Connor Mills’s ranch and family are thriving, but becoming the mayor of Willow Bend has brought fresh challenges to his life. As much as he’s achieved since coming to Faerie, greater mysteries remain.
A harsh winter is putting a heavy strain on forage for the kaltaur, and tensions on the range are reaching the boiling point. When a clash between competing ranches leaves two men dead, Connor has to act quickly to stop an open range war.
With a feisty cat-girl sorcerer and a beautiful elven girl caught in the middle, Connor must dig deeper into his enigmatic talents than ever before.
Because even in Faerie, a man can only be what he is.

I like this author's work. It appears this is the lasts book in the series but according to the afterword some of the side characters are going to be in future stories. Initially, it seemed like every series was its own entity. Now, I am not so sure. It seems like there is a connection between the series even if only loosely. I am not sure how I feel about that. I don't like the idea that I have to read everything from a writer in order to know what is going on. I used to read comic books, and it was the same thing. I both liked and hated crossover stories. If it was 2 comic books that I liked, then it would be no problem but what usually happens is they would pair a book I liked with one I had no interest in. So far that hasn't happened with this author, but the idea still doesn't sit right with me. Overall though I am happy with the series and will continue to read other books from this author.
Alternate universe, magic, fantasy races, connected series, harem adult situations
Connor and his family are drawn into a long-standing feud, leading to a fierce battle at their home. The last third of the novel focuses on Connor's connections to his family and his growing understanding of his control of magic.
Excellent editing. Enjoyed, and sad to see it end. I liked the ranching as a genre spin.
This serial is a great example of Michael Dalton’s storytelling capabilities. Character development that brings his characters to life, settings that help his readers visualize the locations that his characters live in, and dialogue that helps his readers understand his characters actions, thoughts and communications. This serial was a good read and we.ll worth reading.
Part of the larger ecosystem of stories that the author has created, I'm happy that this one was wrapped up in 3 books. It doesn't look like it's the last we'll see of some of these characters, but I admit to some confusion about exactly where this fits in the whole thing, particularly temporaly. Some hand-wavy stuff about the timelines moving differently suggests that it's not something I need to concern myself with. On to whatever is next.
I really enjoyed this whole series. Very nostalgic for me, who grew up watching westerns with my grandpa. Definitely can recommend it.
But man I am cranky that in the afterword it's revealed that it's somehow tied to freakin' Trailer Park Elves! That goofy series and this sweet western themed romance have completely different tones! I guess I'll keep my eye out for the crossover character mentioned.
Even if there were no tie ins to the other series this would be a fabulous series!! Outstanding characters and world building as we have all grown to expect!!! Ill miss these characters but am definitely looking forward to what comes next!!!
We just get an epilogue of what happens with Connor having multiple wives and multiple children and here we go blah blah blah it's really not fair that this story was rushed it was very rushed and wrapped up and we were just told what happened instead of shown I think this is sloppy writing and lazy I think this is sloppy and lazy writer.
Now I HAVE to read all the rest because I enjoyed this so much. The characters were engaging and the storyline held my attention to the very end and I want more!
Found this series after reading other Dalton books. This is probably my favorite of all his books. I love how it ties in with several other stories making the world built that much more believable.
This is a great set of books, a great story even without the rampant adult harem behaviour. I found myself, skipping those bits and just enjoying the story, the writing.
Very nice series, with many twists and turns. The final showdown and aftermath was both satisfying and tragic. I enjoyed the series, and I am reading several of the other books. All in all a worthwhile read.
This is a good Western novel with a fantasy twist that will keep you up at all hours reading. There are some places that grab you so hard that you become a character in the story and can't sleep until it's over. I hope to read more from this author.
Sad to see the story come to a close. None of the episodes seem to drag out. All of the action moves very fast and does not last that long. Story line is enjoyable. Quick reads. Characters are likeable enough.
Western story meets alternate universe. Good is good and evil is very bad. Continuing conflict for the ranch and other ranchers. Recommend without reservation
This has been an entertaining and interesting series that I thoroughly enjoyed, read it far to fast but will read again. Nice to have a new slant on magic and tech. The characters are well written and interesting the pace is fast and the ending succinct without being drawn out.
