When shadows fill the night, it’s hard to tell friend from foe.

With young to raise and her Pack under attack, Sylvan, Alpha of the wolf Weres, takes on her greatest challenge when she determines to uncover the faceless enemies know as the Shadow Lords. While her mate Drake struggles to find the link between the deadly Were fever virus and the mutation she carries, Sylvan calls upon her allies among the Vampires and Fae to defeat the secret pact of humans and Praeterns bent on destroying her and those she is bound to safeguard. Liege Jody Gates, Sylvan’s ally and heir to a powerful Vampire Clan, must choose between her promise to Sylvan and her duty to Clan when she aligns her forces against the deposed Vampire Regent Francesca. If the battle to come is lost, all the Praetern species will be sentenced to exile in the shadows.

This is book #6 in the Midnight Hunt series. Be sure to read books 1-5 first if you want this to make any sense at all!

This book really needs two reviews. One as the last in the series, which book #6 seems to be, and one as book #6 in a seven+ book series.

After creating a wonderfully detailed world (and parallel world of sorts, with Fairy!), many unique, diverse and interesting characters….Radclyffe appears to have gotten bored and decided to just wrap things up with a “good enough” ending. Book six felt like watching the last episode of your favorite TV series, believing that if it had been renewed for just one more season things would have ended so much better.

The battle between Sylvan and her allies against Francesca and her group is anticlimatic, and much too reminiscent of the battle at Nocturne, where Francesca was again easily beaten but disappeared, presumably to come back to fight another day.

A more interesting battle would have involved other players of the shadowlords. Why were the supremely powerful Fae Cecilia and Jodi’s powerful father Zachary even introduced in this series if they were never to be given any real roles? For such a powerful and fearsome vampire, Francesca and her low-level minions sure don’t last long in battle. The series set up a fearsome team of Cecilia, Francesca, Zachary, Nicolas, Veronica, Senator Westin, weres Dru and the Blackpaws allied secretly against the honorable team of Sylvan, Jodi, Raina, Torren and Andrea. And then….splat. Nothing resolved.

Francesca’s minions Luce and Dru are interesting, but their stories are left largely untold. Why did Dru feign sleep to eavesdrop on Francesca, Luce and Cecilia? Max and his nearly mated human Andrea, the federal agent and sister of Martin are also only granted a mention here and there.

Book 6 ends with a mild explanation that Nicolas and powerful politicians can be linked to the laboratories, as if that ends the human threat. Errr…how many powerful businessmen and politicians escape justice? Also, if the were-fever virus is to remain a secret to protect weres and avoid panicking humans….what, exactly, are Nicolas and his powerful politician friends going to be accused of doing in the secret labs?

As usual amid all the frenetic sex, we do have a few more pairings. Grey and Tamara make a nice couple, although Tamara’s role as an Omega is never really resolved. Torren and Misha are also sweet together. What Torren will do as a Fae on earth is left to anyone’s guess. Lots of sex, I suppose, which will at least keep Misha happy.

Having the blackpaw infant weres turned over to Niki and Sophia to raise was sweet (but who didn’t see that coming after their parents were killed and Sophia mentioned for the billioneth time that she could not give Niki offspring?) but feels mostly like wrapping up minor loose ends to give some sort of ending to the series.

To date, this series has been 4-5 stars. If book #6 really is the ending, then I’m very disappointed, and as an ending “Shadow Hunt” earns only 2*. The name wasn’t even accurate - Sylvan and her team only hunted a few renegade blackpaws and the always beatable Francesca; they didn’t really address the shadowlords (or shadow players or whatever they were called).

If a book #7 appears, then book #6 is probably 3-3.5*. The weakest of the series, but I would be more forgiving of the flaws if there was an opportunity to really finish the series as strongly as it started out.

If you’ve read books 1-5, then you should read book #6 just because you’ll always wonder what you missed if you don’t. But after you do, you’ll probably always wonder what we all missed because Radclyffe got bored. 3* - meh is my rating for “Shadow Hunt”, which probably brings down my overall rating for the series to a recommended 4* versus the 5* wow that a couple of the earlier books delivered.

