A laugh out loud haters-to-lovers, fake-dating hockey romance. Not so long ago, Robbie Mason had it all. Three Stanley Cup wins, two Hart trophies, and sponsorship deals worth millions. But then he went and broke his own teammate’s jaw, and the best defenseman in the history of the NHL hit rock bottom, hard.
Offered one last chance to play on the worst team in the league, the New York Thunder, Robbie knows he has to fix his reputation in order to prove to his coaches and league officials that he’s no longer the infamous bad boy of hockey.
With her job on the line, New York City real estate agent, Fran Keller, needs a sale before she loses her one and only listing.
When she receives a last-minute viewing request, Fran is prepared to do just about anything to secure a signed deal sheet. That is until she opens the door to Robbie Mason, her old high school nemesis.
Fran needs to sell a six-million-dollar apartment to keep her job.
Robbie needs a place to live, and just so happens to have six-million bucks to spend.
It’s the perfect plan. Robbie buys the apartment and, in exchange, Fran pretends to be his girlfriend. Because what better way to prove that he’s cleaned up his act than by settling down with a nice, young career-driver woman?
And, besides, who better to fake a relationship with that someone you can’t stand?

Let me start by saying, I've read a lot of Hockey romances, and this is officially in my top 3! I absolutely ate this book up. I read it in under 24 hours. The banter from the very beginning sucked me up. Fran cracked me up. I love a sassy FMC. She is seriously my fav! Robbie seems like an ass hat at first, but under the rough exterior, he is the sweetest man. He takes care Fran in more ways than one 😍🥰. I loved buildup and tension between these two. It was a bit of a slow-burn, but totally worth it. The spicy scenes between the two when you get there were soo good! Franny is a lady in the streets but a freak in the bed. I loved it! 🤭🫶 Throw in some drama and mystery and what more could you ask for? 10 out of 10! Would definitely recommend!!!
Thank you to Shann McPherson and Luna Literary for allowing me to read and review this ARC!
i absolutely LOVED this book, devoured it in one day, and am almost through the second.
robbie & fran were enemies in high school and never thought they’d see each other again until fran has a listing that’s her last ditch effort at making a real estate sale and robbie, now a professional hockey player, shows up as an interested buyer.
she desperately needs a sale and robbie desperately needs to rehab his image so they decide to put their mutual hatred aside and strike a deal.
the banter in this was EVERYTHING. they were so funny and the banter never subsided even when they were no longer enemies. this had such an engaging plot with the issues they were both fighting on their own and the spiiiiiiice, let me tell ya. they were ON FIRE.
robbie was a man OBSESSED and he was so protective and supportive of her and fran was a sarcastic, ball buster, curvy queen.
the banter and chemistry they had just made this such a refreshing hockey romance for me and i’m simply obsessed!!!
Rounding up my rating, because this was seriously fun. It's been awhile since I've read a rom com that was genuinely FUNNY, and this was definitely that. I loved the fact that our couple actually disliked each other when they entered into their fake relationship - they barely knew each other back in high school, but had somehow found themselves in a pranking feud. As adults, they are essentially strangers, and yet they have that history that ties them together. That leads to tons of banter and playful jabs, developing the chemistry in such a fun and interesting way. Not every reader will love the humor - which definitely does ride a fine line at times - but I never questioned that these two were perfect together. It's light and spicy, occasionally tackling some heavier topics but remaining an easygoing, refreshing read throughout. The things that bugged me were very minor, and I had a great time overall - it was the perfect introduction to this new-to-me author.
The story follows Fran, a struggling real estate agent. Though she works for a high end agency, she's never actually made a sale, and that's starting to become a problem. So when Fran discovers that her new client is her high school nemesis... well, she's less than enthused. Turns out, Robbie is now a pro hockey player who recently got into a messy PR situation, and he needs to buy the place Fran is selling. One thing leads to another, and Robbie finds himself striking up a bargain with Fran - he'll buy the apartment at full ask, and she'll play the role of fake girlfriend to help clean up his image. What's a little light blackmail between former classmates, right? As the two spend more time together playing the role of couple, they realize how little they know about each other. They find more common ground than expected, and suddenly their relationship doesn't feel so fake.
