I hated him the second I met him. Too bad my body didn’t get the memo.
Ruben Posada is everything I swore I’d never fall for—cold, calculating, and infuriatingly gorgeous. As a high-powered lawyer chasing a promotion, he has a plan to bulldoze the theater that holds my childhood memories.
He’s the storm blowing through my life. I’m the inconvenient obstacle standing in his way.
We clash from day one.
Sparks fly… the dangerous kind.
He wants the prestige and the power that another win under his belt would bring. I want to preserve the only place I’ve ever truly called home.
Now, everything’s at stake. The theater. The truth. And something I never meant to give away.
My heart… To the one man I was never supposed to fall for.
Susana Mohel is a USA Today best-selling author whose stories sizzle like the sunshine in her Southern California mountains. Her fast-paced, angsty contemporary romance novels transport readers to a world of spunky heroines and hunky heroes who find their way to a happily ever after… with plenty of spiced-up moments along the way. When she’s not writing, Susana can be found wandering the trails along with her husband or creating chaos in her garden.
This was a busy and intense read with good characters. Some parts fell flat for me while others were enjoyable. There was some unexplained mystery in the beginning that had me intrigued and was answered relatively quickly with a new mystery added. The beginning was too much of one characters side at a time but seemed like it was meant to build suspense.
Chased centers around the tension between a lawyer tasked with purchasing a historic theater and a nurse who is trying to save it.
Although the book had a cute premise and I feel like I enjoyed the theatre aspect especially because there is also a historic theatre being saved where I live. It added conflict but I felt the resolution of said conflict was rushed.
The pacing overall felt clunky and was disjointed but the side characters really made up for it. I adored all of Ruben's family and Lennon's found family. The dynamics between his family and Lennon's friend really showcased the multiple sides of Ruben as grows as a character.
Bonus points for the epilogue because I always love those. Overall, I'd recommend this book if you're into cinnamon roll MMCs.
Thank you to Susana Mohel and Happily Booked PR for this free eARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
Chased had all the makings of a great enemies-to-lovers romance. Full of all the tropes we love: he falls first (and hard), he's a total cinnamon roll for her, there's no third-act breakup, and of course, a happily-ever-after. On paper, it sounds like the perfect feel-good love story. Unfortunately, it just fell a little flat for me.
The story centres around Ruben, a lawyer whose client is attempting to buy out the town's beloved theatre, and Lennon, a PICU nurse determined to save it. The theatre is very personal to her—filled with memories and meaning—and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep it alive, including organising a major charity drive. Unsurprisingly, Ruben—her not so secret admirer—ends up making a generous donation and throughout the story, is working behind the scenes to sabotage the sale - cue romantic, big love declaration. He’s trying to win her over, even if it means going against his own firm.
All the ingredients are there, and yet… something just didn’t click.
By the 43% mark, I seriously considered DNF’ing it. But being the hopeless romantic that I am, I stuck it out. Sadly, the story never found its footing. Everything felt wildly rushed. One moment they’re bickering in the street, the next they’re obsessing over each other like they’ve been secretly in love for years. At one point, Ruben even says, “I’m acting like an addict. A ****** junkie. And yes, I’m here for my next dose.” That pretty much sums it up—intense, fast, and confusing.
While I don’t shy away from steamy romances (the darker the better, honestly), this one gave me the ick, I wouldn’t say it fell into the steamy romance category at all but romance all the same. The chemistry felt more creepy than compelling. The intense lust, the dramatic declarations, the near-constant internal monologues about their need for one another—it felt completely over-the-top and unnatural. Not at all swoon-worthy; perhaps somewhat exhausting.
By the last, I want to say third, of the book, I was skimming more than reading. I found it hard to stay engaged, mostly because of this constant something isn’t right/clicking with this, at the back of my head. Their obsessive infatuation didn’t feel earned. Chapter 3 onwards had me wondering how they got so deeply invested after what felt like one or two brief interactions and I guess that irritation never left and put me off reading the rest. To top it off, nearly every chapter ends with a cliché line or quote that just felt forced and, honestly, grating and unnecessary. It was as if the book was trying a little too hard to convince us of its own romance.
There’s no denying the premise had potential—a heartfelt fight to save something meaningful, paired with a sweet (if slightly misguided) hero and a determined heroine. But the execution just didn’t work for me. What could have been a charming romcom with a satisfying HEA came off instead as rushed, overly saccharine, and a little unsettling.
