Tessa fait l’apprentissage de la maternité avec son bébé âgé seulement d’un mois. Mais Darian Durand Davenport n’est pas un nourrisson comme les autres. Sa croissance est très rapide. Chevelu, fort physiquement, il grimpe partout et surtout développe des pouvoirs exceptionnels. Il fait des bêtises et c’est drôle. Mais un événement bouleverse le calme. Gilbert, le maire de la ville est retrouvé mort chez lui. Les Merlins doivent alors enquêter, d’autant plus que ce crime ne reste pas isolé. Les victimes s’accumulent, tuées par la magie d’objets maudits. Notre chère héroïne a beaucoup de travail : il lui faut arrêter le massacre, gérer Darian et ses tantes. Hollow Cove qui risque la destruction doit élire un nouveau maire. Là, deux candidates vont s’affronter : Martha, la coiffeuse propriétaire du salon de beauté de magique, grande commère et Dolorès Davenport en personne. C’est dire l’ambiance chaotique. Rien ne va plus pour Tessa. Et pour moi non plus !

Tout est bien qui finit bien parce que Tessa résout la situation. Elle répare les erreurs de ses tantes. Et c’est ce que le lecteur souhaite avec les sympathiques sorcières de Hollow Cove. C’est toujours aussi drôle et plein d’humour. Cependant, personnellement, j’ai moyennement aimé le scénario très répétitif. L’auteure a déjà utilisé le schéma plusieurs fois tout au long de la série : des meurtres mystérieux, une catastrophe qui menace de rayer de la carte Hollow Cove, une haine et une vindicte touchant les Davenport, des « bastons » récurrentes avec les ennemis, des chamailleries amusantes entre les vieilles tantes. A la fin, c’est toujours pareil. Même les répliques de Dolorès se ressemblent. Avec Ruth qui a l’art de se déguiser en sac poubelle pour partir en mission, elle traite de tous les noms Beverly comme « Traînée, prostituée » et d’autres termes encore. L’intéressée ne se vexe pas, au contraire. Elle ne pense qu’au sexe, ce qui l’assimile à une nymphomane qui peut avoir plusieurs rendez-vous galants par jour. Au début, on sourit. Mais à force, c’est « lourd ».
Le style d’écriture du livre reste inchangé : du simple langage parlé. Produit en langage familier trop drôle, l’ouvrage se lit aussi rapidement que les précédents. Il est tout aussi distrayant, sans « prise de tête ». A conseiller aux lecteurs veulent passer un bon moment. Mais là, ça devient interminable. L’auteur ne se décide pas à mettre un point final à l’histoire de Tessa. A l’inverse, elle produit toujours plus de livre. Sérieusement ? Comment fait-elle pour écrire autant ? C’est une équipe qui l’aide ? Peu m’importe car moi, je m’arrête là, et pas seulement parce que la bibliothèque de mon quartier n’a pas jugé nécessaire d’acheter les derniers tomes. C’est vraiment parce que la série tourne en rond. C’était sympa, mais je salue Tessa et je vais m’intéresser à d’autres héroïnes de la même auteure puisque j’ai déjà emprunté les quatre volumes d’une autre de ses collections (achevée). Qui sait, je vais faire peut-être une belle découverte.

Lacking
I am unsure but this was barely palatable . I love the characters but the schtick about the baby being unique is tired. Ruth being gullible and Beverly being a slut is also tired. We know the characters make them interesting, do something out of the normal. As humans we evolve, tastes change, etc. but not this group of characters and the fact that the only have one layer has become boring.

Wow!. Do this still had the humor I've come to associate with this series, but it was also a lot darker. I really loved it though and hate that I have to wait for the next book. I thought this series was over when Marcus and Tessa got married, but I'm glad it didn't. I love the direction the story is going and hope it doesn't end too soon.

Fantastic as usual
I just love this series! Even 19 books later, the series is still exciting, thrilling and never dull. Kim Richardson is a fantastic author and I love all of her books. I totally recommend this series. She keeps you wanting more. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Good book
I really enjoyed this book. I love Fantasy stories, and this series was pretty good. I laughed out loud at so many lines in these books that made me happy.
I took a star off because I was predicting some of the endings. But it's been a good run.

Family first baby!
It is really nice to open the door wider on the Davenport closet. So many family blood lines and never a dull moment. Who would have thought lady balls were so much trouble!

Loved this book full of unknown menace and thrills and of course Tess who can’t keep her cheeky mouth out of trouble , such great characters and every storyline will have you gripped a very well deserved 5 stars
