Irina and her renegade variant friends are scrambling to pick up the trail of their former employer, Ivan, and his globally catastrophic scheme. After strategically sharing their story with the media, the group heads south from Vancouver to Seattle, hoping to recruit more experienced - and lethal - variants to their cause.

Their attention develops a laser focus on an engineered disaster mere days ahead of them. Ivan is using what staff and resources remain of Innoviro Industries to set off a violent earthquake in San Francisco. While they fight to stop the earthquake, Irina pushes the love of her life Jonah as far away as she can, trying to keep his unstable genetic degradation in check.

Irina's friends think they've seen the worst that Innoviro could bring forth by the time they reach a secret facility in the Mojave Desert. As they near the property, the group uncovers a horror none of them had ever imagined.

As Irina and her friends discover more about their own and others’ powers they also discover that Ivan, their arch enemy, is planning triggering a massive earthquake in San Fransisco. As the renegades link up with other variants, they need to be wary as not everyone is being honest. There’s danger from double crossing people who are pretending to help them as well as from Ivan and his team. It is a race against time as the team strive to thwart the Innoviro organisation and their plans. There are many interwoven threads running through the story, with each scene brought to life in the reader’s imagination by the author’s brilliant portrayal, making it feel like you’re actually there, a witness to the events and interactions.

This fast paced, enthralling series covers so many genres! It includes aspects of science fiction, paranormal, suspense, thriller and romance in a real page turner which continues from where the first novel in the series, In Irina’s Cards, finished. This is an action packed sequel that I thoroughly enjoyed and a great addition to the series. I highly recommend reading this series in the correct sequence as each book builds on events from the previous one and the ending to this left me keen to read the sequel as soon as possible!

I was gifted a copy of this book by the author, in exchange for an honest review.

Although described as romantic/suspense I woud recommend this book to readers who enjoy paranormal/suspense. I'd also recommend reading the first book in the series, In Irina's Cards, first to fully understand the relationships between the characters.
In this installment a group of young ex-employees of Innoviro horrified by the companies true intentions band together to try to stop the plan to create natural disasters only varients will survive.
A well-written, imaginative read and the author does well to make each of the many characters distinctive. Using their paranormal abilities the group track the company's bosses across Canada but always seem to be one step behind, partly due to their betrayal by members of their group.
A fast paced read, it ends with their pursuit taking them to London. So although an enjoyable read in it's own right the book is very much part of a series.

This review is based on an ARC provided by the author and /or publisher via Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest opinion.

This book is edited ALOT better than the first in this series. Everything else seems pretty consistent with the first story.

Another great installment in Christine Hart's New Adult Sci-Fi series.

I was particularly happy that everything was taken up another notch in this novel, Christine Hart wasn't messing around when she wrote this.

At the beginning we are are inundated with information to get us caught up, but being that it was a continuation of a series, I didn't feel the amount of detail used was necessary, a refresher is always nice, but I don't want to feel like I'm entering the world for the first time again.

Overall a great addition to the Sci-Fi series world. I look forward to seeing where she takes the characters next.

Irina and the rest of the variants have slowed Ivan’s plan for the world. They travel to Seattle and share with the media what he has been planning. They learn that he is hoping to set off an earthquake in San Francisco and try to stop him. But as they follow him into the Mojave Desert they learn that there is so much more to his plan for the world and they may not be able to stop him.

I thought the first book was good. I love where The Compendium went. Irina and the group try to get information about Ivan out to the media. They learn of Ivan planning an earthquake and rush to stop him. But not everyone in Irina’s group are entirely on her side so it seems they keep falling short.

I loved the twist when they got to the Mojave Desert facility. If you think Ivan was crazy before, you have no idea. What a way to end this book!! This is a great series and one that I recommend reading in order. You could read The Compendium on its own but you get more of a feeling when you read them in order. I hope Irina and the group can save the world.

I received The Compendium from Reading Addiction Virtual Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

This is the second book in the series and book one In Irina's Cards needs to be read first.

Irina Proffer and her variant friends are on the run from her father, Ivan Krylov and his company Innoviro. As her and her brother Ilya begin to piece together what her father is working on they begin a journey from Vancouver to Seattle in order to see what he is working on next.

