Bribing Saint Anthony is an entertaining and humorous mystery. A missing husband. A plot to blow up a national treasure. Fortune telling aunts. Mary Catherine, MC for short, didn’t move as the Queen of Boca Vista, Babbs La-Fleur, placed a pile of cash, which appeared out of a purse she knew cost more than her car, smack dab in the middle of her desk.
Word at all the cocktail parties was that MC had a skill that came in handy for an aging socialite going through a divorce. She was good at finding cash in hidden bank accounts. Cash to pay for a nip and tuck and a new identity: Cougar.
Hired that day by Queen Babbs to find her bad boy husband, Charlie, MC was back on familiar ground, tracking down bad guys through clues left in the DNA of their paper life.
Asking her Aunt Sophia to read the family fortune telling cards might have helped. Instead, the paper trail Charlie left takes MC from a murder in the world of rich socialites to working with covert government agents deep in the world of counter terrorism.
Praise for Bribing Saint Anthony
Review from Sheldon Siegel
"I had a chance to read Bribing Saint Anthony on a recent flight. It was a great read! I don't have a lot of time to read for fun these days, and your story was a treat. You have a nice touch, and MC is an engaging lead. Reminded me a bit of Carl Hiaasen--What is it about Florida, anyway?!? Keep up the good work!"
Cheers from San Francisco,
Sheldon

This was a fast-paced read that wove in a bunch of characters in a short amount of time. I enjoyed the story, especially how the different government agencies were tied in, but I honestly felt like it was too short! I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and may seek out the others in the series if I get in the mood for a quick mystery.
A little "outbthere" but the plot does the together . Not all that happy with the ending as one of the nefarious bad guys who started one of the dastardly plots comes out smelling like a fresh rose instead of the 3 day old garbage he is. Slightly ridiculous but entertaining.
Don't let the title fool you. This book is fairly quick move along tale. Twists and turns nothing dramatic, but fun. Eye rolling government drama and stubborn family members are just a few who make up just a few of the fun-loving characters. Oh yes and how could I forget Izzy.
An interesting and exciting tale filled with fascinating characters, living and not living. The story certainly revealed a knowledge of people and human failings, especially in those with political aspirations. Well worth your time!
She was an CPA, not a PI. when a Prado purse was opened and a stack of bills, ten thousand to be exact was placed in the center of her desk, memorizing for her. A missing Charlie, women with unlimited money from many marriage. A case that involves more than she thought. The story has humor, and unique characters.
I enjoyed this book because it was a fun story. Psychics , ghosts ,the mob , a murder and a terror plot. What's not to like? I also appreciated the straightforward writing without a lot of unnecessary description.good beach read.
I would place this book in a cozy adventure mystery genre. I never expected the series to be this exciting. The book does fall in the cozy genre but with a major plot and job adjacent characters. Love it!
The title Bribing St. Anthony caught my attention. He and St.Jude are my go to Saints to ask for help. So, I wondered about '"bribing". This was an entertaining and good read. Completely enjoyable.
The first book in what is a wonderful series features an investigative accountant/CPA, Greek aunts who read the cards, and semi-retired covert operatives. Great plots. Interesting characters.
A PLAYFUL MYSTERY. This book was funny, sassy, engaging and amusing. MC is an accountant hired to look for a rich lady's husband. She gets drawn into a wild ride of a case that involves terrorism, the mob, quirky aunts and a lot of other quirky secondary characters! There is murder and mayhem and lots of laughs from this book. The characters all have their own unique backgrounds and they are all likeable. I found myself cheering on this team of misfits! Throw in some Greek culture, fortune telling and you get a great story that is an easy read! It is reminiscent of Janet Evanovich's "Stephanie Plum" series! Definitely check this book out! I'm looking forward to reading more mysteries with MC and the gang!
MC (Mary Catherine) is an investigative account with a small practice in Florida following an IRS downsizing. When a woman is referred to MC to search for her missing husband, MC begins to realize this is not simply a missing person case. The mob, terrorists, the IRS, and high levels of the US government appear in the shadows.
The prose is a bit disjointed at times. In addition, the same character continues to speak for two or three consecutive paragraphs, so it slows down the reading to figure out who is talking. Finally, the plot seems almost nonsensical at times. Who are all these people and how are they connected?
That said, it is an easy read with little offensive language. Maybe some romantic intrigue would help?
I won a copy of this book and really enjoyed it. While I sometimes felt like an outsider when it came to the government job details—the inner workings were a bit complex—the heart of the story kept me engaged. The family dynamics were rich and relatable, and I loved rooting for the main character and her aunts.
Velma especially stood out. Her tough-love approach and determination to keep the MC safe while still pushing her into the field made her feel incredibly real and memorable. A layered, thoughtful read with characters I won’t forget.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this book but what I got was entertaining. Hard to keep up in some spots but it was definitely worth the effort to keep track of all that was going on. One would think St Anthony had no bearing on this book but you’d be wrong. I don’t know how humorous this was meant to be but I found parts of it to be quite funny and others to be deadly serious. If I had the choice to read it over again I would. In fact, I just might!
In celebration of a new series - Ghost & Camper and release of Wheeler-Dealer - Bribing Saint Anthony is free this week starting April 7th through April 11th. This book was full of the best mysteries and the most exciting moments that I have seen. MC and Velma are such great characters with a lot of personality. There were so many twists going on that it was, at times, hard to keep up. But I did. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I won a ebook copy of this book from Goodreads, trusting I would give a honest review. This was an interesting and exciting read with fantastic characters alive and dead!!! I personally loved Velma and MC. This is perfect for a long car ride, airplane, or beach read! I really enjoyed all the twists and turns this book had. I am impatiently waiting for the next book haha.
