The Slayer.

It’s been centuries since the first time my eyes have feasted on such a tempting sight.

She’s been expecting me just as much as I’ve anticipated her.

Her happiness is my damned heart’s perilous undertaking.

Her protection was my lost soul’s last dying wish.

The coven doesn’t know our secret.

A curse, with a promising loophole, several centuries old sealed in blood.

Haunted time and again by her imminent, unforeseen death, her soul continues to call to me from beyond the grave.

Beckoning me closer, she tempts me to play life’s game with her.

One. More. Damned. Time.

The only way to keep her safe in her next life is to stay away.

The problem is, her mortal presence makes me yearn to find a way to save her soul, even if it means our cursed love ends with her running a stake through the only thing I long to offer her.

Felix and Esme are destined. Fated. Damned. Forbidden.
That’s reason enough to read this one! You get multiple POVs and all the Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes of the old days. There were some areas of slower pacing, but pushing through them, you get a wider scope of the story. The POVs were from a lot of characters, which can be confusing to keep up with sometimes. Overall, their story was heart-wrenching and gave all the feels! Spice level 4/5🌶️. The world was well developed and I’m excited to see where the story goes next.

The book started strong, but after part one, the pacing starts to slow down and it took an effort to finish it.
The writing is nice and it fits the plot because of Hamlet story.
The first part, for me, was the best, the other two where okay but I wanted more, more plot twist, more things to help me push it till the end.
Probably will not continue the series.

This book had such a cool concept, but the way it was executed wasn't for me. I liked the characters, but I felt like there were way too many POVs. It all got very confusing. There were parts of thi sbook where I was confused and other parts where I found myself not invested in teh characters or the stories. This book just wasn't for me.

ARC Review of Cursed Lifeline by Evelyn Montgomery
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

If you love your paranormal romances with a darker edge, Cursed Lifeline delivers beautifully. At its heart, this is the story of Esme and Felix—Slayer and Vampire—two souls bound by fate yet cursed to never truly be together. Their love spans ages, searing with both passion and pain, and trust me, the spice is very much there. 🔥

I’ll admit, I felt frustrated right alongside them more than once, just aching for the curse to finally break. My heart genuinely hurt for them. Evelyn Montgomery captures that perfect balance of angst and tenderness that makes you root for them despite the odds stacked against them.

Beyond Esme and Felix’s romance, the world itself is richly layered with danger, intrigue, and a cast of side characters who bring humor and heart to the story. They break up the tension at just the right moments while also deepening the worldbuilding, making this book feel alive beyond just the central romance.

It’s definitely a story that keeps you turning pages, wondering not just if love can survive a curse, but what sacrifices may be demanded along the way.

⚠️ Content warnings: breath play, knife play, and blood.

Overall, this is a darkly romantic, tension-filled read that fans of doomed love stories won’t want to miss.

Cursed Lifeline is. vampire/slayer romance. I’ll be honest I am not usually a big fan of Vampire Romance, this book is definitely an exception!
Felix is swoon worthy. All he wants to do is love his fated mate (also forbidden) and keep her safe. But there is a curse and other circumstances that will work to keep them apart.
Their love is true and will survive so much, even death! The other characters and their stories are also intriguing. If you are a fan of Vampire Romance, fated love, forbidden love and love that stands the test of time you really want to pick up Cursed Lifeline and start reading!

From the beginning, this book felt like a mash up of some of the most well-known vampire stories out there. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Twilight, a little Interview with the Vampire, and then a little Shakespeare thrown in for good measure.

Any Hamlet fans out there?

The story of Felix and Esme and their cursed love was the primary focus of the story, though with multiple POV's it definitely expanded beyond the two of them. Alfred was probably my favorite character, followed shockingly by Viktor.

The book was split into 3 parts and I have to say I found the first to be the most engaging. After that, it felt a little redundant and drawn out. And by the end, I couldn't wait for something different to happen.

