Campbell all'età di diciotto anni affronta un'esperienza che l'ha ridotta in tanti minuscoli pezzi.Scappa dalla sua città allontanandosi dalla sua mamma e l'amica di sempre ,Lexy....
Dopo cinque anni è ancora a pezzi,ha conseguito la laurea ma ha deciso di fare la cameriera e vive a Chicago con Claire,una ragazza dolcissima,diventata la sua nuova migliore amica. La sostiene e la incita ad andare avanti con i suoi consigli:"Ascolta ,tesoro,non lasciare che il passato determini il tuo futuro"....
Ma Cam è bloccata e non permette a nessuno di avvicinarsi. Men che meno a Deacon,un sexy pompiere,molto determinato a conquistarla....
Bella questa storia,a parte l'inizio, è molto dolce e romantica.
Deacon l'ho trovato meraviglioso,l'uomo che ogni donna vorrebbe avere nella propria vita. Unica l'attenzione e la gentilezza con cui tratta Cam,capendo il suo dramma e con pazienza l'aiuta a ricomporre i pezzi della sua anima....

Without darkness one cannot know light, and there's no better example of that than in this book. You'll experience every emotion you can feel whilst reading, I can't recommend it enough. And as for Deacon, ah, Deacon, book boyfriend material if every I saw it. Just, precious.

La cover e la trama trasmettono la malinconia che ritroveremo nel libro, una storia segnata da un passato turbolento e un' esistenza fortemente segnata da ciò che è stato. Campbell Stevens è una studentessa spensierata ed una ragazza normalissima. Pensa al suo futuro, si è preparata ed ha studiato sodo per avere un futuro sfoliro ed essere sempre la più brava e brillante. La sua migliore amica è un po' meno rigida e molte volte la trascina nella vita movimentata dei bar e delle feste. La spensieratezza di Cam la porta a fidarsi ciecamente della sua amica, fino a quando una festa non finisce nel peggiore dei modi. Le prime pagine del libro sono pulite e spensierate, vengono sporcate da un episodio orribile che l'autrice riesce a descrivere nel migliore dei modi. L'autrice riesce ad immedesimarsi perfettamente dei personaggi che descrive e così facendo crea delle emozioni che il lettore percepisce perfettamente. Ho sentito tutto il dolore e lo sprezzo di Cam e la voglia di non vivere più. Gli anni passano ma per Cam non c'è niente che possa farla uscire da quella pozza di disperazione da cui è cascata. Ho storto il naso per alcuni atteggiamenti che ha, però mi rendo conto che ognuno percepisce il dolore in modo diverso. Deacon è un vigile del fuoco, già qui mi sono innamorata! Bello, sorridente e sempre pronto ad aiutare il prossimo, quando vede Cam fin da subito prova un'attrazione. Dal primo sguardo capisce l'immenso dolore di Cam e fin da subito si sente legato a lei. Faraà di tutto per amarla e farà di tutto per raccogliere i pezzi di lei e farla rinascere. Un uomo vero, con un' umanità immensa dentro di sè. Un personaggio d'oro. E' un libro che parla di rinascita e di forza. La forza di andare avanti nonostante a volte si vada in frantumi. E, soprattutto, non c'è bisogno di caricarsi di tutti i problemi da soli, chi ci ama ci aiuta. Deacon e Cam piano piano comporranno il loro muro dietro al quale lasceranno tutte le paure e le insicurezze. Il maggiore antagonista, in questa lettura, è il passato. A volte influisce così tanto nelle nostre vite che le cambia radicalmente. I personaggi secondari sono descritti molto bene e sempre lineari dall'inizio della storia. Alcuni miglioreranno, fortunatamente. Il libro è scritto molto bene, si legge tutto d'un fiato e le scene erotiche sono bilanciate e mai volgari. Il libro ha un finale bellissimo, soprattuto per com'è iniziato. Penso sia azzeccatissimo.

This book was so much more than I was expecting. Sure I had a vague idea of what would happen to the heroine and what her hang ups would be, I never expected all the emotions. And omg the hero, F**king Perfect, swoon worthy and beyond words. I swear if I could rip this man out of the book, I’d have him locked up in a heartbeat lol. So trigger warning.... the heroine is raped fairly early on in the book. I knew what was coming and all the signs were there, I just kept hoping the heroine would see them. I think what bothered me most (and I’m really not victim blaming here, trust me) is she was in a foreign country on her own. That alone would have had my sensors on alert and personally my scared introverted self would have bolted as soon as her friend did. Unfortunately I also have to remind myself these things happen and unfortunately things that are meant to happen will. But only those who can shoulder the burden are given these paths. Poor Cam suffers for over five years with what happened to her during spring break. Her life after then has been dull and devoid of true emotion. Until Deacon of course. Without sounding sappy, Deacon was is the definition of what soulmates are all about. He was so gentle and caring with Cam, doing everything he could to just love her. Seriously this man 😍😍😍😍. Side note, her friend never grew on me. Yeah the same one who abandoned the heroine in their first night together alone in Mexico at a club. I’m sorry there’s is no situation that this is ever safe, understandable or ok. I’m glad they were able to work it out years later but damn, who just leaves like that?!? Smh I picked this book up on a whim for a challenge. The story was a bit predictable but It was a wonderful romance and truly what love is all about.

This book has a potent message involving mental self-defense mechanisms & living vs merely surviving after sexual assault. There's also a meaningful thread about how those that love victims can be a catalyst for healing, but can never "fix" a victim... The victim has to want healing for themselves!

It's a great basis, but the writer lacked follow-through and writing skill to move the story beyond bare bones. I initially empathized with the MC, but that connection was lost in a sea of fluff, cheese, and the same inner dialogues on repeat.

Good Bones To The Story

So, clearly this is a book about a young girl sexually assaulted on spring break. Fast forward five years and this girl, Cam, finds survival by controlling her male relationships in that she never allows ANY emotional involvement.

Enter sexy, sweet, patient firefighter that sets her emotions afire. She runs and pushes to avoid the emotions he elicits, but he chases and yields to having her anyway she will give herself.

He chips away at her feelings that she's broken, unlovable, & incapable of love.

Monotonous, repetitive, boring ruins the story

So, the basic story ^^ sounds inspiring & makes you feel like you can root for a romance between emotionally scarred Cam and her sexy, patient fireman, BUT...

