Simi Chopra #2

'Til Heist Do Us Part

Rate this book
Length: 11 hours and 18 minutes

Diamond necklaces, billionaires, Mafia bosses, and student loans—it’s all in a day’s work for Simi Chopra and her ragtag heist crew in the next romantic-comedy caper from Sara Desai.

It’s been a year since Simi Chopra’s motley crew pulled off a high-wire diamond necklace heist with the help of sexy rogue Jack Danger. After living it up on the reward money, they're back where they started, struggling to pay their bills. So when a Chicago Mafia boss demands they return the jewels—plus interest, or else—they need to get the team back together…and fast.

Unfortunately, Simi soon discovers that the necklace is in the hands of Jack's nemesis, a highly-skilled and supremely vengeful master thief who is not above a little blackmail to get even. (Did Jack really have to piss her off?) Now, the crew is forced into her working her con in order to get the necklace back.

As if Simi needed any more complications while trying to rob a billionaire’s mansion, she and Jack are on the rocks, someone else is after her score, and a gorgeous detective is hot on her tail. Simi better be careful or she’ll end up in the less fun kind of handcuffs.

I need to stop reading these out of order. No worries, it was still fun.

Simi is a reluctant crew leader who is still infatuated with Jack. A tad cliché, but his full name is Jack Danger. And he is dangerous.

They are trying to pull off the con of their lives, while still maintaining that they are the "good guys." There is betrayal from a non-obvious angle. There is a double betrayal from a very obvious angle. While not riveting, this still amused.

It was such a fun ride! I've only read one book prior to this that including underground networks or thieves doing heists. So it was fun to read this one! I'm not going to lie, Simone was entertaining from her rich and snooty bits but her funny fashion things as to why she wore what brand to the warehouse and helped them scout. Simi and Jack are just so much. Their back and forth truly made this so much more worthwhile. I believed they were great together, and from the beginning, I was hoping (with Jack) that'd it would happen again for them to be together! Gage is the muscle and sexy/tough. All of the key players in this truly had their own parts and personality that together made this such a fascinating ride. I'm not going to lie. Bits of this made me STRESSED during the Heist and other situations, but I loved every moment of it. I was kept on the edge of my seat, hoping for the best but stressing and preparing for the worst. Such a great read!

I received this ARC from NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group to read/review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.

I had so much fun with this book and this series overall... when I think about rom com books this is the type of books that come to mind.... shenanigans, a group of very different individuals but very much likable and heist as a storyline... I wouldn't mind more books with these characters.... and of course, seeing Jack and Simi finally being in a relationship...
Light and fun read... Def recommend it audiobook was great too...

Book 2 of Sara Desai's Simi Chopra series. This series is contemporary romance with some action, adventure, mystery and suspense. Each book is focused on the most likable and unlikely heist crew you'll ever come across.

It was fun to revisit these characters and get sucked into another high stakes heist with this motley crew. There is a lot of competition and backstabbing in the caper world and Jack finds himself up against his ex who is out to best him and possibly kill him. With their relationship in tatters, and old rivals looking to even a score, Jack and Simi must get the crew back together to retrieve a diamond necklace.

Full of witty banter, action and the funniest heist crew that will steal your heart with their fierce loyalty this series is definitely one I recommend if you enjoy books like Finley Donovan by Elle Cosimano or Jesse Q. Sutanto's Aunties series.

I thought "To Have And To Heist" was a fun and silly romp. The sequel feels a bit... I don't know, meaner?
The crew feels kinda broken rather than merry band of misfits-- Rose doesn't appear at all, Cristian is barely present and even more of a dick instead of kinda charming dick in the first one and Anil is
There's also some really weird phrasing at times like "Anil looked more twenty-one than twenty-six years old." (Is there a significant difference?)
My one complaint that was resolved was that Jack is with the crew more often so he feels more part of things. But his romance with Simi still feels like it has similar issues to book one of her coming to him with legitimate concerns and complaints and he just sweet talks her or they end up having sex instead of addressing the issue. Yeah, he's got trauma and stuff that hinders him developing healthy relationships with others. The problem is he doesn't seem to be remotely interested in addressing those issues. Even at the eleventh hour, he's still trying to It just pisses me off and makes it hard to invest in their romance, and his weird, second-person POV chapters at the beginning and near the end didn't help.