When it is clear that her father is planning on setting off an earthquake in San Francisco the group must work together to stop it. Yet it seems like her father's henchmen are always one step ahead and could somebody they trust be working against them?

I enjoyed this book and it was interesting to see how the group worked together to get out of situations, relying on each of their strengths with their variants.

Irina pushes Jonah away as she is worried that her strength decreases that of Jonah and the two must figure out a way for Jonah to remain safe. The group definitely has a lot of battles still ahead of them.

It's super interesting to see how the author adapts the variants and the ideas that she comes up with for Ivan. They are different and it'll be great to see how everything goes down in the next book!

I was expecting more of a sci-fi action thriller from reading the blurb, which I might well have enjoyed more. But the writing is solid and this tale has other allures. It’s set up more like a mystery with our group of super-powered sleuths out to rendezvous with a mad man (also super-powered) who must be stopped to save the world from manmade disasters meant to wipe out all but the enhanced humans. If only they can find him. That’s where the heroine comes in. She was a compelling character and her psychic abilities power the story and move the investigation/chase along.

Another reviewer recommended reading book one first, as this book two is part of a larger story arc that started in book 1 and possible culminates in book 3, assuming the series doesn’t go on from there. I’d have to say that’s good advice, but for the most part, I was able to get swept up in the story anyway.

The travel through exotic lands lends a travel-lit dimension to the story, which I always appreciate. More could probably have been made with this component of the story, still, on-location elements can’t help but sneak in.

Another great installment in Chrisinte Hart’s New Adult Sci-Fi series.

Everything from the Action/Drama/Romance was heightened and built upon from the first, Hart wasn’t messing around when she wrote this.

At the beginning we are are inundated with information to get us caught up, but being that it was a continuation, I didn’t feel the amount of detail used was necessary, a refresher is always nice, but I don’t want to feel like I’m entering the world for the first time again. You definitely can not jump into this without having read the first, but if you haven’t read it in a while, it will serve as a great catch-up.

Overall a great addition to the New Adult Sci-Fi series world. I look forward to seeing where she takes the characters next.

I liked the diversity of the novel. It pulls together Paranormal/Sci-Fi along with Mystery/Suspense and romance, all of which are executed well and come together seamlessly.

Since this is a second in a series, it didn't take long for the action to begin and the story to unfold. We get a little bit of a catch up, but then we dive directly into the action.

I really enjoyed the fact that Christine Hart was able to surprise me a couple of times. I always like a novel that keeps me guessing.

I wasn't always on board with all of these characters, Irina specifically made me question here decisions and actions several times throughout, but it kept me guessing, that's for sure.

The Compendium starts back up right where the previous story ended. There was no weird segue into where are we what is going on now. It is a heart pounding race against the total destruction of San Francisco with twists and turns and oh no moments that you hope none of the main characters to the story fall to harm. Each scene is detailed and important to the story. As with the first novel you get sucked in straight away and it is a fast paced ride from start to finish. I can not wait for the conclusion to this story.

Do you like a little more suspense and mystery to go with your new adult drama? This series is definitely for you. You are jumping into a series, so fair warning.

This story is well thought out and flows nicely. There is plenty of mystery and twists that will keep the reader guessing. You will find yourself struggling to put together all of the pieces right along with Irina.

I love Jonah and I was quite perturbed with Irina for parts of this novel.

A great continuation in the series. It elevates the first without being repetitive. New issues, but the same lovable characters.

Buckle up and get ready for even more from this novel. Christine Hart really takes multiple aspects to the next level in this installment. There was quite a bit more drama and emotion in my opinion with this one. The characters are faced with pretty tough decisions, Irina most of all. I’d say that the climax and suspense in this one was really well done. I was quite surprised and found myself shocked right along with the characters. There is something to be said about an author who can continue to pull those kind of reactions in their reader.

First of all, I think that the story itself was imaginative and the author did a great job of giving something new to the series in this installment.

The characters are well developed and engaging. There are ups and downs for their relationship and you will most likely find yourself wondering what they are thinking some of the time.

My only complaint would be that the story didn't have a big enough climax like the first one.

I do, however think the genre was executed well.

Overall, I loved this book and it makes me want to get the first one and the remaining books in the series when I can. If you enjoy series like X-Men and things like that as comics, give this author’s Variant series a shot. Reviewed by Michael
