Years of training are about to pay off for hockey player Nikola Vereshkova. A call to play in the big league means he can finally come through for those who need him. His relocation to Chicago comes with built-in friends – and one gorgeous enemy who was less than impressed with him after their first encounter.
Sadie Alexander knows all about the drastic measures men will take just to get laid. She’s not only experienced it first-hand, but lived to tell about it in her online column, Sadie Says. And even though she’s a die-hard independent woman on the outside, the recent marriage of her best friend has her secretly feeling more alone than ever.
Getting close to a foul-mouthed Russian hockey heartthrob was the last thing Sadie expected. And the timing couldn’t be worse since she’s sworn off of men for a writing assignment. The line between love and hate is eroding, and Niko and Sadie find themselves in deeper than they ever expected. Could something that started out wrong end up being just right?

FOUR HOT RUSSIAN STARS.

"you're gonna get me in trouble, but fuck if it won't be worth it."

description

If like me you are a huge fan of a sports themed romance then you do not want to miss out on Brenda Rothert's 'Fire on ice' series. Right from the beginning of this series I was hooked on this authors style of writing and every book I've read since has continued to deliver. Are you looking for a new NHL hockey star to fall in love with? Well look no further because yet again this author has delivered the goods with a hot, Russian hockey star who definitely caught my attention. Anyone who loves a fast paced, sexy, well written romance story will do no wrong with reading this novel, in fact I'll be a little down hearted if Mrs Rothert decides to finish this series simply because I just can't seem to get enough of her rough and tough hockey heroes.

What's it all about?
For Sadie Alexander love and commitment seems like a far away, distant dream. Failing to be lucky in love and having a string of disastrous dates leads this headstrong beauty to make a decision to go dateless for 60 days in the hopes that she can find happiness standing on her own two feet. Russian hockey player and playboy, Nikola Vereshkova has always been focused on his dreams he wants to succeed and become the hockey star that will ensure that he is able to look after himself and his poverty stricken family. What he has never been interested in or had time for is a committed relationship but then he meets the fiery, take no prisoners journalist and she instantly grabs hold of his attention. Neither of them willing to give into the temptation of each other a friendship is formed but soon enough feelinga start to get in the way and they both have to make room for love to grow. But with indecision and insecurities in the way Sadie and Niko are both unsure if they are able to have what they both desire. Follow the fantastic story of one addictive Russian hero and a sassy journalist in the latest from Brenda Rothert and her fire on ice series, I don't think I'll ever tire of this authors sports related romances and 'Drive' was just the book to feed my much needed fix.

description

What did I love?
Firstly I think it's well worth mentioning that this author always plays it well with her cover choices, and if you are asking me if that makes a difference? My reply would be, yes. The outside of this novel is just as tempting as what's inside and I don't mind admitting that I'm a reader who can't resist falling into cover lust. That being said the cover of this book is just the icing on the cake because Brenda Rothert is an author who puts the sexy into sports. Nothing appeals to me more than a hero who is just as sweaty as he is sexy and this time around Rothert has created a Russian hockey playing God who was all parts sexy and as a bonus had a big heart to go with all his alpha, hero ways. As you can imagine it was love at first chapter and it only got better as the book developed. I loved the relationship between Sadie and Niko they had a great balance of banter and sexual tension between them and I loved how they didn't just fall straight into getting down and dirty with each other. The storyline and plot was played out well and although it wasn't the most original of romance stories my attention was never elsewhere. I really enjoy a story where the main characters try to avoid their feelings for each other no matter the cost and I think the author played on that side of the story telling well. The sexy times were scrumptious and if you like your romance to be this side of erotic then I can assure you, you won't be disappointed my heart rate had more than just one work out reading this story and by the end I was convinced that true love belonged in this authors story line.

description

Why not five?
As you can tell from my near on gushing review thoughts that I'm a fan of this author. I really love her story telling, characters, fabulously naughty erotic writing ability and this series is undoubtably fantastic.
However, I didn't have that urge or full conviction that this was a five star story. Everything was included to make it a 'made for Lisa' novel but it didn't have than unforgettable feeling that a five star book leaves me with, instead I had a great time with a book that is worthy of lovers of this genre reading and after all a four star rating in my eyes is a book worth celebrating.

