Ava thought she was just cashing in on a bonus by isolating herself in a cabin. She wasn't expecting to learn she'd worked right through an apocalypse when she reemerged five months later. However, the sudden arrival of a creature straight out of legend—grey skin, yellow eyes, pointed ears, and abs for days—proves it.
Gryik is shy and sweet and unlike anyone Ava has ever met before. Unfortunately, he's also the bearer of bad most of the human population has been wiped out, and zombies are everywhere. Given a choice between living alone or accepting his offer to take her to where other human survivors live, she packs up her cats and embarks on a journey of a lifetime with the first fey she's ever met.
Join Ava, her cats, and Gyrik in this funny and captivating aftermath installment of the Resurrection Chronicles.

Every installment of the Resurrection Chronicles is a delight, but I have not loved one so much since Demon Blind came out, because both of the concepts of these shorts are so very me in the apocalypse vibes 😅. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but I legit would read a story for every single uncoupled fey remaining (I mean it, I would read another 150ish shorts or novels) should Melissa choose to write them, but I really do love Ava and Gyrik’s story because I could for sure see myself and any number of introverts in her situation. I mean, who HASN’T wanted to lock themselves in seclusion with their cats for a few months to really focus on their work/passion project? I can imagine it as being both the best and worst way to ride out a zombie apocalypse, because Ava got to avoid some of the most awful parts, but also re-emerged into a completely new world with nothing to go on as to what’s happened while she was away. It also gives fans of the series something that’s been in short supply in the series: a woman who’s genuinely excited to meet the fey, because she thought briefly that she might be alone in the world (no shade to Melissa, I get both attitudes in the context). I also really, really love seeing the progress of the new communities, both in growing families of various make-ups, and in becoming more self-sufficient. A great entry point for newbies looking to try out the series before they get into the initial trilogy with Mya and Drav, with very minimal spoilers for the main series arc. In a lot of ways, it could almost be bother a prequel and sequel, because while the ending of Ava and Gyrik’s story fleshes out the rebuilding phase a bit more, Ava’s seclusion also involves a lot of ground covered over the main series in a very natural way. Already looking forward to re-reading when I finish my series re-read and finally finish Molev’s duet! Definitely think this series will appeal to readers who are fans of TWD and Warm Bodies.
I love this book. First off, Ava was charming and Gryik was so adorable but sexy if you know what i mean. Pete and Repeat so cute. Honestly i love every single book in this series, I will say this is a softer and fluffier romantic story to me. Very light read. i appreciate the variety of each individual book story, each different from each other so i believe, everyone could find just the right book for them in this series. Now i would recommend this book to everyone who likes romance books and a little bit of thrill. I drank this book up like water. It was good. I always struggle with reviewing these books because im so excited about what i just read but i also don't want to take that joy from anyone else. So I'll say give it a try and enjoy. I definitely joined ms Haags Facebook group to excitedly share my excitement about getting another book in this series. For those that don't know, this is hands down my favorite series. For those who are not into horror or zombies, my friends you are missing out if you don't give this series a shot. Don't worry its not too gruesome, not with the yummy fae Daddies around, you will be completely protected.😉

It was so much fun to visit the Resurrection world again. The author has given us a look at how our heroine, Ava, who had isolated herself during the initial attacks (for her own reasons), got to see this new world for the first time. She and her 2 cats (Pete and Repeat - got to love her sense of humor) are rescued by Gyrik and friends as they are far from home looking for more survivors.
Gyrik is such a gentle soul but fierce protector. It is great to put him with a heroine who hasn't been damaged by all the trauma other characters have suffered. Zach, Bram and Will (Gyrik's team members) but especially Zach add so much to the story as we see how they work together to move through this dangerous world while also bringing Ava up to speed on life as it is now.
Reading the story left me with a warm and satisfied feeling. I want to sit down and binge read the entire series again.
There’s just something so comforting about coming back to this world (strange when there are zombies I know, but I feel what I feel ok!). I love the characters, the world, the love, the sexy scenes and everything in between. When MJ Haag said she was coming back to this world, I was so excited!! And I really hope we get more. For this installment, I really enjoyed the premise of someone who hadn’t been aware of the apocalypse up until this point - I think it gave the story a fresh lens that differed from previous heroine’s stories, and it added an element of discovery to the story that I liked. I also like Ava and her pragmatic approach to life - I respect someone who just gets on with things! And it wouldn’t be a fey novella with a great sexy scene - and of MJ Haag delivered (and then some)!
This is a short story set after the final book in The Resurrection Chronicles series. Ava is the most levelheaded and calm FMC we have had in this world. She’s also probably the luckiest being that she got to survive the zombie apocalypse without even knowing it was happening! Reminds me of the reality TV stars that were trapped in a house filming when covid started and had no clue it was happening. So scary and crazy that it’s really possible to miss a world change like that because you are shut away! Gyrik is the MMC and is the perfect example of the fey we have grown to love over this series who just wants to be accepted and find love. This love story is a cute one and a perfect addition to this world and I am in full support of starting a new series in this world!

