King of the Embers

Rate this book
The unmissable finale of the Wings and Whispers series! Brimming with romance, sacrifice, heartache, redemption and of course, an epic showdown with impossible odds...

Four souls will reweave the tapestry of fate.
Queen. Saviour. Hero. Aliza almost believes she can be all three, but when the loss of a powerful alliance leaves her people destitute, hope turns to ash. With her people displaced and starving, freedom pales to survival, a prospect that grows bleaker with every step on her shrouded path into the unknown.

Faced with the consequences of his desperate actions, Prince Idris is forced to question not only his choices, but his place in the future he fights for. The tyrant holding Neath in chains must fall, but the real enemy lurks within, and Idris opened the door.

When their quest for answers uncovers a terrible truth, Aliza and Idris must decide whether their love is worth more than a kingdom, but their story was written long ago and choice was only ever an illusion. The final battle looms, and even the fiercest love cannot rewrite destiny.

Where do I begin to even put down how I feel in words, maybe staring with this series was everything. I was swept away into the mesmerizing world of King of the Embers, the stunning finale of the Wings and Whispers series. This journey has been nothing short of remarkable, and I, like so many readers to come I’m sure, wasn’t nearly ready to bid farewell to these enchanting characters.

Aimee's writing has an incredible ability to evoke emotion, and King of the Embers is no exception. Following the subtle hints she dropped during the writing period, I braced myself for tears, but nothing could have prepared me for the tidal wave of feelings that crashed over me as read my way through each chapter. It's safe to say that I experienced several crying outbursts as my mind was fully engulfed in this poignant narrative.

The book was an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Just when I thought I could find solid ground, a character I detested reemerged unexpectedly, sending my heart into a frenzy of fury and frustration. Yet, in a twist of fate, this character redeemed himself in a way that left me both astounded and grateful. Aimee has a masterful way of crafting these complex arcs that keeps her readers on their toes.

But what struck me most was the delicate balance between loss and hope. The story pulls at the heartstrings, resonating with the realities of our world while reminding me of the profound truths found within fiction. As I read, I couldn't help but reflect on how many elements of this beautiful tale mirror the challenges we face outside the pages.

Aimee delivered everything I yearned for in a conclusion, while also gifting me with unexpected twists that shaped my emotional landscape. The growth of each character was exceptional, and the world-building was so vivid as always that I often felt as if I could step directly into its magical realms. The seasons she conjured in her descriptions were nothing short of enchanting.

In 2026, if you're searching for an intricate magical fantasy series that transports you to a world brimming with wonder and complexity, look no further than Wings and Whispers. This series has been a complete immersive experience, one that I will cherish forever. Aimee is undoubtedly a go-to author for me, and I can’t recommend this series highly enough. Prepare to lose yourself in a saga that is all you need—yet offers so much more.

First off, I can’t work out how to give half stars on here as I want to give 3.5!

This was a fantastic series overall and I really enjoyed this book. My only issue was the first half felt very long and slow and I struggled to get into it compared to the other books. the second half was epic and everything you’d want an ending to be!

This was an emotional ride, I cried more than a few times during this book and it was worth every tear shed. There’s loss, hope, redemption, sacrifices. A fantastic story with a perfect HEA that this series deserved. Definitely recommend you read this!

Firstly, a gigantic thank you to Aimee for the eARC of this amazing ending to the Wings and Whispers Series!

This one absolutely put me through the emotional ringer, and I am just so sad to say goodbye to these characters after having read about them from the beginning. When I say that I had tears in my eyes at the 20% mark, just know that this book wrecked me in the best way.

Thank you Aimee for creating characters that are as loveable as these (and a few that we can still throw shade at). I have loved Aliza from the start, as our FMC is a normal human girl from the UK that was thrust into this wild land full of magic and creatures that she had never seen before. Aliza never turns into a warrior queen, and I'm so thrilled that she remains true to herself throughout the series, and is as smart and caring as she was when she first stumbled into Neath.

I love that Aliza puts her trust into the other characters in the story and listens to their counsel (while making a few of her own decisions along the way!) and ensures that the other species' of the realm are heard and respected.

I cried a handful of times in this book, which almost always guarantees a 5 star from me.

This book will be out on KU on January 30! The rest of the series is already on KU, so if you are looking for a completed series, you should totally check this one out!

Its 2:30am and I have just finished this story....

I have read two series by Aimee Clinton and have never been disappointed.

If you want something that takes you along on a journey, that has you experiencing grief, joy, challenges, triumphs, meeting a best friend, and putting the pieces of life together as a puzzle, you need to check out this author.

