Kraken Cove 2: Starting Over With The Sea Monster

Rate this book
I've been burned before and I've learned my lesson. So the only thing this small town sea monster is looking for is a good review, not a fated mate!

As a chef and I know all about how to handle the heat in the kitchen, even if it takes all eight tentacles to do it! The same doesn’t apply to my love life. Once burned, twice shy. I'm steering clear.

When famous human food critic Olivia Zeston walks into my brand new restaurant, she turns the heat up instantly. So much so that she’s in danger of melting my icy resolve. Even worse, as soon as we start talking I realize she’s more to me than just another hurt and lonely soul in need of comfort. She's my fated mate. The only problem? I don't want a fated mate. I can't be tied to anyone for the rest of our lives. I've learned the hard way that having those sorts of expectations is a recipe for heartache.

But beneath the veneer of Olivia's cheerful confidence, there’s a woman who just needs to be loved. Can I stop myself?

I swore I’d never go down this path again, but here I am falling head over tentacles. The draw to her is like a rip tide, pulling me under. But this city girl from the other side of the world will never settle for a small town sea monster. Just when I've decided to risk handing her my heart on a plate, I realize I might have bitten off more than I can chew?

Been waiting for this one and it was such a good read. From their first meeting they had an instant attraction and an insane amount of chemistry.

This was a perfect small town, beach, sweet and steamy read. Noah was super grumpy to everyone around him except to Oliva. She brought out a softer romantic side to him. He helped her realize everything she was missing in her previous relationships and showed her how beautiful and worthy she is.

I liked watching them slowly fall in love while being be in denial about it😭. They found it hard to stay away from each other. The more time they spent together the closer they got and the more they fell. They had an amazing connection in AND out of the bedroom.

They both had super supportive families who were there for them when things went a little south.

I enjoyed this one a lot. Dont think ill be over them anytime soon but im also super excited for the next book.

*** this might be the petty side to me but in would have liked for their exs to see them being happy and in love and at least regret or feel like sh!t over what they did.

ARC Review
Book 1 was just fantastic so I was super excited for this one! The flavour of it is very different, the first was extremely sweet, wholesome and summery, this one is a lot more angsty and modern with a red flag hero so I wasn't prepared for what felt almost like another genre within one series, but it's still good!

I really enjoyed the fast-paced beginning and all the stress and shenanigans in the restaurant but I couldn't get on board with how the characters had literally just met and already started getting touchy-feely without knowing anything about each other. This carries on for the duration, they basically both find each other attractive and both have had bad relationships before so they become friends with benefits and agree not to get attached. There's tons of spicy scenes but because they weren't being romantic or anything, they left me cold, I can't understand being intimate with someone you don't love, so that's just a me issue.

The main problem is that he's a jerk and he fully knows it and doesn't try to do better. In the first pages he yells at a shy waitress and my guard was up. He regards our girl Olivia as a fun toy and we find out he's essentially known in town as the heartbreaking manslvt, even by his brothers. His dialogue is very trendy, he's very smug and offhand, cocky, no romance or sweetness. At times I forgot this was a monster romance because it's very much filled with human issues and a lot of fighting in the second half. I'm not going to give away any spoilers but a really scary worry comes up for Olivia and instead of looking after her and being responsible he throws the most toxic tantrum, screams the place down and leaves her crying. At that point I was done, get hit by a bus bro, you suck! I hated him. And I hate that somehow several chapters later he snivels enough that she somehow, unbelievably, forgives him and they live toxically ever after. No, I didn't like that.

The story itself, the writing, the pace, the kraken stuff was all great but the 'hero' ruined it. He didn't evolve or prove himself enough in any way to fix all the nastiness, just thoroughly selfish and immature. But I suppose his flaws were very well written and it is more realistic that he didn't become Prince Charming at the end as people rarely do, so kudos to Wright for letting the character lead and doing something different!

A vacation and a failed relationship land food-blogger Olivia squarely in the path of grumpy, emotionally walled-off chef Noah—a kraken still knee-deep in the wreckage of his own heartbreak. The chemistry between them is instant and electric, the kind that feels fated. They agree to explore this thing between them with one condition: no catching feelings.

Noah is clinging to his pain and mistrust, wearing his bitterness like armor. Meanwhile, Olivia is still reeling—adrift in the aftermath of her breakup and confused by the magnetic pull she feels toward this infuriating man she can’t seem to stay away from. But as they spend time together, challenge each other, and slowly lower their guards, they begin to wonder if something real might be possible—something neither of them expected to find.

