If you grew up in an alcoholic home… If you dated guys as evil as your drunken dad… If you never heard a kind word from the people who should love you… Could you change your path?
My name is Nikki Rosso. I am scarred, shy, and I am no one but I am about to start a fight against my past in the hopes of finding myself but if I will ever win is a question not even I dare to ask.
Nathan Mathews has a past. He is talented, tattooed, and every woman’s dream. However, none ever stayed around for long. I will soon learn why.
He is my rock, my only friend, but will he stand by me even as I go against his best friend?
*FROM FRIENDS TO LOVERS ROMANCE, WITH A TOUCH OF ANGST; FAST PACED AND EASILY READ IN A DAY.
Hmm a bit about me.. well I could probably write a whole novella just about myself but I don't think you would want that lol.. might get tedious ;)
BUT.. I am a kinda young woman who is HSP and pretty Introverted which to tell you the truth can be pretty hard at time but I also see it as a blessing because it means I am Multi creative: I sing, Write songs, am writing romance as well as poetry and I actually also draw.. Used to draw portraits and when I began singing it kinda got pushed to the background..
I am a English BA student and in August 2014 I got married to the love of my life.
I am a huge believer in using what talents you were gifted with and in always being yourself.
Hmm what else... well I am a really caring and fun person when you get to know me and I have a wicked perverted sense of humor.
Punctuation overload. Now I like a question mark and exclamation mark as much as the next person but there really is no need to end every sentence with quite so many. Not to mention the inappropriate shouty caps popping up at random moments. There are spelling mistakes, weird spellings (such as 'yea' instead of 'yeah' and 'therefor' instead of 'therefore') missing words, not to mention the fact that the author doesn't seem to know that 'breath' and 'breathe' are two different words. The writing is bad...amateurish, stilted and immature. (One example: "You are wearing too damn much clothes, I think we need to remove it" What sort of English is that?!)
I have no idea what any of the characters look like, how old they are or hardly any clues about their personalities. There's no back story at all except Nikki's previous 'poisonous' relationship that is mentioned several times but never expanded on.
Nothing adds up in this book. If Mike was such a nasty piece of work, why was 'Nathan The Wonderful' best buds with him? I have to say Nathan seems like a bit of an arrogant arsehole with severe anger issues to me. If Nikki is so shy why is she screwing her ex-boyfriends best friend less than 24 hours after the relationships ends? Nikki and Nathan are best friends, have been for ages but she's never realised she's attracted him before. It's completely unbelievable.
It says in the blurb:
'Nathan Mathews had a past, he was talented, he was tattooed and he was every woman's dream but though every woman wanted into his pants none ever stayed around for long. I was soon to learn why..'
However, I have no clue as to what his supposed talents are, no past was ever mentioned and I still have absolutely no idea why the copious amount of women wanting in his pants didn't stick around...
Apart from very badly written sex (with not a single mention of a condom or birth control pills in the entire book) there is nothing between Nikki and Nathan. Nothing bringing them together, nothing in common, no redeeming qualities, no chemistry at all. I have no idea what they saw in each other and this was never explained or explored.
All in all this book is badly thought out, badly written and badly edited.

I was lucky enough to start this journey with Line when she asked me to beta read for her. On a personal note, I think Line, and her family should be immensely proud of her achievements. It is not easy having a busy life and finding time to write, but Line made the time. I am extremely proud of her myself, especially as English is not her native tongue.
Now to the book itself. From the Shadows touches on some difficult themes such as alcohol abuse and abusive relationships. I should imagine it was a difficult theme to write, but Line did it with just the right level of thought and understanding. Nikki was very insecure to the point of wanting to scream at her and hug her at the same time. Of course she was like the way she was because of what she had to put up with all the years she was with Mike. He was a right douchebag who deserved his comeuppance! I loved the way (with Nathan’s gentle nudging) she grew stronger and stood up for herself against the abuse she had virtually suffered all her life. My heart reached out to Nikki, and I so desperately wanted her to have her 'Happily Ever After.'
On another side, I loved Nathan. The scenes with them were hot and touching.:) I can't wait to see how much Nikki grows in book 2!
Well done, Line for an amazing romantic debut novel.
This Book Is Amazing And Its Like Someone Wrote About My Life With My Horrible Ex Partner, It Was Like Therapy For Me And I Loved Every, Sad, Happy And Sex Fueled Part Of This Book. I Was On Tender Hooks And Couldn't Put It Down.
