No, No, Kitten!

Rate this book
Meet Kitten—she wants catnip and milk and a basket. She also wants a helmet and lasers and a puppy (!). And she wants to go to Jupiter, with that helmet, those lasers, and said puppy—don't underestimate her. This witty picture book, about longing for what's just out of reach, will appeal to both girls and boys who've always wanted to do the impossible. NO, NO, KITTEN! takes flight on the power of imagination and one feline's ambitious dreams.

I wish the ending was a bit different but still a cute story. There's just too much no in this book and not enough yes.

This kitten wants everything it can't have (a puppy, a helmet, a rocket ship...). Great for story time.

Further proof that cats just do what they want.

A fun and silly story which I suppose if you think about it could be seen as teaching the lesson to not let the naysayers keep you from achieving your dreams. Or it could be seen as encouraging selfish behaviors.

Or it could be seen as just a cute story with a cat.

I like how it made my child smile. He was able to identify the kitten and the puppy. He also identified a few other things... The engines, gadgets, and lasers not so much, but im sure he will get there one day. All in all good read.

I'm just not really a fan of kid's books that show (seemingly) bad behavior. It's like taking a class in being naughty.

I appreciate the imaginative story, but the text didn't flow very well. Though the ending was cute, it was just kind of thrown together.

This is the perfect book for my cat-obsessed preschooler. She giggled every time we said "no, no" to kitten, though the rocket at the end lost her a bit.

We have a kitten (well, a six-year-old cat now) almost exactly like this kitten, so, of course we loved the book.

Not being a cat person does not prevent me from being well aware of their distinctive personalities. Over the years, once permission was granted by the creatures in question, several friends have had feline companions. Even a true-blue dog person like me is unable to resist the lure of a kitten.

What is important to remember is those tiny beings and their human counterparts have a lot to learn about what they can and cannot do or have. No, No, Kitten! (Boyds Mills Press, an imprint of Highlights, March 3, 2015) written by Shelley Moore Thomas with illustrations by Lori Nichols follows a tenacious mischief-maker. This little bundle of fur is paws-itively determined.

A kitten wishes for many things. Some of which most kittens want (toys, food, etc.), but when kitten starts wishing for other things, Kitten is told it is impossible.

This felt too negative for me; yes, in the end it turns out Kitten was "right" to wish for these "impossible" things, and true, it was a child telling Kitten it couldn't have these things; but honestly, with the amount of destruction Kitten was causing, don't really blame them for telling Kitten "No" so much, however, still didn't like the implied imagination squelching.

No content issues.

Beautiful picture book! I read this to my kitten Nora Jean. Although it take a few times before she would sit still and listen. She did like it. I think the reason she was having such a difficult time paying attention was because she thinks she can do anything and the word no has no meaning in her vocabualry ( that is if kittens/cats did have a vocabulary). I loved this book and look forward to the next No, No Puppy!

Kitten has aspirations. Kitten wants a puppy, a helmet, and a trip to outer space.

I tried to read this to my two young nieces yesterday. Both are cat lovers, but weren't captivated by the story and wandered off before the end. I thought the story was cute, captured cat tendencies well and took them a step higher with humorous touches.

Hilarious. A slightly older group than my usual storytime kids -- probably the 3- to 6-year old age range -- would get the most out of its extensive absurdity and adorable illustrations. Chase your dreams, Kitten!

Oh my gosh, this was beyond adorable! It's so clever and humorous. Both children and adults will love this story of the Kitten who wants to do things he's not supposed to do. The illustrations are BEAUTIFUL and so cute!!!

Repetition and predicting make this a fun story for preschoolers. The blasting off part is a surprise, but doesn't fit as well. The puppy who watches the kitten's antics gets his own share of the attention!
Bold colors and simple illustrations will help younger readers focus on the action.

My 18 month old son loved this book. The illustrations are cute and the vocabulary is fun and easy. We practiced "no, no, no" when Kitten was naughty. We tried new sounds (pew, pew, pew says the laser), learned about new places, and practiced familiar baby signs.

Adorable. G and I really enjoyed this one together. I think she is a lot like this kitten... Can't put her into a box of what others think she should be. Love the curious little kitten.
