Chassie began her writing career in the young adult genre, her books running the gamut from teen romances and adventures to mysteries, including two of the updated Nancy Drew Files. Sixteen books later, a good many of which also appeared in foreign language editions, she undertook a new challenge: the adult market. The results were three romantic suspense novels for Silhouette Intimate Moments, written as Joyce McGill: THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS and UNFORGIVABLE made the Waldenbooks Bestsellers List. UNFORGIVABLE, a romantic suspense, was Silhouette's first adult romance featuring African American protagonists. Other milestones were the Romantic Times 1989-1990 Lifetime Achievement Award for New Series Romantic Mystery Author and the Romantic Times 1990-91 Career Achievement Certificate of Excellence for Series Romantic Fantasy. I loved the characters. Leigh Ann Warren is someone I’d enjoy knowing in real life. Between jobs but trained as a cop, she’s totally believable in crime-solving. I was fully wrapped up in the story as the first strange things began happening to her and around her, well before there was a murder. Then the stakes went up dramatically. The mystery unfolds in an unusual way, yet with every thread tied in from the diverse strands of the plot. The complexity made this book full or surprises —so much happens in every chapter. The town of Ourland won my heart. I thought the antagonist character was a bit of stretch as far as her motives and her psychology, but that detracted very little from my enjoyment of the book. The process of discovering who she is and finding her was a great puzzle, a good chase.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love her style of writing, the characters and the plot, which never got boring—I couldn’t put it down. I plan to read more by this author.
Leigh Warren’s idenity has been taken and she is determined to find the perpatrater. The story is slowly paced even with many incidents but it remasters interesting but not a page turner type of mystery
Somewhat detailed in the descriptions of the local vistas. Basically good, but I prefer more action and less touring. Some of the characters were a bit eccentric for my taste.
