Mallory had everything mapped a carefree summer in Europe, living life on her terms before her first ever nursing job began—no strings, no distractions. She was ready to conquer the world, one passport stamp at a time.
When a threatening encounter with a dark stranger sends her careening off course, she finds herself lost in an unfamiliar place. Amidst all of the uncertainty, she bumps into Emil.
Steady, kind, and patient, Emil is definitely not part of Mallory's plans...but maybe he's exactly what she doesn't know she needs. Offering everything and asking nothing in return, he's a detour she never expected, but one she might not be able to walk away from.
As Mallory struggles with her past, she now also has to grapple with her future, wondering if this twist of fate is—in fact—exactly what she never knew she wanted?
She has to make a
Stick to the life she’s always intended?
Or risk it all for a love that feels risky, uncertain…but possibly meant to be?

Ok, so back in December I got the chance to do my very first beta read for a new indie author, Lenora Cade, and her debut book, Two Worlds Apart. And yall. It’s so good!
Now, for my thoughts. So as someone with the memory of a goldfish when it comes to book synopses, by the time I got the manuscript I genuinely could not remember what this was about so got the chance to go in completely blind and boy what a journey. We follow Mallory, a small town girl who just landed her dream job as a travel nurse set to start in a few months. So armed with her passport and Bertha the Backpack she sets off on an extended loosely planned trip around Europe. When something happens, Mallory finds herself on an unplanned train to Mostar, Bosnia, where she meets Emil. Strong, sweet and stoic Emil. Exactly what Mallory needs Emil. So naturally, what started as a solo European exploration becomes a joint journey of love and friendship.
I absolutely adored Mallory and Emil. This was a slow cautious burn done right. Lenora did such a good job at showing a subtle chemistry that grows with Mallory and Emil and their relationship. And that cautious exploration partnered with going into the read blind, *reeeally* built up a ‘will they or wont they’ vibe for me that just worked so well.
This is definitely one of my favorite books from 2024 and I’m so glad I can finally talk about it (& log my read)!
I'm so happy and grateful to receive the ARC of this book. but unfortunately as much as i LOVE a good strangers to lovers story, this just was not it. the book started out nice. then for the next five chapters, it was jusr her travelling. okay i get it she loves it, i love travelling too but if i wanted to actually know about backpacking europe id have rather picked up a travel blog on the internet. im all for slowburn and everything, but the pacing in this book just took me out. no developments at all. and as much as i tried to actually complete it, i just couldn't bring myself to power through. im so sorry, lenora.
im not saying you should not read it, it's not my scene but maybe it can be yours.
Mallory is on a solo trip around Europe, an adventure she so carefully planned to explore and try new things before she begins her nursing job. Things don't go according to plan for Mallory and a traumatic experience throws her plans to the curb. Turns out this is the best detour she could take as it will change the rest of her life.
This is a super sweet story with great descriptions of places in Europe. Perfect read for spring break or summer time.
What a delightful, joyful read! I received an eARC of this book, and I am so glad I did! Two Words Apart is Lenora Cade’s debut contemporary romance novel, and it’s a lovely one at that.
Mallory Roth is about to start her dream job as a travelling nurse, allowing her to escape from stuffy, small-town life. But before she can begin this new chapter of her life, Mallory has planned the ultimate summer travelling in Europe. A carefree, spontaneous trip is just what she needs.
When a traumatising experience leaves her shaken and unsure, Mallory flees to Mostar, a city still healing from being torn apart by war. There she meets Emil, a kind, steady local who helps her find shelter.
As they become companions, and maybe more, Mallory and Emil realise they have coinciding dreams to see the world. They embark on a road trip across Europe, sharing wondrous experiences and falling in love along the way.
I adored seeing their relationship develop– mostly because it felt so REAL. Emil is respectful, but emotionally complex. I love that we as readers get to decipher his actions alongside Mallory. He offers her the space to feel comfortable and free, which is exactly what Mallory has been looking for all along.
I would 100% recommend giving this a read and watching out for the next book in her Concrete Heart Series.