I do want to thank Happily Booked PR and Susana Mohel for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Chased - all opinions are my own.
Susana Mohel’s Chased delivers a compelling blend of romance and suspense, capturing the essence of an enemies-to-lovers narrative with a touch of intrigue. The story unfolds with a strong, independent heroine and a complex, brooding hero, setting the stage for a passionate and tumultuous relationship.
Mohel’s writing style is engaging, with well-paced storytelling that keeps readers hooked from the first page. The chemistry between the protagonists is palpable, and their journey from animosity to affection is both believable and enthralling. The inclusion of suspense elements adds depth to the plot, making it more than just a typical romance.
While Chased follows familiar tropes, Mohel’s execution brings a fresh perspective to the genre. Fans of contemporary romance with a hint of danger and a lot of heart will find this book a satisfying read.
Overall, Chased is a testament to Susana Mohel’s ability to craft stories that resonate emotionally while delivering the excitement readers crave.
Lennon is a PICU nurse and she’s trying to save a beloved theater. Ruben is an attorney representing the person that is trying to buy the theater. To her, he’s the devil. To him, she’s trouble, in the best of ways. They can’t get each other out of their heads, and soon they begin spending time together. There’s more going on that meets the eye though, and it could ruin Ruben’s career. Are they both willing to risk it?
I’ll be honest, when I first started the book, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. It felt really repetitive, and after a single encounter Ruben was majorly obsessed with Lennon. I didn’t understand it and it just feel kind of icky to me. I’ve met someone and thought about them, sure. But, I didn’t all of a sudden feel like I was addicted to that person. Especially not at the ages that these characters were.
However, things slowed down to a regular pace after that and I really enjoyed the rest of the book. I was slightly afraid that everything was going to feel rushed, but I really liked that Ruben and Lennon took some time to get to know each other. They went on dates, they texted, they talked on the phone. If something interrupted their plans, they went with it. They didn’t rush into bed with each other (though, they did get there!).
Ruben turns out to be a cinnamon roll MMC underneath a tough exterior. He’s a cinnamon roll for Lennon and that’s the best kind. He made the decisions that were good for him and his future with her, and he didn’t think twice about it. I really wound up loving his character.
I received a copy of this book from Happily Booked PR and am voluntarily leaving this review. All opinions are my own.
I hated him the second I met him. Too bad my body didn’t get the memo.
I liked this book; I thought it was super fun and interesting. I loved Ruben; he reminded me of Harvey from Suits. I loved how he still found a way to “win” even if it was not how he originally thought. I also really enjoyed Lennon; I love how strong she is as a character. I really liked how the conflict in this book was solved, and I liked seeing how the characters' relationships developed.
🍿 Lawyer MMC 🎞️PICU Nurse FMC 🎬Enemies-to-lovers 🍿He falls first (and harder) 🎞️No third-act break-up 🎬A splash of suspense 🍿Cinnamon Roll MMC (just for her) 🎞️Multicultural romance 🎬HEA
So I found this book a few weeks ago when I need a bit of a palette cleanse from the dark romance genre. Who doesn’t like a good steamy, he falls first romance with an adorable Cinnamon Roll MMC every now and then? They can be so sweet and cute for their girl. There’s not a third act breakup in this book and it has a HEA.
This follows the story of Ruben, whose a lawyer that has this client that is trying to buy this old movie theater in this town in San Francisco, and Lennon, who is a nurse that is determined to save it. The theatre is very personal to her. It is filled with memories that she holds so dear to her, and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep it alive, including organising a major charity drive. Big surprise, Ruben shows up and makes a very generous donation. Throughout the book he is working behind the scenes to sabotage the sale, make this big romantic love declaration and win her over! Whatever the cost may be to his current life and career!
The tropes the storyline it all sounded so perfect and I couldn’t wait to read this book. It was an ok book but I did feel like maybe it had potential to be so much more. Some parts felt rushed and like there maybe wasn’t as much buildup to their love story or relationship as there could have been. I did love the banter and sparkiness of Lennon and the fight she would give back to Ruben. There were some twists and turns in the book that you weren’t expecting that would make you surprised. I just was having a hard time really being able to get truly lost in this book and get into this book. I think the storyline of the book had so much potential and promise to be so great, but I loved Ruben and Lennon’s happy ever after.