Final thoughts ...
This is the only series I've read by this author and I can only say I don't know why because Brenda Rothert creates contemporary romances that suit my tastes perfectly. This authors stories are not just all about the sexy they always have a great story line too and I'm just about ready to kick myself that I haven't read other series by this talented author. 'Drive' is a novel that I easily read in one sitting and it was certainly a book that had me glued to my kindle until I'd reached the finishing line. If you enjoy a book that has tantalising sex scenes with heart felt romance at the centre then you do not want to miss out on this Russian style love story, as for me I'm sincerely hoping that Rothert has many more Fire on ice stories up her sleeve because I'm certifiably addicted to this series. This book is already available for fellow addicts to one click and I think it goes without saying that I'm fully convinced that established fans of this series will fall head over for this book but for those that have not started this series yet you are in for a real hockey style treat. Enjoy readers, kisses.

Sweet Jesus was this a swoon-worthy story!

A snarky, smart, sassy, sexy writer (Sadie) who has a heart-breaking past, which leaves her scared to really need someone, and a big, muscular Russian stud-muffin new-to-the-NHL hockey player (Niko) who changes his man-whore ways for a woman he can't live without? Sold! What a funny, sexy, emotion-packed story--it even had me tearing up at the end. Brenda Rothert hit it out of the park with this one. I've been reading this whole series (bought the five book bundle ) and each book is better than the last. Can she top Drive with Release? I dunno...Niko and Sadie are one of my favorite couples of my reading year...so we'll see.

Brenda Rothert is a new author for me, and I'm liking what I've read so far. I just might have to check out the rest of her catalogue. This lady can write! Her characters are multi-dimensional, her plotting is superb, her love scenes are hot, and I end up hanging on her every word. I can't put these books down! Reminds me a lot of Sawyer Bennett--if you've read her Cold Fury series and enjoyed it, you might want to check out this Fire on Ice series.

Another winner from Miss Rothert. Drive is emotional romance story. Both Niko and Sandi suffered lost and hardship growing up. Both were not looking for love.
Their chemistry is explosive.

I enjoy their journey discovering their true feeling. It reminds me of Sawyer Bennet hockey romance series but better.

This series of books about hot hockey players and their women is fantastic and should be read at the first one click opportunity. This is Niko and Sadie' s story and may possibly be the best yet. They are all 5 star reads. The writing is gorgeous. The story flows and grips you from the first page. Brilliant characters and I love the way we revisit previous couples but they don't take over the story. The focus is very much on the main couple. Great story. Hot passion. Lots of emotional . A really lovable hero and heroine. It all just works beautifully. I would love to hear Orion's story next.

Re-Read September 2018. Still love this series! Still a five star read.

Re read January 2024
Excellent narration by Kirsten Leigh & Chris Ruen.

This series really does stand the test of time and is a go to comfort read for me. Ice hockey romance with a really likeable H/h.

Hockey Love

My sweet Russian. I love how Ms Rothert introduced him in this book. Had me laughing my ass off.

I love being able to pick up this series and enjoying it from front to back. Now if BR would create a hockey player who also loves "words with friends"!!!
LOL.

This is Niko's and Sadie's story. We first met Niko in Edge, but didn't really know him. As soon as Niko was first described in this book, I was in love with him. There is a lot of sexual tension between Niko and Sadie. They are both resisting each other, but for different reasons. They have great chemistry and I loved the banter between them. I laughed. I cried. I got pissed off. But in the end, it all worked out.

I'm not quite sure what happened. I read the first 3 books of this series as well as another book by this author and loved them all. But then I think I forgot to buy more or something as the author kind of fell off my radar. Big mistake that one. Thankfully I stopped the fall and brought her back on board. I loved this book!

