When they give him a name, a room of his own, and tell him no one is looking for a missing man, he is awakened to the fact that his new perspective is now a legitimate person; he himself is now the one in this body, not the man he had been before. Antagonized in subtle ways by those same people who saved him, he grows to fear one thing more than any that man who started out as himself, the stranger he can no longer remember, the perspective he can no longer recall.

It's a fun novella that does well to create an atmosphere, though it overcooks it in some passages. Its real strength is in the dialogue which is compelling and brings out the otherwordly nature of all of the characters. It gives strong Flann O'Brien vibes. There is a question I find myself asking early on that undermines an important part of the premise, and although I find a way to answer it for myself based on how the book ends, I feel as though I am helping the book cheat somewhat in doing so.