I was looking for a lighthearted rom com when I dove into this, and that's exactly what I got. Yes, it does address some heavier topics like sexual harassment, substance abuse and more, but the vast majority of it is low angst, spicy fun. Robbie and Fran had banter for days, shifting from feuding to flirting in a subtle way. Fran is a handful, and I loved that Robbie could handle her. He's also a sweetheart who is struggling with being misunderstood in his personal and professional life. Robbie now has a reputation that he hasn't earned, and I really felt bad for him at times. What I loved the most was that the story constantly kept me on my toes - though it deals with some familiar tropes, the execution felt fresh and different. It was very easy to binge. My only real complaint is that I wasn't always sold on the spice - particularly that Fran had been drinking prior to their first hookup (not a fan), which was a frustrating decision considering Robbie's experiences with alcohol/drugs. Other than that, this was entertaining the whole way through, and I'd absolutely read more from the author.
I absolutely loved Robbie and Fran’s story! The banter in this one was SO GOOD! It was absolutely the best form of foreplay. Enemies to lovers is always one of my favorite tropes and these two are a great representation of it. I also love that there was all kinds of representation in this one (pcos, curvy fmc, mental health etc). Robbie was very swoony taking care of Fran when he technically still couldn’t stand her….so he thought 🤭
I loved seeing their walls come down as they each realized they didn’t hate the other at all. There was a little third act drama that was honestly heartbreaking but it was interesting to learn even more about Robbie. Learn even more about Fran and her capacity to love and care for her person. Oh and the spice in this was spice’nnnn, Robbie is a deliciously filthy man 😮💨
I loved it! It was equal parts emotional, hilarious, and spicy 🌶️

💭My Thoughts💭 I’m usually a sucker for hockey romances and let me tell you, I absolutely loved this book. This is definitely one of my top hockey romances ever!
I loved Fran. She was a strong FMC who wanted to be the best at her job. At work, she needs to prove herself by selling a very expensive apartment. There, she is reunited with her old, high school classmate, Robbie. I loved Robbie too. The more and more we read about him we learn that he’s not exactly who everyone thinks he is. He is a top tier boyfriend.
These two hate each other. Their banter had me laughing, it was so good. It definitely is a true enemies to lovers romance. The chemistry, oh my goodness, the chemistry these two had was incredible. Not only was their chemistry great, but I really loved their moments of vulnerability with each other. Neither character was perfect. They each had their faults and that made me really enjoy the book a lot more. I was not expecting things to go down how they did at the end, but I ate it up!
If you love hockey romances, trust me, you do not want to skip this one. The banter, tension, spice (there’s a lot of spice), fake dating, just everything about this book was amazing. I loved it and would 100% recommend. I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could!

These two were so much fun! I found myself laughing and enjoying the dynamic between Fran and Robbie from the very beginning!
“You don’t have to worry with me around. I got you.”
I loved the text messages between them, (love the inclusion of messages in books) the banter and quick-witted responses were hilarious!
“But mostly, you belong here, with me, because when you’re not here, nothing feels right.”
Bonus Quote: “If you don’t stop calling, or texting, or harassing my girl—” “Me and my hockey stick’ll stop by for a visit, and I’ll show you just how much of a fuckin’ goon I can be." 🤭🤭
I absolutely loved this book. If you like Hockey Romance, fake dating, enemies to lovers and steaming hot spice this is definitely a must read for you!
Synopsis - Fran Keller, New York City real estate agent has to sell a six-million-dollar apartment before she loses her one and only listing and Robbie Mason has $6 mill, needs a place to live, and has to fix his reputation in order to prove to his coaches and league officials that he’s not the infamous bad boy he was made out to be. He can't go much longer without a total public image makeover.
It’s the perfect plan. He buys the apartment, and in exchange, Fran has to pretend to be Robbie Mason's, her old high school nemesis girlfriend. Because what better way to prove that he’s cleaned up his act than by settling down with a nice, young career driven woman?
Who better to fake a relationship with, than someone you can’t stand? Yeah, right…. Famous Last Words.
So obsessed with these two! The banter between Robbie and Fran was so good, it had me giggling, blushing, and at times with tears in my eyes and let's not talk about the chemistry between them, it was so hot and sweet, it gave me all the feels. I love me a book with text messages. Definitely adding Robbie to my book boyfriend list. His cocky and kind personality was everything for me. The way he cared for his mom and protected Fran was amazing.
Overall, this was an excellent read, a very well written love story. This is my first book by Shann McPherson and it won’t be my last.

When you want a book where they genuinely hate each other & have it out with a hate f**k. This one is for you
Fran & Robbie grew up at the same school but came from very different backgrounds which lead to them having ALOT of hate for each other. Years later Robbie finds himself traded to a hockey team in NY after a scandal and needs to clean up his act.
Fran is a struggling real estate agent & needs a big break. When Robbie is a potential client he offers her a deal she can't refuse, in return being his fake girlfriend to help him & his image.
