I just finished the series. I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. The plot is great it's just the flow of things. Spicy scenes that didn't fit, strong FMC turned bratty and soft, not a true enemy to lovers more like enemy to lusters that eventually caught feelings. Honestly the side characters were more interesting than the main couple. I think I just didn't like the fact the FMC was portrayed as really strong and gone through a lot just to end up crying every five minutes or tearing up at everything her siblings do. The last book felt rushed and had so many things happen it was a little overwhelming.

I went into this series with high hopes, but I suspect my experience was shaped by having already read The Hunger Games. If I hadn’t, I might have enjoyed this more. As it stands, Books 1 and 4 in particular felt heavily reminiscent of that earlier dystopian arc, which made parts of the story feel less original than I’d hoped.
That said, the overall plot structure is solid. The core premise is engaging, and there are moments of genuine tension and forward momentum. The world-building holds together reasonably well, and the central conflicts are clear and accessible.
The writing style, however, seems aimed at a younger audience—likely under 19. The prose is straightforward and easy to follow, but at times it lacks the depth or nuance that might keep older readers fully invested. I also found that the pacing dragged in places. By the fourth book, I was more eager for resolution than curious about what would happen next.
There are occasional sex scenes or suggestive moments woven in, presumably to add intensity or maturity. However, in several instances they felt unnecessary and didn’t meaningfully advance character development or plot. Instead of enhancing the emotional stakes, they sometimes came across as inserted for effect rather than narrative purpose.
Solid ending. Wrapped up well. Fans of YA dystopian fiction may enjoy it more than I did.

Book 1 was fun and I really enjoyed it, book 2 was pretty good, I was still in it, but book 3 was unmemorable, and 4 book dragged on so much it was just not enjoyable. I slogged through most of book 4 and then it hit the return date on Libby with about an hour and a half left to listen to and honestly I wasn’t sad at all. I googled the last few plot points and everything was completely predictable so I was relieved to not have to spend any more of my time listening to that book. I wouldn’t recommend anyone embark on this series, knowing how poor the last two books are.

The plot of this series really grabs your attention, there was some parts where I thought it could have used a bit of revision but otherwise overall great series.
