Wow! And that is for two reasons. First, the pairing in this book of the series is fascinating, with the dragon clan healer, Kristoff, and the wolf alpha’s eldest son, Garrett, finding out they are mates – except neither of them wants to be mated to the other and they each have more than excellent reasons. The second reason is related to the shocking event that took place at the end of the last book – well, I am happy to report that the author has, indeed, found a way to fix it. I am not going to be able to give any more details, since that would still be a spoiler, but rest assured, all is okay again on that front. At least almost well, there are still a few obstacles…. But it looks as if that secondary story line will still continue in parallel with the main one for a while, and I really like that idea.

As for this book’s main story, let me begin with Garrett. He is Conner’s eldest brother, and destined to become alpha of the Black Mountain pack one day. He had a mate over fifty years ago, but she died in childbirth as did Garrett’s baby. Garrett loved her a lot and is determined to never love anyone like that again. Never mind that he doesn’t think he will ever find another mate, and definitely not one of the dragons, so he was excluded from the peace treaty that means as many wolves as possible should mate with dragons. There is only one problem: as soon as he finally makes it up the mountain for his nephew’s birth, he falls in lust with the dragon healer. And no matter how determined he is to call it lust, not a mating, he cannot deny it forever. But when he finally gives in, it is not his proudest hour, as he completely misses all the signals from Kristoff and ends up giving him the mating bite without the dragon’s consent. Uh-oh! And even though he is a very proud alpha, he soon realizes that he will need all the help he can get from his younger, dragon-mated brothers to fix this mess!

Kristoff has his own set of issues. Not many dragons know this, but he was raped by alpha wolves a few years ago, and the one thing he never, ever wants to do is even have close contact with another alpha. The list of nasty names and nastier feelings he has for the overbearing idiots is long and detailed. When Garett comes to his room, clearly wanting sex, Kristoff is surprisingly tempted. He only goes ahead with it to prove to himself that he isn’t “broken” from his previous experiences, and he figures having sex again will be good for him. But when Garrett bites him and mates him he is livid. How dare he! Needless to say, he will not give in easily, no matter how considerate and romantic Garrett suddenly becomes.

If you like this series and want to know what’s next for the various dragons and wolves of Black Mountain, if you enjoy reading about two men who are super-determined not to find a mate but cannot help themselves when they meet, and if you’re looking for a read that is exciting, interesting, and contains some very hot bedroom action, then you will probably like this novella. As ever, I can’t wait for the next book!

Garret was not my favorite Alpha and I did not like his "taking" of Kristoff. I know it's dragons and shifters and complete ridiculousness, but seriously, boundaries dude. No means no even when it's a dragon telling a werewolf. And that is a sentence I just typed with all manner of conviction. Good gravy.

Garret did manage to redeem himself some and Kristoff was happy but still, the beginning tainted the rest for me.

All I want to say is if Roman starts to fall for Clatcher because they ended up having sex I am not reading this series anymore.... though I can't believe he would do that anyway, but than again when it comes to guys and sex not to hard to get them in the mood to do it. Though once he finds out that is love is alive I don't think he is going to feel to good about sleeping with Clatcher.

As for Clatcher, he should be hung up for going far as to get Roman to sleep with him. The man is in pain and you are going to use that to get what you want, that's just messed up. Clatcher can try and act like he is doing this all for Roman but sorry I don't believe that. Sleeping with Roman has nothing to do with helping Roman and everything to doing what you want.

I know this wasn't what the book was about, but I just had to complain about it.

3.5 Stars ~ I can't say that Garret and Kristoff were my favorite couple, although I liked them just fine. Garret was too much of an alpha in the beginning, and kind of a jerk, and then suddenly his whole personality just changed. Either that, or I didn't get enough time to get to know the real him. Kristoff I liked, but again, I didn't feel like I really got a chance to know him.

Of course, the exciting part was Roman and Clatcher finally getting together as they're still hunting for Aisliwen. Clatcher understands, perfectly that Roman will never love him, but he wants to give himself to the man.

What will happen, though, when they find out Kendrick reappeared at the castle? Huh? WTF?

Sigh... Roman and Kendrick... The main couple in this story fell to the wayside thanks to these two. Talk about a clusterfuck... Why do I keep reading these? I'm a masochist, that's why! *palm to face*

This book is little more than rape in the beginning. The first three chapters largely consist of Garret listening to his animal instincts and Kristoff not being comfortable with the sexual situation in the least. I am not okay with that, nor am I remotely okay with how their relationship continued; I feel like Kristoff forgave Garret too easily and they said Love way too easily. This book is just a cluster-fuck and nothing about the relationship is realistic or desirable. I like the twist with Kendrick and the hope that it gives, but mixed feelings on way things are going with Roman and Clatcher. The thing going on with them isn’t healthy, for either of them. Like, I really have nothing but complaints for this volume and hope relationships get better, because tired of the rapey matings and lack of communication and toxic behaviors.

I don't know what to think about this series anymore. Other than the first, all the romances are way too quick and none have chemistry in my opinion. The Roman/Kendrick/Clatcher issue is the only thing keeping me purchasing these books.

The story is illogical with in the boundaries and setting of the story itself. spoiler: Garret's solutions and plans have such obvious flaws that even a 4 year old can argue against them. The only thing that takes the story forward is a very cheap plot manipulation. The characters act illogical, on more than one occasion and on many levels, just because the author says so. This story is an insult to the reader's intelligence.

Short review:

3.5 stars. Kristoff has quietly stoic personality and I would have liked a little more angst and detail about the event that forged his personality and did he always behave this way. Garret is an Alpha wolf with a little too much ego, so it was nice to see him knocked down a few pegs.

Oh Clatcher, I hope he gets his HEA, with the man he loves. I know this is Garrett and Kristoff's story, but I really felt for Clatcher. Maybe he'll be in a M/M/M relationship, at least I can hope.