Mmmhmmmm Ruben is a smooth and confident lawyer, and utterly delicious. His first meeting with gorgeous red head nurse Lennon had sparks flying. An enemies to lovers story with so much heat. Despite seeing him as the enemy, there is an instant attraction and it really didn't take much convincing to get a dinner date from her. A quick read takes you through the story of Ruben softening his hard edges and Lennon discovering a family found. A great love story, when you know, you know!
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own
Ruben, me tienes enamorada. Oh Ruben you have me all in love here. When he calls her "Chispita" melting for sure. I absolutely loved this story so so much I couldn't get enough. From the very beginning, I knew I was going to be obsessed with these two. Lennon you were definitely in for a rollercoaster from day one and didn't even know it. I am so glad Ruben and Lennon got to meet because it's a match made in the theatre. 🤫
Thank you to the author and Happily Booked PR for the eARC.
From the start, I really enjoyed the storyline and the chemistry between our two main characters. Ruben is a hotshot lawyer and Lennon is a spunky nurse looking to save one of the few memories she still has of her godmother.
Watching Ruben’s character evolve and have a change of heart was probably my favorite part. That, and the connection we find they share at the end relates to their moms 🥹
Chased delivers a sizzling enemies-to-lovers story packed with tension, sharp banter, and a deliciously slow-burning romance. The emotional back-and-forth between the characters is raw, intense, and completely convincing. Every cutting remark, lingering look, and attempt to resist their growing feelings pulls you deeper into their complicated connection. If you love romance with tension, heart, and heat. This is for you. What a nice read!
Lennon is a nurse who is trying to save an old theatre, Ruben is a lawyer trying to get the theatre owners to sell. An enemies to lovers story but with a few twists along the way. Ruben has a large family network who are all supportive of him where Lennon has her friends. I loved the instant attract element from Ruben with the whole ‘mine’ vibe going on. What was really nice was the extra bonus epilogue although oh my gosh, heart retching.
Not very detailed with the spicy scenes but the book was very good 👍🏻 Rubens and Lennons attraction was instant and fast paced. I loved 💕 how sure Ruben was that Lennon was it for him, how dedicated, caring, attentive & protective of her too. And Lennon is strong and feisty, his firecracker 🧨, but can lean on someone when things get too hard. I enjoyed the writing and plot. 💕 ❤️
Chased is an enemies to lovers, he falls first and harder, romantic suspense following Lennon and Ruben.
I absolutely loved Lennon. She has no issue saying how she feels and going after what she wants. If anyone tries to make her feel less than, she will put them in their place and walk away without a single glance backward. She’s also incredibly loving, and I loved that she has a circle of people she can show that side to without judgment, and that circle extends to Ruben. She challenges him, but she also gives him space to be vulnerable, and I loved how their dynamic played out.
I loved Ruben. He knows what he wants, and he wants Lennon. But he also knows when to push and when to give her space; when she needs a more dominant side of his personality and when she needs him to be soft with her. There’s this beautiful push and pull with their personalities that I think mirrored a real life relationship beautifully well, and I think many other readers will see that too. I loved that he gives just as much as she does, and I can’t wait for everyone to meet him.
Thank you so much to @susanamohel and @happilybookedpr for this amazing arc!
This was such a quick read for me. The pages practically kept turning themselves. I loved the storyline. Watching Ruben fight for the things that mattered most to him, while not compromising on his beliefs, was so refreshing. Pick this one up, and watch the relationship blossom!
cute little enemies to lovers story ... Ruben is the picture of cinnamon roll MMC AND I AM HERE FOR IT ... everyone needs a Ruben in their life !!! Love Lennon the FMC too ... some spicy scenes and a quick easy read
Man, I so wanted to love this book. He falls first and hard. A HEA without the breakup at the end. And, of course the all coveted enemies to lovers. And then. Meh. The incessant inner thought process of these two was a bit much. It felt more like a stalker trope than an enemies to lovers. One minute, they just met, and then the next, they have feelings that they've had their whole lives. I was just confused.
Chased by Susana Mohel is a short and sweet dual POV romance. Our FMC, Lennon, works as a nurse but moonlights as a theater volunteer. She is trying to save the theater she grew up in from being demolished. Ruben, our MMC, is the lawyer behind the pending sale of her beloved theater. Even from across the street, Ruben and Lennon have instant chemistry. Lennon hates him immediately, but can’t get him out of her head. Ruben is impressed by her willingness to fight for the theater. As Ruben learns more about the theater and its importance to Lennon, he experiences a change of heart. Can Lennon trust that it’s real?