I Recommend That You Buy This 5 Star Read As Soon As Possible Where You Will Find Joy Is Often Found Under Your Nose And That Just Because You Lose Hope, Trust And Love. It Doesn't Mean You Will Never Find It Again.... Line Nørgaard Fallesen Your A Star So Can't Wait For The Next Book
This story really show's you one woman's courage and strength against a bully that is supposed to love her and treat her as a partner. It has been perfectly written on the subject and gets you wanting to keep reading, wishing all goodness for them. Nicki knows only to well it isn't only physical abuse that scars but the mental abuse can be much worse but she finds the courage to leave and want to make a better life for herself. Nathan has been there throughout as a friend and saviour on lots of occasions and gives her a safe place to stay. He shows Nikki just how much she is worth and so much more....... can't wait to find out more.
Overall I did like the book. It was emotional, and I loved the whole fell in love with the best friend part. However, I felt that the book hit the high point too soon, and then just kinda flat-lined from there. There was really nothing to hold my interest.
Almost 4 stars So I think on the whole I would say I enjoyed the book, although I didn’t enjoy all the characters or more to the point, I didn’t enjoy all the characters all of the time. I know I’m not exactly making myself clear but what I am trying to say is that while I could get my head around the story and I thought the fact the author was willing to take on some pretty tough subject matter was to be commended, I found warming to Nikki took a little work. There were occasions where I really wanted to almost comfort her and yet a few pages later I was shaking my head in dismay, I understood why she was the way she was but I wanted her to see that she was her own woman and worth a million times more than Mike could have ever fathomed. She just needed time I got that but her hesitancy and self-doubt while understandable were a little detracting at times and I found myself muttering my way through the text urging support and almost imploring her to find her inner strength. I hated what she had been through and in a way I think that was why I was so impatient with her, she had wasted so much time with Mike, suffering because of his inadequacies that I wanted her to be the star of the show and it wasn’t until Nathan that I actually thought she was going to actually get what she deserved most, a shot at being truly happy. I liked Nathan and the support he gave to Nikki, he was the shoulder she needed, the support that she could rely on as she found herself. The interaction between the two of them was the strength of the story, the way they fed from each other. On a human level this was a strong story about finding your way out of the circle of abuse that until you are willing to fight, will keep even the strongest spirit shackled. Nikki had that fight inside her but had buried it so deep for so long that it too a lot for her to realise that she was worth fighting for.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I found that I was pulled into the story straight away.
Line has a way of writing that will have you empathising with the characters and feeling all their emotions. The story flows beautifully, and is written in a way that you can connect to all the events in the story.
Nikki hasn't had the best start in life and hasn't always made the right choices, she has never been able to grow into the person she is supposed to be. This has also been hindered by the fact she was in a relationship that was abusive and restricting. One day she wakes up and takes a journey on discovering who she truly is.
Nathan is a man that I found to be a fierce protector of those that he loves, a friend to Nikki, he welcomes her with open arms when she needs him. He helps her rediscover who she is truly meant to be. He loves Nikki, and this is shown throughout the story, the way he deals with Nikki's ex is in a way that shows he is the better man.
Line has written about issues many people can relate to, this was done in a beautiful way. It shows that no matter what there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
****A copy was received in exchange for an honest and unbiased review*****
Everyone needs a Nathan This is not my genre. I’m not a romance girl, at all, ask anyone I know. However after seeing some snippets of the author’s works and reading the blurb I was intrigued. This is not a typical romance, it is not all flowers and chocolates and it’s very real. You can certainly feel the raw emotions from the protagonist. Her insecurities and worries of being good enough, wondering if she is doing the right thing and wondering if she actually deserves to find happiness. I think this is something most women and men can relate to, if we’re honest. The big take away from this book for me, was that the protagonist was strong enough to save herself, to realise she deserved happiness and went for it. I’m all for being swept away, but I love a good string, female character and Line F Nielsen hit the nail on the head. I will be very interested in reading this authors work in the future. When’s book 2?
I adored this story, it portrays one woman's courage and strength against a bully of a partner. It shows physical abuse is not the only type of abuse one can suffer at the hands of a partner and psychological abuse can be just as demeaning to someone's spirit. Nicki the heroine in this story knows this only to well. I felt as if the Author had some sort of experience along the lines of this or knows someone whose suffered through it. Not sure if that true, maybe she's just an empathic writer. The story is about Nikki who finds the courage to leave her partner and make a better life for herself. Her long term friend Nathan gives her a place to stay. He's knows exactly what Nicki has been through and has stood in the Shadows to long. It's his mission to show Nikki just how important she is and that she is worth more. Great story and I just loved Nathan and Nikki. Can't wait for more.
