He’s a playboy rodeo cowboy, my brother’s best friend, and the man I hate. But now he’s my problem.
When my brother tells me that Nathan Booth is coming to Star Mountain Horse Rescue to do community service for throwing punches in a bar fight, I immediately see red. Nathan causes trouble and breaks hearts wherever he goes, and he’s the last man I want around my barn. He’s also got the face of an angel and the swagger that says he knows it. He thinks I’m a hissing viper with a savior complex, so at least he hates me as much as I hate him.
But ever since my grandparents passed away two years ago, the rescue has been scraping by, and I can’t turn down the deal Nathan offers I’ll teach him everything I know about training rescued horses and he’ll help me fundraise for the barn on social media. But as our lessons heat up, and I watch him work with our horses with gentleness and skill, I start to wonder if there’s more to this playboy than meets the eye…
I’m determined to keep things casual. Nathan’s time at Star Mountain has an expiration date, and I’ve lost too many people already.
But then my brother’s best friend goes from hating me, to falling for me.
4/5 Stars — A heartfelt cowboy romance with a dash of healing and heat
I’ve always been a sucker for a good cowboy romance, but Roping Wild Dreams by Lucy Harper had an added layer that made it even more special—it’s set on a horse rescue. That setting alone pulled me in, but it was the characters and emotional depth that kept me hooked.
Candice, our FMC, lives and breathes the rescue ranch that’s been in her family for generations. After so much personal loss, she’s fiercely guarded and determined to keep the rescue running no matter what. Enter Nathan, our MMC—a professional cowboy who specializes in reining. After a bar fight lands him with community service, he ends up at the rescue, and sparks (and tension) start flying.
Their chemistry is undeniable. I loved their banter, the enemies-to-lovers vibe, and the slow burn that came with Candice asking Nathan for “lessons.” They’re opposites in so many ways, but they push and pull in the best kind of way—challenging each other, healing old wounds, and eventually letting their guards down.
The emotional beats were strong, the romance was swoony, and the side characters added so much life to the story. I’m already trying to guess who’s getting the spotlight in the next book, and I’ll definitely be picking it up when it drops!
If you love a cowboy with a soft side, a heroine with grit, and a romance that balances tension and tenderness, Roping Wild Dreams is worth the ride.
“Nathan Booth is not coming here,” I say, pausing after each word for emphasis. “Period. End of story.”
4 Hours Later . . .
“Nathan. Kiss me.”
Whew... Roping Wild Dreams is one of the most scorching hot cowboy romances I have ever read but what I appreciate the most is it takes place at a rescue sanctuary for horses.
I had such a fun time with the book because the characters were fun. The romance featured is primarily dislike-to-love with a lot of bickering, insane chemistry and the one that had my toes curled the most—spicy lessons (iykyk).
Candice and Nathan were such a fun duo to read about with so much tension between them and an undeniable attraction that kept on simmering until it exploded.
There's a sentimental layer to this story and it's packed with emotions and it's lovely to see that unfurl in each character especially as they put up a different persona around each other.
If you're in the mood for a light spicy read, I promise you'll have a grand time with this!
I adore cowboy romances, and this one did not disappoint! The hate-to-lovers trope added such fun tension between the main characters. Also, the horse rescue setting was fantastic! I enjoyed getting to know the horses. Witnessing the connection between the characters and their horses is heartwarming.
After the passing of Candice's grandparents, she throws herself into running the rescue ranch. She's always so busy that she rarely goes out or even thinks about dating. For years, she’s been working tirelessly to keep the ranch going, even though funds are tight. Nathan is a charming rodeo cowboy and a playboy. After a bar fight lands him in hot water, he’s sentenced to community service at the ranch. Candice is not a fan of him and is determined to keep him at arm's length. But when Nathan offers to teach her how to raise funds for the ranch, she starts to see a different side of him.
I loved Candice’s character—she’s hardworking, strong, and incredibly resilient. Her love and dedication to the ranch and the horses shone through, and I found myself getting a bit emotional at times. She’s faced so much loss and is understandably scared to open her heart again. Then there’s Nathan, who may be charming and handsome, but underneath it all, he has insecurities. It was so rewarding to peel back the layers of his character and see he’s more than just a playboy. His patience with the rescue horses and his loyalty to his family were lovely to witness.