Loved this book in the series as I did the previous 5. In case everyone doesn't know yet, these are NOT stand alone books so start with number one. I highly recommend this series even if fantasy isn't your preferred genre. I predict you will love them too.

3.5 Stars. Received this book in the mail to read and review for NERFA, (hope it's allowed I put it here on GR while I read...)
Not typically one to read a series out of order, I will give it a go though! Hope I'm not too lost :o
Finished. It was odd, but not bad. When I first started, I was like... What is this!? But then I got into the story, found myself pretty well interested, and by the end I liked it much more than I thought I would. I might come back and expound on my thoughts, but right now it's growing late, so I'll cut it short.

Oh I feel like one who just opened a really anticipated Christmas present. This series is making me sleepless and having me at an edge during the day to run home and continue the next chapter.
Awesome work by Radclyffe.
The 6th book gives all the features the predecessors supplied, however I'd say the action is a lot more exciting (especially the two part operation... generous of the author and absolutely well done).

This book took me a long while to read. Normally, I can read a book in a day or 2 max. I had a hard time getting into this one. Whether that's because it had been over a year or so since I read the last one or because I felt that this was a rushed & jumbled conclusion to an otherwise above average series, either way I had higher expectations. I know there is now a released 7th book or novella, hopefully that brings a better resolution.

* ARC received via NetGalley.

Deposed vampire regents, human scientists, renegade weres, an unknown virus; the Timberwolf pack has it's hands full in book 6 of the Midnight Hunters series. It didn't take me long to sink back into the dark and mysterious world of the Praeterns. Even though it has been a year since The Magic Hunt was released, the characters and setting feel like a worn pair of sweatpants after a long day--comfortable and familiar. You can really feel the growing tension radiating from the pages as the groups at play head towards a growing conflict.

All of the familiar characters are as dangerous and sexy as ever, although some of my favorites didn't get as much page time as I would have liked. I also feel like the series is starting to lack a certain amount of danger. I never felt afraid if any of the characters would pull through and as powerful as Francesca is suppose to be, she is a bit of a pushover. At first I thought the ending seemed too easy and neat, but there is enough of a twist for it not be too perfect.

Those points aside, Shadow Hunt is more of what you come to expect from this series and I look forward to the next book, maybe the Fae will play a bit more of a role.

This is the sixth book in the Midnight Hunters series. This was one of the most action-packed books in the series and I liked the scenes. Poor Gray! She has gone through the wringer and I’m glad she was the focus.

As stated in my previous review:
Radclyffe does not disappoint on the erotica tag at all. I was a bit concerned with the insta-love vibe, but it definitely coincides with the fact that the Weres are able to sense their true mate. I am such a sucker for books where there are possessive and jealous love interests. This hits that right on the dot.

TW: There are explicit M/F scenes (hardly any but still). It’s not g!p necessarily… but please read other reviews for a more in depth explanation.

I reread this series every Halloween and cannot recommend it enough. H to the o to the t.
➢Happy reading!

It needed more of Jody Gates & Becca. The writer let's us witness them in the beginning and hints that Becca may be coming into some kind of power of her own. Becca was able to sense Jody's dad trying scan her mind. Jody reveals that ability is quite advanced. Then...bam! The two disappear until the end. With all the were cat involvement, you would think Raina (& Lara) would be more present. Although I'm a little disappointed, I enjoyed the read. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

The plot thickens for Alpha Mir as things continue to change all around; to include new alliances. This is a action packed book from beginning to end.

I was excited and sad to read this book, knowing that it is the last of the series. So as I say goodbye to Sylvan, Drake, Niki and Sophia and the rest of the Weres, as well some characters that I never imagined myself liking, Vampires and even a Fae, I am floating in bittersweet contentment. The entire book was, of course, building the final battle, and it was epic. The last six chapters of the book flew by so fast I was oblivious to everything around me. It was a fitting ending to a great series, one that I wasn't entirely certain I could latch onto at first. It's been three years since the author has penned anything (as L.L Rand), but she did leave a sliver of a chance that the story might continue. Let us say the door is closed, for now, but not locked.