This was the perfect little beach read, full of cozy summer vibes, emotional messiness, and a healthy dash of heat. Olivia and Noah are deeply flawed and incredibly human (or, uh, kraken) and watching them navigate their connection was entertaining. When I say Noah is grumpy, I mean he’s not just prickly—he’s borderline insufferable at times. But watching him slowly crack open and learn how to be soft (especially with people who aren’t Olivia) felt rewarding. Olivia is in a moment of personal chaos, trying to find her footing as her life takes a massive twist—and it’s through both Noah and her own strength that she finds her path forward. I worried a little bit that Noah would not redeem himself, but overall I think his “repentance” was believable and satisfying.

I loved Noah’s kraken family who bring a lovely touch of warmth and found-family goodness to the story. That subplot really helped balance out the angst and added to the overall coziness of Kraken Cove. And yes, there is some fun tentacle spice—because let’s be honest, we are absolutely here for that.

Overall, this was a sweet, spicy, emotionally satisfying story with real character growth and just enough fantasy to make it extra fun. I loved being back in Kraken Cove and can’t wait for the next story in the series!

We’re back in Kraken Cove, this time with our favorite grumpy (secretly cinnamon roll) kraken chef, who finds love and his fated mate when it’s the LAST thing on his mind.

Noah has been burned by love before and he’s learned his lesson – he’s not interested in feelings and doesn’t believe in fated mates.

When Olivia comes to town, Noah is hoping the famous food critic will come to his new restaurant and grace him with a glowing review. The problem? Well, Olivia turns up the heat in Noah’s kitchen, threatening to melt his icy resolve and she makes him glow from the inside out…literally…because she’s his fated mate. Now Noah feels a pull to her he can’t ignore…but he thinks it’s going to end in a disaster. And Olivia? Well, she told herself she’d never fall head over heels, in this case tentacles, again…

Did these two bite off more than they can chew?

Noah is guarded, grumpy and has sworn off developing real connections, but when Olivia turns up? Noah can’t seem to get his tentacles in check. *cue: squealing!* This grumpy sea monster fights his feelings because he’s afraid to be vulnerable and f*cking without feelings is easier…right? WRONG. And we’re glad that he’s wrong and that Olivia breaks down his walls because she complements him in every way. That’s not to say that once feelings develop are there big declarations right away and it’s smooth sailing…far from it actually, BUT Noah does redeem himself by his gestures and groveling. Plus, who can blame Olivia? A sea monster who shows you with his actions how you deserve to be treated (even if he’s slow on the uptake with his words at first) and can wring pleasure out of you like nobody’s business? Well, yes, chef. Sign me up!