The chemistry between Nathan and Candice is electric, and I enjoyed their spicy lessons! I loved how they challenged each other and shared some witty banter. Watching them finally let their guards down and start to heal each other was such a beautiful journey. Overall, this was a delightful read! It’s not just about their love story but also celebrates the special bond between humans and horses.
“I’d like the chance to prove that to Candice—to show her how dedicated I can be. To convince her that I’ll make her my whole world if she lets me.” - Nathan

Rating: ⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️/5
I had to opportunity to read this book as an ARC. I wanted to love this book so badly but I just could not get into it. While in a cowboy romance horses should be mentioned, I feel that they shouldn’t be mentioned and have more focus than the actual couple in a romance book.
Nathan is doing community service at his friend’s ranch after getting into a fight. Candice doesn’t want him there but it doesn’t matter because her brother does. All Nathan & Candice do for the first 30-40% of the book is constantly argue. Then the two of them make a deal to help each other out. Soon they realize that they’ve fallen for each other but we don’t really see that happen. It’s just kinda like oh all of the sudden they like each other but we don’t really see any of the inner dialogue to that.
"Roping Wild Dreams" will be available on April 11th and while this book ended up not being my cup of tea, it may be yours!
“I love you the same way I love being with horses. You are the root of my soul—of my entire being.” - Nathan
I love that we are able to read a cowboy romance that revolves around the horses, and how to care for them. This was a slow burn, but once the story picks up, it is hard to put down. Both characters experienced grief, and learn to lean on each other during their more vulnerable moments. I loved the character and relationship development for Nathan and Candice, plus the side characters were a great addition to the story. I can't wait to read more of the Star Mountain series.

ARC Review - Huge thanks to Lucy Harper and Love Notes PR for the opportunity to receive a review copy of Roping Wild Dreams!
⭐️⭐️.75 rounded up - This just did not land for me. There’s insta lust and then there’s whatever this is. The story takes place over a single month and by the end, we have the MCs calling the other the love of their life and willing to uproot their lives for the other.
Neither character was particularly strong or memorable for me. Nathan was fine, but certainly not the steamy smoke show that he’s intended to be. Candice is extremely whiny and immature. I hate to describe a character this way when their back story is filled with trauma and a lot of their behaviour theoretically makes sense coming from that place, but I think it is a case of the author not being successful in portraying this depth (still trying to figure out why/how this works in some books and not in others).
I’m in agreement with a fellow reviewer that Candice’s best friend Winnie was a very awkward plant with no context. It did indeed feel like we were encountering their friendship as though we’d seen them in another book (but this is the first in the series).
The biggest ick of all for me was the spice. I did not feel like it suited Candice’s character at all. Candice is not a virgin (by definition) but she may as well be - and that’s enough to put me off in itself because I don’t enjoy a virgin FMC trope.
When I saw the ‘spicy lessons’ trope as part of the book’s promo, I was excited as I loved that aspect of Jessica Peterson’s Wyatt. In Roping Wild Dreams, though, it just didn’t work. The author’s approach to smut is pretty hardcore and includes degrading dirty talk (he calls her a slut on countless occasions). While I get that this is subjective in terms of personal preference, it just did not suit a character who was most definitely not a slut in any sense of the word and a whiny baby who would cry over being called any name in any other setting. Maybe that was the point? But it felt weird…
Final note on the spice front: the word count on c**t is literally insane. I feel like it’s thrown into the average romance novel a handful of times while p***y is the favoured word, but this book is the complete opposite. A search returned THIRTY THREE occurrences. I’m clearly not a prude if this is my genre of choice, but it was kind of A LOT.
Thank you to Love Notes PR & the author for the eARC!
I love when you can feel the love authors put into books, and i definitely felt her love for animals in this one! I also really liked the depth of Candice’s character, she has a tough exterior but she just wants to protect herself. On the other hand, I didn’t really care for Nathan. He was supposed to overcome the “player” allegations, but I’m not sure he really redeemed himself. I feel like he only started to respect Candice once he got to know her well, and that didn’t sit right with me.
2.75 - 3 ⭐️ Would recommend if you’re looking for a book with Rebel Blue Ranch vibes!
