About the author

Jean Bérenger is a French historian , director of research at the CNRS , professor at the Faculty of Historical Sciences at the University of Strasbourg and, from 1990, at the Paris - Sorbonne University.

He is a specialist in the history of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and military history, mainly during modern times, 1 but has also published works on the contemporary era. His doctorate dealt with the history of Austria and Hungary in the xviith century.