By far of the worst heist books ever. Where were the details?? The Gotchya moments?? The teamwork?? Disappointed.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

Main Themes Of This Story:
- Second chances
- Mission impossible
- Supportive BFF
- Realistic
- Lovable characters
- Banter 💯💯💯
- Adventure
- Mystery/Crime

What I Loved: Tons of crime, mystery, and drama in this book! Absolutely loved it, not only for the plot, but the most lovable characters. Sara Desai swiftly creates a compelling story that keeps you wondering who did it until the end. There was so much sexual tension, intense conflict, and a shocking ending to the plot. Let’s not forget a great push at the end for the next book which I am excited for. She definitely did not spare any steaminess for another day in this book, there was plenty to go around.

What I Didn’t Like:
There was a part in the book a jump from ch. 26 to 27, I feel that it left out some of the story. But then I see it all come together. Although this is done in television, I think in books it just leaves the mind to imagine what happened and this did not sit well with me because of it being a crucial moment in the book.

Good/Bad Ending: Great ending with hint of next book in series

Best Chapter: 29 😅

Vibes: Fast and Furious (Movie), Bonnie & Clyde, Sopranos (TV Show), Sons of Anarchy (TV Show), We’re The Millers (Movie)

Additional Thoughts: Keep in mind that this book is not a stand-alone read, but can be read as a stand-alone in my opinion because I did not read the first book in the series. at the start of the book I was confused but was able to put two and two together because of the writers ability to tell the story well without needing to have read the first book in order to understand this story.

Special thanks to the Publisher and the Author for providing a complimentary digital Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this novel via NetGalley. This is my fair, honest, and personal review. All opinions are mine alone and were not biased in any way.

Til Heist Do Us Part
Author: Sara Desai

The perfect, fun, thriller x romcom read. Thank you so much Netgalley and Berkley for the ARC! This is Book #2 of the Simi Chopra series and it picked up right where the first one left off. Simi and her crew stole some jewels in the first book and have run out of money after spending all of the winnings. A mafia boss shows up demanding payment for the stolen goods. Also, Simis now ex boyfriends Jacks nemesis appears to be who now has the jewels in hand. This book had all the twisty, fun aspects of a mystery but it was a romance which I loved. It was also pretty funny and I feel like there aren’t enough books written like this. Please drop more thriller romcoms in the comments if you have some to reccomend! I liked this book more than the first, but I do recommend you read them in order. I’m looking forward to more adventure of Simi and Jack and I hope she continues this series. 🔎🕵️❤️

Desai delves back into the world.of amateur thieves for the follow up to To Have and to Heist. Most of the crew has squandered the money they got last time. Not only that, but Simi has broken it off with Jack after he left the country and stayed gone for 8 months! But now the Mafia boss they stole the necklace from last time and figured out it was them and demands he get it back, plus interest. Simi has no choice but to bring the crew back together and loop Jack in for his expertise. And Jack wants her back, but Simi has been burned before. This fun amateur heist story will keep you guessing...and laughing!

I think I liked the first one better than this one. I'm not sure zany heists work for me in a series? But the ridiculousness of this one reminded me of Finlay Donovan.

Going into this book, I was excited, as I'm always up for an Adventure Romance.  And this one does not miss a beat, with non-stop action pretty much from beginning to end.  But it was almost had too much for me.
I will back up by saying that going into this, I wasn't aware that this was part of a series (Goodreads doesn't indicate it as such), with To Have and to Heist being book one in the series.  The author did a good job of catching me up to speed with the couples featured in the book, but there are a lot of characters, each with their own side story.  So, it was a lot to take in.  Then you add all the action from this book, and my head was spinning.

As the title suggests, this book features some characters who make a living stealing valuable items.  Unsurprisingly, this is a competitive field and for the main character Jack, he is constantly trying to one up his rival, Clare (who he just so happens to have had a prior relationship with).  There is a lot of backstabbing and deception to try and get on top.  But Jack isn't on his own, and her cast of characters all play a significant role in the heist.

There is also a romantic element sprinkled in (not with Clare, to be clear), but it is a small part of the story.  And those brief moments actually seemed like the calmest part of the storyline.

Overall, while this book was entertaining, I would have pared down the sub plots from some of the characters, that made the story a bit overwhelming.