I liked the rescue / sanctuary setting. And it really delves into it unlike some other cowboy books that gloss over the horses. Montana setting Both a cowgirl / cowboy 🤠
Grumpy x sunshine Inexperienced x playboy Spicy lessons
Candice x Nathan Rescue owner x big time rodeo man
It had its moments of grief and sadness. And fun extra side people. I’m sure are getting their own books.
If you’re a absolute horse girly, you’re gonna LOVE THIS. I really liked the characters, but the enemies to lovers wasn’t it for me 🫣 it felt rushed and forced. But besides that, the vibes were good, the horses were cute as hell 🥹 and I’m really invested in Beau!!!! We need a Beau book now!!!

i had the chance to read the arc of the book and i really wanted to love this book, the blurb sounded so good and the characters were interesting but it just didn’t click with me. i was disappointed tbh. i know that cowboy romances obviously have elements of ranches, horses etc but i felt that this overpowered the romance story. i also found their bickering annoying more than endearing or exciting. the lead up to the change from enemies to lovers was cute but i just felt like the first half of the book wasn’t for me and therefore it was hard to get through this and finish it but i really wanted to so i did.

🤠 Cowboy Romance 🏡 Small Town ❤️🔥 Haters to Lovers 👀 Brother's Best Friend ☀️Grumpy x Sunshine 🌶️ Spicy Lessons
When playboy reiner Nathan is forced to partake in court mandated community service, what better place to put in the hours than at his best friend Beau’s rescue horse sanctuary? The only problem is Candice, Beau’s Viper of a little sister who manages the ranch, and has decided she hates him.
Soon, Candice realizes there is more than meets the eye when it comes to the cowboy, but as things heat up she is determined to keep it casual. She’s lost to many people already...
I enjoyed this book, and was super excited to receive an ARC of it! I love a cowboy romance, and Nathan was absolutely swoon worthy, and I really enjoyed how much of a spitfire Candice was, it was super fun to read about such a strong FMC. The spicy scenes were fantastic, and also felt like they pushed the narrative along instead of just being included for the sake of having a spicy scene which in my opinion is always a plus.
However, I ride horses competitively, and while I do not compete in reining myself, a close friend of mine does and therefore I am very familiar with the sport. This led to a few little “horse world” things that bothered me, that a casual non horse person wouldn’t notice. For example, if Nathan really was “one of the top reiners in the world” he would have an entire string of horses, not just one. Also, his only and best competition horse was mentioned to be older now, which means he would have aged out of the futurity classes, which means he probably wouldn’t be shown with a professional anymore. Also, neither Candice or Nathan were ropers so the title was a little irrelevant.
Regardless of me nitpicking at the horse authenticity, I really enjoyed the setting, the character development and the way the romance felt organic. The side characters also had me smiling and I am looking forward to them hopefully getting their own books. If you like small town, cowboy romance, make sure to pick this one up!
Roping Wild Dreams is a cowboy romance that follows Candice, a dedicated woman running her family’s rescue ranch. After facing significant personal loss, she’s determined to keep the ranch afloat, no matter what. Enter Nathan, a professional cowboy known for his reining skills, who ends up at the ranch to complete his community service after a bar fight. But what happens when enemies are forced to work together?
Guys, I know I'm late to the party, but this was my very first cowboy romance and it turned out to be an enjoyable ride!
One of the things I appreciated most about this story was the attention given to the horses, they’re such an essential part of ranch life. As a former horse girl myself, this book brought back a wave of childhood nostalgia.
The ranch setting was beautifully described. I could almost feel the dust, hear the soft nickers of the horses, and see the wide-open skies. It provided a cozy backdrop that pulled me right into the story.
The supporting characters were also a highlight. They were fun, added depth to the story, and I’d love to read more about them in future books. That said, I would’ve liked to see more of the friendship between Beau and Nathan. They’re supposed to be best friends, but their connection wasn’t really present.
As for the romance between Candice and Nathan: while I love a good enemies-to-lovers trope, their relationship felt a bit rushed. They spend the first part at each other’s throats, then make a deal to help one another and suddenly they’re head over heels. But of course, they don’t communicate this to each other. I think the story could have benefited from a slower, more believable build-up.