🔥 “Gonna be a good girl and c❤me for me?”
~~~
Olivia is a popular food critic and blogger. She’s so nice, kind and sweet. Even more, she’s so understanding and supportive. And I loved that she also had the courage to stand up for herself when needed. Olivia is a really wonderful woman and I liked her so, so much!
And Noah is such a wonderful male, too! Yes, the owner and head chef of The Snapper, can be quite bossy, rude and crude. But underneath his grumpy facade, is a considerate and caring male who’s been hurt in the past and has put very high walls around his heart. And not only he can cook… but the things he can do with those tentacles! Noah is an amazing male and there was just so much to love about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Olivia and Noah! From the very beginning, their chemistry was off-the-charts. But Noah doesn’t do relationships and Olivia is recently single… Yeah, both have their own baggage to deal with, but the attraction blooming between them couldn't be denied either. And to make things even more complicated, Noah's tentacles start glowing, but he’s absolutely determined to ignore the fated mate “myth”. What starts as a spicy (and I mean SPICY) bargain between Olivia and Noah, quickly becomes so much more… And established rules get broken. The development of their relationship was quite the whirlwind - there was passion, there was humor, there were vulnerable moments and there was drama and heartbreak. But in the end, it was all worth it, because Noah and Olivia were truly perfect for each other and more than deserved a second chance in love together.
Overall, the story is another fun, naughty and emotional addition to the series and I loved every page of it!
Gleeful Goblin Review: What a way to come back to Kraken Cove! I'm head over heels for this author's work period but when we start going into kraken territory.....I'm done for in the best kind of way.
Our FMC Olivia is a food blogger who is in Kraken Cove thanks to a vacation and a failed relationship, looking for purpose and distraction from her troubles. What she finds is an emotional brick wall in the form of kraken chef Noah. He is determined to keep pretty much everyone at a distance after a crushing heartbreak. But Noah isn't in the mood to be charmed or find new love and puts a good amount of effort into keeping Olivia at tentacle's length away, a long with everyone else. Which makes the mutual attraction and sizzling chemistry all the more problematic for both of our main characters. So, their solution is to explore this electricity is a no strings, no feelings allowed arrangement. Clearly, that will totally work out and feelings will definitely not be caught right? HA! Love and fate makes fools of humans and krakens alike. No matter what they intended, love is gonna get these dorks.
This is not a neat and uncomplicated romance. It's an emotionally messy, bumpy romance type journey for these two and there are moments you'll probably be so frustrated with these two you'll want to scream. But stick it out because this is SO WORTH IT. 5/5 Stars
I’ve been looking forward to this book since I read the first one. Noah intrigued me in the first book and I wanted to get to know more of his story. And we got it. I loved being able to find out a bit more about what happened with his ex fiance. I loved Olivia and how she was able to bring out his sweet side and settle him down when needed. She really centered him. But I will admit…..I wanted to smack him for most of the book. I understood he got his heart broken, so putting up walls for his relationships totally made sense. But I couldn’t understand why he was so grumpy and rude to everyone else too. He was always looking to pick a fight and take things so personally. But thankfully he really does redeem himself when he finally works through his issues and wants to make that commitment to Olivia. He goes all out and does everything he can to show her that he means what he’s said to her. Loved it!
I did receive an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
The chef and the food critic mend their broken
hearts 💔
Engaging, emotional read with steam. Olivia is a food critic who is dropped by her boyfriend while she is in Australia. While grieving, she meets Noah who has a new restaurant and happens to be a Kracken. He tries to be unemotional with all his relationships after being left at the alter for his best friend. In some ways Olivia is too good for him - she is honest with her feelings, is loving and kind, and silly Noah thinks he can deny the bond of them being fated mates. He thinks he’s in control and protecting his heart - poor man 😁. After a big mistake, I like how he redeems himself and becomes a better person all around. I enjoyed the monster world building and family interactions and this has been a great series so far. I voluntarily reviewed a free Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
4.75 stars. This story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, male kraken (Noah)/female human (Olivia), rebound to more, fated mates, contemporary fantasy romance. I enjoyed seeing Olivia seize the opportunity to enjoy herself. I was amused by Noah’s determination to ignore the fated mate signals and try for a fling. I enjoyed seeing him realise that he wanted significantly more. I enjoyed Olivia’s self-esteem, and her refusal to accept a simple apology for inappropriate behaviour. I enjoyed the erotic intimate scenes, and the joy found in the deepening relationship. I enjoyed the ending and the setup for the next story.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
This entertaining PNR is very steamy with a cast of likable and quirky characters. I really like the MCs.  Olivia makes videos as a restaurant critic and an influencer. She is visiting Australia from the States when her boyfriend breaks up with her. She meets Noah, a kraken shifter who is a chef. His tentacles totally light up when he meets her, and you can guess what that means...yes, fated mates. Only, the problem is that he needs to overcome being left at the altar in the past. The writing and the world building are terrific, and there are interesting and unexpected plot points that keep you wrapped up in the story. I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series.
Sweet and spicy!
I love Kraken Cove!! I fell in love with this world in book 1, so of course I couldn't wait for more! And now we're getting Noah's story! He's such a grump and I loved seeing him lose himself with Olivia. It's got all those grumpshine vibes. Noah is kind of miserable. He's been heartbroken and has settled on never wanting love. Then comes Olivia who absolutely takes his breath away. She's also heartbroken, so together they help each other move on. It's not an easy path and I cried with them. You can't help but love them and want them to get their HEA. I ate this story up and I can't want for more from this world!!