We see both their struggles and their growth leaning on one another to work through them. This read was so cute, Shan did an amazing job with the plot, spice, and characters in this read.
Thank you Luna Literary Management and Shan for an eARC in exchange for an honest review
Shann McPherson is so freaking underrated. Her books are all the things- loveable, steamy, emotional and hilarious. Famous Last Words was no exception and I loved this so much! The enemies to lovers was so much fun to read because you can sense the lust and connection between Fran and Robbie from the beginning. I loved the way Robbie was obsessed with Fran when he didn't even know it, and how much comfort he found in her from the beginning.
I also loved how determined and hardworking Fran was. I loved how she was willing to do what it takes to get the most out of her life and wasn't jaded by Robbie's lifestyle. I loved the moment when she told Robbie that she was also a scholarship student in high school because I could feel the playing field leveling between them. I loved how they went from fake dating to recognizing their emotional connection and how moments like that played into it.
And the filth. I mean, I thought I was going to freaking perish. These two have CHEMISTRY and had me panting. This book is SPICY and it just fit them. Their personalities were so different but their chemistry was explosive. The mouth on this man alone.. phew.
Overall, I need Dallas's book yesterday. YESTERDAY. Shann's books are new favorites for me, I love her characters and how she layers their personalities. The books are well written and flow so well I can't put them down!! Read this one in a single sitting and will definitely read it again!!!
lo que más odio de estos libros con escenas de sexo explícitas es que después de la primera vez que los personajes se acuestan todo lo que viene después es sexual
tipo, pueden dejar de coger un rato y darme más trama?
It was a okay book! The beginning was cute but the scene he puts her in danger just left a bitter taste in my mouth. You don't drive fast and run a red just because you're mad at your girl. He had a reason afterwards but still. Can't get over it. And fuck her colleagues...
"Okay well I'm gonna need you to sign an NDA" "An NDA are you serious? Who do you think you are? Harry Styles?"
Firstly I'd like to give a massive thanks to Shann McPherson and Luna Literary Management for the opportunity to ARC read this book. This was my first ARC and my oh my was this book so so freaking good.
I don't know what Shann sprinkled in this book but I was absolutely hooked right from the first chapter. The banter in the book was perfect, it was literally everything. Now I can't believe I'm saying this because I am a die hard Hannah Grace stan but this book actually topped Icebreaker and I love love love that book with my whole heart.
This book had me giggling, blushing and kicking my feet in the air all at once. I was so invested in this book right from the start I genuinely couldn't put it down. Any bit of spare time I had I was using it to read this book.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am an absolute hockey romance fein and this fulfilled my hockey romance cravings. This book was the perfect enemies to lovers book, then go and throw a fake relationship into the mix... literal perfection I genuinely cannot fault this book.
Robbie MF Mason... the mouth on this man was incredible, IYKYK👀👀. Also I have to mention the absolute pure sass from Fran was everything not to mention she's a curvy girlie and they are my favourite kind of FMCs.
What to expect: - hockey romance - enemies to lovers - fake dating - sassy curvy black cat FMC - cinnamon roll german shepard MMC - reformed bad boy - no third act break up - slow burn - protective MMC
This book comes out officially on the 24th of October and if there is any book rec of mine that anyone needs to take seriously its this one. There is no way anyone can read these tropes and not think "this book is literally going to be so so good". This book is 100% worth it and even better... it's getting released on KU!!! So you can read it for free with your KU subscription and who doesn't love a free book!!!
But in all seriousness pre order this right now it's so good omg Shann I love you thank you so much for Robbie and Fran's story💕
If you love hockey romances this needs to be on your TBR. This story has it all from steamy enemies to lovers tension, fake dating, and plenty of spice. Fran is fierce, ambitious and is determined to make her mark by closing a major real estate deal. But when her plans collide with Robbie, her sharp witted high school rival turned hockey star, sparks fly. Their banter is so funny, their chemistry is off the charts, and the emotional depth between them adds a sweet heartfelt layer. It's definitely a must read!
This book has been perfect in every sense of the word. The relationship not only between the two main characters but also the one between them and the second characters was simply heartwarming. It had the perfect amount of drama, feelings and storyline. All in all, this book has come to me in the perfect time to read it (to be honest). I loved the development of Robbie and Fran’s relationship, which makes this book go to my “faves pile” immediately (and, if you me, you must know that is a big deal).
I'm gonna lie, I'm a little torn. Did I absolutely devour this book in less than 24 hours? Yes. HOWEVER- the whole thing was just one big ol red flag. I really liked the storyline but Robbie was just an asshole and his behavior was honestly a little concerning.
