James Carter has been Ava Monroe's nightmare. He's taken everything from her. We've seen the destruction he leaves in his wake, but we haven't seen what created his darkness.
Stepping Out tells James' story leading up to that fateful night he met Ava. Was he always a twisted soul? Or did compassion and love run through his veins once upon a time?
I suppose you want to hear about how Emily enjoys long walks on the beach, a nice glass of wine, and wants a man with... Oh wait. This isn't her dating profile. *Ahem* I will start again. When Emily isn't nose deep in her latest and greatest writing adventure or in over her head with her spitfire daughter; you'll find her emerged in the latest book to catch her eye. She doesn't judge, she reads it all and hungers for more. She has been declared a Pinterest queen by some, and is one of the few people you'll ever meet to actually pull off those easy looking recipes; the ones that the rest of us burn. She'd love to hear from you so feel free to hit her up on www.match *nevermind....you'll find the links below!
This is a exceptional back story on James, if you have read the first two then you know he is our character to hate. This book explains James and maybe why he is like he is. I read this last night and like the other two books this has stayed with me. Many emotions and many questions about Richard the father and James the son and why they are like they are. Emily is a fantastic writer, she takes words and spins them into a story that draws you right in. Love the whole series!
Love love love! Emily has done a great job once again! I was torn between my hatred for James and really feeling sorry for him. This novella ties in beautifully with the other two novels in the series and I can't wait to get my hands on #3!
I was very wary to read this, I am not a fan of James at all- and getting his story wasn't really something I was interested in. However, I knew that it would only help to make the series more complete.
This novella follows James' path. The tragic events he suffered through that lead him to his fateful encounter with Ava. He is truly a product of the hard life he has lived. There were some parts that were harrowing and tough to get through. That being said, the issues tackled in this book were handled with the care they needed to not be too much.
After reading James' story, I still don't like him at all (that is a vast understatement). He is the quintessential bad guy. He shows absolutely no remorse or even realizes that what he is doing is wrong. In fact, he feels that he is giving his victims what they want. There were a few secrets that were revealed in this book that play a large roll in the story that has unfolded between James, Richard and Seth. I look forward to the next installment of this series.
Stepping Out by Emily R. Pearson I received this book from the author for an honest review. HOLY CRAP! What did I just read? Oh I can tell ya what I read….a HOT ASS MESS of CRAZY!! If you are reading the series you need to read this novella. It opens us up to the life of James. Now we all hate him and fear him right? Well this novella I kinda *Gulp* liked and actually cared for him. I mean he NEVER STOOD A CHANCE at life with everything we discover about his past. Is he a nut job? Oh yes he is. Could he have had a better life? OH Heck yes. Are there even MORE secrets about his past that we uncover? OMG YES YES YES!!! I am telling ya…I loved and feared him. I wanted to rescue him and commit him to a psych ward. This novella just makes us look at him in different light. DoI want him with Ava…OMG NO freaking way but do I GET what his motive are? ABSO-FREAKING-LUTLEY!!!
I will admit to being a little hesitant on reading this because let's face it, he's the conflict of my HEA with Seth and Ava. But Ms. Pearson does a great job of detailing on how James came to be the way he is and what kind of emotional and physical problems he endured as a child/teen. There is great depth to the character I wasn't expecting and sadly when I turned the last page I truly wanted more and wasn't ready for it to be over yet. With the great insight to his character development I started to actually feel for him and wanted him to realize the wrong doings and change for the better so I became emotionally involved. Can't wait to see what happens next. Congratulations on another great read!
Hmmmm, I'm now in a state of mixed emotions. Before reading this book James was probably the character I disliked the most in any book I've read, a skill author Emily R Pearson should be praised for. However now my feelings towards him have been shaken up - thanks Emily, you have certainly shown me that he has some redeeming features (not many may I say) and I can now sorta see a reason behind his actions. This book has been perfectly written to keep my intrigue high and my love for this series strong. I truly cannot sing the praises of this series of this amazing author enough. If you buy one book this week make it this one. Thanks Emily for throwing my emotions towards James all over.
4.5 Stars Stepping Out is a short story to accompany Emily's Moving Forward Series this book centres on James's life we get an insight into what happened with him and why he ended up in the care system. We see his evil tendencies started when he was just 5 years old but seem to escalate after his young foster sister is killed. This book also answers some questions about his relationship with Richard Carter.
This book is definitely worth reading and I can't wait for the next installment from Emily.
I was a little skeptical about reading James' story. After the last two books I absolutely hate him!! Although I still do after this it was still a great backstory. It was nice seeing things from his perspective. And also finding out a few more pieces of the puzzle. But I still think James is a sick twisted psycho. Possibly even more so now. Ok I have to cut this short so I can start in on the next book in this series.
Wowser! Another 5 star must read for this new up coming author with major twists & turns :o It will make you stop & think but you must read the first 2 books, #1 Moving Forward & #2 Two Steps Back, also 5 star must reads :) ... I was given this to read in exchange for an honest review & I honestly recommend these 3 books by this talented young author to everyone & can't wait for her next books :)
Holy crow!!! I don't know if I've ever had such a huge love hate relationship in my life!! And on top of that, I hate that I feel anything towards James but hate. Being inside his head, learning what's happened to him in his life, made my heart break for him at times. Then he would do something awful and I'd go right back to hating him! Well played, Emily. Well played...
This short story is another excellent emotional read. After each of Emily's books I just have to sit. There are so many feelings going on. This is no exception. James has been the one you hate and now you just get the chance to know him and his story. Must Read!