This was another tough read for me, at 664 pages, I was ready to call it quits multiple times. As the first part of a series, I'm not sure I have it in me to go on.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story, but the length and drawn out storyline really took a toll on me.

Looking for a book with vampires, forbidden love, curses, morally grey characters, multiple timelines, betrayal, and so much more? Then you should definitely give Cursed Lifeline a try.

This book had such a unique storyline following two souls who were tragically fated together. Esme and Felix’s love and passion were so easy to feel through the pages, and this love spanned lifetimes. But they were cursed to never truly be together. My heart ached for them each time they were torn apart and forced to start anew in Esme’s next life. The tension and angst between Esme and Felix in each life was delightful, and I loved that each lifetime for spicier for them. 🌶️

Our cast of side characters brought additional depth to this story, and I can’t wait to see where their stories take us in the future!

‼️Definitely check the content warnings before reading this one to ensure it’s the right book for you.

Thank you so much to Evelyn Montgomery and Torch Lit Ink for the opportunity to ARC read this one! 🐦‍⬛

✨ ARC Review ✨

Usually reviews come easy for me, though this one is a bit tricky.
I liked part one. It kept me intrigued as to where the story was going, there was some great world building in there and the characters have some hot as chemistry! Especially that poker scene near the start!

The multiple POVs became a distraction to me as it wasn’t just the love interests with chapters, there were other side characters too, which for me, took away from the building storyline between Felix & Esme.

Parts two & three, I found much slower, and as the book itself is over 500 pages, it seemed to drag on.

Overall, the story itself has some potential, it just wasn’t for me.

This book literally altered my brain chemistry. No vampire romance has ever hit this hard. I love the whole destined enemies thing, slayer x vampire, the ultimate forbidden love. I do love a good star crossed lovers but I’ve never read one that broke my heart a million times like this one did. I love all the Hamlet references too! They are obviously fated, but the curse makes sure their happy ending won’t come easy. I’m not usually into the soulmates trope but maybe it’s because they’re fated lovers but are also destined to unalive each other so it kind of cancels out. The world starts off pretty simple I guess but as the book progresses we get a lot more world building like fae and kingdoms and blood oaths. I loved this plot. It was really intense and very sad. I cried so many times, it was romance based but there were lots of fantasy elements too. Plot was amazing but the characters and their relationships were also everything. I’m not super big on Esme, I think the author was going for that cliche starts weak ends up strong, but there’s not much change and she’s just average compared to the other female characters in this book. But Felix, though, I love him so much. But maybe it was because I felt really bad for him, I felt his pain tearing my heart apart every time. This book was kind of giving the Ballad of never after and he was so Jacks. If I wanted a vampire boyfriend, it would be him. He’s like a charming gentleman on the outside but an obsessed freaky kinda stalker on the inside. I’m obsessed with him but then he started giving Edward vibes with the (I don’t want to take your soul) thing. I loved Celeste, she’s my favourite female character, and Talon, I just feel really bad for him. Their love definitely has a long way to go but I NEED THEIR BOOK. I liked Evangeline and Alfred too but I found her a little annoying, but I’m really rooting for Alfred and I NEED THEIR BOOK TOO. I’m probably going to be thinking about this book for a long time, and if there’s one thing I learned, eternal love is fcking terrifying. This book is mind blowing, obsess with it, definite 5.5/5

THOUGHTS:
There is A LOT to this book. Almost 700 pages, a plethora of characters, multiple timelines, etc.

Starting in the late 1600’s and ending in the current time period, you follow a vampire coven, some fae, and a cursed human through endless possibilities of hell.
Over and over again, you think you see what’s coming and you really just don’t. I was not expecting to also get a bit of each of the other characters feelings and relationships throughout the story. It can be a little much at times, a little all consuming, but it is truly worth it in the end.
I was constantly drawn in by the authors use of past words from previously in the book, things that absolutely make your heart flutter.

“Pray you love, remember”

and

“Forty thousand, remember?”

The poetic use of love and remembrance and compassion and everything in between MADE this story. It consumed me. I think about these quotes daily now.