The ‘sexy lessons’ also came a bit out of nowhere. They felt out of character for Candice, and the dirty talk felt a bit awkward. And then there’s the ending, which was a little too much, too fast. Suddenly, they’re each other’s entire world, willing to drop everything for love. I get the appeal of a big, dramatic finale, but this felt a bit over the top.
That being said, I still enjoyed the story overall. The horses, the ranch setting, and the supporting cast really made it worthwhile. I’ll definitely continue the series when the next book is released!
Big thanks to Love Notes PR and Lucy Harper for sending me the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I’m definitely in my cowboy romance era, so I was SUPER EXCITED to get an ARC of this book. The tropes were right up my alley. Hate to love, brothers best friend…spicy lessons? 😍😍 1000% YES!
Candice and her older brother own a horse rescue that was left to them after the passing of her grandparents. Candice has gone through a lot of loss on her past which makes her hesitant to dive into anything real. She’s strong and resilient but still very guarded. Instead of living life and finding love she dives head first into the ranch, working hard to keep it from going under. So when an unwelcome visitor comes, she’s not too happy.
Nathan is a hot shot, playboy, professional rodeo cowboy…and he’s also the best friend of Candice’s older brother. After a crazy night at the bar where he punches some guys lights out, he’s arrested and sentenced to community service at Candice’s horse rescue ranch. Neither of them is happy about the situation and spend everyday arguing and going for each others throat.
Here’s where the book lost me. At some point, seemingly overnight, Candice’s hate for Nathan turned to lust? Love? I’m not sure because there wasn’t any real dialogue from either character to let you know when the change happened or why. It just kind of was , I hate you Monday, I’m in love with you Tuesday. It was a very confusing switch up and I would have loved to see more of how we got there.
I loved the aspect of horses in the book but honestly…this felt more like a horse book with a dash of romance. It’s not bad…but I wasn’t expecting the majority of the book to be about horses. I wanted more on the relationship and the two MC’s. But if you’re a horse girl then this book is DEFINITELY for you.
It wasn’t a bad book. It was a fun read. I learned a lot about horses…loved the whole feel of the rescue and how they eventually bonded and were able to grow and change from their past 🩷

*I was given this book as an eArc but my review is based solely on my own thoughts and opinions*
I love me a good cowboy romance. It’s slow at first, getting its bearings. Candice was hard to get around at first, I understand being strong and independent but there’s a difference between that and just being a b**ch. If there was some justification behind her hating the mmc then I would excuse her behaviour but her only qualm with him is that he’s made something of himself, he makes good money and like to sleep with women and one comment that was even that bad. She does grow and become vulnerable and likeable, it does take some time though. You see her heart. I’m glad I pushed through in the beginning because it started to truly become really good and magical.
I wish there was more of a relationship between beau and Nathan, they are supposed to be best friends but if anything, they seem more like normal friends, their wasn’t much background or storyline with their friendship. I like Nathan a lot, not just cause of his charm but because he’s complex. The addition of Candices best friend seemed out of nowhere, she was never mentioned until all of a sudden, she has a best friend. Felt like I was missing another book beforehand with more information. I would have liked her mentioned beforehand in conversation or thought for better flow of story. Beau, the brother, is just my favorite character, hes just what you want in a man. I’m hoping he gets his own standalone.
There’s some good tension that starts off at the beginning which is nice. Subtle touches and thoughts. The sexy scenes are great and spicy. Who doesn’t love a little dirty talk? However, the overuse of the word slut was too much and felt out of place, kinda felt cringe. Don’t get me wrong, say c**k, pu**y, etc but for some reason him calling her a slut felt so out of character.
Overall, I give it a 3. I’m just so thankful to have been accepted to arc read this and the author should be really proud of their work. I’m in my cowboy era. You can tell the author has a lot of respect and knowledge for horses. It was a fun read and can’t wait to see what happens next!
Nathan is a rodeo cowboy who landed in a bit of hot water when he got into a bar fight after losing his last event. Now he’s headed to his best friend Beau’s ranch to serve community service where he will be reunited with the one girl who has hated him since the day they met four year prior.
Candice is the manager at her family’s ranch for recuse horses and not pleased with their new found help at the ranch. She has hate Nathan since the day he ignored her when she just wanted to learn about his rodeo life. She knows he is an arrogant playboy so why does she find herself attracted to him after a night out in town?
