Fangs on Ice #4

It's A Little Bit Bunny

Rate this book
For the past few months, Nikolai Lorenz' brain has been a weird place. Things got darker and heavier until the Big Sad drowned out everything that's good about his life. Not even hockey or puppies can lift his mood anymore and he knows he needs help.
When his therapist suggests forest walks, he grudgingly follows his orders. He wants back on the roster--and fast. Hockey is the only thing he's good at and his life is even more empty without it.
On his first outing he loses his way in the vast forests of the Fichtel Mountains. The old man who rescues him from having to kip under the stars is no other than the elusive Höimann, a dangerous creature lurking in the woods.

The young human wandering through his forest intrigues Jules so much the self-proclaimed hermit reveals himself and takes him back to his house. For two centuries humans have been too scared to approach him but this one? He treats him with kindness.

This is the longest in the series with a bit of a slow burn but understandable considering the back stories of both MMC's. It's quite a sweet take as both men are soft for each other and in need of healing love.
If I'm honest, it's not my favourite in the series, Jules shifting forms constantly threw me a bit and Nikolais acceptance of everything without question snapped me out of the cosy fantasy cos he should have at least had some but thisnis a work of fiction and its still a really cute read.
If you like Rhea Fox books (and I do), then you will like this one too x

Jules and Nikolai!
This was so cute, all the books in this series have been so cute and with every new one that gets added it feels like it becomes my new fave of the series!
Nikolai has been struggling mentally so he's out on one of his walks when he bumps into Jules and gets the fright of his life.
Jules was intrigued by the human and tried to disguise himself.
They both needed each other more that what they realised, Jules was the anchor to Nikolai to keep him grounded and made him feel better than he has in a long time.
I whizzed through this so fast because I just couldn't get enough!

These two had me kicking my feet!!

Nik and Jules are so stinkin' cute! The way they are so soft with each other and how they support each other through tough moments 🥰🥰🥰 squee! I loved getting to visit with the other Fangs on Ice characters (confession: I still have them all on my TBR 😬 but I didn't feel like I was missing any major plot points during this story). Another cute and cozy story from Rhea!

This is the fourth installment from Rhea Fox in the Fangs on Ice series, and I wasn't nearly as big a fan of this one as I was of the other books in the series. This story features another human from the hockey team and a forest god. It's pretty unclear of the extent of the magical beings powers or exactly what he is. There's some hints of his past and the issue of his mom being a huge creep and him needing to get away, the fact that he doesn't know who is father is (but there's no real follow up or confirmation on that), and that he's been living this persona of a forest kind of demon that disappears people. That character's backstory just didn't seem finished or fully developed. I loved that there's the ADHD and depression representation and the acceptance of those issues from a partner and not trying to "fix" the problem or the person. But the book kind of gave me the ick. There was way too much thanking each other after sex for likely anyone’s comfort. We get it, that dick is good. Let’s do a blanket thank you and move on. And since they got freaky frequently after admitting their feelings, it was a ton of thanks you's. Say less. And as a couple, their dynamic definitely didn’t make sense. They both seem to want to be the one taken care of AND do the caring for the other, simultaneously. Pick a side! Or at least pick a side for each intimate scene and stick to that through the end and don’t switch mid bang. I will say that even though their personal dynamic changed frequently, the spicy scenes were pretty hot. So even if there's something off about them, Rhea Fox knows her way around a smutty scene. Would recommend the book if you're just looking for some down and dirty fun.
The story definitely ends on a positive note with a HEA, but there's just a lot that felt up in the air and unfinished. Wouldn't read this one again.

I really enjoy this series and I want to dive into what I enjoyed from this book first. I LOVED the setting, a magic castle that forms to the whims of a magical forest god with a cute pet who loves the other MC. Also gardening, chickens, picnics outside and a lake to swim in sounds like actual heaven. I also felt that the MCs had a lot of chemistry, even before they started to have some sexy times. I loved how they awkwardly spend time together, hesitant to make the first move, but flashing each other smiles and small touches. I also loved seeing Nikolai represent depression and anxiety, going to therapy and making an effort to fight through it.

However, there were a few things I didn’t enjoy about this book. I felt like once they did start having *fun* with each other, that became the main focus. It pulled away from Jule’s trauma and discovering his Herat, Nikolai and his mental health struggles, getting back on the ice and any domestic moments between the MCs that could have been really cute. Almost every chapter, every sweet moment or serious moment that I was immersed in immediately lead to that. I love spice, but I want it paired with tenderness as well; development to their relationship. It also bothered me that they didn’t talk about the mate bond, it just happened and Nikolai accepted it. Also all the nicknames and some of the lines started to grate on me a bit, but that could be because I started to get lost along the way. Overall I still think the rest of the books in the series are good, but this one just didn’t really do it for me.

