He takes what belongs to him. Especially his mate.

When a billionaire Russian mafia boss promised my mother he'd look out for me, he didn't just chase me down despite my best efforts to run. He bared my ass and spanked me until I was in no doubt that he expects to be obeyed.

Then he made sure I knew he could see how soaking wet I was for him.

But as he finally yanks my panties aside to mount and rut me brutally right here on his private jet, I know it's not just because he's lost control. It's because he's an alpha shifter.

And I'm his mate.

Publisher's  Claimed is the second book in the Bound Mates series but can be read as a standalone. It includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

I don’t read a lot of straight sci-fi/para smut like this anymore with the spanking into submission, but I did like this author’s Instinct back in the day, and a friend told me this one was plot heavy. And she didn’t lie, there’s quite a lot of plot to smut ratio, the couple isn’t even a couple for a large chunk of the beginning. And the H, Alexei, was laid back for an alpha wolf. He definitely didn’t boss Anya around or really force her to do much, she pretty much did whatever the hell she wanted to do which unfortunately often was being TSTL reckless.

The book opens with Alexei being called by his childhood friend telling him she’s dying and asking if he’ll track down her wayward 19-yr-old daughter and look after her. He eventually does and realizes they are mates.

Alexie wasn’t the typical alpha we see in these types of books. A couple of non/small spoilery examples are So, I felt like the blurb was misleading because IMO Anya was very much wearing the pants not Alexie. She kept breaking rules, screwing up, getting people hurt and was rarely punished.

Bottom Line- This didn’t work for me but only because Anya drove me crazy. I say this all the time, but author’s STRUGGLE with trying to write strong female leads for some reason. I guess I’m supposed to see her constant opposition, and desire to not fall in line strong, but when she’s being hostile for no reason (like when she first meets him) instead of asking questions or acting like an adult that feels immature not sassy. And when she’s just breaking rules because she’s bored and wants to do what she wants putting people in danger that need to keep rescuing her that feels selfish.

This isn’t what I was expecting when I started reading of billionaire wolf shifter Alexei who was fulfilling a promise, meets his fated mate in a college drop out Anya who is just trying to find her way and in doing so is also grieving the loss of her mother. But while on a business trip with Alexei, Anya is lured by an old enemy of the wolf shifter, she attacks with surprising consequences..
This book had many twist plots that made it hard to keep track but was definitely a fast paced and steamy read.

I received this ARC copy, and this is my honest review.

MY RATING: ⭐⭐⭐.3
SPICE LEVEL:🌶🌶🌶.5
POV: multiple - his/hers
TROPE: knotted, fated mate, shifter romance, light BDSM, praise kink, breeding kink
ENDING: no cliffhangers( ish, I feel the need for second book about them going forward with there lives and alliance, maybe in Elena and Victor book)

MY THOUGHTS 💭 :
Alright, let me give you my honest take on this book. To be blunt, Anya grated on my nerves. She whined far too much for my taste. I get it, her life underwent a significant change, but her internal monologue, essentially a back-and-forth between "yes, absolutely," "but maybe", and "I want to defy him" felt incredibly repetitive. It painted her as spoiled and, frankly, rather superficial. I just couldn't connect with her character fully.
Alexei, on the other hand, was the epitome of the possessive alpha. While some might find that off-putting, I found it believable within the context of the story. Then, of course, the inevitable "complications" arose, primarily stemming from Anya's actions. I struggled to grasp her sudden need for rough handling in the bedroom. It seemed to come out of nowhere, without any real build-up or justification.
The narrative touched on the complexities of their lives, but I felt it skimmed the surface. There was a sense that there was more to their story, deeper layers that remained unexplored. That being said, the spice in the book was undeniably good. The chemistry between Anya and Alexei was palpable and intense, leaping off the page. The author nailed it.
While the romantic and sensual aspects of the book were compelling, the character development, particularly Anya's, left much to be desired. The story felt somewhat underdeveloped, leaving me with a sense of unfulfilled potential.

DO I RECOMMEND ☕️ : I would be reading this one.

Alexei just watched one of his closest friends pass. He promised Lily that he would take care of daughter Anya. He first has to find her. Anya tried staying in college but it just didn’t work. She ended up hanging with the wrong crowd. When a tall handsome man shows up to take her away, she doesn’t know what to think. Till she is told her mother has passed. Now all it lost for her. I have to say, she is going to carry guilt for a while. She kept putting off talking with her mother. Alexei has to wrangle her in. She is acting like a spoiled brat and definitely needs to have her butt blistered. Alexei tries to fight the mating pull. For Anya she is like a hell cat (wolf).

This story wasn’t like the typical wolf shifter one. Once Anya was able to shift things just seemed to be all bad for them. She did something totally gross, even to the wolves. And there were consequences to it. Bring in an old vampire and things really get complicated. I get we turned the tables, vamps over wolves. But what you thought was going to happen, nope totally different. I feel like the wolves are no more than pets in the world. It was intense and then upsetting.