The writing here is just boring. It's monotonous with too much of just doing nothing but thinking the same thoughts and saying the same dialogue on repeat... He wants her, loves her, & will do anything to "fix" her as she needs to deny wanting and loving him & doing anything to prove she's unfixable. And, this is on repeat for 70-75% of the book.

The sexual assault itself is also repetitive; it was told three times and a dream of part of it a fourth time. Was it important? Yes! But, telling it that many times just felt like filler vs each being meaningful parts if the story.

Again, there's a message here of self-defense mechanisms following assault. There's a message of loving yourself before you can truly love anyone else, and that a person can be a catalyst for healing even if they can "fix" you. It was a good message/story that was diluted with somewhat cheesy, really dull, very monotonous, and extremely boring writing. It was like taking your favorite quote and shoving it into a set of 400 page instructions on how to clean your oven.

Conflicting Message

While the above are all positive points to the story, I'm extremely irritated with Cam and Lex's relationship. It wasn't positive and IMHO was laced with Pollyanna "all can be made well in the world with effort."

She maintains a VERY passive aggressive friendship with Lex post Mexico. It's a disturbing relationship! Lex is a selfish person, a pissy friend, & pushes Cam to do things that aren't good for her, whether that be sex before the assault or the push to drink during Claire's bachelorette party years later.

Cam internally blames Lex for part of the sexual assault, but admits to herself that it was own poor decisions that were the ultimate blame. That's a truth.

Yet, she still maintains this weird love/hate relationship with Lex & ultimately tells her what happened and forgives and forgets Lex's part without any accountability.

Lex isn't the one that drank too much or made an unwise choice to go to a hotel with men she didn't know, but the fact remains that if she was a real friend, Cam wouldn't have been ALONE, abandoned in a club in Mexico. Friends don't disregard other friend's safety that way. That's a friendship to be terminated, not mended.

So, the 'Awww, shucks... It's all good and were Bff's again' healing of their relationship sat horribly with me. It absolves her of her part in leaving her friend to the wolves without the chick ever even realizing her part in the chain of events. Insta-fix friendship for a friendship that's not even my definition of friend!!

Ends with a thump

So, we all look forward to the Big Bang at the end of a book. Well, it never came. There's a little moment around 70% or so where a pivotal turn takes place emotionally, but then the book just fizzles out with a bunch of fluffy day-to-day shit up to the HEA. The author throws in a few Tiffany boxes (btw how does a firefighter afford Tiffany jewelry? Just wondering?!?!) and two weddings for good measure.


******The "resources" portion at 98% was honestly the best part of the book. She gives resources and pounds her message in a direct note to readers:


• You are not alone.
• It is not your fault.
• Your experience does not define you.
• You are worthy of happiness.
• Help is out there if you need it.


Bottom Line

I'm conflicted as to how to rate this book. I think it holds a strong message regarding the emotional and coping aftershock of sexual assault, but, beyond that, it was just poorly written & a boring mess of repetitiveness and fluff as filler.

I hope the author revisits this book and revises it to omit the problems & add a little hurrah to the plot.

Conosciamo Campbell quando è all'ultimo anno, durante la pausa di primavera. Una ragazza seria che vuole il meglio, concentrata sui suoi obiettivi. Basterà una sera però a farle cambiare il suo pensiero sulle persone e su come gira il mondo. Se già prima era reticente a qualsiasi avance, un'esperienza traumatica la bloccherà nella sua comfort zone per diversi tempo.
Aveva solo deciso di concedersi qualche sorta di divertimento e le si è ritorto tutto contro, ora, cinque anni dopo, vuole stabilità e tranquillità e soprattutto non si fida più di niente e di nessuno.

Un colpo di fulmine.
Uno sguardo sognante che nasconde timore.

In pochi attimi la vita di Deacon, sexy pompiere di Chicago, viene stravolta da questi piccoli particolari.

Dalla trama ad essere sincera non mi aspettavo due protagonisti così inusuali. A parte il fatto che sono stati ben caratterizzati, l'autrice li ha resi particolari e diversi da quelli che sono i canoni del romance.
Pensavo di sapere come si sarebbe evoluta la storia e invece capitolo dopo capitolo sono rimasta sorpresa.

Una paura insidiata nel profondo che non permette di andare avanti, che spezza ogni mossa si voglia fare. Sono stata spesso a chiedermi, durante la lettura, se fosse la convinzione quella che mancava a Campbell e che invece vedevo presente in Deacon, e invece no. Ho realizzato che oltre ad uno scudo, il problema era a livello psicologico, molto più insidiato e devastante. Tanto da non permettersi di amare e di farsi amare. Una realtà che mi ha colpita come un treno perché ho realizzato che ognuno elabora le ferite a suo modo. Non è che non lo sapessi, certo, ma mi ha fatto riflettere su quanto rispetto a altri romanzi in cui la protagonista si lascia andare pur avendo un passato difficile e dei traumi con una semplice carezza. Con Campbell non è così. Per trovare l'amore verso se stessa sarà un viaggio lungo, una strada lastricata di buona volontà e di voglia di provarci. Un percorso difficile con accanto però un ragazzo buono, gentile e premuroso. Un protagonista per nulla dark, ma che mi ha fatto battere il cuore lo stesso.
Lo stile di scrittura mi è piaciuto per essere il primo libro della Wade che leggo, così come la caratterizzazione dei protagonisti che ho trovato fedele alla trama e soprattutto per tutta la durata della storia.

Purtroppo, mi è dispiaciuto non essere entrata in sintonia con la storia dal 70%. In alcuni punti ho faticato ad andare avanti, ritrovandomi a saltare qualche parola per capire se poteva succedere qualcosa di succulento così da tenermi incollata alle pagine. Invece c'è stato un indebolimento, non è scattata la scintilla. Dalla trama si evince abbastanza bene la storia e la si può immaginare a grandi linee e seppur ci siano dei risvolti che non mi aspettavo, purtroppo l'ho trovata molto prevedibile.
Ciò non toglie nulla alla bravura dell'autrice, e alla traduzione, perchè è riuscita a cucire un protagonista maschile fuori dall'ordinario con una famiglia che fa da contorno a dir poco affascinante.

