Read this book, read this book, read this book!!! I walked into work earlier this week and said to my boss (we work in youth ministry), “you need to listen to this quote from this book.” I ended up reading more than one (because of course I did) and 2 lines we got stuck on in the best way were this: “being is doing” along with “you don’t have to know you just have to go.” Being called into the unknown by God is a scary concept, but Joy Reyes clearly not only followed that calling but SOARED into God’s plans with wonder and open arms. I am inspired, saddened by the heartache of these girls, but feeling empowered to go be part of something bigger than myself. (And shoutout bestie Lauren—you inspire me daily!!)

“Never look back. Praise me and pray.”

Wow! I loved this.

I’ve heard Joy speak at various conferences and events since she founded New Hope Girls in 2011, and have held a deep curiosity about the work she has done in the Dominican Republic for the last 20 years.

Her debut book not only answers questions I’ve had, but also includes beautiful encouragements and words of wisdom that call people to action within their own lives.

I would recommend this book, and could see it making a great gift as it was a quick and would pair so well with one of New Hope’s beautiful bags!!

I couldn’t put it down!
What a beautiful and EMPOWERING story it is! To be able to say that ALL of it came from a “simple yes” is mind blowing and inspirational. I lost count of how many times I cried (I am not a cryer when I read) and was left feeling motivated and excited for what MY yes will be. I hope that I will listen and act when lead to say yes.
Thank you for sharing your story and the story of New Hope girls. It’s both beautiful and inspirational! ♥️

Joy Reyes weaves stories, Scripture, and poetry together to tell the tale of New Hope Girls. This book will make you cry, make you laugh, and make you think about God’s purpose for your life. I had the pleasure of serving at New Hope in the early days, working with Joy and watching as much of the story of New Hope unfolded. “I am Joy” reminded me of the power of prayer. It reminded me to be bold and trust God each day.

This book is quick to read because of how it is written. This book is hard to read due to the sensitive nature of the content. This book is an important read because it is the reality of life in the Dominican Republic and so many other places in the world.

Cannot wait to gift this book to as many people as possible to share the importance of supporting New Hope Girls and encouraging others to say “yes” to the Lord. Step out in obedience to His call on your life. You never know how God will use you to impact the nations.

Such a beautiful book. I had the privilege of going on a missions trip in 2015 during the early stages of Joy’s ministry and this book takes me right back. Walking through the barrio and seeing the original location where New Hope Bags started, purchasing multiple bags and the special edition Vera collab bag, and reading about the collaboration with Vera Bradley brought everything full circle. Thank you Joy for the work you do and sharing your ministry with us all! God bless you, New Hope Girls, and everyone reading along on this journey!!