The slow burn to this “teach me” relationship was the perfect pace. Nathan and Candice got off on the ring foot years ago, but once they communicated the chemistry was fire.
When Nathen’s community service hours end and Candice realizes he will go back to competing in rodeos, they must face the facts of what they truly mean to each other. Is it all enough?
I loved the chemistry between Nathan and Candice. If you want a company romance where the FMC is outspoken yet soft and the MMC is arrogant yet compassionate then this is the book for you!
I adored this one! Cowboy romances are one of my favorite genres so reading Roping Wild Dreams was a treat. I love that it focuses on a horse rescue. It gives the story individuality and as a reader I actually got to learn new information about horses I didn’t know before! I love how much character Lucy Harper but into the horses. It provides such an emotional depth that really made you feel connected to these animals.
Roping Wild Dreams revolves around Candice, our FMC and Nathan, our MMC.
After the loss of her grandparents, Candice becomes co-owner of the ranch with her brother. Candice lives and breathes the rescue so she’s the one who handles all the administrative, day to day operations. Her brother is a veterinarian so a lot of the responsibility of keeping the rescue running falls on her.
Nathan, is a professional cowboy whose event is reining. After a little bit of trouble, Nathan is forced to complete community service hours. Knowing his best friend co-owns a horse rescue, he finds himself going there to complete his community hours.
Thus, enter the tension between our two main characters. The chemistry is undeniable since the first meeting. Candice hates Nathan with everything in her, but she knows his fame as a professional Reiner could really help the rescue. Nathan is hopeful that by having Candice teach him how to help with rehab horses, it could help clean up his image. They are total opposites, but coming up with this “arrangement” opens the door for them to work together and challenge each other, in the best way.
I love the banter between the two characters. The romance had me kicking my feet and feeling giddy. I also loved the relationship that the main characters had with the side characters. I feel like it really made the story come full circle.
Overall I absolutely loved this one and cannot wait to continue the series!

Thank you so much to Lucy Harper and Love Notes PR for sending me an eARC 💖
This book is right up my alley. A horse sanctuary where they rehabilitate mistreated horses and give old or ‘done’ horses a beautiful space to live out the rest of their life? That’s my childhood dream. I loved Candice, her soft heart behind a sharp tongue, her being vegetarian for the same reason as me: not being able to rhyme the hypocrisy of eating animals whilst loving them, her soft spot for a cowboy. Nathan annoyed me in the beginning for the same reason Candace didn’t like him, but when we got to know him, he proved himself more than worthy. We love a man who’s a caretaker, for his animals, his family and his loved ones. Their ending fit them so well and I cannot wait to go back to Star Mountain Horse Rescue!
I got this book as an arc read and the review is based on honest opinions💖
If you’re looking for a cowboy romance which is haters to lovers but also brothers best friend.. then this one’s for you. Cos yeeeehawwwwe
The book did take a little to get up and running but knowing the background of each character and the emotional parts we’re important. It tugged at my heart and I found myself tearing up sometimes.
Nathan.. I thought I would dislike him at first but the way he says honey had me hooked. The protectiveness as well was 😮💨
Also wear the hat ride the cowgirl is a new saying 👀🤪
Thank you so much Love Notes PR and Lucy for allowing me to review this book.
This was so good. Superb. Knocked me off my horse 😉 I read it in two days because once I started, I couldn't put it down.
Candice and Nathan are both such rich and three-dimensional characters and I could feel for them so much.
Candice, especially, really spoke to me – she feels like she has to keep her family's legacy alive at all costs and never takes a moments for herself. Nathan is similar in a lot of ways but in the end, he's the one that convinces Candice the world won't burn down if she takes a break.
The cast of characters is so, so fun and I'm so excited to see whose story is next!
I received a free early copy in exchange for an honest review.
if you’re a horse girlie I feel like you’ll definitely like this one! I enjoyed that aspect of it and how we get to learn more about horses and how they’re cared for and whatnot, which you don’t get to see in a lot of other cowboy romances.
the enemies to lovers aspect almost felt too much for me in this one! it was a bit forced! enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes but it didn’t fully live up to my expectations!
overall it was a quick and easy read, it was enjoyable but not my favorite! I’d probably still read the next in the series though, especially if it was about Beau! I really liked his character!