Una storia bellissima che mi ha scatenato dentro mille emozioni, sono stata sull’orlo delle lacrime per tutta la durata del romanzo. Una volta arrivata verso la fine ero divisa in due, da una parte volevo finire la storia e sapere cosa sarebbe successo e l’altra che non volevo abbandonare la lettura. Frammenti è un romanzo intenso e pieno di emozioni che lasciano il lettore senza fiato. Un pompiere dal cuore d’oro e una ragazza a pezzi, che insieme riusciranno forse a essere felici. Un romanzo da non perdere assolutamente da leggere e amare assolutamente!

Può una notte segnare una vita? Quanto si ci può sentire distrutti quando ti viene strappato un pezzo di anima?
Cam lo sperimenta durante l'ultimo anno del liceo, quando una vacanza da sogno finisce per trasformarsi in un incubo.
Da quel giorno che ha infranto ogni sogno di Cam sono passati cinque anni. Ora lei lavora a Chicago come barista, anche se è riuscita a laurearsi. Della ragazza modello e piena di speranze che era un tempo non c'è più traccia. La nuova filosofia di Cam è quella di cogliere l'attimo, usare gli uomini solo per il suo piacere, non legarsi a nessuno.
Il suo cuore è uno scrigno chiuso a doppia mandata e nessuno vi accederà mai. Se non dai non soffri, se decidi di stare al comando nessuno potrà più schiacciarti o toglierti la facoltà di decidere.
Il controllo, per Cam, è diventato importantissimo, un elemento imprescindibile soprattutto per quanto riguarda le relazioni. Ponendosi in una posizione dominante ha la sensazione di non cadere di nuovo in un baratro, frantumata in mille piccoli pezzi impossibili da rimettere insieme.
Ed è questa la sensazione che abbiamo conoscendo Cam, di una ragazza ferma, cristallizzata nell'attimo in cui le è stata strappata la dignità, chiusa nel cuore ma non al mondo.
E poi, Cam incontra Deacon Montgomery, un sexy pompiere che fa vacillare ogni sua convinzione facendole sperimentare sensazioni che pensava sepolte.

Se l'aspetto di un uomo è troppo bello per essere vero, significa che la sua apparenza compensa la malvagità che sta nascondendo, e io devo starci lontano… molto, molto lontano.

Così respinge Deacon con tutte le sue forze. Ma il bel pompiere non è un tipo che si arrende facilmente ed è troppo preso da Cam per lasciare che lei fugga.
Il personaggi odi Cam è quello per cui ho nutrito sentimenti contrastanti. La sua reazione alla violenza subita mi è sembrata bizzarra. E' vero che le esperienze che segnano sono vissute in modo personalissimo e differente dalle persone, però avrei compreso di più un atteggiamento timoroso, chiuso soprattutto nei confronti del sesso. Cam invece usa il suo corpo come un'arma, prendendosi il suo piacere senza correre il rischio di affezionarsi, di lasciarsi trasportare dai sentimenti. Paura, troppa paura che non è mai andata via e forse non lo farà mai.

C’è un modo giusto di essere dopo aver passato quello che ho passato io? No, non credo ci sia. Ognuno è diverso, e di conseguenza gestisce il dolore in modo diverso. L’atto sessuale fine a se stesso mi ha sempre portato un gradito distacco. Le regole che ho adottato e l’assenza di sentimenti coinvolti per me funzionano. Punto e basta. Mi fanno mantenere il controllo, e quel potere mi dà forza, o almeno tiene a bada la paura. Se devo essere onesta con me stessa, sono spaventata… e lo sono stata ogni singolo momento dopo quella notte in Messico.

Deacon invece merita una menzione a parte, una medaglia al valore per aver sopportato tutte le porte in faccia metaforiche che Cam gli ha sbattuto. Dolcissimo, sexy, premuroso, un uomo a cui difficilmente si riesce a dire di no, capace di far sciogliere il cuore e tremare le ginocchia.

Ellie Wade ha scritto una storia che mi è piaciuta che tratta di temi importanti come quello della violenza sessuale e del modo di superare un'esperienza del genere. Non sempre ho gradito come è stato maneggiato l'argomento, ma credo che l'autrice si sia voluta concentrare sulla capacità di resilienza insito in ogni essere umano.
Cam è piena di sensi di colpa, si ritiene responsabile per quello che le è successo, proprio come accade a molte vittime. Solo superando questa impasse, la ragazza potrà riappropriarsi del suo cuore. Amarsi prima di amare.

This is the second novel from author Ellie Wade, and the first that I’ve read from her. I’ve had Forever Baby (her first release) on my TBR since it came out, and after reading this book…it will be quickly moving up my list! Fragment surprised me, I must admit. The writing style was in depth and thorough, the characters were well defined and the storyline flowed together so well. I was at the end of the book before I could blink. Books that really grab a hold of you and make the rest of the world fall away – well they are pretty rare , and Fragment – its among one of the most priceless of them all. A haunting, tale of a young girl’s struggle to find light through the darkness, to find love through the pain.

We first meet Campbell Stevens when she is a fresh faced 18 year old girl, away on a dream vacation in Mexico for spring break with her best friend. An innocent, hard working girl – she is not someone that indulges herself often , but when the opportunity for a sunshine filled week in Mexico fell at her feet, how could she refuse? Heading off with her best friend Lexi, all her focus is on having the time of her life. I had a hard time connecting with Lexi’s character. Coming from very different backgrounds and upbringings, Lexi has a selfish streak in her that refrained me from finding any sort of empathy for her and the situations that arise in the book. It actually intrigued me more, set the book apart with a very original character. Mexico doesn’t go as planned for Campbell, there is a predator lurking in the shadows and her open hearted innocence quickly leave her to fall prey to such a monster. A torturous event finds her broken. A shattered shell of the idealistic girl she was. When your heart and soul have been fragmented into distant memories, how do you go on?

