This book is part of Empire of Secrets Series, but it can be read as a standalone.
ANGELO She's a mystery I shouldn't chase, a woman with no past and danger on her trail. I don't save people. I eliminate problems. But something about her makes me want to break every rule I've lived by. She shouldn't make me want things I've buried so deep I forgot they existed. They call me Saint, but saints don't keep kill counts like mine. I know better than to get attached. Because the second her memories return, she'll discover exactly what kind of monster saved her. And I'll have no choice but to let her go.
KASIA I survived whatever they did to me, but I can't remember what they wanted from me in the first place. I only know one thing for certain—I refuse to die on my knees. The man who pulled me from hell is dangerous. Cold. Unforgiving. He claims he wants to protect me, but the memories he’s helping me recover might be what destroys us both. The more I remember, the clearer it becomes—I might just be the real threat.
Jo Preston writes sexy romance books. Sometimes funny, sometimes dark, and sometimes both, whichever way the ADHD wind blows. She lives with her husband, son and a dog (that doubles as a teddy bear) in the UK, where she wraps up in warm clothes and hang out under umbrellas, dreaming of warm destinations. When she's not writing, she enjoys a glass of wine (or two) with a good book or a favourite Netflix show.
Angelo and Kasia (aka Butterfly) absolutely ruined me in the best way possible. This book had me hooked so bad I finished it in one day (RIP to my productivity, but priorities, right?). Before diving in, I even did my homework and reread Ruthless Saint (Dante and Alessa’s story) just to get my heart prepped and wow, was I still not ready.
Jo Preston served us a mafia dark romance cocktail with just the right mix of danger, passion, and emotional chaos. This story had me feeling all the things—my heart was pounding, my eyes were tearing up, and at one point, I swear I was ready to fight for Kasia myself. The love between Angelo and Kasia wasn’t just swoony, it was everything. Rough edges, broken pieces, and all-consuming devotion—that kind of love that feels destructive but also healing.
Now, I’m counting down to Luca’s story like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. If it’s anything like Savage Saint, my poor heart better start training now.
If you like your romance dark, dangerous, and with enough emotional wreckage to make you question your life choices (while still smiling like an idiot), this series is for you.
Kasia has no memories. Doesn't even know her name. Doesn't know the people standing in front of her. Yet now one of them is taking her and the woman away from the gunshots she hears. Now suddenly she's in the man's home being told he'll protect her and he's calling her Butterfly. The only thing she remembers is him finding her and calling him Angel. Angelo (Saint) can't believe he's taken her to his home. Nobody comes to his home. It's his sanctuary. Yet here she is and he can't help but feel protective towards her. Then slowly memories return her name, then she acts on instinct too a shadow that she feels is an enemy. Just who is she. What else can she do. Her actions are natural, easy, she's been professionally trained, but by who. Can she be trusted. But Angelo can't help how protective and caring he feels for her. This is my first time reading Jo's books, but it won't be the last. I can't wait for Luca's story
I've been dying for Angelo's story since we met him in Ruthless Saint, and it did not disappoint!
Jo's writing style makes this emotional story a joy to read, even when there is darkness between the pages. And of course it wouldn't be a J Preston book without some LOL moments thrown in there!
The characters' growth and the blossoming romance between them had me turning the pages unable to wait to find out how things were going to unfold. Angelo and Kasia's story isn't an easy read, it's dark and it's heartbreaking but it's theirs and I am honoured to have followed them as they both battled with their own demons, realising that together they are indestructible!
And we got to see more of our beloved Dante and Alessa! I can't wait for more from these characters 😍😍
Book 2 of the Empire of Secrets series. Can be read as a standalone.
'Perfect for readers who crave dark mafia romance with amnesia, lost identity, touch-her-and-die protectiveness, a possessive mafia boss, forced proximity, and an unexpected, all-consuming love that pulls them into a found family and a brutal underworld they’re willing to burn down together.'
The characters were very complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!
Grab a copy, kick back and enjoy!.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another amazing book in this series. I can't believe that I have to wait until July for the next installment!!!!!!
I really am a sucker for a hardened, tortured soul MMC and a badass FMC. This book delivered on both! It was amazing to watch them both come to a point of acceptance of their darkness as well as feel hope for their future together.
This was dark, swoonworthy, and I found my self pulled into this roller coaster with full on cheerleader pompoms rooting for them!
Series: 2nd book but can be read as standalone. HEA: yes Spice level: 3.5 🌶
This was such a rollercoaster ride. A wild one at that. But I was all about this ride. This was dark with amazing twists and turns. The chaos, the intensity, just amazing. I was so pulled in by this one, I devoured it in one day. These two were made for each other. I can’t wait to read the next one. This is a definite must read if you haven’t already.
I couldn't have been happier with this book. I absolutely adored the relationship between Kasia and Angelo. I feel like this was the perfect continuation of the series as well.
Angelo may have saved Kasia but shes an unknown quantity especially when she doesnt remember much herself, but as conmection forms between then her memories returning might just be their undoing. Well written engaging steamy desires dark themes twists a great addition to the series
