I had the privilege of receiving an advance reader’s copy of The Celtic Wheel of the Year: Ancient Wisdom for Living in Harmony with the Land by Rhonda McCrimmon, graciously provided by the author and Hierophant Publishing. From the very first pages, this book felt less like something to be read and more like a journey to be experienced.

McCrimmon guides the reader around the Wheel in a way that mirrors its sacred rhythm—not only through the thoughtful layout of the book, but through her evocative storytelling. Each section is aligned with a cardinal direction and is rich with ancient wisdom, traditions, and symbolism rooted in Celtic understanding. She explores the attributes, colors, and animals associated with each direction and thoughtfully illustrates how these energies may influence or appear in our personal lives. Throughout the book, McCrimmon offers meaningful practices within each chapter, inviting the reader into self-work, reflection, and healing. These practices feel accessible and grounded, making the teachings easy to integrate into everyday life. Interwoven personal stories add depth and clarity, expanding the meaning of each section and deepening the reader’s understanding of the Wheel as a living, breathing path.

The Celtic Wheel of the Year is a beautiful blend of ancient tradition and modern practice. It presents the Wheel not simply as a seasonal framework, but as a life path—one that can be walked daily and gently woven into lived experience. One passage from the South in particular resonated deeply with me, where McCrimmon reflects on the inner voice: “Listening deeply to yourself involves recognizing your own needs and honoring them without judgement” (McCrimmon, 2026, p. 144). This message arrived at exactly the right moment for me, reinforcing the timeless relevance of the wisdom shared throughout the book. I am very much looking forward to owning a physical copy and continuing to walk the path of the Wheel with this book as a trusted companion.

The Celtic Wheel of the Year is a must read for anyone looking to reconnect with nature, live in balance with the seasons, and embrace a more wholistic, cyclical way of life.

In her second book, Rhonda encourages us to recognize and honour ancient wisdom and ancestral traditions, while embracing more modern ways of celebrating the seasons and natural world around us. Each chapter provides thought provoking lessons together with accessible and grounded recommendations for creating simple and yet meaningful practices and rituals that encourage intentional living, reflection and growth.

The book feels personal, as Rhonda has a remarkable way of connecting and engaging with her readers. At times, I couldn’t help but feel as though I was there, alongside her in an ancient souterrain hidden in the east of Scotland, learning from the land and my ancestors.

I was honoured and thrilled to receive an advance copy of The Celtic Wheel of the Year to read, and cannot wait until my hard copy arrives later today! As it is with Rhonda’s first book, The Cauldron & The Drum, I will return to her lessons on the Celtic Wheel of the Year again and again throughout the years ✨

Like learning from a trusted friend

Rhonda has put a lot of research and practical knowledge into The Celtic Wheel of the Year and it shows in her writing. Reading this book was like sitting down with Rhonda and a comforting cup of tea.

Here one can develop a deeper understanding of the energies to be found in each of the directions as well as practical exercises to help foster personal growth.

While Rhonda imparts a lot of information, this book never reads like a heavy tome. Instead, Rhonda's gentle and caring speaking style comes through in every page. She speaks of her personal journey, and gives examples of her own struggles and struggles of others around her in which they have overcome challenges.

Rhonda doesn't just write about the Celtic Wheel of the Year, she lives it.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in growing more fully into their sovereign self within a Celtic spiritual path.

I was honored to get an advance copy of The Celtic Wheel of the Year to read and I can say with all sincerity that this book is truly transformative in the way the material is presented. As someone who thought they knew the wheel of the year in all its forms, I was so pleasantly and profoundly surprised at how McCrimmon presents this content in not only a fresh way but in a useful way that is actionable.

I also really love how the author balances what could potentially be very dense material with very grounded language that is accessible to anyone– whether you already have a whole library of spiritual books or this is the very first one you’re picking up. Her writing is down-to-earth, smart, well-organized and even humorous at times, while also engendering a gentle sense of reverence for the traditions and practices being discussed.

One of the things I appreciated about McCrimmon’s first book, The Cauldron & The Drum, is how she masterfully pairs historical context with modern realities, while also encouraging the reader to find what’s true for them. The same can be said for The Celtic Wheel of the Year. She presents thoughtful exercises throughout, making suggestions on what practices tied to the wheel could look like but not in a way that smacks of dogma or doctrine. On the contrary, I would say this book is as much a self-exploration for the reader as anything else. I highly recommend this book! I will be reading it again as soon as I get my hard copy in the mail– with a highlighter in hand!

As much as I enjoyed Rhonda's 1st book, The Cauldron and the Drum, which provided the down to earth basics of Celtic Shamanism, which I needed at that time, this one spoke directly to my Heart!
Although it provides as much information as can be gleaned and surmised about the Four Sacred Directions, their meanings and the Ancient Gods and Goddesses associated with the various Celebrations, it delves into so much more! For me, it really provided a way to identify my true self, my core values and the tools I could implement to achieve my own physical, spiritual and mental health goals.
Apart from the value of the content, Rhonda's style of writing fits her subject matter perfectly. She is very direct about the difficult parts of each individual's journeys around the Wheel and cites relatable examples encountered by former students/clients, yet some of her own mystical experiences are described in a way that verges on poetry.
This is not just about the Celtic Wheel of the Year - it is probably the most motivational book I have ever read about how to find and align my own soul values with integrity, self-trust and belief in the Universal strength and power that most of us don't realize we possess. Very highly recommended!

The Celtic Wheel of the Year is not only a delightful read and journey through the seasons, it's a practical, applicable manual for moving through the seasons and cycles of your own inner world. I first read the e-book and am now enjoying listening to the audio version as well (and, yes, the narration is good - not annoying or with an American accent, Lol.)

I really appreciated the combination of historical context, personal experience, and approachable practices - it made for an engaging read as well as feeling accessible and relevant to my own life. After traveling around the four sections of the wheel, it felt so nourishing to come to chapter 11 about finding sovereignty and balance within the Center.

As much as I enjoy hearing about characters from mythology such as the Cailleach, for me the real value is in connecting the dots to my daily life, and learning to embody my deepest values with more clarity, better boundaries and greater reverence for the world around me. I would highly recommend this book as both an entertaining and educational read and as a valuable resource for navigating your own spiritual path.

This book was unlike any other that I have encountered about the wheel of the year. I highly recommend it to anyone who follows the seasons, nature, paganism, or Scotland. The audio is difficult to follow at times due to the narrator's heavy Scottish accent. If you have difficulty understanding Scottish, I recommend getting the Kindle version. The advantage of that is that you can highlight and take extensive notes.

I just started an interest in all things Celtic, wiccan, folk lore, religious and anything like it. This book has information about the celebration and activities that you can do to celebrate the Wheel of the Year. i found it interesting, down to earth that didn't get too hung up on the religious aspect.