Five years later finds Campbell a different woman. No longer carefree and innocent, she now withholds all emotion and avoids intimate relationships at all costs. The only exception is her new best friend in her new city – Claire. I loved Claire, I thought she was the perfect support person for Cam. She was the shoulder to cry on and the one to kick Cam in the ass when she needed a good dose of reality. This happened often once Deacon Montgomery entered the picture…

Deacon. Get your fans out ladies, and hold onto your panties – he’s a firefighter! And a damn sexy one at that. Not only that, he’s that type of guy that holds a woman and shows her love and affection on a regular basis, but in the bedroom – all bets are off and his true alpha colours show. Seriously, that boy heated up the pages of my Kindle! From his first meeting with Campbell on the street, he knows he has to have her. His relentless pursuit and hilarious antics to get her to let her guard down and give him a chance were the best parts of the book. The trivial pursuit bets, the endless coffee and flower deliveries – he is a man that isn’t afraid to show his emotions and fight for what he wants. There’s nothing hotter than that ;)
Cam doesn’t make it easy, and although pieces of the girl she used to be surface from time to time with Deacon, she is an expert at protecting herself at all costs and avoiding any kind of hurt. It left me wondering until the very end of the book if she would ever be able to rise from the darkness enough to explore the light with Deacon.

“First of all, let me decide what’s good for me. Second, I don’t care if you’re messed up. If this is you messed up, then I want all the mess you can give me. I want you, Cam, just the way you are.”

Ellie Wade, I adored this book – the writing was flawless, the story was consuming. Fragmented love, sometimes that’s the best kind..

Fragment is a stand-alone novel. There are no cliffhangers to worry about when reading this novel.

Campbell Stevens goes to Mexico on spring break with her best friend, Lexi. Cam, as her friends call her has her future planned out and is on track to become valedictorian at her High school. When things turn sour on spring break with a life altering event, Cam shuts down and turns all the people who love her away. She moves to Chicago and goes to college where she meets her now roommate, Claire. Claire knows what’s happened to Cam and has been her rock the last 5 years in Chicago. One day a Hunky McHottie fireman is walking to the coffee shop and lays eyes on Cam, she takes his breathe away but good luck to him! Cam won’t let any man into her life unless they are just for a F*ck!

“I will always come back to you.”

When Lexi visits Chicago to see Cam, Cam is working at the bar and Lexi meets some hunky firemen to party with. Of course Lexi has the hots for Boss, a fellow fireman. The Hunky McHottie Fireman that Cam saw outside the coffee shop, who also riled her feathers turns out to be Deacon Montgomery. Deacon decides to pursue Cam and try to get her to agree to a date with him. Little does he know of Cam’s strict rules and no dating, he has his work cut out for him. Will Deacon get through to Cam to convince her that he’s a good man with a big heart? Or will she go back to the flings she’s been accustomed to the last 5 years? Cam is shattered emotionally and she struggles to get over the tragic moments that turned her life upside down.

“I crave Cam in every way possible. I need her love, body and soul to calm this burning desire.”

“Let me love you. Let my kisses take away his. Let my touch replace his. I love you so much. Let my love fill you up and push out all his hate. Let me love you, Cam. We can fix this.”

Fragment takes us through a very real issue that is dealt in society and we don’t realize how drastically a person’s life changes when dealt with this sort of trauma. Although people act like nothing has happened, it is the burden they carry within on a daily basis that rips them apart. I cried for Cam and what she’s gone through. This novel takes you through the process of acceptance and how Cam learns to live with what’s happened and get over it many years later. This is a 4.5 star read and get your tissue box ready at the very beginning because no matter what you think, YOU WILL CRY!

I really liked this book. The trauma and tragedy that Campbell goes through is horrific. Her strength is amazon. The way she shuts everything and everyone out is so sad. She’s no longer living a “real life”. She’s just moving through the days and protecting herself however she can.
Deacon is amazing. His attraction and connection to Cam is immediate and he’s not going to give up on her.
Together their journey is tough but beautiful.