Um, wow!

Well, well, well…Francesca gets more and more interesting as this series goes on. Too bad, I’m not on her side because she is intriguing and mesmerizing. But she has done a few things that makes her just another animal. But that would be looking at it with “human” eyes. In her world, relations may mean something altogether different.

The war rages on, although we lost some people in the battle. Sylvan and Jody still leads with mostly level heads. I still like the current allegiances and alliances. They have proven to be steady, useful, and may result in true friendships.

Can’t wait to read the next installment.

Doesn't feel like the end

I was anticipating this awesome action romance fantasy series going out with the huge bang it deserved… but, it whimpered & limped its way over the finish line instead.

It didn't feel anymore conclusive or completing than most of the previous books did—in fact it left many subplots & narrative tangents simply hanging in the air, irreconciled & unresolved.

Though not achieving anything close to all I feel it could've (& most definitely should've!) been as a series ender, this still was a very entertaining & enjoyable read.

An end to the series?

I have loved this series, my wife and I met in a discussion about these books! What i finally realized in this last book, however, is that the theme is always the same: a predator is being hunted, forced to wait for the enemy to make a move, while our heroine is impatiently waiting to bring justice to those who have wolfnapped their own. So if there is another book in this series, even though I hate to say it, I will probably pass.

Well...this one sucked! The first 5 books were great, but in this one I was done with Silvan not winning. I skipped a lot of pages. I wanted more Becca and Jody, Lara and Raina, Micha and Torren, Gray and Tamara. And I wanted to see Niki and Sophia settle down more. So no, this book 6 was disappointing for me.

Actually 3.5 star. I enjoy reading all 6 books in the series, but it's too much sex & I kept thinking that werewolf got to have their own clothing factory. I also had hard time to believe that there're only 2 medics in agressive werewolf pack. ;)

Well done

Even though it took me months to finish this book, I’m really glad I did. I love the ending! And if this is truly an ending, great but I’d love for the author to give us a story within Fairie....

Great story continues

As in all LL Raand /Radclyffe series the story only gets better. A few nail biting moments, some really good fighting and totally taking down the bad guys.

One of my favorite were series! I love Raands take on the paranormal. I’ve read the series several times and I never want it to end!
Raand’s world building is amazing. She has created a believable world full of humans, Were, Vampires, Mages, Fae, and Psi. Each book has a new couple falling in love, while still centering around Drake, Sylvan and the Timberwolf pack, and giving updates on the lives of the previous couples.
In book six we get a look into the land of Faerie and more of the Fae Queen Cecilia. She seems to be allies with Francesca and possibly saved Francesca from death in the end. We get to see Torren with full power while in Faerie, and the ever growing bond between her and Misha. Misha calls to Torren from the earthly realm and Torren opens the Faerie Gates for her and Drake. I’m sad that Torren has to stay earth bound, but at the same time I’m happy that they will stay with the pack and have their own cabin.
FINALLY Sophia and Niki are able to complete the mate bond! I’ve been waiting for this since book one. Wanting them to have that connection. It turns out that Sophia’s bite may have saved her from were fever even. Swoon. Then they get to become mothers to the orphaned pups. I love this series.
Gray finds her mate in Tamara! An omega from Blackpaw. Tamara is able to sooth and entice her wolf. She is able to offer Gray her submission that Gray needs as a dominate, and also her dominance that Gray craves after the trauma she’s endured.
More from Drake and Sylvan and their beautiful pups. Drake’s DNA may hold the cure to were fever. One more foe the Timberwolf Pack May soon defeat.
Sylvan and Jody each lead a strike on the enemy in a duel battle. Finally the monsters that captured and tortured Katya and Gray are gone and the pups they want to experiment on are safe. Francesca’s budding
rebellion is silenced before they can do any more damage to the Timberwolfs or the Praetern Coalition. Raina takes down Dru the cat we’re helping Francesca.
The members of the Shadow Lords are falling one after another. Nicholas Gregory isn’t dead but in trouble with Human law after his secret dealings are revealed.
I love this book, I love this series, and I can’t get enough of the characters within the pages.
