Rate this book
A desperate call. A missing woman. A case that could cost them everything…

Special Agent Peyton Hughes never expected to hear from her estranged cousin again—until a panicked phone call draws her to an abandoned train depot. But when she arrives, her cousin is gone, and Peyton is brutally attacked. She’s saved at the last second by Detective Dawson Graham…her ex-husband. And the only thing more shocking than seeing him again is the discovery of an abandoned baby at the scene.

Dawson never stopped loving Peyton, but their shared tragedy shattered everything between them. Now, forced to work together to uncover the truth behind her cousin’s disappearance, they quickly realize someone is willing to kill to keep their secrets buried.

With every lead exposing more dark secrets, Peyton and Dawson must untangle a deadly conspiracy. But when the investigation forces them to confront their painful past, will it bring them back together—or drive them apart forever?

Broken Silence is the third novel in the Badge of Honor series, but each book can be read as a standalone. Expect heart-pounding action, a gripping mystery, and tender romance with every turn of the page. If you love stories of resilience and faith in the face of danger, you won’t want to miss this series!

A phone call from her estranged cousin Lilia sets Peyton off to a deserted train depot to meet her - only to find her cousin vanished, leaving a baby behind. But her search for Lilia soon turns dangerous as it becomes clear that she had been involved with a gang and someone else is now after the baby. Dawson still isn't over the wife who divorced him following a tragedy, but when she calls him for help, he can't leave her to fend for herself - though he fully intends to walk away again afterward. But can they keep Lilia's baby safe when they don't even know who is trying to capture her or why? Will they be able to find Lilia in time? And can they ever hope to rebuild what Peyton destroyed?

An enjoyable read with lots of suspense and action but also plenty of heart. I loved watching them find a second chance after the tragedy that destroyed their marriage, and was particularly glad of Dawson's eventual willingness to forgive. Their efforts to keep the baby safe and discover who exactly the bad guys were, then bring them to justice, kept me interested and made a good counterpoint to the romance side of things. It also kept me guessing, in a good way, because of all that was going on with the bad guys. Note that while part of a series, this can easily be enjoyed as a standalone story.

Wow this story just jumped off the pages as the drama starts right from the start in this Christian Romantic Suspense. I really enjoyed the second chance romance between Special Agent Peyton Hughes and Detective Dawson Graham. When Peyton got the call from her estranged cousin, Lilia to meet with her at the abandoned train depot she knew she needed backup assistance. Even though she hadn't seen her ex- husband Dawson in over five years since their divorce, she knew that he would immediately come and help her.

Before Dawson arrives, Peyton hears a woman scream and she tries to find her cousin but she is attacked. That's when Dawson showed up and helped her get out of a dangerous situation. After their attacker flees they find an abandoned baby that is Lilia's . Lilia is missing and they are not sure if she's even alive and there are papers for Peyton to have guardianship of the baby.

So now Peyton and Dawson will have to put their past aside and try to find Lilia. There will be continued attacks as they dig into who is behind the kidnapping of Lilia.

Peyton and Dawson both had wounds from their divorce and the difficult situations that led up to it. They had been in love from teenagers and they both know that love had not stopped with the divorce. Will Dawson be able to forgive and trust Peyton again and will Peyton be able to put away her insecurities and wounds to reach out for a second chance?

This is the third book in the Badge of Honor Series and it was fine as a stand alone story.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

What tore these two apart was a lot of things that impacted on each other until for Peyton, there was no other thing left to do than to end their relationship, seeing this for both sides helped me to understand what had happened and I wanted to hug them both and hoped that they both would be able to self reflect, forgive and trust that God had brought them together for more than the obvious reason.

I liked the love and support in this, the way they were able to work together and face their past, and that the family that Peyton thought she'd lost was still there for her. If they trusted in God, were open and honest with each other, and were brave enough to take that second chance then their hearts could heal and the future they hoped and dreamed of may just come true. I also liked seeing the investigation and the different relationships shown throughout this.

Lynn Shannon comes through again with all the suspense, mystery, romance, second chances, and faith in her new book, Broken Silence. This is the third book in her Badge of Honor series, Peyton’s and Dawson’s story. Peyton is thrust into a volatile situation when her estranged cousin calls for help. Uncomfortable going into an unknown situation, she calls her ex-husband, Dawson for backup. From there, the tension ramps up when Peyton is attacked, her cousin is missing, and her cousin’s infant daughter is discovered in a deserted boxcar. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. Even though this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. I always recommend reading the entire series, though, because it is fun to revisit old friends from the previous books. This is a definite must-read for those who enjoy romantic suspense stories.

