Billy Blackwell carries a darkness no other man dares hold, a shadow that scorched his soul from the moment he first drew breath.
And it’s this very darkness that calls to her.
Penelope Hart is the antithesis of his chaos. Soft, serene, innocent. Yet, beneath her calm exterior, she shares the same pull towards the gloom.
Unafraid of the unknown, tempted by the eerie allure of things others shy away from. But there’s still one thing that terrifies her—him.
Nightmares pale in comparison to the world Billy drags her into, a world of death, rituals, blood and bone.
A world where sacrifice binds her to him.
Until death.

ARC Review: Please be advised this is a very DARK ROMANCE in which the author advises before you read. So please do not give her a bad review due to content because you knew what to expect before continuing. You should read book 1 Haunt before reading Lovesick, this is a continuation of Billy and Penelope’s love story. This story had my heart pounding at so many different levels from heartache, anger, worry, calmness and then finally to a sort of happiness. These two character’s are fighting for their sick love, happiness and strength while living within the confines of the laws and rules of the Obsidian Family(AKA Cult). I absolutely love how talented this author is at pulling me into each of the character’s thoughts and feelings. I literally feel like I’m walking with these character’s throughout the entire story. There’s never a dull moment and never a point when the story is predictable. This does have an HEA for Billy and Penelope. Totally worth the read!
A world where sacrifice binds her to him. Until death.
I am no stranger to K.L Taylor-Lanes books. So i knew going in to arc read this, that I would expect a gothic dark romance. Her style of writing is out of this world. The definition of love in this book isn't just "I'll burn the world for you."
Billy & Penelopes' story continues on after "Haunt" where their love and devotion is tested to it's limits. Sacrifices are made. You can't leave The Obsidian, on through death.
Haunt is book 1 to Lovesick and must be read first to understand the story. there are sensitive topics which i strongly advise to read the triggers.
🩸Dark Gothic Romance 🩸Cult 🩸Human Sacrifices 🩸CNC 🩸Object play 🩸Violence 🩸💀 🩸Obsessive behaviour from both MMC&FMC 🩸Torture 🩸Gore
Billy's and Penelopes love story has come to an end. It wasn't without its troubles, but these two are gone for each other in the worst possible way. They're toxic and yet they work perfectly. The Obsidian tried to tear them apart, to put distrust in each other, but above all they trust in each other. This is dark and twisted with so much spice it'll make you blush. It's hot and I cant wait for the other brothers stories.
K is an absolute genius at writing dark romances! The continuation of Billy and Penelope’s story is absolutely wild. These two are insane together in the best and darkest ways but are truly soulmates at their core. Read the trigger warnings and make sure to read Haunt in order to appreciate this dark masterpiece!
Lovesick by KL Taylor-Lane is a haunting continuation from Haunt, of Billy and Penelope's love story, it delves even deeper into the dark, obsessive connection between them and the complexities of love. This is not a romance for the faint of heart. Rather, it’s a tale of love that is as consuming as it is destructive, set against a backdrop of gothic, cult-like rituals and brutal trials.
Penelope and Billy have a love that is so intense that it borders on destructive. It isn't gentle, but raw and gritty. It feels like their love is a living, breathing thing, an uncontrollable force that shapes their actions. The devotion they have to each other is palpable and their love is essentially at the core of the story.
Billy, a member of the mysterious Obsidian, chooses Penelope as his Pair, drawing her into a world she can barely understand. In order for them to be together, they must face a series of challenges, each more brutal than the last, testing their true devotion to one another. While Penelope matches Billy in cunning and deviousness, her vulnerability and innocence add a compelling layer to their dynamic.
KL’s writing is both addictive and atmospheric, and masterfully captures the gothic tone and the cultish undertones that give the story its depth. The narrative is laced with tension, and explores the messy, gritty side of love. Watching them fight for each other through every ordeal is both harrowing and satisfying.
A surprising twist at the end keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the lingering threat of Milus suggests that the danger is far from over. The story concludes with a sense of uneasy resolution, leaving readers eager for more. I am looking forward to Bram's story next.
Overall, Lovesick is a beautifully dark and haunting read, perfect for those who crave a love story that is anything but conventional. If you’re drawn to tales where love is as dangerous as it is passionate, this book will not disappoint. The themes and symbolism also offers the read a lot to think about.
Lovesick: Raven Ridge Hallow #2 by K.L. Taylor-Lane
Need to read book one Haunt in this series before starting Lovesick this continues and concludes Billy Blackwell and Penelope Hart story. This is very dark with a whole list of warning. Dark gothic cult horror romance. It’s not a sweet romance but it is theirs.