Thank you so much to the author and her team for allowing me to read this story early! CURSED BLOODLINE is out MAY 1st! Get your broody vampire soon 🫢☺️

A really good book with multiple POVs and multiple timelines. Inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer, multiple timeline love stories and multiple lives/characters involved. Slayers, Watchers, Vampires, Witches, and Fae, what’s not to like? I love how it all was tied in and flowed through the years and lives, there’s a lot of spice, multiple good stories. While the main one is Felix and Esme, there’s Drusillia & Draven, Talon & Celeste, Viktor and unnamed, and Evangeline and Alfred, and I could’ve learned more about Silas and Caelum too. Honestly I could read about the entire world she developed, from the watchers to witches to vampires to fae. I could’ve kept reading. It was 3 parts but I would’ve read 300 to get to know more about all of the moving and inter connected parts . I recommend. Thank you for the ability to ARC this book.

“Sometimes love makes you do stupid things.”
”Men…Causes men to do stupid things. I guarantee you if the roles were reversed…she would have found a way to make things work that didn’t include both of them ending up in an early grave.”

---ARC Review---

This book had a lot happening at once, but in the end, the payoff made it well worth the read. While the pacing lagged at times, the overall plot remained enticing enough that I never wanted to put it down. Felix and Esme’s journey was heartbreaking and powerful. Their fight to break the curse time and time again left me feeling their frustration right alongside them.

“Delirious yearned for, desperately craved, painfully ached to be back by your side. That’s how it felt not breathing the same air as you…”

Felix stood out as an exceptional MMC; his protective and obsessive devotion to Esme was evident in nearly every decision, even when those choices weren’t always right. Watching him endure the loss of her life more than once was gut-wrenching, and it really underscored the strength of his character. Esme’s character truly shone in her third life, when she fully embraced her role and carried herself with a hardened resilience. Compared to her earlier lives, this version of Esme felt so much more determined and compelling, and I only wished we had more time in that stage of her story. That said, I also think the faster pace of this section may have made me race through it because the momentum was so strong.

“I choose you, remember…Now, open up for me like a good girl, and let me claim what’s mine.”

Of the three parts, my favorite was the first, as it centered on Felix and Esme meeting, the gradual development of their mutual obsession, and the haunting reveal of the curse. The emotional stakes felt the highest there, and I loved the intensity of not knowing what to expect. Beyond Felix and Esme, the world building in this book was incredibly ambitious. Not only did we get the full arc of their curse, but we were also introduced to four other couples, each with a tantalizing story of their own. The way their narratives were set up has me excited for what’s next; I can’t decide whether I’m more eager for Drusilla and Draven or Talon and Celeste, but I’ll definitely be continuing this world.

“Losing myself to you gave me the only heaven I’ll ever know.”

Not ever having read anything by Evelyn Montgomery before, I was excited to read Cursed Lifeline, book 1 in her Eternal Love series. A vampire romance between forbidden fated mates is what pulled me in. As I read through it, well known vampire stories definitely can be seen throughout the book. These vibes include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Twilight, even Interview with the Vampire. I also loved how Hamlet vibes were mixed in, making this read intriguing and captivating. I loved the multiple POVs as well. This brought so much to the story and created a very well rounded storyline, seen from multiple angles. I know this could be difficult for some, but I felt the storyline was easy to follow.

With so many characters in this story, it’s going to be hard to write a review like I normally do. So I am going to focus on the things I loved. Felix and Esme are everything! Their love story pulled me in and kept me reading. Felix is beyond swoony and I loved watching him protect his fated mate. The forbidden aspect added depth to their relationship that was amazing. Along side our MCs, Evelyn created so many wonderful side characters that added so much to the storyline. Every one of them added layers to the storyline, tension between the different worlds, and I can’t wait to see more of them in future books. Celeste and Talon…iykyk!

