Ted Tayler is the international best-selling indie author of the Freeman Files and Phoenix series. Ted lives in the English West country, where his stories are based. He was born in 1945 and has been married to Lynne since 1971. They have three children and four grandchildren.
His thought-provoking mysteries appeal to readers of Sally Rigby, Joy Ellis, Pauline Rowson, and Faith Martin. His action-packed thrillers are a must for fans of Mark Dawson and J C Ryan.
Gus Freeman’s cold case investigations are carried out with reasoned deduction rather than bursts of frantic action. In each of the 24 books, unsolved murders are accompanied by romance, humour, and country life. The core message in the 12 Phoenix novels is that criminals should pay for their crimes. Unfortunately, the current system fails to deliver the correct punishment, so Phoenix helps redress the balance.
Ted Tayler writes a thrilling, cold case crime tale with Gathering Clouds. This book is part of the Freeman Files series, and this is volume twenty-three. I always recommend reading a book series starting with the first book. Tayler has written so many stories about Gus and his team, I recommend learning about them from book one, and work your way down. That's what I did, and each story is definitely a thrilling story, while it delves into the crime for the team to solve, it also explores the team's personal lives. Another gruesome cold case, but Gus and his team is wondering who killed a young couple, and why. They were bludgeoned, and left in their bed, and the case hasn't been solved. They were a couple, but also very popular bikers. There are roadblocks along the way and push back from those who originally investigated the case back in 2012. Things aren't as they seem, and the harder Gus investigates, the more questions he and his team have. This is one of those books that grabs you from the start and pulls you in. This author is a great storyteller. The reader just embarks on a superb journey. A definite attention grabber, so much I couldn't put it down. Both thrilling and intriguing, all the way to the end. A reader can get lost in the story. Sometimes you have to put the book down, just to take a breath. You never know what's going to happen when Gus and his team are on the case. Gathering Clouds is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. Amy's Bookshelf Reviews recommends that anyone who reads this book, to also write a review.
Gathering Clouds: The Freeman Files Series: Book 23 by Ted Tayler
October 2012; John Crees and Mandy Howard are found battered to death in their bed by John's Boss. Gus takes on the cold case digging deep into the brutal death of these two bikers. Seems he has upset some (people) but his will not deter him, he will fight to find the answers.
The story moves at a fast pace with engaging dialog and attention to detail. I was brought deep into Gus's world. Likable characters, round out this fantastic (procedural) crime story. I recommend Gathering Clouds to all.
I can't think of much to say that I haven't said before whilst reading this series. The only thing I can think of is - if you haven't read The Freeman Files yet, you've missed a treat! I was hooked from book 1 and each book has only got better. I will be sad and lost when I finish book 24, the last in the series! If you like detective stories with characters that are interesting enough to feel like friends and family after a short time - read and enjoy as I have!
This would not be a good book to begin The Freeman Files. It was good to know the team and Gus and Suzie's situation going into the book. The mystery was solved but just didn't feel as satisfying as some of the earlier books in the series. I will read the next one--still waiting for baby Freeman to be born!
I have anxiously awaited every book in this series since the 1st . I would recommend this series to anyone and have to say how sad the next book is the last one. I guess things can’t run forever but I don’t have to like it.
Always enjoy catching up with Gus and his crew. There is always something new and exciting about each case the CRT get but seeing how each character develops is equally satisfying. Can't wait for the next installment but sad that it will be the last.
