It started with a kiss. A reckless, heat-of-the-moment kiss with a complete stranger. Only, she isn’t just any stranger.
Clara Fields is my childhood friend’s little sister; the sassy, free-spirited true crime podcaster who thrives on chaos and refuses to play by anyone’s rules.
And me? I’m Aiden Harper, the strait-laced District Attorney who doesn’t know how to color outside the lines. My life was all neat lines and predictable routines. Then Clara showed up, and my carefully constructed world didn’t just wobble, it tipped over entirely.
I wasn’t supposed to want her, but every teasing comment and mischievous smile makes me forget why she’s off-limits. She’s like a hurricane wrapped in sunshine, and I’ve somehow become the guy holding the umbrella, trying not to get swept off my feet.
Then, as if my life wasn’t spinning out of control enough, I found out I have a three-year-old daughter. Poppy is a handful with a love of glitter and all things sticky. Now I’m a full-time daddy to a child I didn’t know existed until a few days ago.
Suddenly, I’m balancing parenthood, law, and chaos.
Falling for her was never the plan. Glitter in my coffee wasn’t, either. But here we are.
And after that night in the forest, there’s no way I can let her go now.
SINGLE DADDY PROTECTOR is the second book in the Everwood series. Set in the northwest it has beautiful descriptions of nature. This is Clara and Aiden’s story and a chance encounter alters the course of their lives.
Told by each of them in alternating chapters we get to know them a little at a time. As their layers are pulled back I liked their honesty and communication skills. The addition of his young daughter Poppy added another layer to the story and I loved watching her come out of her shell after her life is turned upside down.
There are steamy moments along with lots of romance and I liked seeing their attraction grow into more. Love, friends and family, their work ethics, the small town, and lots of family time kept me turning the pages. Her brother Atticus is larger than life and was friends with Aiden growing up which added a twist to the story. There is closure and a nicely portrayed happily ever after but the book ended abruptly. There’s also a lead up to the next book in the series which whet my appetite for more.

This was a sweet book. I liked it right from the start and I did expect there to be final dramatic confrontation of some sort, there wasn't and that made me happy.
I did read this one first though its not necessary to read them in order I'm going to move forward with Atticus' book and then go backwards to Lucy's book.. because all the characters are really great and I do want to read their stories too.
there was one part of the book that it switched over to third person and it confused me. but not really the biggest of deals.
This was a sweet read. I honestly thought there would be more conflict concerning Clara and Aiden's jobs. And I was pleasantly surprised at how seamlessly the transition happened, adding Poppy to the mix. Again, it's a very cute read. Definitely enjoyed it and would recommend it.