This book is on the shorter side, but the story is engaging and the characters are interesting. The author has a way of making the characters feel genuine and relatable. Ruben is a typical Golden Retriever Hero type. Lennon is a confident, secure woman, but she’s just been through a divorce. The relationship grows slowly, but it’s very sweet and romantic with a HEA! Thank you to the author and Happily Booked PR for the arc copy. All views are my own.
This book was so good!!!! Had me tense and in the feels the entire time. This plot was really good, Ruben is working for the company trying to take a theater that Lennon grew up with and loves. It’s the perfect enemies to lovers, so tense and lots of banter. From first sight, Ruben is captivated by her and though he denied it at first, it doesn’t take long for him to realise his attraction and chase after Lennon. Lennon is determined not to fall for him but some things can’t be stopped… Ruben’s dedication to her is insane, he’s literally the definition of i would do anything for you. On the outside he’s a cold lawyer but for her he is the sweetest. He’s a communication king, if there’s any problem between them he talks her through it. He's also really determined (because he always gets what he wants) and possessive. And I love how she doesn’t like change him, just helps him see the errors of what he’s doing. Lennon is a firecracker character just like her nickname but she’s a sweetheart with a sad past. That plot twist near the end did her really dirty, in a sad way. This couple has that enemies to lovers tension and chemistry that develops into this beautiful bond. It’s not as dark as what I usually read and it’s a nice short read, but I loved it and give it a 5/5
Book review time 📚 Publisher : happily booked pr Author : @susanamohel Rating : 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 “But when something is precious, you don’t throw stones at it." Ruben and Lennon were everything! Ruben: a lawyer just doing his job to get senior partnership but Lennon a nurse and dedicated to saving the towns theater that has purpose & history. These two challenge one another and I love it ! But something about Lennon strikes Lennon & it complicates things the setting was amazing the spice was perfect and their chemistry chefs kiss 💋 !
This book had me hooked from the very beginning and I found myself unable to put it down until the very end. The chemistry between Ruben and Lennon is undeniable from the very beginning. This love story had plenty of heat as well and made for a quick read. I can't recommend this book enough!
OMG this was another great book. The book cover caught my attention and he was eye candy. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was so intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down. Ruben was a smooth but confident of an lawyer and Lennon was an attraction for her in this moment. It was a love story of passion and fighting temptation any longer at this time. One night with him will change her life forever in a way. I highly recommend this book and you won't be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book from Happily PR via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. Trina Jones
Lord, this book really had a twist I didn’t even see coming!! I truly loved this book and enjoyed reading it! Susana Mohel truly has a way of writing her romance novels and I truly loved how descriptive she was in Lennon and Ruben’s point of views. The way Ruben longed for Lennon, couldn’t describe it at first why he was so enamored, so addicted to her without even kissing her. He just knew that she was different. Felt it in his soul whenever he saw her or felt her presence 😍
The same can be said for Lennon as well. She’s a nurse who is trying to save the theater she has known her whole life. And has consistently shown up to fundraisers funds for the theater and not let Ruben and his team take it away from their community. When she first meets Ruben, she can’t deserve the feeling that she has when she sees him. Yes, she hates him bc he is a lawyer trying to negotiate a deal with the Olsons’s to sell the theater to his boss. At the same time, she also starts to feel this feeling she can’t quite comprehend and tries to distract herself from Ruben.
This was such a wonderfully written romance between two people who have to overcome their issues and demons in order to be happy. They both demonstrate growth in their character arcs and Susana did a fantastic job demonstrating it with her magical writing skills!!
What an amazing book! I didn’t want to put it down! Who would have thought he would fall first for the girl! That’s what happens the minute Ruben meets firecracker Lennon. He’s a lawyer going for a promotion. In order to do so, he has to get the owners of the theater to sell. Lennon is a pediatric ICU nurse trying to keep the theater, which holds so many memories for a lot of people, open. She’s definitely not impressed with Ruben when she first meets him. Could that all change? What would a fundraiser do to maybe change Ruben’s mind about keeping the theater open?
This book brought about a huge secret. Let’s put it this way, it involves Ruben’s boss. Wait til you find out what secret that can be! It will blow your mind. As the story goes on, Ruben and Lennon strike up quite the friendship despite everything going on. Their chemistry really grows and as they spend time together, maybe just maybe Lennon starts to feel something for Ruben. In the end, what will happen to the theater, and will Ruben trying his hardest to win the girl, get the girl? I’ll put it this way, the ending had me all warm and fuzzy inside.