Ieri sera ho finito di leggere un libro mandatomi dalla Hope edizioni che fremevo di avere: “Frammento” di Ellie Wade.
Cam è una ragazzina che vive con una madre completamente disinteressata a lei. Ma Cam è indipendente, vuole solo andarsene da quella città per iniziare la sua vita.
L'ultimo anno di liceo, però, una catastrofe le sconvolge la vita mandandola in frantumi.
Cinque anni dopo, quando incontra il sexy pompiere Deacon, dovrà mettersi alla prova e affrontare tutte le sue paure. Specialmente perché quest'uomo non intende lasciarla andare.
Riuscirà a non preferire le paure all'amore?
Quando si cresce con una madre il cui unico pensiero è bere e andare a letto con gli uomini, l'unico modo di sopravvivere è pensare al futuro. Quando durante una vacanza con le amiche in Messico, Cam viene ingannata e violentata, le sue certezze non riescono a tenerla in piedi.
Il primo capitolo si apre proprio con questa violenza che mi ha sconvolta. Ci viene presentata una ragazza tanto forte quanto dolce che si ritrova in una situazione che nessuno dovrebbe vivere. Già dal primo capitolo mi ero affezionata a lei e sono rimasta shockata per la crudeltà che ha vissuto.
In seguito i capitoli subiscono un salto temporale di cinque anni in cui Cam ha cambiato città e convive con la sua attuale migliore amica.
Sembra abbia superato tutto, ma non è così. È fredda e cinica, si tiene a distanza dagli uomini a patto che il loro rapporto sia solo sessuale. Nessuno può toccare i suoi sentimenti. Fino a quando non incontra un uomo che le sconvolge i sensi, proprio ciò che ha sempre cercato di evitare. L'ultimo uomo bello di cui si era fidata le ha rubato la sua innocenza, quindi quando vede Deacon ha come un flashback, nonostante tra i due ci sia solo uno scambio di sguardi tra la folla.
“Deacon agita qualcosa nel profondo di me, e ciò mi fa mettere in dubbio tutto. Non posso permetterlo. Ci sono voluti cinque anni per creare un sistema in base al quale posso sentirmi a mio agio. So cosa va bene per me, e non è Deacon Montgomery. Purtroppo non lo sarà mai.”
Si nota subito che invece di guarire ha semplicemente soppresso il suo passato e l’ha chiuso nella scatola più lontana del suo cervello. Quando però capita che quella scatola si apre, il dolore la travolge. Ho sofferto davvero tanto per il dolore che ha vissuto e continua a vivere. Lei pensa di non poter amare e ho tribolato quando decide di non poter frequentare Deacon perché pensa di non esserne capace. È veramente un bel personaggio, nonostante le sue crisi violente mi facevano piangere il cuore.
Squillino le trombe, rullino i tamburi, il protagonista maschile è un pompiere sexy, dolce e a dir poco fantastico. Appena Deacon vede Cam ha un colpo di fulmine, quando si rincontrano tra amici il suo primo pensiero è uscire con lei, peccato che lei non sia dello stesso avviso. Riesce a vincere una sfida con lei e la porta fuori, nonostante si sia accorto che qualcosa in lei è "rotto". Gli basta uno sguardo per capire che qualcosa l'ha ferita nel profondo.
L'impegno che ci mette a convincerla mi aveva già fatta innamorare, ma vedere la dolcezza che usa con lei mi ha dato il colpo di grazia. Non le mette fretta, non la opprime, cerca di seguire i suoi tempi, nonostante ancora non sappia cosa l'abbia resa così diffidente.
Ammetto che è fin troppo perfetto: all'ennesima crisi di cui non capisci la provenienza o il passato ti viene da chiedere spiegazioni, lui invece rimane tranquillo e accomodante.
Una bella scrollata gliel’avrei data, non a tutte le donne piacciono gli stronzi e lui di sicuro non lo è, ma un po' di spina dorsale non fa male.
Però dato che esistono ragazzi così non posso far altro che accettarlo. Ho trovato la storia molto bella e dolce. anche se troppo lunga.
Molte scene sono inutili, non hanno fatto altro che smorzare le emozioni tra un avvenimento e l'altro.
Peccato, perché la storia valeva davvero tanto e poteva diventare una montagna russa spettacolare. I capitoli sono alternati quindi vivremo la storia da parte di entrambi i protagonisti.
L'autrice parla di un tema molto importante, la violenza sulle donne, uno dei temi più attuali in assoluto.
Cam è una di quelle donne che non denuncia e che si porta la colpa di una cosa che non poteva evitare. Ma la colpa non è mai della vittima, il NO è un nostro diritto e se viene violato non è colpa nostra ma di chi non lo rispetta. Bisogna sempre denunciare, parlarne e farsi aiutare, nessuno è solo. L'autrice ci lascia proprio una nota a riguardo, che ci tengo venga urlato con il megafono:
"NON SEI DA SOLA.
NON È COLPA TUA.
LA TUA ESPERIENZA NON TI DEFINISCE.
SEI DEGNA DI PROVARE FELICITÀ.
L’AIUTO È LÀ FUORI SE NE HAI BISOGNO."
Potrò essere ripetitiva, ma non basteranno le volte che vi ripeterò che la vittima non è mai la colpevole. L'autrice questo concetto ce lo fa capire in modo chiaro.
Vi consiglio di leggere questo libro perché la storia è bella, profonda e dolce.
Vi lascerà senza fiato durante alcune scene e vi ritroverete a tifare per Deacon e per la sua tenacia.
La copertina poi è stupenda, merita di stare sulla mensola della nostra libreria. Penso di avervi detto tutto, quindi se volete conoscere la storia di Cam dalla rottura alla ricostruzione della sua vita, non perdete tempo e iniziate questo libro. Buona lettura.

Fragment by Ellie Wade is a heart wrenching story about a girl's struggle to become whole again after a horrendous sexual assault left her broken.

Campbell Stevens is on the road to becoming a hugely successful adult. A hard worker all her life, she's looking forward to escaping her dead end life in Jacksonville, Florida and going to one of the many universities that have offered her a full scholarship. Campbell is a girl with no real family connection. She has no knowledge of who her father is and is not close to her mom at all. She's worked hard all her life to get where she is. Cam definitely had to grow up before she should.

During Spring Break in Mexico, Cam's world comes crashing down around her. Left by her best friend Lexi at a club one night, Cam is violated by a college boy and that changes everything Cam thought she was or could ever be. Cam never tells Lexi what happened to her and kind of resents Lexi for being so selfish and leaving her (I would too).

Five years later, Cam is a college graduate working as a bartender in Chicago. She has no ambition to use her degree and no interest in having a normal healthy relationship, as she calls it. She has arrangements with men, without having any feeling or letting emotions get involved, until she runs into Deacon Montgomery outside of her favorite coffee house. He is the only man she's ever felt any sort of connection to and it scares her senseless.

Deacon Montgomery is perfection all wrapped up in a firefighter's uniform. Unbelievably handsome, sweet, and loyal, Deacon is the complete package. He sees Cam outside the coffee shop that day and is immediately struck by her beauty. What he can't figure out is why she looks like she's scared to death of him.

The two meet one night at the bar where Cam works. After an awkward introduction, Cam does her best to avoid Deacon. She's frightened of the way her body reacts to him. Cam knows she can't ever have a normal relationship (crazy right?). Deacon is completely enamored with Cam. He can't get her out of his head and has to make her his.

On a bet, Deacon wins a date with Cam. Reluctantly, Cam goes on the date and even though her walls are up high, she has a good time with Deacon and it freaks her out. She knows she's broken and she'll never be able to have a normal life. She doesn't think she's worthy of love and that's just heart breaking.

Deacon sees through Cam's walls and even though she won't let them down, Deacon wants Cam more than he's ever wanted anyone. He tells Cam he'll take her anyway he can get her and that works out for them. Until one night Cam has a nightmare about the time she was attacked and loses it.

This book really touched my heart. It was heartbreaking and yet it was also sweet. Cam never realized how strong and remarkable she is and Deacon wanted nothing more than to help her see that.

I don't have enough words to describe how perfect Deacon is. Everything about him was good. His loyalty to his friends, his dedication to his job, his love for his family and the way he cares about Cam brought me to tears. If there was a book boyfriend I ever wished was real, it's Deacon Montgomery.

Now, you know I left out a bunch of important stuff because I want you to read this book. I have to give Fragment a five lip smack review. I can't even explain how much this story moved me and how invested I became in the characters. I also want to add, I think this would be a beneficial read to anyone that's ever been in Cam's position in life. Thank you Ellie Wade!!

