Some inherit wealth. Others inherit legacies. Amelia Bennett has inherited a curse. When Amelia Bennett, a fiercely independent historian, is lured to New Orleans by an unexpected inheritance, she finds herself tangled in the haunting legacy of her ancestor, the legendary Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. A Creole cottage on Bayou Road becomes more than a mysterious inheritance—a gateway to an ancient struggle between light and shadow, faith and power. What begins as an exploration of family roots becomes a race against time as Amelia uncovers a world of secret rituals, dangerous enemies, and a centuries-old curse that has haunted her bloodline. With the enigmatic Julien LeBlanc by her side—a man as shrouded in secrets as the city itself—Amelia must navigate the blurred lines between history and magic. As the ominous Les Ombres, a dark occult order, rise to threaten the fragile balance Marie Laveau fought to protect, Amelia discovers that she is not just the bearer of the family’s curse—she is its only hope for redemption. But can she embrace the power within her before the darkness consumes everything she holds dear? The Voodoo Queen is a spellbinding tale of romance, danger, and self-discovery, where New Orleans’ past echoes reverberate into the present. Step into a world where love battles fate and magic is woven into every shadow.
Elizabeth Whitmore is a bestselling Amazon author of paranormal suspense and supernatural romance set against the lush, haunted backdrop of New Orleans. Her stories blend magic, mystery, and emotional depth, exploring the thin veil between power and consequence, love and loyalty, and the secrets that refuse to stay buried. Her newest contemporary paranormal suspense series, The GUARDIAN Files, dives deep into a hidden world of witches, shifters, ancient magic, and the shadowy organization sworn to contain them. Set in the heart of Carnival season, the series expands the supernatural universe first introduced in Echoes of the Crescent City, where voodoo, legacy, and the dangerous echoes of the past began to intertwine. The GUARDIAN Files continues that lineage, revealing how bloodlines, betrayals, and buried history shape the present. Elizabeth’s Echoes of the Crescent City and The GUARDIAN Files share a connected world born from the early mythology of Le Gardien and Les Ombres, where Guardians stand watch and the Shadows wait patiently in the dark. Her Time Sharer series, a reader favorite, offers a separate but equally spellbinding journey through time, second chances, and the enduring power of love. Originally from South Louisiana, Elizabeth moved to Texas in the late ’80s with her husband. After his retirement, they returned to New Orleans and made it their forever home, settling into a historic condo in the heart of the city. Surrounded by jazz-filled streets, Mardi Gras magic, and centuries-old legends, she draws daily inspiration from the Crescent City’s beauty and mystery. When she isn’t writing, you’ll likely find her wandering the French Quarter, savoring local cuisine, or relaxing on her balcony with a glass of wine—already dreaming up her next story.
There are so few stories written where they are based in New Orleans let alone Louisiana. The history is rich and deep and has yet to be written about especially the Creoles of color. There are many untold stories. But this author has captured the plot about New Orleans voodoo culture that captivated me. I enjoyed reading the story of Amelia Bennett wondering what would her choices be. I'm anxious to read the next book to see if she will be continuing the next generation of Marie Laveau's descendants.
this was a strong opening chapter to the Echoes of the Crescent City series, it had that paranormal romance elements that I was hoping for and enjoyed from this type of book. It was a unique concept and worked with the world that was going on. The characters had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed from this type of book. Elizabeth Whitmore wrote this well and left me wanting more.

I loved this book and appreciated the authenticity without pomp and circumstance. Great story, fast paced and kept me reading nonstop. I loved your portrayal of Marie and her ancestors. I’ve lived in New Orleans and written many books featuring it and recognized everything you mentioned and described so well. You show your love of the city and have done it justice in words.
This was such a great story about good vs. evil as well as history of New Orleans and it’s people. This is well written, and would not let me put it down. Can’t wait to see how it ends. Now it’s time to go on to the next and find out where Ms. Whitmore takes us in #3.
This was a wonderful book that I couldn’t put down. I read it in a day and I can’t wait to read the next one. If you get a chance to read this book, please give it a try. You will enjoy it.
I only got a few pages in. It wasn't that I didn't like the story. I hated the font and spacing. For some reason, it was set larger with more space than I like. I couldn't change the font or spacing. It was driving me crazy. Since I have many more books to read, I stopped reading this one.
I love a story with unexpected twists and turns. Charming characters that makes me want to get to know them even better. This style of writing really draws me into the story, love it!