Read Completed 8/30/24 | 3.25 stars

I really enjoyed TO HAVE AND TO HEIST when I read it last year so I was really excited for another fun adventure with Simi and the gang! Unfortunately, right off the bat, it hit things I didn't like in sequels. I really, really, really don't like when a sequel starts off with the couple from book 1 breaking up and now they're apart. I really wanted to see Simi and Jack working together and growing their relationship, not it having already ended and her hating him and not trusting him. It was just a turn off for me and I wanted more connection.

The crew took a while to show up and they were just less vibrant than in the last book. They were always a little quirky, edging on over-the-top but it didn't make me feel that way in Book 1. This book just felt like caricatures of who they were in the first book and I feel like it just got sillier. I also don't know why Rose was totally left out of this book? I kept expecting her to show up but she never did. Maybe that's Book 3.

I really didn't like the heist this time. It was veering into Stephanie Plum territory where everything is zany and kooky and it just went too far. (Also why I stopped enjoying Finlay Donovan.) I just didn't click with the plot and I didn't like that the characters were basically ALL on the outs. I wanted the found family, the fun friendships. This wasn't it.

I'm sure I'll still read a book 3 if there is one but I was a little disappointed with this.

Simi Chopra and her team must retrieve a stolen diamond necklace from Jack Danger’s vengeful nemesis to appease a Chicago Mafia boss. Amidst this high-stakes mission, Simi grapples with relationship troubles, a rival thief, and a determined detective, making her heist even more perilous.

Til Heist Do Us Part is a sequel to To Have and To Heist, even though it’s not listed as such on Goodreads. To truly enjoy the book and understand the dynamics of Simi and Jack’s relationship along with the quirky side characters that make up the ragtag heist crew, it helps to have read the first book, as they frequently reference their initial heist. The romance here is more of a subplot. Despite its unrealistic elements, I found the book wildly entertaining and binge-worthy. I loved that the author continued to deliver amusing antics and funny characters. However, I didn’t care much for Simi and Jack’s second-chance romance, as I felt Jack's character development was lacking. I wished for more perspectives from Jack to understand him better. Overall, I found this to be an entertaining read and recommend picking it up if you enjoyed To Have and To Heist!

I absolutely adored this book! After being obsessed with Jack and Simi's chemistry and banter in the first book, I was so excited to read the second one. It was so much fun to follow their rollercoaster of a relationship through their second heist together. There were so many moments between them that had me kicking my feet and squealing.

The adventure of the heist and all the silly shenanigans the crew got into putting it together created both hilarious and heartfelt moments I loved. The story easily follows several different dynamics within the friend group and made me feel like a part of the story with Simi.

Throughout the story, I looked forward to the heart-pounding moments of vulnerability between Simi and Jack. I love how he spends the whole heist trying to take care of her and support her even though they disagree on his methods of protecting her. His swoon-worthy declarations of love definitely raised my standards. I'm so obsessed with how adoringly he treats Simi.

I am so excited for the next book! I can't wait to see what Jack and Simi get into next.

Five out of five stars.

Set one year after the previous book, Simi finds herself back in Jack's orbit and tasked with pulling off another heist with her ragtag team.

I wasn't as invested in this story compared to the first book, To Have and To Heist but this was still entertaining if you're into corny and fun romcom thrillers.

Another over the top romantic suspense from fav Canadian author, Sara Desai. I am so here for Sara's switch to mad cap rom coms set in Chicago. This latest has a second chance, interracial romance, kidnappings, heist crews, found family, fake deaths, fake funerals, TONS of near-death moments, spice, humor and a big, close-knit Desi family. Throw in some mob bosses, exes, motorcycle gangs, serial killers and MORE and this book was high octane fun from start to finish with shocking twists and exciting times that never stopped. Great on audio narrated by two other favs, Soneela Nankani and Andrew Eiden. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and @prhaudio for a complimentary ALC in exchange for my honest review!

3.5 ⭐️ - The first chapter felt like too big of a fast forward. I wanted at least a bit of Simi and Jack together and happy. I generally dislike proposals at the end of books but I guess with this title it was kind of a given.

3.5 rounding down.

It doesn't seem like you have to read the previous book (To Have and To Heist) but I highly recommend reading that before tackling this one. Some things wouldn't make as much sense and you'd miss out on a lot of fun.

I think I enjoyed the first one the best, but 'Til Heist Do Us Part still had that comedic flair and pulse-racing heist moments. It wasn't as connected and... realistic? (even though none of this is realistic but still) compared to the first; I think the heist and the capers in this book were fun, but they felt quick. I wasn't as invested as I had been before, and I'm not sure why.