Nico Vereshkova and Sadie Alexander first meet in a hotel. She is there as she's the maid of honor for her best friend Dell, the heroine in the third book of this series. She sees Nico who is drop dead gorgeous and a Russian who can barely speak English. She's immediately attracted and he asks to see her again in very broken English. But. Things are not as they seem when he is SO busted when it turns out he's a groomsman at the same wedding. The groom is a hockey player and was the hero of the previous book. I'm going to have to reread the book as I read it a while ago and didn't do a review. And I really want to do one as I love this series. Sadie sees Nico speaking English just fine with only a hint of an accent and realized she's been played and she's less than impressed with him, hot Russian or not.

Fast forward a few months and Nico has been promoted to the big leagues, something he's been hoping for desperately. He grew up poor and wants to support his parents and the rest of his family who sacrificed so much for he and his career. Dell is a trainer on the team and Luke, her now husband, one of the players. Because Sadie, our heroine, and Dell are such good friends, she and Nico end up in the same orbit. And while there is still wild attraction between the two of them, there are major hurdles. He's a real player, never dating the same girl twice and she knows this so isn't about to give into the attraction. And nico has been warned away by Luke who is very fond of his wife's best friend and knows that Nico is a 'love 'em and leave 'em' kind of guy and doesn't want to see him hurt Sadie. But as Sadie and Nico slowly get to know each other, true feelings develop.

It's kind of funny. I recently read another hockey romance where the hero was a real man whore and I didn't like it at all, but this one I really liked. I think it's because even though nico was also a man whore, he respected Sadie more than the hero of the other one. Also, nico really does try and honor Luke's request that he not put the moves on Sadie. Instead they become friends first and mutual respect. I didn't feel that with the other one.

I really wish they had half stars here as this deserves more than a four. But I'm trying to be a bit stricter on fives.
I do give this book a happy an d well deserved recommendation.

Sadie Alexander was everyone’s favorite babysitter! Kids loved her. and she had a really great group of friends, but she didn’t have that important man in her life. And, sadly she has a past that she keeps mostly to herself. Only a few chosen people knbow her sad tragic past. She’s a beautiful young woman with such a caring heart, but she suffers from loneliness.

Nikola Vereshkova is some hard-working hugely muscular hockey player. He’s larger than life and deserves to be playing pro hockey. But, at the moment he’s stuck in the minor leagues – just waiting for his chance at the big-time level. If anyone deserves to play with the “big boys”, it’s Niko. His main purpose to get to the pro level is so he can provide an easier life for his parents, brothers, and sister. His parents have always worked so earnestly to enable Niko to live his hockey dream. The least he can do is look after his unselfishly sacrificing family.

So when Sadie and Niko first meet after some embarrassing circumstances, especially for Niko, she dibs him an “ass”. As time goes by, though, and the more they get to know each other, there’s a growing attraction there between the both of them. Both are, unfortunately, hesitant to act on their attraction, which just causes heartache and miscommunication between the two. Will these two ever get together? In my eyes, they definitely belong with each other. Sadie is just such a sweetheart and Niko needs that family stability that he came from, which Sadie is more than capable of providing. She’s just afraid to take a chance. Suppose it doesn’t work out and she’s yet again left all alone? Just that thought alone is horrifying.

I just can’t get enough of these entertaining hockey stories written by Brenda Rothert! With their erotically spicy interludes and often comically outspoken characters, Ms. Rothert just enhances the reader’s vision for a most enticing experience. Hoping that the author creates more of these fast-paced and seductive books. You will not be disappointed!

Yep, another great read from Brenda Rothert. Loved, loved, loved Niko. Hot, alpha, possessive, protective, caring, considerate, hunkilicious hockey player - total winner.

I wasn't too sure of Sadie at first but she really grew on me and her and Niko make such a cute couple.

This series just keeps on delivering.

Let me start by saying the way that Niko and Sadie meet is quite entertaining. Talk about fucking up lol.
What ensues is quite comical with Sadie shutting Niko down and Niko trying to make Sadie forget their unfortunate first encounter.

Niko is relentless in his pursuit but at the same time focused on his family which is soooo sweet. He had his cocky moments that made me laugh as well. I loved this Russian hottie.

