The story of Lauren and Salencia’s love continues in this second book in the Now & Forever series.
Lauren and Sally are 15, they’re sophomores, they’re in love, and they’re growing up. Are they ready for the simple challenges of life? For learning to drive, sex, planning their futures both in general and together, to think about careers or college, for losing someone they care about deeply – forever? Are they ready to face new experiences? To deal with foreign cultures and celebrations, travel, attending a royal ball, and more? Is Lauren ready to meet Sally’s grandparents? Is Sally ready to lose her virginity?
The girls are growing into young women. They’re on the cusp of adulthood. Life is coming at them, whether they’re ready for it, or not.
I write teen fiction; primarily romantic teen fiction.
I do not write autobiographies. Also, I really think it odd that people would want to know much about me. Isn’t it enough to know that I am the author of [Insert one of my titles here]?
Should it matter if I live in Morocco or Maine? (neither) Do I also speak Swahili? (nope, but it’s fun to say, isn’t it?) Do I prefer Chocolate or Strawberry? (chocolate chip cookie dough)
No, of course not. You want to know if I wrote [title] or [some other title]. You want to know when the next in the series you’re reading will be out. That sort of thing. This is the wrong page for that. Try one of the others.
Also, I don’t use Goodreads. So, if there’s a way to interact with me I either cannot or have forgot to turn off, I’m not ignoring you, I simply don’t and never will know about it.
More drama than in the first book, so less quipping and more seriousness. Liked the more pronounced internal battles of the girls. Also the minor characters got some extra time. The end is really abrupt. Waiting for the next book...
I didn’t like this book as much as the first one in the series, to be perfectly honest, but it’s still extremely good. The characters are wonderfully unique, each very distinctive, and each sounding distinctive when they speak. The setting is so well described in spots that I can see it in my head, and as I usually don’t have a very visual imagination, this is quite an accomplishment by the author! And then there’s the story itself . . .
While Love or Lust is very much a “day in the life” type book, this one’s scenes are more thematically unified. This book is, in some ways, a coming of age story -- actually, I think the whole series is shaping up to be a coming of age story -- but it lacks the usual One Major Event That Forces The Character(s) To Grow Up. This is a very pleasant change of pace. There are some very major events in this book, and those do contribute to Lauren and Sally maturing, but for the most part they’re growing up more the way real people do: the occasional big thing that makes you reassess things and lots of little day-to-day things that gradually work on you.
Really, I think the main reason I didn’t like it as much as the first book in the Now & Forever series is that the ending seems a bit abrupt. The book seems to just stop instead of actually ending. It’s possible the first one does this too, and I’ve just forgotten, though.
Still though, this was a delightful book, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