The world building is insane. And it isn’t given to us all in the beginning. As the book progresses, Evelyn continues to provide vivid imagery and intricate details to make this world come alive. Every description, it is easy to see how much time Evelyn spent creating this world and clearly she could see it in her mind. Translating that to paper can’t be easy, but Evelyn brought this world to life.

All in all, I would recommend this vampire fantasy read. It is a book that you can get lost in, forget you are reading, and become immersed in this beautiful world created. This book is the kind that sticks with you afterwards and has you salivating for the next read. This book has intricate timelines, but still easy to follow, dynamic characters that burrow into your head, and a love story that will touch your heart. Evelyn has definitely been added to my TBR and I can’t wait for book two.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

✨ ARC Review ✨
This is a tragic love story with parallels of Hamlet. We actually get several quotes from Hamlet, as well; which I adored. There is so much to this romance and world building, coming in over 600 pages, I was nervous and a little intimidated at first. I tend to lose interest over time, but I seemed to be more interested the more I read of this tragic love story.

Felix and Esme were never supposed to be together; as vampire and vampire hunter. However; to make things even more difficult, they are also fated soulmates… with an added curse. No matter what choice they make, none will be with a happy ending for them. My heart broke for their future the more I fell in to their love story. I needed them to have this epic love story and beat the curse that was placed upon them.

We are thrown back in time to France in the 1600’s, when they first meet and realize they are supposed to be together. I originally fell in love with reading because of a historical romance book (my nerd is showing) and to this day, that genre still holds a special place in my mind. The world-building was perfectly executed without going overboard with the details. Told from multiple POV’s, we get a glimpse inside the minds of several characters and how they grew throughout the story. Like most issues of that time, power and greed ruled the world and this storyline brought out the darker side. Noblemen making deals with the vampire coven?

I adored Felix. He was the right amount of jealous and possessive over Esme and he would burn the world down to protect her. The darkness that he carried was both beautiful and sad. I wasn’t a huge fan of Esme. I felt she was a bit immature and childish at first but she grew on me after her despicable fathers abuse. My heart broke for her in that moment (and many others as the story progressed)

This book was beautifully written; especially with the dark, tragic events that happen. Evelyn has a way with words that just keeps you wanting more. And the spice? Yes please. It was absolutely spicing. Again, this book was over 600 pages and I could have kept going.

Do I recommend? YES!

In Cursed Lifeline, a vampire and his fated mate are bound by a love that’s both forbidden and cursed. Shadows threaten to tear them apart, but their connection runs deeper than death itself. Dare to uncover a passion that defies fate and darkness. Giving us total mash-up feels of Twilight and Buffy on this one!

Felix and Esme share an instant, soul-deep connection—but a centuries-old curse means their time together is always fleeting. Life after life, Felix finds her again, desperate to break the curse and finally hold on to the love that keeps slipping through his fingers.

Although this story will unfold into three parts, I was more drawn to the first section of this. The story of Felix and Esme and their cursed love was the primary focus of the story, though with multiple POV's it definitely expanded beyond the two of them. What begins as a simple world soon reveals a shadowy landscape of fae, kingdoms, and blood-bound promises. The story’s intensity and haunting sadness kept me captivated throughout.

This type of story-telling that wraps you in so many twists and turns, leads the way for revealing and exceptional character development. You are exposed to a plethora of love from different people throughout and each story has it's own complexities. There could be exceptions for readers as this could come across and being 'a lot' to keep up with or to stick with. It is a different read but very enjoyable if you can immerse yourself into this type of world building, poetic/lyrical writing style and romance. There are multiple POV's in this story that reveal side characters that enhance this love story so well and give you glimpses into their roles and storylines.

A gripping, fast-moving tale of vampire slayers, destined lovers, witches, and dark curses. Perfect for anyone craving a supernatural romance that lingers long after the last page.

Just imagine the story of Fallen, but with more paranormal items, a greater challenge against fate and the elements, and a hint of historical nuance to embellish it all.

