As Lady of the Diadem, the single most powerful psychic and political entity in the city, she’s surrounded by more enemies than she’s ever been before, and that’s just the beginning. Her quest to better the lives of the psychically enslaved creates new rivals every day. When a recurring nightmare leads Solara to Naiji, a little girl stripped of the gift and left to die, her already tumultuous world implodes.
Someone is experimenting on psychics, leaving a trail of bodies behind them. And Solara has just drawn their attention. They send her an invitation – a taunt – to join in their fun. But Solara’s own gift is growing wildly out of control, broadening in scope and strength faster than she can learn to manage it, with devastating consequences. Innocent people are dying around her, she is the only one powerful enough to help, and the very ability that has been her security has become her undoing.
As Solara unravels the tangled history between her, Naiji, and the city itself, her shadowy adversary circles closer, bringing with them a choice and a truth that will change the fate of the city forever. With unfathomable power and no certainty of how to use it, Solara must find the line between dictator and liberator, defender and killer, before there’s nothing left to save.
Julie Upshur was born in southern California and raised in middle Tennessee. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. When she’s not at work or held hostage by her latest writing project, she can be found with her ex-racehorse, Daniel Joseph; chilling with one of her nine siblings or their children; or training for her next marathon.
She’s obsessed with books, running, lifting, riding horses, and a couple of other things. She loves to write stories about complicated and loving families, strong women, and variations on the wild, wonderful world we live in.
Solara is the strongest psychic in the diadem & maybe in this whole universe. Her goal is trying to free seconds from psychic slavery, even if at times it is to her own detriment. She is also learning how to control the depths of her new power.
Usually I don’t care for children written into books as main or even side characters, but the way Julie was able to write Naiji I didn’t mind it. I actually liked her hot/cold character a lot 😂
This is also not a spicy book, romance is on the back burner. Maybe even the melting burner that nobody really uses. & thats okay because this book is strong enough without it.
Looking forward to book 3 😁😁😁 Also Kindle ur an opp bc why isn’t it showing my damned highlights & notes for this book!!