Sadie I've loved her since we first met her in Luke and Dells book she is super loyal and my heart broke for her once we learn more about her past.

These two were sooo sweet. This book had some comedy, heartbreak, some steamy scenes and was super cute.

It was nice to see Sadie find her own HEA with this book. I wasn't sure about Niko at the start, hated the way that he tried to play Sadie, was glad that he got caught. Of course that meant that he had a big hole to dig himself out of to get back on Sadie's good side. It didn't help that Sadie seemed extra jaded after dating a ton of loosers. Watching the two of them fall for each other was fun. Sadie's dilemma at the end was a tough one, but I was glad of the choice she made. The last scene was great, nice to see Niko and Sadie living a happy life.

*** BETH'S 5 STAR REVIEW ***

**Complimentary copy provided by author for an honest review**

If you love a really great story with really hot hockey players then this series is for you because it is filled with several really hot and sexy NHL hockey players that fall in love with some really great women. I began this series just a little over 8 months ago after reading the synopsis for Bound as was sold the moment I read it. From that moment on, the more I read this series, the more I have fallen further and further in love with this series.

We first meet Sadie in Edge, she is the best friend of Dell, the female lead in that story. Sadie is a free-lance writer who has helped her best friend raise her son but seems to never find any luck in the love department. Date after date, disaster after disaster, she just can’t seem to find love. But what she does seem to find from it all is a really great story to write in her weekly column “Sadie Says”. But she’s tired of living and writing about her disastrous dates and has a new idea for her column – “60 days Single”.

We also get to meet Niko in Edge as he is one of the players on the junior team Luke was sent to play with. But like all other players on the team, Niko is waiting for that call, the call to finally move up to the NHL team. But for Niko it’s not about the glory of playing in the NHL, it’s about making more money to provide for his parents and siblings who are struggling to get by and keep their family run deli afloat.

When Niko first meets Sadie at Luke and Dell’s wedding, he pulls his Russian accent-barely speaks English tricks to try to woo her into his bed for the night. Sadie then later finds him out and now has a hate on for him. Many months later, Niko finally gets his call and is now playing with Luke and Ryker on the Chicago NHL team and is now getting to see Sadie on a much regular basis through their mutual friends. The chemistry between these two from the moment they met is sizzling and it only keeps getting stronger the longer time passes and the more time they end up spending together. Slowly these two let their walls down, telling each other things they have never told anyone else, recognizing there is something between them, but Luke has threatened Niko and his man whore ways to stay away from Sadie and Sadie is on her six month fast from men. But that doesn’t stop the desire happening between these two.

Once again this author has instantly pulled me into a great story that I just could not put down. This book had its really great sweet and romantic moments, and had some touching yet heartbreaking ones but it had some very hot and sexy scenes that were absolutely panty melting. I loved that the author had their relationship start off rocky and then slowly build up over time, it made me fall in love with both of these characters and keep waiting and rooting for that moment they just threw caution out the window and let themselves go. But that doesn’t mean you have to wait a long time for some sexy scenes, even though they weren’t having sex right away there were some really great hot scenes, but at the same time, this author has the right mix of sex vs story. I also truly enjoyed getting to see so much of Kate and Ryker as well as Luke and Dell and although this is the fourth book in the series I feel it can completely be read as stand-alone, but will be more thoroughly enjoyed if read as a series.

Overall this is another great book that has been added to the Fire on Ice series and hoping this is not the end, would love to see Orion’s book as well as maybe a few other hotties on the team.

I just love diving into a Brenda Rothert book. You know exactly what you are going to get, a fantastic story, each with its own uniqueness. DRIVE was no different. We already met the two main players, Sadie and Niko, in EDGE. Sadie was Dell’s roommate and best friend, Niko, Luke’s teammate. I was dying for Niko to get his own story… I just knew he would be fascinating and I was not disappointed.

Nikola Vereshkova has finally gotten the call he has been working towards his entire life… a shot at the big leagues. The best part? He’s heading to Chicago, a town with built in friends. His family needs him to succeed. He cannot afford for anything to distract him from his shot in the NHL, and Sadie is most definitely a distraction.