A curse was imposed on two rival races in the 16th century for the 'crime' of a Slayer and a Vampire experiencing forbidden love.
A century later in France, the fruit of that illicit love is drawn immediately to the source of his desire and drama. He is aware that the anathema hanging over their heads leaves no escape for either of them.

Esmeralda Martin was born into an era and family quite fomented by power and a sense of possession. This was a concept that was foreign to her, as she was not interested in such devious plots, but only in finally being able to be with the one she loved from afar.
For Felix Caldwell, seeing and tasting the essence of his beloved from afar was a mixture of pleasure and pain. This was especially the case when Esme disappeared from his life against her will, only to reappear the moment she was reincarnated.

This strange ballet of the passage of time has given the vampire away to seeking a solution as quickly as possible, and if exists, he wants to find out who is responsible for this torment.

~𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒖𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆 𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒆? 𝑶𝒓 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒆?~

I must say that I found it very similar to Lauren Kate's series, particularly because of the reincarnations and the curse. The most intriguing aspect was the subplots of both factions: some wanted to stop the madness and give the characters a happy ending; while others plotted revenge, protagonists and otherwise - were not the least bit aware of.

I highly recommend reading this story if you loved the Fallen Series, especially as it is in a darker and spicier key 🔥

Evelyn Montgomery’s Cursed Lifeline is a story that instantly grabbed my attention. I love sweeping stories with the promise of mystery and angst, and I went in with extremely high hopes. Unfortunately, I struggled from the first page.

My biggest issue with this story is very much a personal one, which will not impact everyone. In fact, knowing this, a large part of me wanted to give this a two-star rating instead of the one-star rating I gave it, but I could not bring myself to do so. What was my big issue? The forced poetic writing. It did not feel natural at all, and it made it difficult to read. It was overflowing with far too many adverbs, constantly interrupting the flow of sentences. As someone who loves purple prose, this one did not work for me. It needed chopping, a lot. I tried to overlook it, but it became impossible when wrong words were constantly being used. Sometimes it was in relation to the overuse of adverbs, but other times it was simply the wrong word entirely. With each of these I noticed, the less I enjoyed the attempt at poetic writing and the more found myself reading over it as though I was grading a student paper. The fact this is a personal thing is why I wanted to round my rating up, but the pacing also did not work for me. There was too much going on in the story, which meant I never had the level of investment in anything that would drag my attention away from being picky about the writing. It flickered between not giving enough information to giving infodumps, and it made the story very easy to put down as I was not hooked on any of the many elements.

At the end of the day, it is safe to say I was not the right reader for this story. I am sure it will work for many, but I struggled from the start.

There is something so cataclysmic about star-crossed lovers that I can't help but be drawn in. This story was captivating and enticing with pleasing characters.

It had a little bit of a slow start as the stage was being set for the story. The multiple points of view right off the bat was a little confusing as it took a bit to confirm who the main characters were. Once I got my bearings and knew somewhat what was going on I appreciated that there was so much history woven into the story. Getting the full backstory and buildup was nice.

The writing was very elegant and almost had an otherworldly feeling to it. Definitely had an old school feel, like something written and lifetime ago. I like that the writing evolved with each time change. It really helped give the story a spellbinding aura and kept me glued to the pages.

There was a complex cast of characters who were all intriguing in their own right. They each had a part to play and were very involved throughout the story. I loved the multiple points of view which helped to give the story a well rounded feel. You knew what was going on from everyone's perspective. I think the biggest surprise for me was how much I loved Talon and Viktor! I'm excited to know more about them side characters and hope they get stories as well. This was a unique and beautiful story and I would recommend it!!

Evelyn, you really did me in on this one. This was my first Vampire/Slayer romance and it did not disappoint.

The fated lovers, cursed across generations. I could not put this one down. She is supposed to hate him, but she is drawn to him. Felix wants to claim her, but protect her.

“The rules are simple. I’m jealous and possessive. If we cross this line, you're mine.”