This series starts as a sleeping beauty retelling and morphs into the challenges a simple girl (woman) faces as she works through a prophecy years in the making, changing the norm and bringing together all walks of life.

Her unique story telling is a mix of Anne Of Green Gables/Lord Of The Rings (how you go through life with Anne or Frodo over many books), a love that defies expectations (think Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon), except this is romantasy (or epic fantasy with romance)!!

*Vampires
*Dragons
*Fated Mates
*Political Intrigue
*Rainbow Hair
*Fae/hybrids/elves/witches
*MFC who doesnt end up being perfect

This story is not like the other fantasy books on the market.

I giggled, I laughed, AND I cried. If an author can make me cry and feel what the characters are feeling/going through, its a great book!

Let me start by saying this was a great ending to the Wings and Whispers series and what a privilege it has been to have been an ARC reader for the amazing Aimee Clinton. This book did not disappoint!

So much turmoil, angst and emotion! The last 25% of the book I was like erm this better be a happy ending or I will riot! A full roller coaster of emotions were felt!

I have loved getting to know the characters, especially Idris and Aliza. They have been a highlight of the series, along with the humour throughout. It is also very refreshing to have an FMC who is quite soft and isn't overpowered or the best, once-in-a-generation fighter trope. Aliza is a great link between human and fae.

This is so close to 5 stars from me but I felt that the first third of the book was a little slow to get into it, and the final battle for Neath seemed to be over quite quickly with a bit of the book left, leaving me worried more shocks were to come (it didn't disappoint!). Luckily everything gets wrapped up well and the character arcs are developed and wonderfully finished off.

Thank so much to Aimee Clinton for an eARC of this book for an honest review.

Well after 4 days of no sleep and constant crying and/or giggling its the end of a traumatic series but i enjoyed every single second of it. It was so easy to fall into this world and the characters. I can honestly say this had me in a choke hold but again it was so worth it even though I have a migraine from the tears...

Aimee really knows how to put a girl through it, she will literally rip your heart out and piece it back together again. Although it took me a while to finish it, it was worth it and the only reason it took me longer than usual is because I really didn’t want this book, series and world to end. I have loved going on this journey with Aliza and I am sad it is over😔
I have never really liked Anwir throughout the series, however what he did had me speechless and didn’t expect it, especially from him. He really warmed my heart but this doesn’t mean I like him now 🙈😂
Idris will forever be in my heart, Idris and Aliza together = power couple!!
This book will have you laughing, crying, warm, cold, angry and everything else you can feel.
I will forever recommend this series and absolutely loved this book what an ending to an incredible adventure!!

King of the Embers is a perfect way to finish this series. It felt so wonderful to return to this incredible world and to characters who truly feel epic and alive.

The romance is beautifully done, balanced perfectly with Aliza’s signature humor and the intensity of an action-packed war. Everything comes together in a way that feels natural and powerful—heartbreaking and wholesome at the same time.

It has been a long while since a book made me cry this hard. This one absolutely did. Aimee Clinton had me sobbing more than once—devastating, but so beautifully written that it only deepened the experience.

The writing is stunning, the emotional impact unforgettable, and I will miss this world more than I can say. Thank you for creating and sharing such a beautiful, meaningful series.

Heartwarming and heartbreaking, this was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster 🎢

ARC REVIEW

Oh my God! I want to forget everything about this book and read it again from the beginning for the first time. It was the best book of the series.

Fights, sacrifices, intimate scenes, dragons, and of course, Jacques. That vampire is one of my favorite characters, along with Indris. The love between Aliza and Indris was truly amazing.

I want to say so many things about this book, but they'll be spoilers, so I won't. I'll just say that the two sacrifices broke my heart. Also, the last chapters were an emotional roller-coaster.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

For me this book took longer for me to get into compared to other books of the series, I just felt it dragged abit at the beginning but I enjoyed it once I got into it.

There definitely wasn't as much banter in this book as there had been previous books which was to be expected but I did still miss it, especially with Jacques.

The ending was for me very predictable, I still enjoyed it but I've noticed it becoming a theme in most of the romantasy books I have read and it's getting a little boring if I'm honest.

Overall though an amazing series that I would recommend to anyone to read.

Wow. I received this as an ARC and I'm so happy I got the chance to read this series. This book was quite the ride. I had many theories of what I thought would happen at the end of this book and they were all proven wrong. I was a sobbing mess by the end of it. Aimee ended this series in such a beautiful way. The plot and characters pull you in and keep you there. You feel all the emotions. All this to say, read this series. You won't regret it.
