Ein Gefühl wie 1982 nach dem Kinobesuch "Die Weisse Rose" von Michael Verhoeven.
Darum passen für mich auch die Schlussworte vom Nachwort so gut:
"... Sie alle sind keine Helden. Wir auch nicht.
Aber Menschen. Und zumindest das sollten wir nie vergessen."

Klare Empfehlung, bitte unbedingt lesen.

the crush of ideologies and worldviews, the horrible taste of worry, the freedom that's too far away and too close at the same time.

finding out that this book is based on true events and real people was incredible. i cried at the last pages, reading about them, because to know that there were (and are) people who try to go against the propaganda is amazing.

romantization of russia wasn't for me. russia in this book and, through alex's eyes, is shown very ideal like, an island of hope, dreams and rainbows. and we all know that it wasn't the case during ww2 (or now). it's strange to shine light on one country's flaws and to be so forgetful about the other's.