The spice was hott hott hott, especially if you enjoy a good degradation kink. I would have liked to see him reassure her more though. she was obviously self conscious and he just kinda made a joke of it.
I will definitely be picking up Dallas's book. I think he'll be more redeeming.
I read this one all in one day. It was such a well paced enemies to lovers/fake dating whirlwind. Everyone loved a good story where the main characters hate each other and just kind of go after each other but it’s clear they match each others freak. And this is that.
Robbie and Fran “f**king” Keller. 👏🏻
Robbie is your typical hockey guy with big personality and even bigger heart. I love how his entire reaction to Fran changed in a snap. And he just wanted to be near her. Always. Because ultimately isn’t that what defines someone being your person. You just like being near them? Fran made all the chaos quiet for Robbie.
Fran was such a solid character from the very beginning and I love her fiery attitude but Al how she had such a thick layer of insecurity because we all have that. We have moments where we are so confident and then we all have underlying weaknesses that bite away at that confidence. And Fran Keller was so real for that.
This book was just so much fun. And it hit all the tropes and micro tropes and moment at exactly the right time and place. The book was perfectly executed. And for that. I give it 5 ⭐️ because I genuinely have no complaints. I adored it. Start to finish.
ps: I’ve been binging Selling Sunsets. And this book just scratched that itch with all the real estate content 🫶🏻
“But the truth is, I think I've been down bad for this girl since the moment she came back into my life.”
“But mostly, you belong here, with me, because when you’re not here, nothing feels right.”
I loved this book y’all. It was so good. Robbie and Fran had an undeniable chemistry from the beginning and I couldn’t wait to see their story unfold. The banter was perfect and the text messages had me laughing out loud! I enjoyed Fran and Robbie’s back story. What she did to him in high school had me rolling and him not letting her forget it made it even more hilarious! I loved Robbie’s protectiveness when it came to Fran and the way he took care of her during one of her flare ups had me swooning! And guys the SPICE! I ate it up! Shann definitely knows how to write some spicy scenes! I also loved that Fran was not ashamed to admit what she wanted and boy did Robbie always deliver! 😮💨 If you like hockey romances and enemies to lovers then this is the book for you! I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

This is my second book by Shann and I have loved both! She mixes a dose of heavy with swoon worthy romance. I really loved the PCOS rep in this. It was pretty small but I loved how completely supportive Robbie was. Speaking of Robbie, I really liked how he was down bad for Fran almost immediately but even he didn’t fully realize it. It was cute. I always love in fake dating trope books when the characters realize they’re falling for real and they immediately clarify if the relationship is still fake or not. There’s no miscommunication. Love it!
I really only wish we had a little more time with Ma. Overall, this book was really great. If you love fake dating and reformed bad boy then I highly recommend!
The epilogue made me immediately think of the ending of Notting Hill. She’s laying with her head in his lap while reading a book. Super cute! I loved it 😍
Idk if this was a really good book because I was in a book slump or what. However, I loved this book and the individual characters and will be reading more of this author :)
This was my first book by this author and it surpassed my expectations. I’ve read plenty of hockey romances, but this one felt different—the characters were more mature, with more depth, and their relationship developed in such a genuine way. Watching Robbie and Fran slowly learn to understand and take care of each other in small, thoughtful ways was honestly so sweet.
Classic fake relationship setup—Robbie needed to show stability and Fran needed to sell the condo. At first, they circled each other warily, and Fran’s initial hatred toward him felt a little over the top considering she barely knew him. I would have loved just a little more context for that. Still, it made their eventual closeness that much more rewarding.
One of the earliest moments that tugged at my heart was their first kiss. Robbie clearly felt it was more than just part of the act, but Fran seemed indifferent, and that crushed him. You could feel his loneliness seeping through the pages, and it made me ache for him.
But then came the turning point. Fran had a PCOS flare, wasn’t responding to his messages, and even missed his game. Worried, Robbie went to check on her and ended up staying the night to take care of her. That moment completely shifted the dynamic—it was when Fran realized that maybe what they had wasn’t just fake anymore.
Overall, Robbie completely stole my heart in this book. His vulnerability when he opened up about his mom’s cervical cancer, and especially when he introduced Fran to her, was beautiful. The scene where Fran stayed with his mom so they could watch a game together—and then his mom asked Fran to make sure he’d be okay after she was gone *** Gut-wrenching and heartwarming all at once. And then immediately following it up with Robbie catching the two of them sharing a joint? I laughed out loud.
