Each book in this series just gets better, and really builds on each other so well - further developing the plot with more world-building sprinkled in, while we get to focus on new couples too! You best believe we get to see the past couples too (and I so love that). Side note: there was a moment in this book where you get to see a genuine friendship moment that brought tears to my eyes.

Immediately right off the bat there is an attraction! It's pretty cutesy but also lusty at the same time, if that makes sense. At the end of the day Nyx is just a girl who loves Hella's thick thighs. I love that we can comment on how strong Hella is physically, but also now get to see a softer and vulnerable side to her. It provides great depth to the story, but also to her as a character. She might be my favorite now.

Hella tries so hard to keep things professional as she's been assigned to guard Nyx after an attack on her carriage. She plays the stoic and grumpy bodyguard to Nyx's sunshine character. When some things don't align with the attack, they have to piece things together and unravel the mystery. We're not even done figuring everything out, so I can't wait for the next book!

Many, many thanks for Laura Winter for the ARC :)

🌶️: 7 on RCRS (multiple open door scenes with tame language)

If Storm & Sacrifice was sexy, and Guard & Guise was tender, then Hell & High was… fun? Stick with me: nothing about the storyline was fun - in fact in a lot of ways it felt more high stakes than Sera’s story - but there was something so wonderfully safe about Hella, and so incredibly resilient about Nyx that I had no doubt they’d figure it out. And so I was really able to sit back and really enjoy both the story and the romance.

And what a cool story and romance it is! Going into H&H we know very little about Hella, she’s been the quiet force in the background of the other two books, and learning about her was the epitome of the idiom “still waters run deep”. There is something very gentle hiding behind her strong and silent exterior and the more that she reveals to us, the more I want to know. Nyx is also a delight to get to know, and her inner strength in light of her circumstances is impressive. The woman is tough! And I think that’s what I enjoyed the most about Hell & High: it was such fun learning how appearances can be deceiving is some of the best ways possible.

Thank you to Laura Winter for the opportunity to read & honestly review Hell & High prior to its release.

This book tore me apart then put me back together again, my emotions ran wild throughout the entire thing. There were some major unexpected twists, and they caught me off guard every time!

Hella could not catch a break, instead she was busy catching the stunning fae known as Nyx, from falling off of a cliff. What a meet-cute! Though, what follows is an array of secrets, hilarious banter, and a bond neither of them expected to be…👀

Meanwhile, Nyx is great at hiding in the shadows. Being a runaway with too many lies and too much on the line. Although she does have one major obsession that she can’t hide. Hella’s thighs. 😂

I loved how deep their histories ran individually. Then, how their grief, survival, and fate intertwined until their love felt inseparable. Nyx and Hella were made for one another, they brought out the best in each other and I devoured every second of their love! 🖤

U G H.

I knew I was going to love Hella's story from the moment she was introduced in book 1.

what i didn't realize was how much the ENTIRE story was going to captivate me! (which I should have, Winter is an AMAZING author.)

Hella was so lovable with her gruff exterior but CINNAMON SWEER HEART!!! are you kidding me??? and nyx?? the way she was INSTANTLY SMITTEN is so me for real.

the surprising underdog for me was Hunter, though. I don't know why, but she just had left a bad taste in my mouth UNTIL [redacted]. AND THEN???????

im going to have to reread the entire thing with [redacted] now.

break up with your current book and read this one asap

OMG how does this series just keep getting better??? This was perfection!!🤌

I was so excited for Hella's story, but Nyx totally won me over too. Having the dual POV to see how both of them tried so hard to play it cool was the best entertainment.

Hella's backstory ruined me. I cannot comprehend how so much story and emotion is packed into these shorter books. The way we are broken and put back together in under 300 pages is incredible.

Not to mention the tension and spice. That epilogue 🤤🥵

I will not fucking rest. I don’t need to fucking rest. I need to find out why the fuck the lady is climbing down a trellis in the middle of the night and lying to me about going to assassinate a fae with a fucking rusted butter knife.

A+. This very easy reading and entertaining novella length series continues to be a gift, and Hella and Nyx were delights.

Hella and Nyx are EVERYTHINGGGG! I loved the communication between them, the clear immediate attraction they each felt, their honesty about their history. It was all so good. While their back stories are a bit sad, this book still remains on the lighter side and it makes their connection all the more lovely. And while they are each attracted immediately, they try to fight it for a while and that tension had me unable to put this book down.

Laura has the ability to create wonderful, intricate stories in approximately 200 pages and the fact that we get a solid plot and a spicy sapphic romance in that few pages feels like being we are being spoiled. Throw in that we get to see the characters from the first two books frequently, and I was in book heaven!

Tropes include
- sapphic romance
- body guard
- wound care (hurt/comfort)
- grumpy/sunshine
- high fantasy world
- found family (characters from the first two books)
- hidden magic/royalty
- thighsssss

Hella and Nix are just...

Absolutely perfection.

We have caught moments with Hella here and there but in Hell & High we really get to see her shine.

Then we have Nix.

A stranger that needs rescuing, hiding her own secrets of her past.

This story was an incredible continuation from Storm & Sacrifice and Guard & Guise. I love being able to learn more about the characters and their relationships not only with their closest friends but watching them be able to grow.

Also Hella is just... yum.

"Hold on, baby."

Where do I start at how much I love this book.

Hella is a side character in Books 1 and 2 although she has main character energy.

The friendship triangle between Hella, Kaelan and Malachi is so well written and hillarious. Found family is so strong in this series and I love it.

Nyx is a ray of sunshine with such an interesting mind. Her POV had me howling, mostly due to the thaughts about Hella thighs.

Hella is the right amount of strong yet understanding that Nyx needs, Nyx allows Hella to be vulnerable.

I loved Hella and Nyx together, their interactions were funny, emotional, spicy and it was a fantastic book.

The ongoing plot regarding the strange rituals continues and leaves yet more questions. Book 4 is definitely going to be interesting.

I binged the Faeted Hearts series and had SO much fun reading, I was giggling and kicking my feet the entire time 🤭 (and sometimes having my heartstrings pulled on or stressing lol) They are inter-connected stand-alones, and still getting a developed plot and fleshed out characters in 200ish pages. I also enjoyed the elements of mystery in each, and the found family/friendships. Each book feels different, even though some things tie back, and we get to see couples we love from the first two books in this one. I really liked Hella from book one, and knew I was gonna love her story ! (Muscle mommy can throw my short ass over her shoulder and do whatever she wants to me tbh)

I loved getting to know Hella more, and getting at times getting a softer/more vulnerable side of her. And Both her and Nyxs tragic backstories are heart wrenching 😭 Hella and Nyx compliment each other so well, and the yearning? Oh my gawd. (hot!) I also love a hurt/comfort situation. Plus they have such healthy communication. They are just perfect.

I could keep reading about the Faeted couples forever, honestly!