I am so very thankful to have been given the opportunity to receive an ARC of Two Worlds Apart. This was a beautifully written love story that appealed to my sense of wanderlust! Mallory’s adventurous spirit, and the description of all the beautiful places she & Emil visited, truly captured my heart. Emil was perfection, and the ‘opposites attract’ vibes from the couple was just so fun to read. Mallory helped bring him out of his shell, and he helped settle her anxious tendencies. I’m a sucker for the ‘one room’ or ‘one bed’ trope, and this book had a ton of it! As someone who has always wanted to travel the world, this story hit home and made me long for a life that could have been. I enjoyed every moment of reading it, and if I didn’t have to do things like sleep and work, I would have devoured it in one sitting! Kudos to Lenora Cade for a gorgeous story! I cannot wait to read what’s next!
I received an ARC of this book. I basically read it in one sitting. I absolutely loved this story, I love Mallory and Emil. I loved the adventures they went on and how their relationship developed! Such a cute book! I 10/10 suggest that you read it!!
As a hopeless romantic, I often daydream about traveling to new places and experiencing an epic romance.
This story provided exactly that; I read it in one sitting. It captured the sense of freedom and adventure, as well as the terror that comes with it. The sheer excitement and fear of falling in love, along with the satisfaction of fighting for that love, was simply amazing. I wasn't ready for Emil and Mallory’s story to come to an end.
✨ Strangers to Lovers ✨ Travel Romance ✨ Slow Burn ✨ One Bedroom
Spice: Closed door romance. No spice.
This is a book after my heart. I always dream about travelling Europe and this was a glimpse into how that will be. I lived vicariously through Mallory, soaking in the descriptions of each location. I loved the plot, the travel, and the overall warm, nostalgic Hollywood film vibe that the book evoked. It was a delightful escape.
However, despite the enjoyable premise, the chemistry between Mallory and Emil felt lacking. There was a pleasant warmth, but it didn't ignite into the epic, undeniable love story that would truly justify their decision to bridge "two worlds apart." I wanted to feel that burning connection, that sense of destiny, but it just wasn't quite there.
I found the writing to be generally good, and the descriptions were vivid, but unfortunately, no particular dialogue stood out or left a lasting impression. While I enjoyed the travelogue aspect and the overall feel-good nature of the story, the romance fell a little flat, preventing it from reaching its full potential.
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY! I DON'T HATE SPICY BOOKS, BUT IT WAS REFRESHING TO HAVE SOME FADE TO BLACK LOVE SCENES WITHOUT ALL THE LANGUAGE AND DESCRIPTIONS. LENORA ALSO INCORPORATED LOTS OF EUROPEAN HISTORY THROUGHOUT, WHICH MADE MY WANDERLUST HEART HAPPY.
i LOVED this book in all ways possible. two worlds apart was an immersive love story. lenora's descriptions of all the places they travelled made me feel as if i was there right along with them. it is a slow burn but it is definitely worth the read. it kept me interested the whole way through. thank you to lenora for not only being a great author but a great person overall. mallory roth, knows exactly what she wants in life and has a grand scheme of a plan worked out for herself and her life. she took all the steps necessary to get to where she wanted to be and it all worked out for her BUT she wanted to travel the world before she started her "big girl" life. emil, the bosnian native, the small town boy with unfulfilled big dreams. the sweetest and most caring stranger. he was going about his normal life when this american girl stumbled into his life and changed his whole world. two worlds apart was a slow burn but it had enough detail in the middle to ensure that the whole story came together and wasn't boring at all. this book made me cry, laugh, and kept me giddy the whole way through. i really did not expect the ending but it came together really well. i would have loved to know what all happened in the 5 months in between and what led them to the point they ended up in but it was overall written very well. i also really liked that it showed that nothing really ever goes as planned and you really just have to roll with the punches and take life for what it is. i liked that there was spicy scenes without all the spice described, im all for smut but it is nice to have a book with spicy scenes and none of the spicy details. congrats to lenora on her first published book. i am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series and hopefully theres cameos!!
