Sarah was religious enough to know her sins would find her out, but she never dreamed a bullet would make it happen.
It's Christmas morning and Clint Wolf is looking forward to spending it with his beautiful wife and wonderful children. However, fate has other plans, and when the phone rings bright and early, it's the dispatcher telling him there's been a murder. Bidding farewell to his family, he sets off to meet Officer Homer Verdin at the scene, unaware that this case would be like none he's ever worked.
While the seasoned detective has seen his share of extreme blood and gore, this case is not like any of those. A single gunshot has done the job, and the scene is fairly mild. What makes the difference is the confusing nature of some of the evidence at the scene, and he soon finds himself befuddled and in desperate need of some help.
Thankfully for Clint, his detective partner, Amy Rice, decides to come back to work early from maternity leave, and she jumps right into the case. As the day drags on and they struggle to find answers, Susan Wolf, Takecia Gayle, Melvin Saltzman, and Baylor Rice all leave the comfort of their homes to help bring about a resolution to the case. The extra brain power helps tremendously, but when they learn that one of their prime suspects has been kidnapped, the case is turned back on its head.
Despite the challenges, they plod on, unaware that someone in their work family will have to sacrifice greatly in order to solve the case...and that person might not make it out of Christmas Day.
When a character worries about their luck running out, or when focus is put on telling people to be careful, you know things are going to be rough.
This one was. Lately, they’ve all been more emotionally charged than the earlier books in the series. And I love it.
The crew comes together to solve a murder at a motel. But why was the victim shot where/how she was? Why are there two points of entry? And what happened to the person with her… if there even was one?
This one has a lot of twist and turns, culminating in a heated climax. And talk about a rare motive! This one won’t be easy to forget.
I was really disappointed that the dog was left home alone again nd not included with the hunt, even on Christmas day. Like an episode of the movie 24. His dog might have been able to prevent receiving a very painful Christmas present. As it was I thought our hero had died and this was Bourg's way of wrapping up the series. I only have one more installment to go and I've read all 33. Maybe he'll use his dog more in another series. (hope) All of these books have been written so well that you can't wait to find what is on the next page. Excellent writer.
Another gripping, fast pace case for Clint and the team. When his Christmas morning is interrupted by the body of a female being found at a hotel, Clint is puzzled by the scene as it seems their victim's room was broken into but the shot that killed her came through a locked door. Each clue makes the case more and more confusing. Before the day is over, many more people will be dead and one of their own is left fighting for their life. It's certainly a Christmas day no one will ever forget.
Always five stars! However, this book was a little off for me. While I enjoyed it, it did seem almost as if someone else than Bourg wrote it. The first half seemed to be a lot of explaining and confusion. While it was puzzling to have two separate entry points to the crime scene, it didn’t seem like it needed so much roundabout wondering and back and forth thought process. While it was key, it seems it could have been said in a simpler way. …and where was Achilles?! The action part was reserved for a real blast towards the end.
What an absolutely amazing suspenseful, fast moving and heartfelt case, I could not put it down I had to know what was going to happen, my heart was in my mouth with each turn of the page. It has to be one of the best cases the team has had. Can’t wait for Clint and the teams next case.
Christmas day is a family day, but Clint gets a call about a murder at a local hotel. A woman was shot in the abdomen, and the scene is strange because she was shot from the locked bathroom door, and the front door was kicked in. Great story with many twists and turns.
Writing in first person, Bourg over-explains character thoughts to a level of redundancy and obviousness that insults the reader and often becomes “preachy.”. This is particularly evident in the most recent books. I kept hoping it would change. I’m not sure I’ll continue with future books in this series.
What a thrill ride of a book! I have read this series from the beginning and have come to expect tons of action and twists in the story, but this was the best one yet. I read this in one sitting, everything else came to a halt. Bring on the next one!
These were amazing books. I read all. I was captivated by every single book. Every character played the best part ever. I loved each and everyone.. Thank you for bringing these books to life. Also London Carter was right there with Clint.
I was on the edge of my seat and totally unprepared for each episode. One of my very favorite authors. Love all the characters involved. Have read each book about Clint Wolf.
Another Clint Wolf mystery that doesn't disappoint. Non-stop action and one with a mystery that kept you guessing right up to the end. Love the characters! I always look forward to when I can rejoin them in another murder mystery.
A really good addition to the Clint Wolf Mystery Series . This one has all the things you’ve come to expect along with our favorite characters. Murder, suicide and a kidnapping!
All of the Clint Wolf series are great. I love the characters. I was scared at the end of this one. Thank you B.J for making it not the end. Please keep it going.
BJ as knack for bringing characters to life. You want the good to triumph over evil. As I read this book the twists and turns made you stay up later and read on. Kudos
BJ Bourg is an excellent author. This book was full of twists and turns. Each one of his books gets better and better. I can't wait for the next one. I have read everything he has written. Thank you once again for a fantastic book.
I like his main characters and how he developed them, but this book was just off. Took too long to get simple points across and then they became redundant. It was as if BJ had someone else write it. Not his typical style.
A woman was killed at the little motel in town. It was Christmas Day and Clint went to begin working on the case. Evidence had the team baffled but a hand print led them to the murderer. Two gun fights and several deaths later the case was solved.
It was exciting from the beginning of the book till the end. Lots of shootings, lots of suspects and a murderer that was hard to figure out you can’t go wrong with this book. I couldn’t put it down from beginning to end. I am sure you will enjoy it also.
Very unusual in that the entire situation was a series of coincidence s when the author normally mocks the possible acts by coincidence in all of the previous offerings. Somehow Clint manages to survive being shot with a 44 magnum pistol and high powered rifles.
WOW BOOK #32, I CAN'T BELIEVE I'VE READ THAT MANY AND I'M NOT TIRED YET. THE MORE CLUES WE GOT JUST MADE THE CASE MORE CONFUSING NOTHING WAS MAKING SENSE AT ALL. SMH! ANOTHER WINNER IT NEARLY SCARED ME TO DEATH AT TIMES BUT IT WAS GREAT! LOVED IT! ;D
Convoluted. Had a hard time keeping all the bad guys and victims straight. And seriously, no one can get shot and hurt this much and survive in real life. But still an enjoyable enough read at 3 am when I can’t sleep.
This book was so good. I really enjoyed it. I just couldn't Imagine what the neck was going on. As always BJ Bourbon was excellent. In book 32. Waiting for book 33.