He kissed her like he'd been starving for her. Because he had been. Every day. Every night. For five long years.  She was everything he’d lost, but never stopped wanting.”

This is a romantic suspense with a fast pace plot.

Peyton gets a call from her cousin, Lillia, asking for help. But when she gets to the meeting place. She’s not there.

Dawson is Peyton’s ex husband. She calls him for help to find her cousin.

This is the perfect mix of romance & mystery. I got chills during one part & that hooked me and I binged the rest of the book.

“You are either the bravest woman I’ve ever met or the most reckless.” His mouth quirked up at the corner, making him seem both boyish and charming. “I’m thinking it’s a bit of both.”

Tropes
✨second chance
✨romantic suspense
✨small town
✨found family
✨she’s a special agent
✨he’s a detective

Broken Silence digs deep into the pain of Dawson and Peyton, pulling you right into their struggles, regrets, and heartache.
You truly feel everything they’ve been through. Dawson is easy to adore—his need to protect and his vulnerable heart that beats for Peyton make him stand out. Peyton’s strength is just as powerful, and you can’t help but admire everything she carries and overcomes.
You find yourself cheering for their second chance at love, even as danger stays fast at their heels, never letting up. The investigative side of the story is intriguing, adding another layer while also touching on a tender, emotional wound.
It’s full of action and tender moments, all woven together with a strong thread of faith.

Once again Lynn Shannon has woven a complex story with mystery, suspense, romance, and emotion. Broken Silence is all that and more—there are broken relationships, healing and forgiveness, family drama, family strength, intense moments, hidden evidence, and plenty of twists and turns.

Peyton and Dawson’s story is one of finding answers, trusting faith, and reaching for second chances. I loved being reacquainted with characters from previous books in both this series and another of her series, although any of her books can be read as a standalone.

I was hooked from page one and couldn’t put it down. If you’re looking for a gripping story that balances high-stakes tension with a deeply moving emotional arc, this is it!

This series just keeps getting better! I loved the first two books, but BROKEN SILENCE had me in a complete chokehold.

Peyton and Dawson are ex-spouses forced to work together when her cousin goes missing. The mystery kept me guessing, the action had my heart racing and watching these two get their second chance at love was truly special.

Lynn Shannon nails the balance of suspense, faith and romance. The characters feel real and the redemption story is beautifully done.

If you love romantic suspense with heart then this is a must read for you! I’m giving BROKEN SILENCE the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!

Easy read:
I enjoyed this Christian second chance, romantic suspense novel. It is part of a series with interconnecting characters, however it can very much be read as a standalone. Whilst all the elements were there, I personally found the plot to be quite predictable and similar to a number of other books that I've read. I was glad that Peyton and Dawson were able to reconcile after their divorce and the overall themes of healing after grief and forgiveness.

Peyton needs help, and she called her ex-husband. They divorced after their baby boy died.
Dawson can’t stand the idea of losing Peyton, so he helps her. He has no idea how that will change their lives.
Mystery, suspense, action and deep feelings are some of the best points in this book that will keep you biting your nails.
I liked that they asked God for help, as He was the only one who could save them.

The drama and action jump off the pages in the first chapter of Broken Silence. Special Agent Peyton Hughes and Detective Dawson Graham, a divorced couple who experienced hurt, tragedy, and sadness, are thrown together when they investigate a case involving Peyton's estranged cousin Lilia and Lilia's baby daughter Grace. Broken Silence is a fast-paced, second chance, Christian romantic suspense story with a well-written plot and a storyline that will draw you in immediately.

Loved this story. Peyton and Dawson have not seen each other since she broke his heart years earlier but when her estranged cousin phones her in fear, Peyton reaches out to Dawson for help. What follows is a story of mystery, suspense, danger, emotion, second chances, hope. romance and reconnection. The story will keep you enthralled throughout.

Brilliant!

I’m not sure which part of the story I enjoyed more; the action, danger and twists and turns, or the beautiful story of healing and forgiveness that Dawson and Peyton walked through while trying to stay alive and solve the case. It was great to meet Dawson’s amazing family and catch up with old friends. Definitely worth reading!
