Francisco

After my bad breakup, I’m focused on making my best friend's happily ever after come true, starting with her dream wedding. Nothing will distract me. Not my own loneliness, not my upcoming solo trip to Italy, and definitely not my best friend's hot older brother, no matter how sexy and confident he is. But in a moment of weakness, I ask Kit to come on my trip. And suddenly, I’m spending two weeks with the man I promised my friend I wouldn't get involved with. I have to make sure I guard my heart so it doesn't get broken again. But that's easier said than done when Kit seems so perfect for me.

Kit

I have a reputation of a successful, well put-together man that I’m desperate to maintain, especially after I lose my job and my life falls apart. I have the perfect opportunity to get things back on track at my sister’s wedding. I can be there for my sister, and even better, I get to meet her gorgeous, sweet best friend. No matter what he asks for, the answer is going to be yes. Going on the trip? No problem. Casual vacation fling? Hell yeah. But coming clean about my lies, or committing to more after the trip? That I’m not so sure about.

While We're Here is an open door MM romantic comedy set in Italy. It has pasta. It has gelato. It has opposites attract. It has the best friend's older brother. It has only one bed. And it has a HEA guaranteed (once they get out of their own way).

This feel-good, heartwarming book features two lovable MCs—Francisco, the ultimate romantic high school teacher, and Kit, a big-hearted cinnamon roll. Both are in town for Stella’s wedding, Francisco’s best friend and Kit’s younger sister. Francisco’s nursing a broken heart after his ex cheated, and the two-week Sicily trip he’d planned with his ex is now a solo adventure. On a whim, he invites Kit to join him, and sparks fly.

Kit is secretly struggling after losing his job, while Francisco is battling insecurities from a bad ex. As they embark on this trip, it turns into a journey of self-discovery for both. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the breathtaking Sicilian scenery provides the perfect backdrop for their romance. I adored all the romantic movies Francisco shares with Kit—especially how Mr. Darcy plays such a pivotal role in their relationship. swoon like crazy

I absolutely loved (and envied) that road trip! 🤩 Two weeks in Sicily, indulging in incredible food, wine 🍕🍝🍧🍹, and breathtaking sights? Yes, please! I got so obsessed that I spent hours browsing and daydreaming—almost like I was planning my own trip alongside them! On top of that, it’s super cute, sweet, and sexy as hell! 🔥

“I’m so glad you came with me,” I whisper. He leans over and kisses me on the cheek.
“Me too.”

While the story sticks to familiar romance tropes, it’s sweet, sexy, funny and adorable. That said, I couldn’t help but notice some stereotypes—like the clichés around appearances, social status, and queer identity—which made the characters feel a bit less unique. The writing is simple but captures their connection well. It’s a low-angst, predictable plot that’s still fun, but I wish there was more depth to the characters’ emotional growth.

In the end, Frisky and Kit Kat find exactly what they need: love, family, be themselves and incredible hot sex—until death do them part. 🔥💘 The ending was adorable with the addition of Sheldon. And the bonus story? So funny and so then 🫠🥹❤️

He shakes his head. “No. I had to get everything ready. A good place to live, adequate savings, and most importantly, a job. Then I was going to come to you and show you what I’d done. Like that guy.”
I have my response ready but I stop short with his last comment. “Who?”
“The Darcy guy from the movie.”
“You remember that?”He blushes and rubs the back of his neck.
“I watched it when I was home. And then there was another one that was really long. And I tried to read the book.”
Be still my English teacher's heart. “You watched the movie, the mini-series, and read the book?

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.5 stars

This a quiet, emotional book with two men who want to be in a relationship, but haven’t found the right person or the right time. Francisco thought he found the one, but his ex was a liar and a cheater and the end of that relationship has left him feeling emotionally battered. Kit never allowed himself to be in a relationship. After his parents died, he felt responsible for his sister, and his focus was on advancing his career and having a stable income. Where Francisco is flamboyant and outgoing, Kit is more reserved, and they attempt to balance each other out.

