The updated and expanded sequel to the 1999 regional best-seller Frozen Memories, this coffee-table book covers hockey at every level in Minnesota. Mixed in are hundreds of biographies of players and coaches, as well as sidebar stories about everything hockey in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. With forewords by NHL greats Neal Broten, Brett Hull and Mark Parrish, the book is a must-have gift for any die-hard hockey fan.
For subject matter alone, “More…Frozen Memories: Celebrating a Century of Minnesota Hockey” - updated through 2007 - is worth picking up and reading on any of the subjects and teams that Ross Bernstein explores. The research and time put towards publishing is evident. However, be warned - these 250 small-printed pages found in a large coffee-table book are not for the faint of heart, nor are they meant to be read as a novel in a few sittings. After two winters sporadicly reading chapters - which feature both analytical summaries of hockey’s development in various echelons throughout Minnesota, but also lackluster, repetitive recaps of every season - I am happily at the end of this reading experience. The State of Hockey is better because this reference book exists - key word: book of reference - but look for other sources when trying to find a captivating page-turner that covers a specific MN hockey program.