Allora, partiamo dall'inizio. Rosa di libri da scegliere. Neanche finisco di leggere tutti i titoli che il mio occhio si ferma su FRAMMENTO. E chi sono io per sottrarmi al richiamo di un titolo così evocativo, che già mi fa pensare a tutte le tribolazioni del mondo? Chi sono eh? Nessuno! E infatti mi sono buttata a capofitto in questa nuova lettura.
Inizia cinque anni prima del presente. Lei si chiama Campbell, detta Cam, bella, intelligente e giovane e totalmente ignara di tutte le sue potenzialità. Si concede una pausa di primavera in compagnia della sua amica Lexi che le stravolgerà totalmente la vita e quella che farà ritorno da Acapulco non sarà più la ragazza che tutti conoscono. Quel viaggio l'ha incattivita, incupita. Si diploma e parte per Chicago. Ed è qui che la ritroviamo 5 anni dopo. Laureata ma ancora barista nel locale dove lavorava per mantenersi agli studi. E la ritroviamo soprattutto (purtroppo) ancora piena di rabbia e rimorso. Rabbia che rivolge soprattutto verso se stessa perché non è riuscita a superare il trauma di 5 anni prima. È rancorosa e diffidente e mantiene un costante controllo sulla sua vita perché sa (o crede di sapere) che è solo attraverso il totale controllo che può evitare qualsiasi dolorosa variabile. Ha una sola amica (Santa) Claire e nonostante senta ancora sporadicamente la sua vecchia amica Lexi, ha totalmente chiuso i ponti con il passato. Intrattiene relazioni sessuali sotto stretto controllo, senza mai far prendere il sopravvento ai sentimenti, mantenendo i rapporti esclusivamente sul piano fisico. Come qualcuno le farà notare, si limita a esistere ma non vive. Fino a che non incrocia per strada il super super manzo Deacon. E anche lui la nota perché Cam è dannatamente bella. Ma mentre lui resta folgorato dalla ragazza, lei sembra disgustata e terribilmente spaventata dalla visione del ragazzo. Entrambi continuano comunque a pensarsi reciprocamente nonostante le diverse reazioni. Il destino ha però in serbo per loro un secondo incontro e complice Lexi e la sua esuberanza, si ritrovano a intavolare una frequentazione che sconvolge entrambi. E qui Deacon diventa SANTO DEACON perché riesce a essere sempre e perfettamente quello di cui Cam ha bisogno. Sa aspettarla, spronarla, divertirla e sedurla alla perfezione. Lui sa cosa vuole e ne è sicuro. E lui vuole Cam, senza se e senza ma. Per Cam il percorso è più tortuoso. Ritrovare un frammento di quello che era stata è difficile e spaventoso. Ma ce la mette davvero tutta per guadagnarsi la sua felicità. Insomma... d'altronde parliamo di un pompierone di Chicago che si porta sempre dietro la sua muscolosissima squadra...

First off let me say that I really loved this book. Once you start you will not want to put this one down! This is the first book I’ve read by Ellie Wade and I believe it was her second book released. “Fragment” was extremely well written and I enjoyed every page.

When Campbell Stevens went on a spring break trip to Mexico with her best friend she expected to let her hair down and have some fun before finishing up high school and then heading off to college. What she didn’t expect was to experience a trauma so devastating it alters her life as she knows it. Over the next five years Campbell erects a series of walls that help protect her from the pain of that experience. She has become an expert of surviving and she does that by always keeping people at arm’s length, especially guys!



When Campbell meets the gorgeous Deacon Montgomery he sets off all her alarms. He is too good looking and her instant attraction to him scares the crap out of her! But Deacon is not so easily put off. This boy is persistent! Not one to take no for an answer, despite her insistence that she wants nothing to do with him, Deacon continues to pursue Campbell even when she is flat out mean to him. Can he break through her walls and help her heal?



All the characters in this book were great but OMG, Deacon Montgomery….



This guy is so sweet and so understanding, I just loved him! Oh and did I mention he is a firefighter!!! Campbell is a great character as well and I really enjoyed seeing her open up and grow throughout the story. I definitely see potential for more books starring some of the secondary characters; I would love to see Lexi and Boss get their own HEA. “Fragment” is extremely emotional at times and what Campbell goes through in the beginning of the book may be difficult for some people to read but it is so important to the story.



I believe that Ellie Wade handled it in a respectful and realistic way. I absolutely recommend this book and will definitely be on the lookout for more from this author.

Fragment is a story of one woman’s journey to rediscover and learn to love herself again after a horrendous incident that occurs at her first step into adulthood at the tender age of eighteen. It delivers a touching read of the love and support she finds in the man who was to become her hero.

Campbell has become a shell of her previous self after what happened in Mexico. She does not fit well with strangers, especially men. Even five years after the incident she is distant and standoffish with others and does not let anyone breach her walls. That is until she meets the gorgeous and sexy Deacon, a firefighter who once he sees Campbell he will not let her escape from him or herself.

Deacon was an easy BB to fall for, with his dimpled smile and his caring attitude for his family and friends, he just had me swooning with lust for him. I loved how he was able to draw Campbell out of her shell but this was no easy task and at times was difficult to understand what she was thinking and doing in her reactions to Deacon. The way she attempted to take her control back after the attack had me scratching my head as what she did with one night stands or FBs you would think she would forever run away from. But once Deacon came into her life all that changed and he gave her strength to take control in all aspects of her life. Nicely done.

I liked the romance build up but at times Campbell did frustrate me, I could understand her initial retreating but after a while I was growling at the kindle. I did eventually warm to her though and thought the ending was a lovely HEA to end on.

I loved all of the secondary characters but Lexi left me cold and I would have liked to have seen more redemption of her previous actions that lead to Campbell being on her own that night after she reveals what happened. Not sure if there will be a Lexi and Boss story though.

I thought it was a good subject to tackle and to bring awareness of, it certainly opened my eyes to the impact such an attack can have on the victim and the lasting legacy of one horrific moment in time. I wanted justice for Campbell though but I guess this is what happens in most cases that go unreported.

Overall a good gritty read intertwined with a beautiful romance building to a lovely conclusion.

Fragment by Ellie Wade was an awesome read. From the beginning I knew that it would be a good read and it did not disappoint! The story is about a young woman who has had a horrible life growing up, with just a Mom that was never there, never celebrated her birthdays, worked through all holidays, so she never thought things could be any worse. Campbell was so wrong! Something happens to her when she is on vacation in Mexico with her childhood friend that changes her life. This story starts in five years after the event.