This seemed like it could be an interesting story on paper, but the execution didn’t reach me.

Penelope Bosco is a new author to me, but I was intrigued by the blurb of While We’re Here. Francisco has recently broken up with his longterm partner and is planning the wedding of his best friend, Stella. Kit, Stella’s brother, meets Francisco at the wedding and is drawn to him. Franny invites him on his trip to Italy that he had been planning to take with his ex. While there, they fall in love though both think it will be impossible to sustain in the real world. I really, really liked these two together. The time in Italy was so romantic and sweet. I love how Kit saw Franny for who he really was (and Frisky as a nickname was super cute). I didn’t like how Kit ghosted Franny for almost a month, but it did make sense in the storyline. I am intrigued by Derek and Atlas so I hope that there will be story for those two.

I was doing SOOO good at not requesting too many ARCs and getting overwhelmed and reading them at the very last minute..and here we are. Here's Penelope Bosco's "While We're Here."

Holy. Fuck. I'm obsessed with these two. Obsessed!

It was love at first sight. The instant chemistry was insane. Everyone felt it (even if not everyone was happy about it). Half of Italy saw it, saw the truth between Kit and Francisco before they were ready to admit it to themselves. They both had it bad, but they both had their own reservations and their own baggage holding them back.

Luckily, this is a romance, so a HEA is guaranteed. ;)

I believe this is the first book I have read from this author. Sometimes you just want to read a book without a ton of drama. This book is that, but that is not to say it is boring at all!

Francisco is in the middle of change. He is in charge of helping his best friend with her upcoming wedding and birth of her first child. But he no longer has a partner, and he has a huge overseas trip planned, and things are going wrong left and right with the wedding and through it all the bride's brother is helping out at every turn. He has promised the bride nothing will start between the two of them because she feels they are not a good match. But during a weak moment Francisco invites him on his overseas trip... how can that go wrong?

Kit came home for the wedding with his own life in turmoil. Thinking he was indispensable he thought he could get a raise but instead he is out of a job. Not wanting to put a damper on the wedding he doesn't tell anyone. He is able to help the wedding planner with one issue after another and when he hears about the trip he will be taking alone he somehow gets himself invited. Very early on he realizes this will be a fun trip.

Will the differences between Kit and Francisco be their undoing on the trip? Will Kit be able to help Francisco relax and drop the schedule he has from sun up to down? Will they learn to "adapt" with only one bed while on the trip? What happens after the two weeks are over, will they both return to their respective cities? Will the bride be disappointed in both men for keeping it from her?

Very sweet and sometimes it is nice to not have an all angsty book.

I will read more from this author

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE TROPES!💕

This new to me author blew me away with her writing style and love story!

A broken heart gets mended with the right type of person in the right type of setting- Italy 🇮🇹

This is the poignant, sweet and funny story about Fransisco- an English teacher and hopeless romantic who meets his best friend Stella’s brother, Kit who sweeps him off his feet at her wedding which leads him to inviting this sexy, intriguing stranger on his planned holiday to Italy 🇮🇹

Kit is keeping a heavy secret from his sister which was causing him going into depression until his sisters best friend invited him to spend two weeks in Italy 🇮🇹 with him… and this is where he healed and found himself again with the help of his sweet, sexy nerd- Frisco!

I loved their adventure and all the places they saw together and how swiftly they fell for each other without noticing it although it was only meant to be a holiday fling…🍕🇮🇹🍝or was it? ❤️‍🔥

“Everything we've done has been so intense, so fast, that I have no idea what's normal anymore.”

“My exes would wonder what was wrong with me. I’m wondering that myself.”

The plot line was very interesting, the characters and side characters very special in their support and a certain hermit roommate and bartender intriguing- perhaps we can expect another book?…

A six month later epilogue with a cute surprise followed by a sweet, funny bonus provided by the author!

I voluntarily received a copy from GRR for an honest non biased review.