A chef that is a sea creature and a food critic lands in each other’s path, what can possibly go wrong. Their romance story was funny and heartwarming. The book is easy to follow and a fun read. Olivia produces videos when her partner breaks up with her, she is in Australia on a trip from the United States. She encounters Noah, a chef who is also a kraken shifter. When he meets her, his tentacles light up completely, and you can guess what that means: fated mates, yes. The sole issue is that he must get over being left at the altar in the past. I'm very excited about the upcoming book in this series.
A lovely story. We return to Kraken Cove for Noah's love story.
He's been burned before and we're not just talking in the kitchen. He resists the tasty dessert fate dishes up for him.
Olivia is just wanting a peaceful holiday when fate lands her one hot chef.
Is it a recipe for disaster? More than likely...a good romance always has a smidge of tension, a pinch of angst and a huge dollop of steamy sessions.
I'm hungry, and you should be too for this tasty kraken romance.
Ami Wright has captured my heart once again with her writing skill.
I am so looking forward to returning for the next one.
I absolutely enjoyed first 50% of story. I loved how Noah is presented as a truly emotionaly unavailable one. He is a really difficult to deal with, undoubtably crude and rude.
On the other side Olivia is quite a naive sunshine girl and has several life lessons to learn.
Second half of story is a bit too sweet for me and I hoped for a bit different course of action.
Anyway, I have spent a good time with this story. I was happy to come back to Kraken Cove and I am waiting for next installment.
P.S. It is a great treat for all lovers of naughty tentacles! 😬
I wasn’t sure at first how I felt about Noah. I get he’s been hurt but hell. He was so cold, crude and unfair to Olivia. And deadest on ignoring the fated mate signs. Meanwhile, she’s quite sweet and deserves better from her ex and at first from Noah. Of course they get there in the end. Noah’s arc evolved so he could accept Olivia is his fated mate. He redeems himself. It was nice to visit Kraken cove again. This book had a lot sexy scenes. I voluntarily reviewed a free Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This made me hungry!
A lovely squeal to the first and what a roller coaster it was. spicy, sweet, and that's not just the food described in this. there was a moment I cried, which was to do with the dad going through bowel cancer as my dad went through and I could relate to what the characters were going through, (10+ years later and he's still going strong).
I'm very much looking forward to what Jack's story has to offer.
I'm so happy to be back in Kraken Cove!
Noah and Olivia's story was filled with ups and downs but the chemistry was undeniable!
Olivia, a popular food critic and Noah the head chef and owner of The Snapper are quite pair! They both have their own baggage going on but they decide to give into temptation but to keep feelings out of it.
I loved finally getting Noah's story and seeing Luke and Mia again!
I'm so excited for Jack's story!
Another absolute banger from Ami, I honestly don’t think she can do any wrong, her books are always a hit and this is no exception. Noah and Olivia are both characters that have a sweet innocence to them that shines through, even with Noah’s tough boy attitude, and both of them are so easy to root for. The love and lust in this book are so intense and fantastically delicious. I can’t wait for Jack and Tegs story next.
Great read! Aussie chef Noah meets American food critic Olivia in this absolutely sweet and spicy romance read! I love that they think having little rules from the beginning could ever stop love at first sight like they so obviously had! But it’s a whirlwind of a story and I’m so happy with how it ended. Love when Noah finally gets cozy and sweet instead of his playboy facade!
I must admit that I didn't think I would enjoy the second book as well as I did the first. I was wrong.
The unexpected twist that develops throughout Noah and Olivia's story is 🔥🔥
The characters are blissful, emotional and also very transparent. Ami sure does know how to deliver a hot addictive read. Who could ask for more. Eh when can we expect book #3 🤣🤣🤣?
The chef and the food critique, both with their own baggage and both with their own ‘rules’. But what happens when fate takes the reins and now you’re mated to a kraken?
The spice, the instant chemistry, the undeniable butterflies that you’ll get in your belly as a reader watching their relationship develop.
Ami writes the best monster romances that tug at all the emotions. Her characters and scenes are well described, and I feel I'm a part of the story. And tentacles - wow.
A story of a chef and a food critic, both have been hurt and very hesitant to try again. But can you fight being fated mates? This story is about communication, steam, angst, denial before finding their well deserved hea.
Monster Romance with a delicious twist for us foodies.
This second stand-alone volume in the Krajen Cove series was spicy and delicious, I loved the foodie topic and the relatable MCs. I "only" gave it 4 stars because it's a bit more angsty than I like my books usually, but overall a very enjoyable read.
I wrote a review for Kraken cove 1. It was fantastic so today I read Kraken cove 2. It was everything I could have wished for. I don't want to put out spoilers but it was wonderful seeing Noah evolve. Love triumphs in the end because after all this is a HEA. Now I will have to wait til Kraken cove 3 comes out next month. This series is well worth the read and the wait.
Noah was a dick. Exactly as one expects a hot shot chef to be. The characterization was almost too good. I didn’t like him for almost half of the book. However… he knew what to do with that impertinent tongue of his, if you know what I mean.
With his personality it would be like dating Sid Vicious. With tentacles. Who can cook.
it was ok
I read until he said he was thinking about meeting up with another girl and then I skipped to the last few chapters just to see how it ended. The MFC cried waaayyyy too much for me. And the MMC was a jerk the first few chapters to the point I didn’t understand how they could even build a relationship.
Listen, Ami knows her smut—and she doesn’t just throw it at you. She weaves it in so smoothly between heartbreak, frustration, and enough tension to make you scream… before smothering you with that sweet, sweet happily ever after. So yeah, I more than enjoyed this book—I devoured it.