Another thing I loved was how they continually lifted each other up. When Fran finally stood up to her awful ex, Tadd, Robbie told her he was proud of her. Later, when Robbie told his team he didn’t drink, Fran told him she was proud of him. Both moments carried so much weight because each of them realized how rarely they’d heard those words before. It was such a powerful thread of their connection.
Speaking of Tadd—Robbie standing up to him every chance he got (and intentionally calling him “Chad” to irritate him) was perfection. And while Andy seemed like just a side character who smoothed things over as Robbie’s client manager, his quiet MVP moment was showing up at Fran’s broker’s open, putting Tadd in his place, and then offering Fran a spot in his real estate division. That scene had me cheering.
The way Fran stood by Robbie when he was framed was one of the strongest parts of the story. Even when she doubted his innocence in the back of her mind, she just wanted him to be honest with her. Once he shared about his dad and why he’d never touched drugs, she didn’t question him again. The unraveling of what really happened, the setup, and ultimately clearing his name in both the drug case and the Lola Grey scandal was so satisfying. Through it all, Fran was his anchor, and Robbie’s growth—and their love—was everything.
Overall, this story balanced depth, humor, heartache, and healing so well. It gave me all the feels and definitely has me reaching for more from this author.
𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 ↴ I LOVED THIS! Robbie might just be in my top 5 book boyfriends and he might’ve gotten that spot by just getting my girl Fran some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream—the ice cream and taking care of her when her PCOS flared up. He’s just the cutest (though there were times I got irritated with his behind) and we all love a protective boyfriend. Tadd and his buddies irked my soul, so did Tony apart from them I loved the rest of the side characters. This book is well written and it’s easy to read. If you’re into fake dating and hockey romances this is definitely a great read for you.

"Famous Last Words" is an irresistibly cute and steamy fake-dating hockey romance that will leave you smiling from start to finish. Robbie Mason, the bad boy of hockey, needs to fix his reputation after hitting rock bottom, while Fran Keller is a real estate agent desperate to sell a high-end apartment. When these two former high school nemeses reconnect, sparks fly as they strike a deal—Robbie buys Fran’s listing, and in exchange, she pretends to be his girlfriend to help clean up his image. What could possibly go wrong?
The banter between Robbie and Fran is absolutely top-tier. Their text messages are hilarious, and although they pretend to hate each other, it’s clear from the start that they have each other’s backs. Robbie's gruff exterior hides a sweet and caring side, especially when it comes to Fran. Watching him show up for her when she needs him—whether it’s during a work crisis or when she’s sick—makes their chemistry even more heartwarming.
The slow(er)-burn romance between these two is incredibly satisfying (and well worth the wait), with just the right mix of humor, spice, and genuine emotion. Robbie’s softer side shines through, and Fran’s tough, career-driven personality perfectly balances his. "Famous Last Words" is a fun, lighthearted read that delivers all the feel-good moments and spicy tension you’d want in a hockey romance! I can't wait to read more of this series!

I think this started off pretty good, like I love the classic fake dating hockey romance. This book was funny and I thought that Robbie was ridiculous at times, but I loved it. Tadd or whatever was annoying and that whole drama thing at the end did frustrate me. I just felt bad for Robbie at the end because everyone was doubting him, like Andy especially because you know his character, he wouldn't do that and risk hockey. Like I just felt like I needed to see the coach, the team, and everybody apologizing and shit to Robbie.
No third-act breakup
Characters ↳ Fran Keller I thought she was so sweet and it was so frustrating to have to read about her dealing with the men at her job. She did kind of lose me near the end because of that whole drama thing because dude.. how could you even doubt Robbie, but I do understand that he was acting whack in the car before the whole thing went down.
↳ Robbie Mason This poor man had to deal with the public and the hockey league being so damn annoying, he genuinely had more patience than me. He was too good for not wanting to expose that girl that almost ruined his career. I thought he was so sweet for going to take care of Fran during her flare ups and everything, but this man could not communicate. Dude instead of being short with her maybe let her know you want a real relationship. Like.
4.25⭐️. This book had me laughing and also blushing! I'm always down for a hockey romance and I definitely enjoyed this one! After being dropped from his team after some trouble and almost kicked out of the NHL, Robbie finds himself in New York with the only team who would take him. What he didn't expect was to see a high school enemy show up as the real estate agent while looking for somewhere to stay. Seeing as Fran is desperate for this sale before her annoying ex will get the listing, Robbie proposes a deal to help them both out - be his fake girlfriend and help rehab his image in exchange for him buying the apartment.
The banter between these two is hilarious at times and I also love seeing their softer sides. And when the steam hits, it's delicious and I devoured it!