Cami now has had a great roommate, Claire, and she is the only one who knows what has happened to Cami: they share an apartment and Cami works at a bar.They are there for each other. Cami trusts no one, not even her childhood friend.

Cami just goes through her days a small part of the person or-a fragment- of who she used to be. She does not allow herself any kinds of emotional attachments of any kind, as she feels that to be this way will keep her safe from being hurt.

Enter Deacon, a handsome firefighter-the first time they see each other, she runs right into him at the coffee shop, and he looks at her, and he knows he has to see her again, Cami in true form takes off running away. The next time they run into each other is at a barbeque he is giving for his friends and family, she goes as the guest of someone else. Deacon sees her and he knows he needs to get to know her, of course she says no, so a challenge is issued and she loses the game.

This book was well written, provides a lot of angst, and a lot of plot twists, and you will find yourself rooting for Deacon to find a way to get to Cami-all he wants to do is love her and protect her.

Will Cami be able to glue the fragments of her life back together with the help of Deacon and his loving family and friends, or will she walk away like she always does, afraid to take a chance and be hurt? After a moving scene in the book involving Deacon, you will see what happens. But you have to read it to find out! Do yourself a favor and read this book. You will be so glad you did!

I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock. Fragment by Ellie Wade just blew my mind. Campbell is a very smart girl that works very hard to get out of her home town and have a good future; but a bad choice during her senior year scared her for the next few years dictating her life and making her afraid to love. In comes Deacon a firefighter that is more like a knight in shinning armor that is able with a lot of work to break all of Campbells walls and makes her believe and trust and love again.
I have to say I really loved the story specially since Ellie did a great job with describing all the situations the hard ones that no body wants to think about as well as the ones that make you fall in love with the story. I will be reading more of her books and cant wait to see what she comes up with next.

I recommend the book to 18+ due to the harshness of some of the scenes.

Fragment is a beautiful story about survival and hope. Cam's life has been defined by one night when she was 17. Now 23 she meets Deacon. Can she overcome that night to find her future?

I love the realness of Cam. She's not perfect by any means. Her flaws are real and deep. The way she relates to the people around her makes this story for me. Lexi and Claire are so different but they both impacted who Cam is. Deacon is one of my favorite MMC and not just because he's a firefighter. Although let's be honest it doesn't hurt. He's a compassionate, funny, and totally crazy in love with Cam. The ending was my favorite part. I loved how it came full circle in some ways for Cam. I would definitely recommend this book.

I loved this book! I wasn't prepared for the emotions of it. Campbell fell into something that could have easily been me when I was her age. Hell, even now it may still be possible. As a result, she carried a lot of anger on the outside but inside she was falling apart. Luckily, Deacon was there to save her. After all, he is a fireman and saving lives is his specialty.

It was a emotional, sexy and sweet read! Loved everything about it! I am definitely keeping my eye on Ellie Wade. I like her style.

Campbell, ne ha passate tante nella vita, mettendosi dei paletti per continuare a sopravvivere alle sue paure. Deacon è un coraggioso pompiere, che mette a rischio la sua vita per salvare quella degli altri. Ambientata in quel di Chicago, questa storia racconta il percorso di rinascita di Cam che grazie all'amore e al sostegno di Deacon, trova il coraggio di rimettere insieme i frammenti della sua anima, lasciandosi alle spalle il passato, per tornare ad essere la versione migliore di se stessa. Con uno stile fluido ed elegante l'autrice ci catapulta all'interno di un romanzo sfaccettato di emozioni e messaggi importanti, guidandoci nel percorso di rinascita di Cam. La magistrale caratterizzazione dei personaggi inoltre permette al lettore di immedesimarsi senza alcuna difficoltà nei protagonisti, questo anche grazie alla scelta dell'autrice di utilizzare un doppio pov alternato in prima persona. Ho apprezzato moltissimo questo romanzo, che non solo mi ha fatto trascorrere ore piacevoli in sua compagnia, ma è stato in grado di trasmettermi tanto. In particolare di questa storia mi ha colpito la scelta dell'autrice di trattare una tematica molto forte come la violenza sessuale inserendola in periodo di per se già difficile per ognuno come l'adolescenza, ma non solo, affiancando alla protagonista Deacon e Claire fa capire al lettore quanto il sostegno e l'aiuto delle persone a noi più care sia un grandissimo sostegno per superare le fragilità che spesso possono limitare la nostra vita. Oltre ai personaggi principali del romanzo ho gradito molto anche il percorso fatto da Lexi e i messaggi che l'autrice ha voluto racchiudere all'interno di tutte le dinamiche del romanzo. Consiglio questo romanzo a tutti perchè può essere, oltre che una piacevole lettura, uno strumento stimolante che ci aiuta a comprendere argomenti a noi sconosciuti da una prospettiva diversa.

This was an great reading that I enjoy, I was looking for a romantic book and this book was really sweet, cheesy, fun and romantic.

The story is about Campbell that due to a very traumatic experience she lived when she was 18 years old she build up walls as a way to protect herself from the world.

"I’ve spent years putting up walls to keep others out in order to protect myself. My walls are so expertly built, so tall and deep, that no one can get in, even if I wanted them to."

Until Deacon appears in her life... Deacon is awesome he is a firefighter that you are going to love. He is so patient, comprehensive really cheesy and so caring, he is the one who starts crashing Campbell walls never giving up on her even when she pulled back.

"I will always fight for you. You are my everything.”

As the book progress we get to see how finally Campbell let her walls down and allow herself to love and to be loved.

...
“Loving you is the easy part. It was getting you to accept my love that was the challenge.”

The story was easy to read it is well written it has frustrating moments, fun momment, things that make me swoon and I even shed a tear or two .

I really like the secondary characters that make this story more enjoyable and Deacon's firefighters friends are really great and I hope that Ellie gets to write Boss and Tiny story I would definitely read it!!!

What a beautiful story to bring light to something so tragic. Ellie has showcased her gift at taking something tragic and bringing beauty to the telling of the story and the healing done by those involved. Campbell is your average girl on spring break when the unthinkable happens to her on the first night she is there. Like most victims she is scared, confused and blames herself and her best friend for not being there when she needed her the most. That night changed her and not for the better. Telling no one she goes back home to process this on her own. Flash forward 5 years and Cam is living a half-life, not letting anybody get to close. She has no real relationships aside from her roommate and the one man she has a standing fling with no feelings involved. That all gets flipped on its head when Cam locks eyes with Deacon. They both feel a magnetic pull to each other but have very different reactions to each other. Deacon is the man she needs, but will she let down her guard long enough to let him in? Cam's story was beautiful because although she feels broken, Deacon is there to remind her that life is more than the fragmented moments that try to break us.