I read “Two Worlds Apart” as an eARC by author Lenora Cade and it might be one of the most beautiful rom-coms I have read. It doesn’t seem like much at the first few pages but then it draws you in quite nicely! It’s not a mindless rom-com (and I’m absolutely not hating on mindless rom-coms - there’s nothing like getting into a cozy space and reading a simple romance) and delves into some really real concepts like wanting freedom to live your life as you want, how beautiful your everyday things can be if viewed from a fresh perspective, amongst other things. The writing is easy, without needless jargon, but it sometimes evokes very beautiful images! The characters are so real! They aren’t extremely idealistic and I love that. For me, the female lead character - Mallory Roth - was extremely relatable in multiple ways, especially the freedom bit and how a lot of women tend to blame themselves when faced with molestation. She is so vulnerable, raw, and honest in the book, I can’t help but like her. And the male lead character - Emil - is such a secure man! He automatically senses and respects all her boundaries without feeling bad or taking it on his ego. It’s a travel romance so, of course, there were descriptions of beautiful, gorgeous places and some of the cities that are included are London, Paris, Marseille, Munich, Prague, Mostar, etc. Apart from this, the book also deals with some serious topics like dealing with trauma, dealing with loss and grief, living in a city that is healing itself after being torn by war, etc. I really hope this book gets the love and recognition that it deserves after it releases, and I hope other people like it as much as I did!
I am so grateful for having the chance of being able to inmerse myself in this experience!
Summary: Mallory has worked hard all her life for an opportunity to travel and enjoy the world. As a nursing school student, she has worked hard and finally decides to go on the trip of a lifetime. But life isn't always what you plan, and along the way, she meets Emil, our brooding but sweet hero, who she ends up rescuing right back. She now has to face this trip and the possibility of falling heads over heels in love while navigating anxiety and the obstacles along the way.
This book is easily one of the biggest recommendation I can give to people that enjoy traveling, if I had ever felt wanderlust hit me square in the chest with a book, I'd have to say this is it. Lenora's way of describing every city, town, airport, and situation for solo travels transported me back to my younger university days, and I swear I felt every emotion and smell with her description.
The travel is front and center made better by the love story of Mallory and Emil. Keep in mind that this is a very slow burn with no spice, which suits the whole story perfectly. You get to see their struggle to move from strangers to friends to lovers and the low-key tension that keeps building up and makes this a very sweet and healthy romance, from Mallory's hesitation to Emil's respectful behavior the way it develops is wholesome and in sync with the rest of the plot.
I would say to anyone to give it a try, you won't regret it, especially if you enjoy:
✨️Travel Romance ✨️One Bed ✨️Strangers to lovers ✨️Slow Burn ✨️Forced Proximity
- forced proximity - slow burn - travel romance - strangers to lovers - on bed
Mallory our FMC has just graduated Nursing school and has decided to take a few months off to travel and see the world. With her whole trip planned out and the idea of a perfect first adventure on her own nothing could go wrong. Or so she thought. One horrific experience left her scrambling and her plans in shambles. Hoping on the first plane out to a destination unplanned set things in motion for her future that she couldn't even have dreamed of.
Emil a native to Bosnia, decided to help a lost American girl out at the supermarket one night but found himself wanting to get closer to her. Acting almost as her guide through his city he keeps Mallory close but with respectful boundaries. Until she asks him to drop everything and come on her trip with her.
Boundaries are broken and a friendship is tested as they both struggle to figure out their feelings towards each other. This was a cute slow burn strangers to friends to lovers story with closed door romance. The trips the two take were perfectly described and left me feeling like I was traveling along with them.
Thanks to Lenora Cade for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. This review is all my honest thoughts and opinions.
I received an ARC of this book from the author which was terrific. I feel as though I may not have been the right audience for this book though.
I really enjoyed the descriptions of the traveling. The author clearly has a love for being in different places in the world - it shows in the loving descriptions and attention to detail. One of the things that stood out for me was the MCs realization that she was somewhere "Other" than where she was from. Boy, do I remember thet feeling from when I went to Cambodia. I also enjoyed the MCs visit to the Eiffel Tower - I've been there myself and I remember it well.
As for Mallory and Emil, I didn't get any chemistry from them and I found it very difficult to connect with them. I was frustrated with the decisions that Mallory kept making and putting herself in danger and then it seemed that she needed a man to "save her". It could be that I was expecting her to behave older than she was.
There is no spice in this novel which I know will appeal to some folks!
I'm thankful for the opportunity to read this book - and I'm sure it will find it's audience!
Two Worlds Apart is a beautifully immersive read that takes you on a journey through stunning locations. Lenora Cade does a fantastic job of capturing the essence of these places, and I truly felt like I was walking the streets, soaking in the sights and flavors alongside the characters.