Underworld Prequel Vibes

Seriously did the author watch the prequel "Underworld Rise of the Lycans" and decide to do a sophomoric Paranormal romance?
I usually enjoy the escape of the simple uncomplicated often silly romances which Loki Renard writes. I don't expect the next great novel from Loki. It's usually just fast fun read.
This book was just too ridiculous.
It was stunningly similar in plot to a movie released in 2009. Sadly it lacked a character that I could get invested in because they were all so self involved and one dimensional. If not for my compulsion to complete every book I would have quit reading it after the master Vampire had been given two coins as compensation. I didn't recommend this book.

Different

Kind of disappointed that alexei was not the most powerful being in the book, and Anya was such a reckless brat that her rash actions resulted in tumult. Lots of hilarious one liners, but the war seemed to not slant in the direction of the pack, and I like my characters to be the strongest creatures in the story. So for alexei and Anya to be overshadowed by a stronger character was an unusual situation that I can't say I enjoyed. But it was definitely different,so even though I did not like it,I gave it points for originality. Loki's past 20-30 books have been really hit or miss. This one was actually a miss for me,but since I felt it missed based on my preferences and not any real misstep by the author,I gave it 5 stars.

Alexei has come over from Russia because his old friend is dying. He promises Lily that he will look after her daughter, but he didn't expect to find that she was his fated mate despite being half his age. He left her to finish school, but when her friends were murdered by vampires he took her back to Russia for safety. But life as a mafia prince's mate feels restrictive to Anya. This causes problems in their relationship.

Starts off sad and a promise. Now he needs to find the girl to fulfill his promise only to find out it's a life time sentence. She's the rebellious type and doesn't believe anything anyone says even when it comes to her mother. Fated mates always have a way of turning things upside down. Add in a bit of a vampire in the mix and you have a war. Confused and doesn't want to do what is told of her to do and what do you get? Punishments.

One Action, Terrible Consequences

Anya is wild and willful, but fate has provided her with a strong older mate in Alexei, leader of the Russian werewolves. She’s not one for quiet and demure - one rash action unleashes a catastrophic chain of events. This story is a fast-paced, steamy and bloody ride - I loved the lore, the slight edge of chaotic violence that permeates the book, plus Alexei and Anya together are dynamite. An exciting read.

Truly a different shifter story 😁

I've read just about every shifter and vampire stories that they are 😃. But leave it up to Loki to mix the two worlds up into one of the BEST stories I've ever read 😄. I'm so thrilled with this series that I can't wait to see what happens next 😉. Thanks again Loki, you have long been the most AWESOME writer and I guarantee that I'll read whatever you write 🤓.

This story is constantly full of surprises that kept me guessing what was going to happen next. Anya and Alexei are fated mates but trouble is coming and it was not an easy road to their HEA but even that comes with a surprise. The story is well written and very enjoyable and definitely worth reading.

An exciting series of unexpected plot twists…
Alexei, a powerful Russian Alpha discovered his fated mate when he least suspected it. Anya is constantly surprising her gruff mate, not always in a good way. Trouble follows the impulsive young wolf shifter everywhere she goes… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

Spicy

*SPOILERS*

I mostly liked this although I wasn;t so sure around the subservience expected from the wolves to the vampires. Overall it was a decent read, lots of adult steamy romance and a decent plot, I just wasn't convinced on the vampire component.

I couldn't finish it. For 2 reasons, 1. The synopsis didn't give a good summary of what the book is about. 2. By chapter 6 I was ready go climb into the book and teach Anya some basic life lessons, in a very hands on manner. Give the book a try. Don't let my review stop you. You never know, you may love it.

Great Book! A MUST READ!

I enjoyed the characters in this book! They weren't some cookie-cutter boring people no, no. Every time I read a book these days, by page 10, I can predict what the people will do and how it will end. NOT WITH THIS BOOK! The twists and turns were very intriguing. You had no way to predict anything! BRILLIANT STORYLINE!! A MUST READ!

Lots of Loose Ends

Was an okay read. Could have been much better. After reading two stories by this author, I’ve co
E to the conclusion she’s great at concept, but not follow through. So many good threads that could have been expounded on but were just abandoned. I think I’m done reading her work.

Okay

Wait. What? I know Loki's stories come mixed with political and/or morality ideologies, this story included - speaking of wars and religion. But what the heck! That is how the story ends?

Um...okay

The story started out good but then took a creepy turn for me. The whole vampire-wolf shifter big happy family thing was a bit much. Maybe it will make sense in another book

I was not going to read this book because of book number one and I thought I’d be wrong. I should have followed my instinct because it literally was a waste of my time.

Wattpad read

I usually like Loki renards books but this one reads as a wattpad or fanfic book. A terrible jumbled mess. That flies by with no true details.

A really interesting read. A story of differences so vast and yet love found a way to overcome all the obstacles. A brilliant take on Vampires and Shifters.

I just can’t with these books. I should’ve learned my lesson after the first one but, I wasted my time on this one too. This was a mess and so uninteresting.