An absolutely beautiful story full of perseverance, strength, pain, love and adoration.
It’s difficult to read and or write a book that involves something so delicate like sexual violence. But Ellie Wade wrote such a beautiful story. Telling a story about the raw and real reality that is sexual violence. Ellie Wade carves such a sensitive subject into her story so tastefully but also showing the real struggles of someone who has experienced sexual violence and not only their struggles but the struggles of those around them.
This book was absolutely stunning. I smiled and I cried. This book ripped out every emotion from my body. The deep connection between Deacon and Cam was something truly magical. To see Deacon bring Cam out of the darkness and into the light. To help her through her journey of healing was breathtaking.

I truly cannot fully explain how much this book moved me in every sense of the word.

But I can say with absolute certainty that this book was worth every second and more.

Ha alzato e fortificato delle barriere intorno a sè e non lascia avvicinare nessuno tranne Claire, la sua coinquilina e migliore amica da quando si è trasferita a Chicago. Lei è l’unica a sapere perché Cam evita ogni tipo di contatto con l’altro sesso.
Facciamo un passo indietro, cinque anni prima assistiamo al fattaccio che le ha sconvolto la vita e ha messo a dura prova la sua esistenza. Un trauma forte che si porterà dietro per sempre. Una violenza subita che l’ha resa diversa. Lei continuerà a incolpare sè stessa per aver ceduto all’ebrezza dell’alcol e accusa la sua ex migliore amica Lexie di averla abbandonata da sola in discoteca.
Cam era una ragazza alle prime armi, era candida e innocente e affrontava tutto con molta ingenuità. Pensava che per una sera potesse lasciarsi andare perché si stava divertendo, ignara della malvagità umana. Purtroppo per lei è incappata in un essere spregevole che le ha portato via la sua purezza in modo brutale e ora non si lascia scalfire da niente, reprime se stessa e sopravvive.
È convinta di non poter avere la felicità a cui tutti aspirano finchè non incontra Deacon che le causa un’instabilità a cui non sa come reagire e nel dubbio scappa. Di fronte a tanta bellezza e a quei penetranti occhi blu diventa una gelatina e corre ai ripari. A questo punto entra in scena il punto di vista di Deacon Montgomery, vigile del fuoco di 26 anni di Chicago che dedica la sua vita al lavoro, ai ragazzi della caserma e alle donne della sua famiglia. Anche lui vedendo Cam rimane fulminato e non capisce come mai una ragazza sia così spaventata da lui.

“Il suo sorriso, bello e sexy, è disarmante, e i suoi occhi azzurri come il mare luccicano e sostengono il mio sguardo. Mi impongo di chiudere la bocca, che è spalancata in modo poco attraente.

Il ragazzo, però, non si darà per vinto e tra barbecue domenicali e sfide all’ultimo quiz riesce a strappare un appuntamento a quella ragazza che trattiene il sorriso e ha sempre un’ombra oscura negli occhi.
Sarà dura starle vicino, capire cosa nasconde e gestire i suoi attacchi di panico. Lui è premuroso e la riempie di sorprese, purtroppo per lui ottiene l’effetto contrario fino a che lei decide di lasciarlo andare. Che tristezza!! Quando si perde la stima in sé stessi si pensa di non meritare niente. Per fortuna c’è Claire, che ha fede e continua a spronarla e al tempo stesso l’appoggia nelle sue decisioni.

“Le regole che ho adottato e l’assenza di sentimenti coinvolti per me funzionano. Punto e basta. Mi fanno mantenere il controllo, e quel potere mi dà forza, o almeno tiene a bada la paura.”

La narrazione scorre tranquilla tra pensieri di Cam e gli aneddoti di conquista di Deacon, finchè arriva un momento cruciale in cui aumenta il ritmo e il battito cardiaco. Un incendio devastante che fa precipitare Cam nella disperazione, ha paura di perderlo e l’ansia le gioca un brutto scherzo, anzi direi che le apre gli occhi sui suoi sentimenti. È proprio vero che nei momenti di pericolo ci si rende conto di quanto non si voglia perdere una persona.
Ci sarà il lieto fine? Sì, questo ve lo concedo, ma toccherà a voi scoprire come, dove e quando.


Non mi aspettavo una storia così sofferta, ritrovarmi nei panni di Cam è stato terribile in più situazioni, un po’ meno quando si ritrovava a guardare quegli immensi occhi blu.
La cover, in particolare, ha richiesto la mia attenzione e quella frase lì sotto aveva bisogno di essere capita fino in fondo. Penso che tutti abbiamo bisogno di una seconda occasione, mi sento un po’ come Claire che crede e spera che il mondo giri nel verso giusto, prima o poi.


Ellie Wade fa il suo esordio in Italia con una storia di rinascita interiore che saprà coinvolgere tutte le vostre emozioni, non lasciatevi sfuggire questa lettura.
L’autrice lancia un messaggio molto forte contro la violenza di ogni genere ma soprattutto quella fisica, se sei stata vittima di violenza non esitare a parlarne e non pensare nel modo più assoluto che sia colpa tua. Non barricarti nella tua mente e lascia che qualcuno ti aiuti. Cam lascerà cadere le sue barriere, con fatica affronterà i suoi fantasmi, con rabbia racconterà tutto a Lexie, ma imparerà a vivere di nuovo.

This one unfortunately did not work for me. Our heroine was brutally sexually assaulted on a spring break trip in Mexico her senior year of high school (trigger warning needed). This book flashes forward 5 years to show us how she’s “coped” with this experience and how she lives her life now. It’s very upsetting to read. Then we meet our hero who cannot take no for an answer. That alone put me off. Frankly, our heroine needed intense therapy…

The storyline itself was very mundane and boring. It was extremely predictable and repetitive. I’m willing to give this author another chance seeing how this book was written over 10 years ago. Keeping my fingers crossed for a better read next time!
