Once the hammer comes down, there’s no getting out…20 years ago, Imani’s best friend Kaitlin vanished.
Now, Kaitlin’s crumbling childhood home is up for auction.
Buying this house is Imani’s chance to finally resolve her grief. It might even ease her guilty conscience surrounding Kaitlin’s disappearance.
But fixer-uppers always come with nasty surprises.
And as Imani throws herself into the renovations, she discovers secrets that make her question all her memories of Kaitlin, and of the night she never came home.
Could restoring no.6 Church Street really help Imani uncover the truth? Or will winning the auction prove to be a dangerous – even deadly – mistake?
Going, Going, Gone is one of those thrillers that quietly tightens its grip as you read. Nasheema Lennon takes a simple, haunting premise—returning to the childhood home of a missing friend—and turns it into a layered, unsettling exploration of memory, guilt, and the secrets we bury to survive.
Imani is a wonderfully nuanced protagonist. Her decision to buy Kaitlin’s old house feels both impulsive and deeply human, driven by grief that never settled and questions that never stopped echoing. The house itself is a brilliant setting: crumbling, claustrophobic, and full of the kind of small, eerie details that make you second‑guess every assumption.
As Imani throws herself into the renovations, the story becomes a clever blend of psychological suspense and emotional unravelling. Lennon handles the slow reveal of long‑buried truths with real finesse, letting doubt creep in around the edges until you’re no longer sure what Imani remembers—or what she’s been trying not to remember.
The pacing is spot‑on: steady enough to build atmosphere, sharp enough to keep you turning the pages. And the central mystery—what really happened the night Kaitlin disappeared—lands with the right mix of heartbreak and dread.
A gripping, elegantly written thriller about friendship, memory, and the danger of digging too deeply into the past. I couldn’t look away.

thank you to the author and publisher for the early copy <3
My GOD this book was insanely good!! Once in a while I love a good thriller/mystery to cleanse my palette from all the fantasy I read and this one had me HOOKED. From the first few pages I was just completely absorbed in this book.
I really loved how the author wrote the main character; she was suspicious, but determined, and it was just a perfect balance of someone you’d expect in her situations. She felt very relatable and not naive or whiney like some others in thriller books. I felt that everything she did was probably what I, a real life girl (barely lol), would also do in her situation. The plot twists were great and really kept me on my toes. I was so immersed in this book and I’m sure I’ll be thinking about this book for the next month at least. I hugely appreciate that all loose ends were tied and all questions were answered cause I *hate* when things aren’t addressed but this was PERFECT. It’s haunting and thrilling; perfect for fans of Frieda McFadden! If you’re looking for a book that will keep you up at night, or one that will make you doubt the intentions of every single person in your life, this is IT. This book is addicting and full of plot twists!
(Also Nathan when I catch you IT IS ON SIGHT!!! 💥 🥊)
Twenty years ago Imani’s best friend Kaitlin vanished. Now Kaitlin’s childhood home is up for auction and Imani knows she needs to win this in order to finally ease her guilt. As she throws herself into the renovations, she discovers secrets that makes her question everything she knew about Kaitlin. Will she finally discover the truth of what happened that night?
This sounded like an intriguing, mysterious thriller and the bold cover caught my eye, so I wanted to read. I liked the concept of the auction and setting of the old house. I enjoy books that make the house feel like its own character and the author did this well, bringing it to light with the details, while creating a creepy atmosphere. There were some interesting characters, as well as some hugely unlikeable ones, and Imani felt like a strong protagonist.
The pacing was fairly steady, however I found it dipped very slightly in the middle, but soon picked back up. The author explored sensitive subjects well, adding a layer of emotion on top of the mystery element. There were red herrings that kept me guessing and turning the pages to find out the conclusion. This was a solid thriller overall and although this was my first book by this author, after finishing I can say it won’t be my last. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.
Imani is a wife and mother with a traumatic past… twenty years prior her friend Kaitlyn went missing. Imani now has the chance to buy Kaitlyn’s old childhood home at auction; will it bring her any closer to finding out what happened to her best friend.
I was gifted an early copy of this book from the fabulous Nasheema and to say I devoured it is an understatement. It’s the quickest I’ve read a book in a long time. I didn’t want to put it down; I was too interested in finding out what happened next.
When reading a thriller; I like to have the undercurrent of feeling excited and nervous of what’s going to come next (obviously I won’t say as I don’t want it spoil it)… but this book had it in bucket loads. It has plenty of twists and turns that keep you guessing. I’d highly recommend.
What would lengths would you go to in order to find a loved one who is missing from your life.
I received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I found the premise of this one interesting, but also quite a slow burn. To me the eventual climactic reveal felt overly complicated, as if the original suspect wasn't enough to make the story work, but your mileage may vary on that one. Once I got through the first third or so I found the action much more worthwhile, and the eventual conclusion and epilogue more than satisfactory. I had some suspicions throughout the book but they were all set aside due to further plot developments, which perhaps isn't the best kind of mystery/thriller for me, personally. I don't mind a good red herring, but there were so many in this book it began to feel a little bit like a smokery. Fine if you like that sort of thing, but not entirely my cup of tea.
Twenty years ago, Imani’s best friend Kaitlin disappeared. Now, Kaitlin’s dilapidated childhood home is up for auction, and Imani wants to buy it, fix it up, and search for clues about the night her friend vanished. That night, Imani was attacked and left for dead, yet Kaitlin's father still blames her. Her bid is accepted, but no tradesmen will take the job—only an old school friend and Kaitlin’s brother step in to help. However, someone doesn’t want her asking questions and will do whatever it takes to stop her. It’s so good, highly recommend!
Imani has just bought a crumbling house. The issue is that it was the home of her best friend Kaitlin, who vanished 20 years ago. However in the process of renovations, secrets are discovered that leads Imani to question all that she remembered about her friend's disappearance. This was quite an intriguing thriller. It came with a creepy atmosphere and good pacing that built the tension throughout. Overall an exciting and cleaver read.
I really wanted to like this book, I had high hopes because the description sounded thrilling. But it was a chore to read and I found myself skimming large sections due to how slow and amateur it was. The writing is very immature and a host of new characters arrived over halfway through the book that confused and annoyed me. I lost interest as I could no longer remain invested.
