Cold Hearted

At twenty-seven years of age, Cáel Darcie — African American, beautiful, fashionable, honest, and ambitious — liked where she was in her life. She owned a beautiful little condo in Las Vegas, a gleaming new car, and had a great job and loving boyfriend.

But everything changes when life takes an unexpected turn. Cáel learns she is pregnant and she’s deserted by her boyfriend when she refuses an abortion. She faces the question — What now? She chooses to live a brave life that honors what she believes in. This unfurls a series of events leading up to a horrible accident. Or, was it?

Cáel wakes up from coma to find that she has no memory of her life whatsoever or the events that led to her condition. Helped by her friends Amanda and Christopher, Cáel slowly tries to get her groove back, but soon realizes that everything is not what it seemed. Her ex-boyfriend Michael was dead, and there were pieces missing in the whole puzzle.

Why had Michael been in Las Vegas?

Was it really a random, freak accident? Who was lying?

Cáel strives to connect the dots in her fragmented memories, a quest that takes her from Vegas to Texas, to Florida, and then back to impending danger lurking around the corner. Fast paced and emotionally charged, Cold Hearted is a novel about love, hate, deceit, and the darkness of the fickle human mind.

Naghilia Desravines

Naghilia rose from overwhelming poverty and racism to become the head of a successful company and the founder and executive director of a national company called WomELLE.

Seemingly overnight, Naghilia built an organization that provides mentorship and business services to more than 300 businesswomen.

A dynamic, brilliantly creative businesswoman, Naghilia was raised by a grandfather who instilled strong family values, great empathy, and the importance of caring for others. He also taught the importance of education to help break the poverty cycle. Naghilia transformed herself from a young, uneducated girl to a businesswoman striving to achieve a PhD in psychology and becoming the founder of WomELLE, Corp.

Naghilia spent her early years helping her mother’s business grow and caring for her younger brother and sister. Even while young, she was already a savvy businesswoman with a business mindset. In 2006, Naghilia started SFL Cleaning Services, a residential and business cleaning company, with money she had saved. SFL Cleaning Services quickly grew with 250 clients and more than 25 employees.

While doing double-duty as a mom, she started WomELLE in 2016 to help small business women, startups, and “mompreneurs” – who shared the same frustrations and limitations – to build successful businesses.

As her business expanded, Naghilia noticed that a growing number of WomELLE clients needed other businesswomen as inspiration and how important it was to provide a publication dedicated to inspiring women in business. Through this experience, Naghilia debuted her WomELLE Magazine in 2017 as a print and digital publication focusing on women in business and leadership. In 2020, she changed the name to WomLEAD Magazine, and it evolved to another media platform by publishing engaging and insightful content on the womleadmag.com website.

Naghilia has a bachelor’s degree in homeland security, a master’s in psychology, and an MBA in global business management. She is the author of two other books, including the bestseller Women Leaders With Inspiring Stories and Cold Hearted, a novel.

The first novel from Naghilia Desravines takes us on a journey
through, Cáel's (the protaganist) coma caused memory loss, as she
searches to regain her life and find out what really happened to her
now deceased boyfriend.

We enter the story with Cáel in some type of accident and comes to
after a coma that has claimed all her memories, even those of her
family and friends. As she regains flashes of her life in bits and
pieces, each day brings her closer to the love and heartbreak she must
endure all over again.

I'd perhaps change a few word choices and maybe shorten or lengthen a
few chapters, but overall this is a solid first novel. I look forward
to reading more from this new author.

My personal guide for star ratings are as follows: 5 stars, equal to
best book I've read in a long time, highly recommended; 4 stars, no
major complaints, well written; 3 stars, either format or typos
impaired my reading flow however, the foundation for a good book is
here; less than 3 stars, I struggled with this book, either
format/typos were too great or the concept/foundation of the book did
not fit my taste. It doesn't mean you won't like the book, if it
sounds like something you'd like, then you should see for yourself.

I won this book from a contest on Goodreads.

Twenty-seven year old Cael Darcie is the public relations manager with Delta Airlines and is also taking a psychology course at University. She lives in Las Vegas while her Mother and siblings live in Florida. One fateful day an accident takes place which put Cael in a coma for ten days to wake up in a hospital with no memory of anything at all. Now she is alone and pregnant and her boy friend, Michael Chan, has apparently been accidently shot and killed by Michael's good friend Chris' roommate. When she got back to her condo, she noticed that there was nothing of Michael's belongings at all, not even a picture. When she confronted her best friend Amanda, and Mike's friend Chris, they both explained to Cael that when Michael learned of the pregnancy, he wanted her to have an abortion. But when Cael refused, they broke up. She decided to take time to visit her Mother and there in the attic she found letters she had kept that Michael sent to her each and every day while at war of his undying love for her. Is this the same man who wished to do away with his own child? As time progressed, fragments of her life began to return and she knew there was something terribly wrong with the accident and their break-up and so much more! She needed to get to the bottom of this if not for her unborn child, for her own sanity!

Cold Hearted is a gripping novel about one woman’s journey to regain her memory after a night with friends goes tragically wrong. The novel opens with the after effects of an incident in which an innocent man loses his life. Cael, the main character, is forced to embark on a mission to regain her memory in order to determine what happened that fateful night.
Through a series of seemingly unrelated events, as well as with the help of beloved family and friends, Cael comes to discover a hidden truth about people she knew and loved as well as people she thought she knew. As she delves deeper into the mystery she unravels a plot fueled by anger and jealousy, which helps bring the book to its stunning conclusion that perfectly sets up the upcoming sequel to Cold Hearted to continue the story of Cael and the destiny she faces at the hands of a loved one’s friend who turned out not to be a friend at all.

Cold Hearted is a spicy page turner that will have you yearning for more. I found myself staying up to the wee hours of the morning just to read the book and went to work thinking about what may happen next and what will I be learning next about Cael. Definitely a book to pick up!I certainly enjoyed Naghilia writing style this time around. I find "Cold Hearted" to be one of her best suspense book written. I highly encourage readers who likes a novel with a twist to read this book, it will capture you from the beginning to the very end. You wont be disappointed.
