Rate this book
He’s a grumpy chef with a struggling restaurant. She’s the sunshine gardener who might be his only hope. Can they find the recipe for love? Or will their differences spoil everything?

Daniel Hartman’s dream of running a successful farm-to-table restaurant in Juniper Falls is crumbling. With customers flocking to the local diner, his once-bold vision is on the brink of failure. The last thing he needs is unsolicited advice from Rose Delaney, the overly cheerful gardener who insists fresh herbs and cooking classes at the community center are the solution to his problems. Her optimism drives him crazy—and yet, he can’t seem to get her out of his head.

Rose Delaney escaped a high-stress life in the city to embrace the slower pace of her hometown, pouring her heart into the community center’s kitchen garden. She’s determined to help Daniel, even if his grouchy demeanor tests her patience. Beneath his gruff exterior, she sees a man with a passion for food and a heart he’s too afraid to show.

As their partnership blossoms, so does an undeniable attraction they’re both determined to ignore. But when Daniel is offered an opportunity that could save his career—but take him far from Juniper Falls—Rose must confront her fear of losing herself again. And Daniel must decide if success is worth sacrificing the chance to grow roots with Rose.

Can a grumpy chef and a sunshine gardener cultivate the love they both secretly crave, or will their differences pull them apart?

Garden Gate Wishes is the seventh book in the Alphabet Sweetheart series, where each romance is set in Juniper Falls and has a title starting with the next letter in the alphabet (so definitely one to watch for anyone participating in an alphabet reading challenge!). I had not personally read the other books in the series and found I was able to enjoy this one as a standalone with no issues.

This was such a cute read... and one that anyone with interest in gardening and/or cooking will likely enjoy! As the story begins, Daniel is quite the grump and likes things in his kitchen to be very precise. Rose is the sunshine to his grump and doesn't mind a little chaos in her garden. Talk about opposites attracting! I really enjoyed seeing how these two balanced each other out and especially how she helped him rediscover what he loved about cooking in the first place. They had a really sweet chemistry between them that I couldn't help but enjoy. This is a very short read--- at under a hundred pages, it could easily be read in one sitting. While I definitely could have enjoyed a little more time with these two, it was really just the perfect bite-sized romance for anyone looking for a quick read with a satisfying HEA!

Garden Gate Wishes is a closed-door romance with kisses only.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

Garden Gate Wishes is a bite sized (short), cute, clean, heartwarming, opposites attract romance perfect for consuming when you need a reading break but do not have a lot of time! Rose, a ray of sunshine in the community garden, tests the patience of Daniel, a grumpy, OCD chef, when she insists that her herbs and him teaching a cooking class will help improve his restaurant business. It is a love of fun watching Rose bring a little chaos into Daniel's ordered world. Along the way, he rediscovers his joy in cooking. Of course, his business improves and they fall in love. What is fun, is seeing how Ms. Ash accomplished all this!

Super cute story! But, I felt like their were a few gaps in the story at times where I was confused on what was happening. Specifically in the first chapter where it seems like Daniel and Rose have had conversations before, when in reality they just met.

I liked that their relationship happens earlier so we get so see more cute moments with them, but the jump to the relationship felt fast, especially with the gaps that I mentioned.

Overall cute and easy read! Excited for the next one with the choir teacher!

I enjoyed this quick read and the character development. I appreciate a female character (Rose) who finds joy in so much of life and isn't a pushover. She knows her own value and sets a standard for how she will be treated. Daniel, grumpy chef, is fighting lots of internal battles, but is drawn to the joy of Rose. There is great community development and connections in such a quick read. Dig in and see what blooms/grows!

Clean Standalone Romance Interconnected Series HEA

Some of the characters overlap between books, however it can be read as a standalone.
He's opened a new restaurant in town that isn't as popular as he thought it would be. She's involved in the community center and garden. How does his rigid approach to rules go against her laidback approach? Will he be willing to compromise and adjust? What happens when an offer comes in for his restaurant?

Rose and Daniel

Rose is in charge of the community garden. Daniel is the chef at a local restaurant. She convinces him to start cooking classes for the community. He doesn't want to, but will do it to get the fresh herbs from the garden. As they work together they get closer and start their relationship.
I didn't like Daniel much at first, but by the end he had won me over.

Combine fine French cuisine with home-grown herbs and spices. What do you get? French cuisine topped with fresh herbs and flowers. Not something the grumpy chef really wants. He's all precise and business, and she's not! She's learning his ways and much to his dismay, he is learning her ways.
Will they ever meet in the middle?

Great quick read!

Gardens and Cooking and Romance

These are all topics I enjoy and are found in this book. Daniel is the broody chef, and Rose is the sunshiny gardener. Their bantering is delicious, and their developing relationship has its ups and downs with plenty of sweet moments. It's an enjoyable quick read.

Rose and Daniel meet when he storms into the community garden demanding herbs. Rose tries to make Daniel less uptight by having him lead a cooking class in the community center. Liked how Rose brought chaos into Daniel’s world. Great storyline with very likable main characters. It’s a relatively short, clean romance by Susanne Ash. I love her books.

I had a free copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Daniel Hartman runs a restaurant in Juniper Falls, but doesn’t quite understand the community until he interacts with Rose Delaney and teaches classes at the community center including the herbs Rose grows for the community. Uplifting story about working together, finding one’s way in life, and love.

Adorably sweet!

I enjoyed this romance between chaos and order. As Daniel and Rose met and grudgingly worked together on a community kitchen project. Daniel's grumpy attitude was adorable and Rose's sweet sewing of chaos was very cute.

Rose and Daniel

This is a fun, quick story of love, possibilities, growth, and changes. I liked the characters, how they communicated and how they changed as they learned more and as circumstances changed. I recommend this book.

First Book Finished in 2026!!! 💕 (3 Stars.) This was the seventh book in the alphabet sweetheart series by Susanne Ash. It was cute, sweet, and short like the others. 💕😊
But, it didn’t have the oomph like the others. It’s my least favorite so far. It was still good though. 🥧👩🏻‍🌾🪴💕

Thank you to the author for my gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

Books that are set in the kitchen are some of my favorites reads and grumpy chefs are some of my favorite characters. This book is set both in a restaurant kitchen and a community garden. Our characters are complete opposites and it was great to read that one the page. I love the community cooking class scenes. So many parts of this short book made me smile. This book has a great plot, fantastic characters, and a wonderful HEA. I highly recommend this book!