DNF @ 31%

The MCs were neutral to slightly negative. Francisco felt a bit too fem MC coded honestly with all the almost crying he did at the start. Kit was a bit too ownership claim-y (telling the bartender and waiter to back off from Francisco). The setup almost felt like an MF romance if I'm being honest, but that's probably just because Francisco matches too closely to the timid fem MC stereotype.

The author does the whole "I'm usually not like this, but for some reason MC makes me want to be different even though we've only known each other for like a day" with Kit holding Francisco's hand during the flight while explicitly saying that he didn't do that with old BFs.

I hate it when MCs just randomly decide to change their supposed personalities and justify it with "I don't know why". They should know why or at least the reader should know why, and it needs to be stronger than just "he's sexy/gorgeous". It's a romance for goodness' sake. The "why" is the reason they're falling in love and the whole reason for reading the book.

At that point on the story, Kit only saw Francisco handling his sister's wedding and his loneliness, but that wasn't a strong enough justification for him to suddenly act out of character imo.

Then we get the random ass sex scene after they wake up, with no tension prior or real set up and I basically couldn't read past it.

TL;DR: Didn't like the characters, there wasn't any real tension, set up for the romantic scenes weren't satisfying (or present in the case of the first sex scene)

A Sweet and Heartfelt Opposites-Attract Romance

While We're Here was my first book by Penelope Bosco, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! If you love opposites-attract stories with a dash of best friend’s older brother, this one’s for you.

Francisco is fresh off a bad breakup and throwing himself into planning his best friend Stella’s wedding to keep himself distracted. After the wedding, he’s meant to take a dream trip to Italy—the one he originally planned with his ex. But then he meets Stella’s older brother, Kit, and the attraction between them is instant. In a moment of impulse (or maybe fate), Francisco invites Kit to come along.

Kit, on the other hand, has been quietly struggling. After being laid off from his job, he hasn’t told anyone, and the weight of it has been dragging him down. A spontaneous trip to Italy with Francisco? Maybe it’s exactly what he needs.

Their chemistry is undeniable, and watching them explore Italy together while slowly falling for each other was so sweet. But Kit’s insecurities hold him back—he believes he needs to have his life together before he can fully be with Francisco. Like so many romance stories, what they really need is honest communication.

This book was such a feel-good read—romantic, heartfelt, and full of tender moments. If you love a romance that makes you smile while still tugging at your heartstrings, While We’re Here is definitely worth picking up.

Boob tape, lavender vodka lemonade, cornetti, Frisky, budget, bad lighting, Mr. Darcy

This is a feel good, heartwarming book with two darling MCs. Francisco is a sweetheart and loveable high school English teacher. Kit is a big ole' cinnamon roll. The former lives in Milwaukee, WI, the latter's home is Chicago, IL. Stella is who they have in common. She is Francisco's best friend and Kit's younger sister. Both MCs are in town for Stella's wedding. Oh, by the way, Stella is pregnant with a noticeable baby bump.

Francisco is nursing a failed relationship and they were supposed to go on a 2-week trip to Italy. Francisco is planning on going alone. Unthinking and on a whim, Francisco asks Kit to go with him. Kit agrees. See where this is headed? Yep, it goes there. A good part of the story takes place in Sicily; the rest is in Milwaukee.

High steam accompanies some angst. Wonderful characters round out the cast. This is an enjoyable and satisfying book. I recommend it.

This is the first time that I have read a book by this author. This had th tropes of opposites attract and best friend's older brother. Francisco is getting over a bad breakup by helping to organize his best friend and co-worker Stella's wedding. Afterwards, he is going on a trip to Italy that was supposed to be with his ex. He meets Stella's older brother, Kit, at the wedding and the two are immediately attracted to each other. Francisco impulsively invites Kit along on his trip to Italy. Kit has been depressed since being laid off from his job and hasn't told anyone. He decides to go with Francisco. The two of them are so cute together on the trip and the fall in love but Kit thinks that he has to have his life together in order to be with Francisco. Once again, the two MC's need to communicate their wants and expectations to each other to clear up any misunderstandings. This was a really sweet story that I enjoyed.

