﹙3 stars ⭐️ ﹚Well… this was definitely something.
— Let’s get straight to it—my biggest issue with this book, as harsh as it might sound, starts and ends with the male main character’s appearance 😭 I’m sorry, but I just could not wrap my head around the fact that Dorian, the FMC Daisy’s imaginary friend, has four hands. It was just plain weird to me, and this is coming from someone who had a morbid terror-turned-obsession with slenderman. oh and of course lets not forget, the cherry on top, he also has two… well, you know. 🤡
I honestly thought I could get past it but Chapter 19 really sealed the deal for me. yeah… no thanks.
〝 Is it possible to miss someone who never existed? 〞
— For the sake of making it through the book, I had to reimagine him as a normal human—two hands, two privates. or well at least, in the body of a normal human. And honestly? If it weren’t for those details, I think I would’ve absolutely loved this story. The romance was beautifully done, and the connection between Daisy and Dorian—from childhood to where they are now—was so precious.
I loved their scenes together, especially when they were kids 🥹I was giggling and kicking my feet when Dorian kept getting jealous over Ezra for spending too much time around Daisy 💌
〝 Maybe you’re right. You are kind of like a real-life prince. 〞
— What really kept me hooked, though, was the paranormal element. That was, hands down, the strongest part of the book. It had that classic horror feel—very The Conjuring, Insidious, and Brahms: The Boy-esque. The atmosphere was eerie, the mystery was gripping, and at times, it genuinely scared the freaking hell out of me. (Not gonna lie, reading this alone at 2 AM? BAD BAD IDEA. I was pissing my pants)
However, the ending felt somewhat rushed, coming across more like a teaser for the next book rather than a satisfying, full-circle conclusion to Dorian and Daisy’s story.
〝 I thought of you every day, every minute, every second. Even when I didn’t know myself, I knew you. 〞
Overall, this was an intriguing, chilling read, even if some of the details were a little… unconventional for my taste. If you can, though, you’re in for one hell of a ride. I can’t see why you wouldn’t enjoy this book if you’re into that sort of that thing!!