Sadie Alexander has given up on men… She’s tried it all. Speed dating, internet dating and nothing has worked. She is a fierce, smart, independent woman. She doesn’t need a man by her side. She’s been doing it on her own for years and will continue to do so.

When Niko and Sadie meet for the first time, sparks fly and the attraction is immediate. It’s their second introduction that doesn’t go so well. Sadie wants nothing to do with Niko, but with him being on the same team as Luke, avoiding him is impossible. With Sadie on a 60 day mission to be man-free, staying away from Niko should be a piece of cake. She can’t have him even if she did want him. Luke has already warned Niko to keep away from Sadie. So what happens when two people are prohibited from being together?? Let me just tell you…. STEAMY GOODNESS!

Niko and Sadie have chemistry for DAYS! You can feel the sizzle when they are in the same room. Pair that with the illicit nature of their relationship and it is simply explosive. You want to smack them upside the head for fighting their attraction to each other. Brenda Rothert has the brilliant ability to write a dual POV and have you feel like you are swimming in both characters heads. You are rooting for them to be together from the start. When they finally give in to their temptation, it’s not all sunshine and daisies. They will have to decide if loving each other is enough.

As with all of the books in the Fire and Ice series, Brenda knows how to bring the funny (I had tears of laughter pouring down my face during the pink underwear scene), the steam (the first time Sadie and Niko meet up in the hallway of the bar…yum!), and the sweet, “I don’t know how to handle needing someone. But I do. I need you.” Just like Niko, this book is the total package!

4 SEXY RUSSIAN STARS

I've loved The Fire and Ice series from the get go. I enjoy sports based romances especially hockey...

and Brenda Rothert has the magic touch in working in the team spirit and the love of the sport into a heart-warming, sexy and funny story.

This story is about hot, hulking Russian hockey player Nikola Vereshkova whose finally made it to the NHL and Sadie Alexander, the smart, resilient, sexy and loyal writer and BFF to Dell who we met in Edge.

“I don’t know how to handle needing someone. But I do. I need you.”

 photo Drive_zps1bf856c1.jpg

"I realized I was lost to this woman. I wanted her to be mine like nothing else but there was no doubt about the fact that I was already hers."

Niko is a hot blooded Russian and he's described so deliciously that I could almost hear his accent and feel the heat radiating off his rock solid frame. Of course, Sadie and Niko are drawn to each other and while at first, things turn sour real fast, there is no denying the attraction.

This was a really fast and engaging read. I devoured it in one sitting. I loved seeing Ryke (my all time fave hockey player), Kate, Melody, AJ, Dell, Luke and Kyler. Ms. Rothert is great at creating a true family like bond and warmth among these close friends and she effortlessly worked Niko and Sadie into the mix.

If you enjoy hot hockey players and smart, sassy women, I highly recommend this book and the series!

Another great sports romance by Brenda Rothert! Super fun and easy read that I zipped through in no time at all. We see a lot of our loveable characters from Fire on Ice books 1-3 along with the addition of our new couple Niko and Sadie. 4 Stars for this one. I love this series and this concept. Brenda has created another couple that you really fall in love with. This had some really funny back and forth between these two along with some really hot scenes. Check it out for sure and be looking for the next Fire on Ice book around Orion. (Side Note: I'm honored that I have the very first paperback copy of this book - from Brenda's mouth herself right after she signed it.. sqeeeee!! Thanks Brenda so glad we got to meet you!)

Niko Vereshkova is an up and coming minor league hockey player. When his day finally comes to be called up to the NHL he finds himself on the team with his former teammate Luke (Fire on Ice #3). Niko is focused and determined to earn a permanent spot on the Chicago team to help out his family. Niko has an uncomfortable first meeting with Sadie at Luke and Dell's wedding, but something about the smart mouth maid of honor sticks with Niko. Having friends in common these two are drawn together by a chemistry that is undeniable and despite Sadie's first impression of the sexy hockey player she is finding she can't stay away from him.