While I didn’t fully connect with Mallory and Emil, I did appreciate their story and dynamic. Mallory is a small-town girl eager to see the world before life passes her by, and Emil is a reserved guy who has spent his life in one place but has always dreamed of exploring the world. When they meet on one of Mallory's trips, they decide to continue their travels together. It's a story of love, overcoming past hurts, and allowing yourself to embrace new possibilities.
I really enjoyed the broader aspect of their journey, especially the way travel is woven into their story. If you love stories filled with adventure, self-discovery, and stunning destinations, then this is definitely for you.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Two Worlds Apart by Lenora Cade... all I can say is wow, what an adventure! This book and Lenora Cade surprised me beyond my expectations. I could not turn the pages fast enough as I desperately needed to know where Mallory’s journey would take her next.
Mallory is a small-town girl, fresh out of nursing school. She has landed her dream job as a travel nurse, but with a couple of months to spare she embarks on an adventure of a lifetime, just her and her trusty backpack, Bertha, and a well-planned out trip around Europe. As an unexpected traumatic experience derails her plans, she changes her course and heads to Mostar, Bosnia where she meets Emil. Emil is not part of her plan. Sometimes it is the things we do not plan for, the things we do not know we need, that we need the most, and maybe, just maybe Emil is exactly what she needs.
Two Worlds Apart is a slow burn, strangers to lovers, finding love after trauma romance. With her masterful storytelling, Lenora will take you on a journey to beautiful places like Paris, Prague, Mostar, London, Marseille, Munich, and more. She will bring Mallory and Emil to life, drawing the reader into their world. Take this journey with Mallory as she discovers who she is, what she wants, meets Emil, and falls in love. You will not be disappointed. I smiled, I laughed, I cried.
Thank you, Lenora Cade, for the opportunity to receive an eARC copy of Two Worlds Apart and to be a part of Mallory and Emil’s journey.
I received an ARC of Two Words Apart by Lenora Cade. It’s her debut contemporary romance novel, and I enjoyed the journey. Ms. Cade’s descriptions gave me a sense of actually being in the locales. A very good first novel.
………….
After graduation, Mallory Roth is about to start her dream job as a traveling nurse, but she makes the decision to first spend the summer traveling throughout Europe.
After a traumatic experience (that is subtly implied), Mallory flees to Mostar, a city that was torn apart by war. There she meets Emil, a kind, quiet local man who helps her regain her trust.
Mallory and Emil discuss their conflicting dreams, but decide to see the parts of Europe that they’ve always wanted to visit. The trip gives them both the opportunity to give in to their wanderlust and other feelings.
While on the trip, a family emergency causes Emil to return home, leaving Mallory heartbroken and confused.
With the sage help of an elderly fellow traveler Mallory met on the first leg of her sojourn, Mallory discovers her strength and purpose to follow her dreams.
What if your next stamp in your passport led you straight to your soulmate?
This book is for the wanderlust travelers!! Two Worlds Apart takes you on a worldwind adventure through Europe!! The vivid descriptions and locations made me feel like I was traveling to all these exciting places in Europe. Mallory just graduated and has a job to be a travel nurse starting soon. Before that adventure starts she planned a trip through Europe. She is ready to escape her small town life and get some stamps in her passport. The trip however gets derailed a bit and she meets Emil. I won’t give too much more as I want you to experience this friendship between these two unfold as the story happens.
Can we also talk about how much I love this cover!! All the little details that tie to special moments in this book!
What a fabulous and well done book! From beginning to end, I adored the storyline, characters, and the amazing job Lenora did of depicting Mallory’s adventures. She brilliantly set the scenes and captured the essence of both small town American life and European travel. It was like I was right there alongside Mallory and Emil, seeing the world through their eyes and experiencing their emotions. Their relationship felt authentic and real, full of so many complex emotions as their story unfolded. I also loved the little details that Lenora added throughout, such as naming Mallory’s backpack ❤️ I feel so honoured to have been able to read an ARC so that I didn’t have to wait to experience this story. I highly recommend you add it to your must-read pile!
This closed door traveling romance was so immersive and beautifully written. I adored Emil and Mallory and their adventures and discovery of both themselves personally and together. Mallory is a recently college graduate who has landed her dream job as a traveling nurse in the US but decided to take a backpacking trip overseas where she meets Emil. He cherishes his family and is content in his safe ways. Can they follow their dreams in life and make room for love too This is not your mindless rom-com. It is like a beautiful piece of lace. It is so beautifully woven together, delicate, but so strong. Strangers to Lovers European Adventures Slow Burn Will they be together or not? Highly recommend this for anyone who loves minimal spice and travel romance.