So many things Penelope didn’t understand when she goes back with Billy. From the rituals that she knows nothing about to finalize their union. The secrets that live in the manor that have affected her whole life and has her making choices to keep herself and the baby safe. She is defiant, I fell a little underestimated and just as blood thirty when she needs to be. Billy was so many things. Completely devoted to her in his own crazy way. Determined to be££d her and get a child that will bind them tighter.
The second half of their story was well worth the wait. There are sections that was nailing biting it could really go either way but K.L. Didn’t let me down but she took me through it to get to their ending. I am looking forward to the next brother.
I’ve missed K’s writing so much, every word makes you slow down and savour it and the emotion behind it. Haunt introduced us to Billy and Penelope, Lovesick gives us their story. Penelope felt so much more breakable here, Billy more constrained, tied tightly into religion that is his family, with little backup from his brothers. Gore out of all of his brothers seemed to be best, though even his hands were tied and his ‘paired’ Dolly, omg, did he know? Another story I need to read. Billy failed on so many occasions to protect Penelope, but when he took vengeance, it was glorious. I was thrilled to find out how these Blackwells were related to those at Heron Mill. I absolutely loved this, even though it was never an easy read, but then, the best reads are never easy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️
K.L Taylor-Lane writes love in the most beautiful way, it may not be conventional, it may be messed up, but it is all consuming, beautiful and devastating.
Lovesick is now one of my all time favourite reads. The emotion in this story, the way the words written so beautifully, so poetically, I could not put this down unit I had devoured every word.
Lovesick is the finale of Billy and Penelope’s story, so Haunt must be read before starting this incredible story.
Dark gothic horror romance. No notes, amazing, incredible. Now go and read it. I am blown away.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Billy and Penelope's novella but this was everything. I loved the twists, the chemistry between them both, the graphic darkness, the side characters, and the growth in Billy and Penelope. This book was hot as fudge! If you love dark romance, then you need to read this asap. Absolutely brilliant, the writing is incredible. This book for me hot, and yet it took me on an emotional rollercoaster, I laughed, I cried and smile within pages. The twists bl€w my mind.
Loved every second of it. I'm really hoping for his brothers stories (I need more of Bram and Gore)
Its been a while between the first part of this story, but Billy and Penelope live on in my brain rent free - so it was easy to jump back in. Read those trigger warnings because this is an intense read and there are many disturbing things within! This is not a beautifully romantic love story, it is a literal gothic horror story of a romance, filled with co dependent obsession, a lot of unaliving, but also an incredibly fascinating story that you dont want to put down. The steam level is high. The bad guy is well, a huge problem and one that isnt going away in a couple of books. I cant wait to read the other brother's stories.
This book was so worth the wait. It is dark and twisted. I can say I've read quite a few dark books and this one gets pretty twisted. The love between Billy and Penelope kind of gives me Harley Quinn and Joker vibes because the things they do are kind of insane especially when they are angry with each other. I absolutely love it. Everything is very intense and you can never really predict what will happen next. I can't wait for the next book to come out so I can get to know Bram and more about The Obsidian.
Billy and Penelope’s ending was worth the wait. This is the follow up book to Haunt which was first put out in 2023. Lovesick is not a standalone book and you will not understand it unless you read Haunt first. This book is a dark Gothic romance. Be sure to read the trigger warnings. Penelope wants nothing more than to be with Billy, but there are forces at work that she doesn’t understand. This book does have an HEA.
Wow !! I’m such a fan of K.L Taylor-Lane’s work this is just what I needed! Dark gothic romance but it’s book 2 and you must read book 1 Haunt first as this is a continuation!! Cult with rituals and graphic scenes, my mind is a whirl and I couldn’t predict a thing in this story. Be sure to check this out !
My gods I love the twisted, gothic, toxic whirlwind that is the Blackwells. Penelope is the perfect amount of clueless but she gets on with it. I love this book and will definitely be buying for myself. (I RECEIVED IT AS AN ARC. IM LEAVING 5 STARS ON MY OWN)
So this was aaaaamazing. Perfect follow up to Haunt. It was beautifully written (of course)! It was dark, depraved, sexy, romantic.. it was everything. If it isn’t a Billy and Penelope kind of love.. I don’t want it!!
I love you more than any soul has ever loved another 🖤😭
This book had me on the edge of my seat and on a bit of an emotional roller-coaster! We get suspense, drama, emotions, spice, and much more! Penelope and Billy had one hell of a rough journey. There was darkness, twists, and secrets. Thankfully, in the end they get their happy ending!
Readers who enjoy pure chaos and gore for gore’s sake will enjoy this.
However I have a few points, writing leans so hard into metaphor and shock value that it loses tension and emotional impact.
Penelope breathing Billy’s name every third sentence made me grind my molars. Lines like “I held her femur”.. just say you’re holding her leg - medically just didn’t sit with me.
Don’t get me wrong I love pitch black romances and have read plenty of them. This is just my observation.