Niko, Niko, Niko. Where have you been all my life??? I think this is my favorite book boyfriend that Brenda has created.

Nikola Vereshkova, aka Niko, has made it to the big leagues. He relocates to Chicago joining Ryker and Luke's team. He has a chance run in with Sadie whom we met in Luke's book Edge. Sadie is best friends with Dell (also from Edge) and had previously followed her to Chicago to continue to write and be part time Nanny to Dell's son. Unfortunately, their first run in was not a good one (although very memorable). But fate has a different plan as Niko and Sadie continue to be thrown in situations together. Both of them learn that there is so much more to each other than meet's the eye.

I cannot rave enough about Niko. Niko is a hot, Russian hockey player with a big heart. There is so much more to his story than you expect. He truly comes from humble beginnings. I really think Niko is going to be huge. I know he makes my top 5 book boyfriend list.

As with all of Brenda's work this is more than just a contemporary romance. There is humor, sadness and drama. All wrapped up into one delicious story.

This would have been a 5 star read for me but I felt that the ending was rushed.

Brenda Rothert did it to me again...She has managed to make me fall head over heels in love with another hot hockey player. This time, it's with the Russian goodness, Niko Vereshkova.

Niko took my breath away so I can only imagine what impact he had on Sadie Alexander.

These two will give you loads of laughs, lots of mush, plenty of dirty talk and dirty deeds. But, Nikolai was just the icing on the cake for me.

He has crossed over to the Ryke and Luke world and I am reallllllly holding on to the hope of a peek for Sadie's finally ever after.

And, I am super intrigued for more of Orion's story.

Bring it on!!!

So let me start off with this - I haven't read the other books in the series - and it didn't affect the story line at all for me.

I really enjoyed this book. God - there's just something about a H that's totally sexy when he's all Russian and bad boy.

The thing about this Russian was not only was he sexy, bad boy and a NHL player, he was also totally Alpha~ in the yummiest, dirtiest, foul mouth way.

The chemistry between the H and h was off the chart. The story was interesting - lots of stuff happening, but none pulled away from the development of the relationship.

It stayed front and center and was fun, sad, and heart warming to read.

I loved these characters for each other! So much, that I'm totally going back to the previous 3 - because if their stories are anything as hot and entertaining to read as this one was, I'm going to have a great reading week...let's face it, probably two days...LOL!

Reading books that are part of a series can sometimes be tricky when not read in order; you tend to miss pieces of the story that occurred earlier. With Brenda's series Fire on Ice, I've been reading each of the books completely out of order, and can follow the story without feeling like I'm missing anything. She has a great way of recapping previous stories so that you don't feel lost and completely clueless as to what's going on. And, there is the two main characters in this story, whom I absolutely love! They are so quirky together and you can tell that fireworks go off with them just being in the same vicinity. Each of the Fire on Ice books are great, and they tell such a wonderful story of a team coming together both on and off the court, as well as finding love. Definitely recommend this as a fan of romance, sports romance, and sexy Russian men.

Another hot hockey player whose name is Niko! I fell in love with his character and his gentle side that Sadie brought out of him. However, his pissed off and fighting side was a major turn on and I was glad to see Niko kick some ass when an epic prick messes with his family. Overall, he was a sweet, thoughtful, and sexy man with a big heart. Niko and Sadie's story sucks the reader in and you can't put the book down!

LOVED This Book!!

This was a good book. It was sweet in its own way. I liked that he was so tough yet took care of his family & fell hard for Sadie. Oh, and he was naughty too

3.5 Stars

I think Sadie and Niko are my favourite story in the series.
This was a slow burn done well, I really enjoyed the chemistry and the banter and couldn’t wait for it all to fall in place for them…….but the last few chapters didn’t gel with the rest of the story and it was all over way too quickly.

The first say 60% of the book was 5 stars and then it went down hill for me. I felt like chapters had been edited out and the flow wasn’t there which is a shame. Hence the overall 3.5 star rating.

Brenda did it again. Sadie and Niko story was simply amazing. I couldn't put it down, it had everything and then some!