Two Worlds Apart is a beautifully written story of love 💖, filled with vivid descriptions that transport you across Europe 🌍. The immersive settings made me feel like I was truly there, with some places reminding me of my own travels ✈️ and others adding to my bucket list 🌟. The slow-burn romance was deeply emotional, with two characters holding back, afraid to say what they truly feel 😔💭. Their journey kept me turning the pages 📖, and I loved the way it all came together in the end 💫. A captivating, heartfelt read 🥰.
Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with a free ARC of this book to read.
Two World’s Apart is a beautifully written book by Lenora Cade. This was my first experience with this author and I am now a huge fan! I truly felt like I was traveling with Mallory. The descriptions of her travels were so detailed and really pulled me into the story. I related to the main character, Mallory, so easily. Lenora Cade wrote about her with a familiarity that I believe any reader could relate to. My heart soared with her and hurt for her throughout the story. I am looking forward to reading Book 2!
I highly recommend this story for anyone ready for an adventure and a new book friend!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a very well written travel themed romance. I loved all the descriptions of the different places the main character went as I’ve been to some of those places and it took me back with how well these scenes were written! I think the romance takes a bit of time to develop and at points in the beginning, there is a bit too much description of scenery with not a lot of plot. However, once the romance gets going it does make you want to keep reading until the end. I was lucky to be an ARC reader and I’m glad I got to read this book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. It's such a sweet, albeit emotionally charged story. A coming of age where Mallory learns to embrace life with all it's ups and downs while on her Europe trip. The author did a stunning job describing the scenes, if I didn't already want my own Europe trip, this book would convince me. And the slow build romance between Mallory and Emil was so subtle, but obvious, if that makes sense. Do yourself a favor, grab the tissues and dive into this book.
Thank you so much to Lenora Cade for this ARC! • My rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ (4.5 stars rounded up to 5) • This book reminded me of the kinds of 2000s romcoms I like to watch. It was fun and sweet. I love all the traveling. I love the characters. Watching Mallory and Emil go from strangers to lovers while traveling across Europe was wonderful. Mallory is a terrific goofball and Emil is just the sweetest. Mallory's connection with Gail was a highlight. The vibes of this book are *chef's kiss*. • Trigger warning: attempted sa
It’s been SO long since I’ve read a travel romance, and wow… this was worth the wait! 😭💛 A clean, cute, and absolutely perfect romance with just the right amount of tension between them. Fate plays a huge role in their story, and honestly, I believe in it more than ever now. 🥹✨
Every place they visit? Memorable. Every moment they share? Heartwarming. Whether it’s funny, awkward, or deeply emotional, I loved how the story captures life in all its messy, beautiful unpredictability. It’s a mix of everything… just like real life… and that’s what makes it so special. 💫
Two World’s Apart is a fun, well written book for any wanderlust traveler who loves some mysterious opportunities for romantic encounters mixed in. Lenora Cade’s ability to go into intricate detail and describe the locations her characters visit as well as the the main character (Mallory’s) internal dialogue was incredibly powerful and made me feel like I was right there travel traveling alongside her characters side! I’m already looking forward to the next story in the series! Very impressive for Lenora’s first book!!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this story on your ARC team! This sweet travel romance was a fun, fast-paced read that I really enjoyed. It had the excitement of traveling and the stress of being alone, along with a tense moment involving a TW attempted SA. I loved how real the characters felt—Mallory was goofy and genuinely enjoying her time, while Emil started off closed off but gradually opened up. The slow-burn romance made their connection even more rewarding.
I received an ARC copy, however life got in the way so I ended up reading the KU edition.
I really enjoyed this, how they were able to overcome the obstacles put in their way and the character development.
Some of the writing was a bit too flowery for me and not something I would think a 25 year old would say, but maybe I'm just not deep enough a person 😂
Would recommend this for those looking for a travel romance with a HEA.
This is a fabulous strangers to lovers slow burn book! The focus on the journey of their relationship. I love all the special moments between them and how the story has so many bumps along the way.
The small town girl sees the world vibe is so relatable and the journey through parts of Europe is fascinating. The side characters throughout are interesting and really add to the storyline.
