Born, raised, and fully immersed in the male-dominated culture of the strictest sect of Judaism, Saul of Tarsus grows from persecuting women to misunderstanding women, to being rescued by women, to frustrating women, to commissioning women, and, finally, to partnering with women. Through his experiences as he follows the bidding of Christ Jesus, he develops beyond his limited vision of the role of women, not only in his life but in the development of the early church.
Through the grace of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle to the Gentiles empowered women to be full participants in the body and to develop their leadership skills through his example. This fictionalized account of Paul’s journey with Christ highlights this important aspect of his ministry, taking us on a tour of the Roman empire in the first century AD, and brings us closer to the source of our joy and hope
I was thoroughly impressed with how Dr. Powell seamlessly blended fiction with non-fiction in this book. The fictional narrative created an engaging and emotional storyline, while the non-fiction elements grounded the plot in real historical events and facts, enriching the overall experience. It was fascinating to see how she wove these two elements together, creating a work that was both imaginative and informative.
The fictional characters felt authentic and relatable, allowing me to connect with their personal struggles and triumphs, while the historical context provided a deeper understanding of the time and place in which the story was set. This fusion allowed me to learn something new while still being emotionally invested in the journey of the characters.
Overall, this book offers a unique reading experience by blending storytelling with factual accuracy. It’s a perfect choice for anyone who enjoys well-researched historical fiction that still allows for creative freedom.
This book was beautifully written! I found it to be a wonderful read! The “fiction” interspersed was very well done and not at all obvious to me. For a first published book the author is a very talented writer. Eagerly awaiting her second book coming later this year! Great job Jenny Powell!!!
Do you enjoy Biblical history brought to life through story? This book chronicles the ministry and missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul. His unwavering faith and willingness to follow the Spirit—despite physical pain, persecution, and rejection—was truly inspiring.
The book is well-researched, and I appreciated that the author included notes in the back matter explaining where she made creative choices to fill in details not found in Scripture.
Dr. Powell chronicles the life of the Apostle Paul from the stoning of Stephen to Paul’s own execution in 65 AD, in a convincing, and entertaining way. I love Biblical fiction, but sometimes am disappointed with the manner in which it is carried out. Author Powell didn’t let me down, and has written a fascinating book here, lively and believable dialogue coupled with a studied understanding of the cultures involved: Greek, Jewish and Roman. She shows a deft hand with the “what ifs” in any fictional presentation. Order this book today, you won’t be disappointed. Les Blain, author of “The Long and Winding Road”
Fascinating read! I find myself wondering if it really played out like this. Thought provoking! Has me examining my walk with The Lord. Excellent job! I can't wait for the next book from this author.
This is a great read! If you are currently studying Acts or Romans, you should read this book coincide with your study. This beautiful piece of work is believable; I can tell Dr. Powell put a lot of thought, time, and research into this work.