If you're into low-angst, sweet-and-steamy new adult romance, you'll enjoy this story. It's a travelogue showcasing intriguing Italian destinations and mouthwatering cuisine. It's about two lost souls finding their connection while on vacation. It's about hurt and shame as much as it's about love and friendship. Fransisco and Kit fall serendipitously into each other's orbit, and everything that happens between them as they embark on their Italian adventure helps them to heal past hurts, rediscover the joy of reconnecting, and fall in love. Fransisco practises spontaneity, while Kit learns work-life balance. The thing that I didn't enjoy was the way the MCs behaved. Too often, they spoke/reacted like young adults barely out of college, still maturing, instead of like the grown men they were. It was jarring.

Francisco & Kit end up spending two weeks together in Italy shortly after a wedding, a trip that Francisco had originally planned to go on with his ex. The trip ends up being much more than either of them had planned on, & although very sweet, it was tough for them to imagine how it could work once back to regular life.

There are a couple of times when it would have been nice to know what Kit said in Italian to someone. For example, we don’t know what Kit told the older Italian woman who was yelling at Francisco, but we didn’t even get a quick summary of this, not even from Kit’s point of view...

Francisco’s ex was a piece of work... ugh...

This was a nice story to read. I enjoyed the descriptions of the various places they visited.

I received this free ARC, and this is my honest review.

What a delightful wonder read. This book is all romance, no drama and no angst, but all heart. Kit and Francisco are thrown together on a holiday for Kit's sister wedding and soon what was supposed to be a holiday fling, feels like more. I love how both were all in on their feelings and despite both avoiding relationships, they forget to tell their hearts that. Fun to watch them accept feeling. And oh did this book make me want to go back to Italy and eat pasta. Two wonderful characters with off the chart chemistry and proof that the way to mend a broken heart is get back in the game and find your soul mate. These two are soulmates. I did receive an ARC and leave this honest review.

This is a new author to me and I enjoyed the writing style and the wonderful characters. I loved the Italian road trip and the author really puts tons of humor into the plot- it an easy and enjoyable read. Once they return from Sicily it kind of lost steam for me as the obligatory third act break up was a bummer and seemed entirely avoidable. The characters are great, the Italian road trip was lovely, and Franny and Kit do find a satisfying HEA. It’s a fun and well written best friend’s brother romance, I rounded up for Sicily and the spice.

This is my first book by this author, so I really debated about whether to give it a try (ARC). There weren't a lot of reviews on her other books, so I was hesitant, but the description was really tempting. Anyhow, GREAT book, cute main characters - I absolutely loved Francisco. Really enjoyed their Italian holiday - all the places they went and all the food they ate. This was just a nice, relaxing, fun read - a good romance between 2 guys who had some realistic issues, but found their HEA in the end.

Here we have two men who are going through something. For Francisco, a recent break-up has him throwing himself into making sure his bestie's wedding is all it can be. For Kit, things in his life are falling apart and he just wants something to be good and it also distracts him from his reality. This is a recipe for two men at a wedding and at loose ends to gravitate towards one another, fall in love and try to mess it up on the way to their happily ever after.

Fransisco gets dumped by his Instagram obsessed boyfriend and throws himself into planning his best friend's dream wedding. Then, he plans to take the couple's Italian vacation he planned on his own. During the wedding weekend, he meets the bride's brother, Kit. Kit is a workaholic forced to reevaluate his life after a layoff. After feeling a growing chemistry between them, Fransisco invites Kit to come along on his trip. I loved this sun soaked love story! What I enjoyed the most is that even though they fell in love quickly, we got to see them figure out their relationship in the real world

Rules, are made to be bent. Francisco and Kit have recent difficulties in their lives. Francisco goes to Italy to attend his best friend, Stella's wedding. Kit, Stella's brother attends also. They bond and have an adventure. They make a few rules and realize they need changes. Fun story, a bit wonky, but fun. Stella and Jeff the newlywed parents are a hoot. Nicely done.