4.5⭐️. I love a good enemies-to-lovers romance and this one with it also having the small town cowboy romance and brother’s friend tropes made it even better. The frenemies with benefits, spicy lessons and slow burn of this romance kept me reading and rooting for them to become a couple. I also enjoyed reading about the horses at the rescue farm and the gentle and kind way that Candice and Nate treated them and trained them. Thank you to Lucy Harper and Love Notes PR for giving me a chance to read this arc early for my honest review.
Dislike/hate to love plus a hot cowboy plus spicy lessons? What more could you ask for? I loved the banter in this book! It was a cute, spicy, fun read. I started and finished it all within an afternoon. The author portrayed emotions so well in this read and did a great job at highlighting grief. The spice was great, banter between characters was great and the character build was amazing. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
This was such an amazing book I actually cannnot!! I love an MMC who will stop at nothing to make the woman he loves happy and that is exactly how Nathan Booth is, stopping at nothing to make Candice Wilson happy. This book wasn’t too different from an other small town romance book (I would compare it to wild eyes with the romance side of things - the plot was completely different)but I loved it soo much. I loved following along with the blossoming relationship of Nathan and Candice. I loved the friendships between horses and humans and how important their welfare is and how everyone will spare no expense to make sure they are looked after. There was so much love and emotion in this story and I spent a lot of the time squealing from excitement or tearing up from how emotional it was. I felt such a strong connection with Candice and her beliefs and resonated with her grief and how she was able to work through it and be there for her loved ones. It was such an amazing book I would definitely recommend to any small town cowboy romance fans!! Also the spice is top tier 👀🌶️ I am hoping to see a story with Beau and Jenny and Winnie and Jonah 🫣
One of the cutest cowboy romances I’ve ever read!!
It starts as an enemies-to-lovers, but this romance is truly a love letter to horses. The love for them is everything. The FMC, Candace, runs a horse sanctuary and puts her whole heart into it.
The story follows Candace and Nathan, he’s a playboy reiner who’s forced to do community service after a fight. The only place he’s willing to serve is his best friend’s ranch: Star Mountain Horse Rescue. The only problem? Candace, his best friend’s little sister, and they do not get along. She’s not afraid to call him out and keep him in check.
Candace is a strong woman who’s been through a lot. After losing her parents and grandparents, she’s built walls around her heart and only lets horses get close. When she finds out Nathan is coming to the rescue, she’s not happy about it.
She’s a viper. He’s a playboy. But day by day, they start spending more time together, for the sake of the horses, they have to put their “hate” aside and work as a team.
Both of them carry deep scars, and the love for horses slowly brings them closer.
I loved every single page of this book. The way Candace constantly kept Nate in line? Chef’s kiss. Her strength, her softness, the nickname Viper, and how she helped Nate regain the confidence he’d lost, just beautiful.
The love truly shines through the pages. Candace is a fierce FMC, but at the same time, she needs Nate to be her rock.
Did I mention about spicy lessons? 🔥🔥🔥 You definitely need to read this book!!
Thank you Love Notes for the ARC! Can’t wait to read more from this series, the side characters are amazing, and Winnie intrigues me so much. I need her story now!! And of course I need to know how things will work out between Beau and Jenny.
🇮🇹:
I’ve never met a cowboy I didn’t like, and Nathan Booth is no exception!
Nathan is a rodeo circuit star with lots of champion belt buckles, endorsements and a trail of buckle bunnies to show for it. When he gets into a fight, he has to work out his community service hours so he picks his best friends horse sanctuary. He gets to spend all of his time training horses and seeing his best friend which would be perfect if it wasn’t for Candice, his best friends sister who has hated him from day 1. As they work together though the snark dies down and realisation that maybe it’s not hate that had them fighting, but attraction.
I really loved Nathan. He has all the swagger and cowboy charm, but there was so much vulnerability and apprehension about who he was or the man he is “supposed” to be. He has a lot riding on him and although he gives off a confidence this is really his journey on finding himself and what he wants in life. He provides a really safe space for Candice and brings out a fun side of her.