There are so many twists and turns and a whole lot of plot development. When his brother Viktor kills Esme…I about lost my cookies! He then teams up with an unlikely source to help him end the curse that keeps him and Esme apart. She is reborn time and again through the centuries, and always has this deep soul yearning for him. It’s heartbreaking and riveting.

“You’re my lifeline, Felix. Nothing can take me away from you.”

I love the world that Evelyn has created and can’t wait for more books in this series. If you haven’t started it yet, what are you waiting for? It’s a must read!

"I'd choose you. In a million ways. For infinite lifetimes. In life and death, nothing and no one could ever stop me. I'd. Always. Choose. You."

Cursed lifeline is a story with vampires, fae and mysterious life connections. Not bad, actually a really entertaining book, with a lot of connections and parallels with Shakespeare 's Hamlet.
A tragic romance between vampire and slayer, love fated to be doomed but also to last in time.
The way the book is written (multiple points of view and many characters) can be a little too much sometimes, but it also builds the story for the other books of the series, I am most certain.
Felix is a complex fellow, the tormented vampire transformed against his will more like Louis from. "Interview with a vampire" by Anne Rice, but who finds strength in love and patience to fight fate over centuries, just to be close to Esme.
An interesting character is Viktor, Felix's brother, a vampire who chooses to be controlled against his will just to help his brother escape fate. I do believe the next book will be about him, or at least I hope.
Also, two lines to follow are the connection between Talon and Celeste, and Alfred and Evangeline. It's interesting to see where this would lead.
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book!Awesome ending!🖤

📚ARC Review Cursed Lifeline by Evelyn Montgomery📚
•Rate:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

✨My thoughts:
I haven’t really read anything quite like Cursed Lifeline before, and honestly, I quite enjoyed it. The writing style pulled me in right away—it felt like I was being thrown straight into the world, and it kept me there the whole time.

There were moments that totally shocked me (and a few that left me a little confused), but in a good way—it made me want to keep reading to see what would happen next. The storyline itself was super engaging, and I was surprised by how much I liked the way it moved through different time periods or “ages.” It added a unique layer to everything.

The world-building was solid—full of detail without being overwhelming—and the romance? Emotional, messy, and full of challenges, which made it feel real. Each character had something to bring to the story, with their own struggles and perspectives, and that made the whole book feel even richer.

Expect twists, turns, and a few emotional punches. If you’re into stories that keep you on your toes and leave you thinking about the characters even after the last page, I definitely recommend giving Cursed Lifeline a try.

If you watched Buffy and like dark, twisty, and unhinged vampires then check out Cursed Lifeline!
I inhaled this book and it completely consumed me. This book is full of plot twists! There were several times I was expecting things to go one way and then it flipped and went in a different direction. I was on the edge of my seat (bed) the whole time and stayed up way too late reading because I just couldn’t stop. I had to know what happened. I will definitely continue the series. I really loved all the Hamlet and Ophelia quotes. That’s not something I’ve seen in another book. Esme and Felix are so electric together from the very first second they meet. The side characters are really interesting and I can’t wait to see who the next book revolves around. 🖤

Fav tropes:
Slayer ⚔️

*I was given this book as an eArc but my review is based solely on my own thoughts and opinions*

There first encounter was idk how to put this, a lot of heavy breathing haha. Esme barely says a word and just breathes through most of the chapter haha. I really wish there was more. I enjoyed Felix’s character, he’s dark but not too dark and very tempting to say the least.

This book is very long so keep that in mind. I enjoyed the beginning of the book but it started to slow down towards the end. I appreciate the nods to hamlet (me being a theater major loves it). I think the plot and premise is ingenious and love how their love is spread across time. Destined for each other but they are enemies. Chefs kiss 🤌.

It is Multiple Point of views which threw me off a bit. It became a bit too muddled at times. I do agree with others reviews, the side characters are likable and have well character lol, things to distinguish them and make us want to know more. I like Alfred. It kind of bug me they used the named drusilla haha like you could have used any name, why that one? If you’re a Buffy and or Angel fan, you’ll know.
