Aka Chassie L. West.

Chassie began her writing career in the young adult genre, her books running the gamut from teen romances and adventures to mysteries, including two of the updated Nancy Drew Files. Sixteen books later, a good many of which also appeared in foreign language editions, she undertook a new challenge: the adult market. The results were three romantic suspense novels for Silhouette Intimate Moments, written as Joyce McGill: THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS and UNFORGIVABLE made the Waldenbooks Bestsellers List. UNFORGIVABLE, a romantic suspense, was Silhouette's first adult romance featuring African American protagonists. Other milestones were the Romantic Times 1989-1990 Lifetime Achievement Award for New Series Romantic Mystery Author and the Romantic Times 1990-91 Career Achievement Certificate of Excellence for Series Romantic Fantasy. Chassie L. West lives in Maryland.

I really like this series. I loved this story line, and the character really came to life. What I didn't like was the horrible editing. Characters named when the story clearly meant someone else, the numerous typos, the plot jumps (how and when did Duck come to town?) that really should be added for continuity. The ending. ... What? I'll complete the series, but if this series continued, I'd have fired the editor without references. The narrative is smooth and draws you right in, but that editing. SMH!!!

I have felt all the Leigh Ann Series have been solid 3.5⭐. The mysteries always have lots of twists and i have never figured it out on my own

This book was very similar to authors other book Loss of Innocence in that there is a complicated family with many people resembling one another as well as a creepy small town.

Leigh Ann Warren was tough enough to make it as a cop on the meanest of D.C.'s streets. Now it's time for a different career, a marriage, and a new life. Then her phone rings, and a low, threatening voice sends her world spinning into chaos.

The lives of two innocent people are at stake. Someone dear to her heart faces a cruel and undeserved fate. Suddely Leigh Ann's tangled roots are dragging her back to the small African-American coastal community where her past's most lethal secrets are hidden. Here, with precious time ticking away, this frantic former cop must separate the truth from the lies and follow the mysteries of the family she never knew -- and of her own parents' early deaths -- to their devastating source. Because somewhere amid old feuds, stunning personal revelations, and shocking scandals are the answers Leigh Ann desperately needs to prevent a tragedy . . . and to live another day.

Really enjoyed this book! The story had many twists and tons of characters, but I was really into. There is one more in this series and I just got it today from my library. Hopefully this author will do more.
