With his enemy defeated and order re-established, Vaan plans to enjoy his life with his Raasa mate. Mikayla’s upcoming birth makes his heart sing with joy.
Mikayla prepares for the birth of her first youngling with her Overlord mate. This should be a happy time but Vaan must return to Kaban and reassure his people that he yet lives.
There are still those not pleased at the turn of events with Thenl’s downfall and seek to destroy what the Overlord has built. Will Vaan and Mikayla finally be able to relax or will trouble continue to follow them?
This is the second book of the series and is not a standalone. It revolves around the pregnancy and delivery of Mikayla (Miki) from Book 1. One could say that it’s more of an extension of the first book. IMO it reads as a long, extended and satisfying epilogue to
I won this book as prize from Michelle taking over a great FB page. The prize came with no expectations for a review. With that being said. I simply had to write one simply based on how good thus book was!
You really need to read Honor Bound for thus story to work the best. With that being said. I loved that we got to see how Miki and Vaan relationship continued and what other surprises happen along the way. My only complaint is it was over too soon!!
This was a very enjoyable read, heart warming. laugh out loud moments and heart ripping moments. you have them all and it was great! :)
This novella picks up where book 1, Honor Bound, ends. It’s really hard to say something about the story without it being a spoiler. About all I can safely say is that Vaan, at the urging of his brother, Saran, pays a long overdue visit to Kaban. Of course, while he’s gone, things start happening in Raasa and he races back. You’ll have to read the story to find out what the happenings were and how our protagonists respond.
I didn’t notice as many grammatical errors as there were in the first book, nor did I notice that many misspelled words. The story was well told and the reader is emotionally involved (at least, THIS reader was). Michelle Howard is a fresh voice in the field of fantasy romance. She has become one of my favorite authors!
Short story of events leading Upto and after the birth of the babies. You get to find out also what is to come as little nuggets were dropped for the basis of the next book.
It was a time of peace and rejoicing for Overlord Vaan Galip. The only worry he really felt was the concern for his love, his mate Mikayla and their unborn youngling. They may live on the same planet, but are different species and the strain that carrying his youngling has put on her makes him uneasy. As Overlord his responsibilities to his people as well as his mate lay heavy on his shoulders. Vaan cannot help but feel that something is wrong even though Mikayla says everything is alright. When he receives another urgent message from his brother telling that he must come back and show his people that he lives again, Vaan is torn between duty and love.
Mikayla is the leader of her house and is respected by her people. She cares for her people and is an exceptional leader. Mikayla loves her mate and their unborn youngling. Having Vaan with her is the most important thing as her birthing time approaches. Vaan tells her that he must go and help his brother, but will return before her time. He is leaving a contingency of Warlords with her for her protection and promises to return in four days.
Will Vaan return in time for the birth of his youngling? Has the evil really been eradicated or will it rear its ugly head again? This book has a Star Wars feel with the diverse creatures and world that the author brings to life.

Would I recommend this book: Yes! This is a sequel to Honor Bound the first book in the Warlord series. It is a fast hitting, action packed story of love, loyalty and betrayal. If you enjoy a good Sci-Fi Romance this book is right for you!
Would I read other books by this author: Yes! The world that this writer created is filled with unique and wonderful characters. Love the way she painted pictures in my mind with her words.
***Received an ARC of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review***
I want to thank Michelle Howard for gifting me this book for a honest review
I was so excited to be contacted to read this!!! But first I went and read the first book so I would not be lost while reading this book, loved the first book. So this is the second installment to the Overlord series and this book takes place where book one ended. Mikayla is very pregnant and almost due to have the baby. Everyone hovers over her especially Vaan and his Warlords, she is very emotional and very crabby. Vaan is so worried that she is over doing it, in his land Kabanian woman are mostly on bed rest during pregnancy, but not the Raasa woman.
Mikayla hates how everyone fusses over her and is not able to do a lot. When Vaan reveals news to her that he must travel to his land she is upset and worried. You know nothing good is going to come out with him leaving. So he is gone maybe one day when all hell breaks loose and Mikayla's home is attacked and she is almost killed. Then things get even worse when she goes into labor. I do not want to spoil what happens here. All and All a great little read. I did feel it was a little bit short compared to the first book. But loved it anyway!! I really hope Michelle Howard will continue with this series, especially with the other Warlords. Thanks again
I love this short story about Vaan and Mikayla. When we first left them back in Honor Bound they were getting to know one another and then was such an asshole. Now they have moved past all that, venison arsehole, but he is getting better. This book has a lot of drama within it even though it is little over 3 hours long in audiobook. We get to see Vaan going back to his 'home' and order to set to rights the madness that occurred and book one. While he is over there shit gets real at the compound and Mikayla goes into labor. I will not go into all the details but this got me all in the feels. 😭😔
Novella. Nice topper for the first book. Normally I don't care much for novella's, as they don't allow enough time for a story to be told well. This one didn't waste a lot of time resetting anything that was told in the first book. I can't say it was terribly original, as I was pretty much able to predict the whole thing start to finish, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I never like it when there is a pregnancy and the hero is called away. So, so predictable. And I am always irritated that the men aren't there for the struggle of the birth yet manage to pop in just as all is completed. Anyway, I liked the read, I think it would have been a nice epilogue to the first book, or freebie extra at the end of book one.
I really love the relationship between the two main characters that developed in the first book. Reading this just made me all giddy for them again. There were a couple of moments some of the action had me yelling "Jesus take the wheel!" And tears were shed, but it did end with a HEA along with what seems like the buildup to another book in the series. My only wish was that it was longer. But that's mainly because I always greedily inhale MH's books and don't want them to end.
More Mikayla and Vaan. I loved it so much!! I don't want to stop reading about these two.
Mikayla is pregnant and Vaan needs to go back to his home country to reassure people he actually is still alive. He couldn't pick a worse time to do it, right before she is supposed to give birth, but it needs to be done and that is the premise for this book.
It was no e to revisit Miki and her Overlord. Heavily pregnant things are still volatile and everyone is still adjusting. The Warlords and the Rassa are merging their cultures.
I would've put this under hero-lousy-insensitive-boor, but he picked up... I generally do not like this type of hero, but... he did manage to listen and grow, so kudos to the author :). Good for a sci-fi.
Just like Honor Bound was a treat so was this. You can't help but love the main characters. Though not a full length novel this kept you reading until the end. I will recommend this and the others in the series. I know they'll be just as entertaining.
Fast paced, exhilarating and surprisingly sweet. The heir is here!! Miki and Vaan are growing better with each book. The Warlords are growing on me and I'm finally liking them more. I'd love to see them get their own true mate though.
TOO SHORT!!! I want more of Vaan and Miki, of the Warlords and the crazy sweet Erana and Arane. Thanks for making look crazy when laughing out loud at their antics haha. I very much look forward to Kavan story!!
I read this book on an airplane and the time flew. The characters aren't cliches and will have you routing for them. I will definitely read more by this author.