This follow up is the perfect addition to an unforgettable journey. It beautifully blends the hard realities of post-apocalyptic life with the quiet joys of community, love, and growth—both literal and emotional. Watching the narrator find her place in a new world, with her cats, new friendships, and an unexpected future, is deeply satisfying. The relationships feel real, the world feels lived-in, and there’s a strong sense of hope woven through every moment. A beautifully written finale that lingers long after the last page.

This series (and all of Melissa’s books) are amazing. Usually her books will have some difficult topics and perfect examples of how real people get in and out of those difficult situations. This book was the softened version of the Resurrection world but still just as captivating.
I wouldn’t normally pick up a “zombie” book, but this series isn’t like your typical zombies. I’m so glad my love of MJ’s other books entrapped me to purchase this series too.
I’ve already reread this series at least one time through. I was very excited because I forgot I had pre-ordered this book earlier this year. It was a nice little treat to open up my Kindle app and see it in there. I would totally read more books in this series, even if there isn’t as much action adventure as the first couple books. I would totally be down to read about people farming and setting up a greenhouse and raising Repete’s kittens and what not.
This series is just so doggone good. I loved that we got to see a group of survivors and fey reaching out and searching for others. It was a change of pace to have a character without a tragic backstory, but her “shock and awe” to her world were good. As always the fey are amazing and the spice is HOT!! I’m really hoping that we get more novellas added to this series as I hate thinking it’s over.
I’m so glad this series has continued and hope it keeps on coming . MJ Haag’s world building is just awesome . Please keep these stories coming! The hero in this story is adorable as is the heroine . It was neat to see the world from the perspective of someone who didnt know what was going on in the world . And had no clue that an apocalypse had happened . As always it ended with a happy ending . Please keep these stories coming !!
Melissa I am great ful for the stories of Resurrection Chronicles. This last one was so hilarious. And I can't believe Nancy let Zach out. Ideally enjoyed reading this short stories and wish you can write many more. Thank you and your creative mind.
I was hooked on this series from the beginning. When I heard the series was continuing, I couldn't wait to dive into the next book.
Demon Shock didn't disappoint. Not only did Ava and Gyrik have hot and heavy chemistry, but they also developed a relationship. Refreshing to see less fear! I can't wait to see more of the world as it rebuilds post apocalypse and hellhounds.
YES!!!! We want and NEED more from this series! There is still so much that can happen! More please!
Now on to the review: I really enjoyed how this book differed from the others in the hostility towards the fey. Gyrik was a sweetie and I really liked how there relationship came together.
Ava’s story was awesome! The author did a great job creating a believable scenario for a person having no idea of the apocalypse! I loved every juicy page of this book, please write more in the series!
I’m going to say it again: I love this series and I wish it had more sequels like Ruby Dixon’s series has💁🏻♀️❤️ I understand that something has to end but I hope Haag will start a new world/series with similar marshmallow “alien” men.
Each story is different couple and human and a fae who meet in apocalypse world. We meet some old friends in this book. Great series best to read from first book to here.
I love this entire series!!! I love the Fey and the way you write such a unique personality for them. It’s so different than any other genre, and I read a lot! Please find a love for all these wonderful gray men with pointed ears :-)
I just love reading about the fey and human relationships. These books are just the best. Would love to see more families reunited and finding love and happiness for the fey.