Oh my heart. I absolutely adore this story!! Rhea writes the best characters and the sweetest love stories filled with real emotions & experiences.

Nikolai is a human hockey player who has recently received an ADHD and depression diagnosis.

Jules is a forest god who keeps to himself and takes care of the woods.

They meet when Nikolai gets lost in the forest during a mental health walk. The attraction is instant & mutual but both are afraid to speak it. Their journey to each and a relationship is sweet and spicy and beyond precious. Delightful!

Nikolai is an immensely relateable character. His late ADHD diagnosis and depression hit very close to home and his desire to be the best and win at it? Oof. Gonna sit with that one for a bit. Watching him learn and grow and realize he doesn't have to be okay all the time and he still has value is so beautiful.

Jules is such a stunning character. He has stuff of his own that he needs to work through, including a very traumatic start to life and horrific mother. Watching him blossom and step into his true self and love with his whole soul will warm your heart & fill you with joy.

I adore Rhea's writing. My brain loves the way she crafts stories and how she puts words together. My heart & soul adorr the way she describes & portrays neurodivergence and mental health challenges. I feel so seen when reading her stories.

Make sure to check out the content warnings. Your mental health matters and needs to be protected no matter how phenomenal the book is.

Thank you to the author for a free e-ARC! This is my honest review!
SG Rating: 4.5; Rounded up to 5 for GR

It's A Little Bit Bunny follows hockey player Nikolai, who after taking a walk in the forest to quiet his dark mind, runs into Jules, the "dangerous" Höimann.

Nikolai learns Jules is really just a shy, sweet hermit who lives caring for the forest, his chickens, and pet Wolpertinger. It's an instant connection between the two and the more they see each other, the harder it gets to let each other go!

Rhea built such a perfect hockey team! I loved seeing all of the players get their HEA! If you love instant-connections, sweet shape-shifters, and men who call other men "baby", this is for you!!

Nikolai has been struggling with his mental health lately. Trying to get better and back on the roster of his hockey team as soon as possible, has him walking through the forest. Touching grass and all that. But maybe there's something better to touch waiting for him in the woods....

These two are the CUTEST!!! OMG how are Rhea's characters are getting more adorable with each book? No idea, they just are 🥹🥰
The way Jules reassures Nikolai, that it's okay to not be okay, that he's perfect just the way he is and that he can be vulnerable with him without having to be afraid of getting hurt? 😭❤️‍🩹
Two lonely boys (okay one is 400something years old, but still such a precious baby) finally finding solace in each other's arms and hearts. Amazing!!

Nikolai, a human hockey player, and Jules, a forest god, are absolutely adorable together in this novella. Nikolai, in an attempt to better his mental health, goes on a little walk through the forest. Little does he know, he ends up in a trap. Jules immediately feels a connection to him, though, and lets him go. Nik keeps coming back and the two spend more and more time together - gardening and swimming and drinking wine - as their feelings grow. The two are so good together, especially in those spicy scenes!

Low angst

The cuteness level of this book was off the charts! I love that it seems like their relationship develops more naturally they got to know each other and built a friendship first!!

I only wish there was a bit more drama, it seemed like it was building to something happening with Jules's mother then just nothing... so that kinda felt like a let down.

Oh my goodness. Best Rhea Fox book yet. The characters grew so much together and separately. I loved the interactions.between the MCs from this book and the previous ones. The discussions of assumptions, consent, bringing up past trauma, finding your own footing after learning about being neurodivergent late in life. So good. I laughed, I got teary eyed, I got hot and bothered lol.

This book has healed my soul. I was crying for Nik and Jules the whole time! Their relationship starting out as “friendship” and then turning into something more than they thought they could have was truly beautiful.

❤️ all the rep

I love all the rep in this series! Individuals finding individuals for who they are and loving them for who they are, pieces and all. The different lore influences that are included in the stories in this series is also fun.

A perfect blend of smut and fluff and i really enjoyed it. A great read with no third act break up (I hate those). Highly recommend for anyone who needs a pallete cleanser

Am I missing chapters? Explanations, conversations, something? It feels incomplete back in the 40's chapters. It's probably my least favorite of the series 3/5

⭐️ARC REVIEW⭐️ (Patreon)
This had me all in my feelings, from the struggles of our poor hockey boy to the loneliness and fear of the fae prince. The most important part in this story felt like the comfort and care the two MMC’s felt and displayed for each other. Their relationship and development of each other's mental health were so beautifully well done that my heart was aching for both of them. And their little gardening sessions were so sweet and swoony. Such a beautiful story that made me feel all warm and fuzzy by the end!
