Happy Trails
Our semi-sheltered/semi-socialite sweetie is in for a rude awakening out on the trail. It’s one thing to be told of how different the Wild West is compared to cultured city-life of the East Coast; it’s quite another to spend entire days in the heat underneath a burning sun, sleep on bedrolls, and eat trail rations for weeks on end. Only to end up in a dry & dusty watering hole that needs building up from the virgin dirt. No wilting violets need apply for this travel method, let alone such a change in lifestyle.
Phoebe isn’t the only one leaving behind a posh lifestyle for the prairie. Henry (our hunky hero) gave up law to drive cattle for various clients. It’s as if he’s in a perpetual wagon train, just bouncing around the Midwest.
Seems to me that their paths were destined to cross…
‘Life is about learning’
Education isn’t only about reading, writing, &’rithmetic. One doesn’t have to be crossing a continent to need to know how to brew coffee over a campfire, chop wood, fish & hunt, load a wagon properly, preserve food, quilt, …all sorts of fun stuff! I have a few family members who do some of these for recreation and one cousin who actually lives this lifestyle. Survival skills aren’t only helpful for humans, but knowing the land & its needs benefit both flora & fauna.
Fave line:
‘You’re never too old for a good book.’
And children are always the correct age to have books read aloud to them.
I’ve already enjoyed the ‘Green Hills’ series and having some background on this town was really kinda cool!