I didn’t love Candice to begin with (girlfriend seemed mean for the sake of it) however as you learn about her life and creep past her hard exterior, you learn why she has her walls up so high. She really grew on me and I loved her by the end. She’s extremely vulnerable and lonely deep down and Nathan pulls on a lot of her insecurities at the start. Once they start to bond, she really comes into her own and builds her confidence and becomes lighter. When she puts her mind to something she is unstoppable and her parting gift to some girls at the rodeo was priceless!!
If you love enemies to lovers, cowboy cinnamon roll MMCs and cowgirl feisty FMC’s this one is for you!!
I have been very honoured to have an ARC for every single one of Lucy’s releases so far. I have loved watching the progress of her stories. I have no legitimate right to say this but I’m so proud of her! This was by far Lucy’s best romance! I have loved all of her releases but I think with this book she’s really cemented herself as a staple on my selves forever.
We follow Candice and Nate as they both navigate their own emotional paths. Nate is doing community service on the horse rescue centre that is run by Candice and her brother. Candice and Nate haven’t gotten on since the first day they met, and that animosity makes for a spicy work environment. They both grow so much throughout the story. What I found even more powerful is that instead of changing throughout the book they both undercover who they are at their core and embrace it. It was so lovely to see them begin to trust one another, and to heal old wounds to be together. Seeing both of their love of horses felt really special and key to the plot of this book but also the plot of their romance.
The side characters were all really likeable and I’m already dying to know if we’re going to get more of the couples hinted at in this book! The world this story is set in made me want to pack up my 9-5 and run away to a cabin in the woods surrounded by trees and nature.
If you’ve been looking for something fun and cute to fill in that cowboy shaped hole on your romance shelf this is a must read!
Tropes: Brothers best friend Rivals to lovers Inexperience Vs Experienced Cowboy x Cowgirl (horse girl)
Candice and her brother own a horse rescue. Nate, her brother’s best friend needs to fulfill his community service for punching a guy and comes to the rescue for it. Candice and Nate detest each other and theron starts the enemies to lovers trope. Ok.. I absolutely loved that horses were involved in this, I’m horse crazy so getting to know the horses with them having a good amount of page time made me so happy. Candice is awesome, strong with flaws yes, but she’s caring and goes through some grief. Nate… eventually I came to love him but.. I seriously got sick of the way it was mentioned that he’s a womanizer a hundred times throughout the story. I couldn’t take him seriously for ages and it pulled from the story. But.. I can’t stand the man whore trope so it’s a me thing maybe, I’m finding this theme way too common in almost every book I’ve been reading, quite annoying. Minor spoiler… during the sexy times the word “slut” was so overused it became cringy.. and hey.. I love me some dirty talk so that’s saying something. This would have been a five star read if it wasn’t for these points, and the way Candice hates him then has a personality change overnight and wants him to have sex with her to make her feel more confident.. the switch just didn’t make sense 🤷🏻♀️ Overall… I loved some aspects and couldn’t stand others so it’s a 3 star for me.

This book is a beautifully crafted tale of love, healing, and triumph over adversity. The story is a beautiful exploration of the human heart, delving into the complexities of grief, anxiety, and the transformative power of love.
The addition of horses with distinct personalities adds a delightful touch, immersing readers in the world and making the story even more special. But it's the romance between Nathan and Candice that truly shines - their banter is witty, realistic, and utterly captivating.
As their relationship unfolds, the tension builds, and the emotional stakes are raised. I found myself completely invested in their journey, and at one particularly intense moment (around 86%!), I was on the verge of rage-quitting - but thankfully, the author skillfully guided the story towards a deeply satisfying, heartwarming HEA that left me feeling uplifted and joyful.
If you're looking for a story that will capture your heart, make you laugh, and perhaps shed a few tears, then Nathan and Candice's tale is an absolute must-read. Get ready to fall in love with these characters and Star Mountain!
I have honestly loved this book, I am slowly and steadily growing into my cowboy era. But Nathan Both is an incredible MMC. The way he stooped at nothing for Candice to have everything she wanted was perfect.
I liked how both of their insecurities were what brought them together, it was very emotional at times. Also, the way the horse rescue ranch is prominent in this book is a really nice addition.
And can we say how refreshing it is to have a brother who doesn’t need to step up to protect his sister against his best friend, trusting she can do whatever she wants with whomever she want. And especially the girl doing the grand gesture? Kudos, Lucy! I’ve loved everything in this book and I am proud to have been part of tour Arc team.