That said, it was very interesting to read, and I struggled to put the book down once I had gotten into it. While I did start the book not looking forward to the relationship drama, I was still rooting for the two by the end.

Some of the characters didn't make much sense and I wish there was a bit more group cohesion - I hate continuing to refer to the first one, but the crew felt more together - and I saw the plot twist coming because one character had literally no purpose unless there was a twist. (Actually, I was prepared to complain about the character until I made it to a specific point, and while it wasn't as clean and built up, I was glad something happened)

The heist was fun, the characters were funny, and the romance (though closed-door) was sweet.

thank you Netgalley for the arc

This was an e-ARC so first off, thank you so much to Sara and her team for allowing me to read this book before it is out to the public! I am so honored because this was my first time getting an ARC.

Having said that, I feel like I would’ve maybe liked it more if I had read the first book “To Have and To Heist” first to get to know the characters better. My favorite character in THIS novel however was Emma, which I don’t think she’s supposed to be anyone’s favorite so read into that how you will. Simi and Jack, in my opinion, are the epitome of a relationship that needs adrenaline and adventure in order to be sustained. Their lust for each other during really inopportune moments was kind of irritating to me. They would be in the middle of making an important decision for the heist and then Jack and Simi would be distracted, wanting to get it on right then and there.

Speaking of the heist plot, I don’t understand how this crew got anything done when they would argue for 20 minutes about the plan every single time. I understand they’re a “rag tag” team but come on guys. They got lucky 90% of the time and didn’t really do much themselves.

I did however enjoy the banter throughout the friend group and the found family they created. I definitely didn’t see the plot twist at the end coming and my jaw was on the floor! For my first heist romance book, I enjoyed myself but it also took me a long time to read because I wasn’t fully locked in till around 50% of the way through.

Thank you again to Sara and her team, and I hope to get another chance to read an ARC in the future!

After their memorable and chaotic first heist, life has not gone as smoothly as Simi and the crew had hoped. All of them have used up their money and opportunity and are basically back to where they started. But when the brother of the mob boss they put in jail comes to Simi threatening revenge the crew must come together once again. With Jack back in town and his ex Clare part of the heist, Simi must confront her relationship with Jack. Will they be able to pull off the heist and get back in the Mob’s good books?

With laugh out loud characters and unending entertainment this crime romance made my heart so happy!

jack and simi are no longer talking because he’s travelling all over the world for his work. he’s constantly unable to be there for simi. when mr. angelini entered simi’s business requesting the wild heart necklace back, simi knew that she needs to gather her crew again. half the time, jack and simi are just being horny with one another but simi refused to fully fall for him because of how absent and secretive have been. the other half, they are meeting new people who are either after their lives or chasing after the love of their lives. it’s all very unrealistic but fun all the same.

Enjoyable, but not as good as the first book. The chemistry between the characters was missing and I'm not just talking about the chemistry between Jack and Simi, although even that was more told, rather than shown. (And Garcia's character was barely even a distraction this time around.) I did enjoy Simone, at least, and Dad's threats against the mob. The hijinks were there, but a little more ridiculous than the first book. All this is to say that the parts I enjoyed from the first book weren't as prevalent in the second book, so it ended up falling short for me.

Another fun caper featuring Simi and the Crew. Just like book one in the series, I struggled to know how to rate this one. Jack and Simi's chemistry was better in this one, and Olivia was written more age appropriate. There was also one twist I did not see coming.

But, I missed Rose in this outing, still disliked that Jack's chapters are 3rd person POV, and felt left down by Garcia's arc.

However, I still had a ton of fun reading this one with my main online book club, so landed at 4 stars again. I hope we get a 3rd installment in this series since the final chapter left the possibility open. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the return of Rose.

This was so much fun!! Honestly, I haven’t read too many books with a heist as the central plot point, but wow do I want to read more now. I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. Simi and Jack’s banter and chemistry is truly what made this book shine for me though. It was absolutely delicious and I could not stop giggling and kicking my feet!

P. S. This could totally be read as a stand alone because I had no idea there was another book 💀

I really liked this one more than the first. There was alot more romance in this one. Alot of swoon worthy moment. Some very steamy moments. But in the same book, so many laughs. Some chapters all I did was laugh.

Loved the returning characters and a few new ones. Really missed one in particular though.
