My every book obsession seems to open a door that leads me to another book.
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius is one of the few classics I swear by and recommend constantly. So when I got a chance to actually know the man behind those words, I had to pick this one.
The book collates information from four main historical sources, so we're walking through actual history as we move through the major incidents of his life. We also get a genealogical insight into his family, and yes... he had 13 children 😶.
The war zone calamities were one of the first things that made me pause. You can't help but wonder how much they shaped the man he eventually became. Then came a world divided over religious differences between Pagans and Christians, adding another layer to the life he was trying to navigate.
The entire narration has a certain tenderness to it that honestly left me in awe... and I just couldn't help myself from rereading those lines