♥♥♥♥ Four amazing hearts ♥♥♥♥ Nathan and Nikki I fell in love with from page one. Nathan is hot, protective and has a serious love for Nikki. She is kind, lovable and sweet, although she guards her heart after a bad relationship turns sour. I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I Know the author is from Denmark, and I also know that English is not her first language. Taking that into account, I have to say that I am really impressed with her writing. I read an un-edited ARC. Please give this book a go. It has a bit of everything; love, romance and a little suspense thrown in for good measure. I will defo be reading more from this author. Well done Line, your debut is fabtastic xxxx
I was given an Advance copy in exchange for an honest review. Line's debut novel, is a must read. Having the opportunity to be able to read this book in the making has been amazing.
Line has developed each of the characters, Nathan's and Nicky's relationship towards one another is a will they won't they, heck isn't it about time?
Now don't get me wrong there are the characters you want to scratch the eyes out of *coughs* Mike *coughs*.
From start to finish the story is fluent, captivating and our brilliance. 5 stars well deserved. :-D xxx
I received this ARC and Beta read for this awesome author in exchange for a honest review...
This book touches on some really serious issues. Abusive relationship and finding your way through the darkness. Line captures all your emotions in this debut novel. You can really see what's happening when it's happening while reading this story. That makes for an excellent book.
I loved reading Nikki and Nathan's story. Make sure you read this great book it's a true work of art she has poured her heart and soul into.
What a complete love story! I really enjoyed reading this book so much!!
It was emotional, but such a cute story. Nikki has had a tough past, and after being in a toxic relationship, she finally makes the 1 step in believing in herself and finding her happiness. Nathan is every girls dream, lovable guy. I fell so in love with him.
This book is about believing in yourself and finally finding happiness after so much pain.
I loved reading from the shadows I couldn't put it down and loved every min of it thank you for an amazing story
It was well written and also drags you in to wanna keep reading I only started this yesterday and didn't want to put it down. I love the character there inspiration show that life can change with the right decisions
I was asked to read an arc, From The Shadows and delighted to say this that I love the book. The characters are easy to relate to; Nathan and Nikki are tough warriors fighting their own demon, but the sweetness is there when Nathan breaks Nikki's barrier and that is worth reading. I have sighed occasionally when Nathan either behaves naughty or just be a gentleman to his love. Well done, Line.
I liked this book. I loved how Nathan treated Nikki. I felt bad for both of them at what they went through in their lifetime. No one should have to go through that. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Lynzi Nikki and Nathan both have rocky past and demons they continue to fight on a daily basis, but that doesn't mean they can't have happiness. As best friends they try to find the beauty and light this world has to offer, in each other, but that's a little harder than it seems. They have one major obstacle they have to try and find a way around. Nate is totally swoon worthy!! Like Oh-em-gee!! I absolutely loved loved loved him. Best friend turn lover is AMAZING! He had me smiling from the get go. He stole my heart and I want to keep him for my own. I loved the banter between him and Nikki. The comfort, the ease, was really great. It's sad to say, but oh so true, there are more woman in this world like Nikki, than there should be. She has been lost for so long, she doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know what the light looks like because she has always been surrounded by total darkness. Love is something she has never experienced. She realizes that the situation she is in, can be changed, but only she can change it. When she finally makes that step and takes hold of her life and her future, she starts to see she was stronger than she thought. Nikki has inspired and touched me in so many ways. I loved seeing her grow. She still has some more growing to do though, and I can't wait to read it. ♡♡♡♡
The characters need more background, leading up to the point where this book actually begins. As it is, there's a relationship split and Nikki jumps straight into bed with her ex's friend. This does not warm me to her character at all. But with a little introduction of how they got there, then this would be fine.
I liked the storyline. It could've been a bit more challenging. Nikki goes from 'doormat' to 'treading my own path' overnight.
There is some character development though, and I really like the introduction of Sasha.
A book with lots of promise. Just a little more work and it'd be good.
2.5 stars, rounding up to 3 Hmmmm. As harsh as this sounds, I am pleased I didn't read this book before this relaunch.
For me, it's too flat. There's no ooomph, no emotion, no angst, no highs, no lows. Tension...you should usually cut it with a knife. The tension here...blow it away with a paper fan. Lack lusture plot that started with a quick bang and fizzled like a wet firework. Everything about it is just meh. There's very little character development, hardly any back story, nothing to really get your teeth stuck in to and draw you into a second story.
I am obviously being super nice giving this a 3 star rating. All I can think to say is that if you like a quick, easy, ex's best friend romance read to fill your time between books then this is the one for you.
Cliffhanger, have to wait for part two but I won't be one. Starts with Nik broken up with Mike, ask his best friend to stay with him, then the morning she is in Nathan's arms and bed. Then the store has dark parts and light parts with romance. I actually skimmed through parts since it lost my interest.
